Hi guys,
Just bought this wonderfull device but i'm having some question about it. it seems that the right side of the display is less brighter then the left side. I tried a few images but it looks like the lights are just not brighter. I adjust the contrast and on the highest setting the screen seems to be ok .
I have included some pictures, in the last picture it's very noticable. As you can see the left Agenda and the right Contacten, Agenda is really bright Contacten not. What is your idea about it? Do you guys have the same?
See the difference?
The device is brand new 1 day old, can i return it or ask for a new? Thnx for your support...
Many thanks for your feedback!
Nick
Is your backlight on full? If not try it and see if you still have this 'issue'
Try to Change the backround.
looks like a pattern of the backround.

If you just got it today does that mean you applied the screen protector today? Sometimes it takes a bit of use to sit flat on the screen and so could give such an effect.

No didn't applied it yet. Thought I wait so I'm able to return it. I will try a few new patterns. But you don't have this problem?

Whenn having it full it seems to be less. When having it on less you really see the difference.

No, just checked mine. I can't say it's obvious from your pics and unfortunately your last pic seems unavailable. If it is darker over the "Contacten" word then I can't see that this is a wallpaper issue, since that is a toolbar.

Hi
I thought this for a small while.
Try turning your screen to landscape, has the slight difference down one side changed with rotation?
If so it is probably just the shading applied to some screens by Microsoft, for example the contacts list and email lists have a colour graduation, white on the left and then a slight blue tint towards the right.
Open up pocket Word, this is a completely white screen, no graduation, do you see the problem now?

Phil
My stock Touchpad has a weird color problem. Anytime there is some shading/gradient type effect, red/green/blue hues appear. Solid colors seem fine but when I try to watch something like a movie...every person looks like Obama's HOPE poster. Even the normal grey backgrounds of the UI/Cards look like they are running in some 8bit mode or something.
HP live chat previously ASSURED me it is not a hardware problem but rather a software problem. I have done all the updates/factory reset/etc. Nothing has improved. Has anyone seen this type of problem? Is there a 8bit color switch somewhere? Thanks for reading/any help!
I attached a tiny low res pic of the problem. The problem is pretty obvious
Does it work correctly in WebOS? That would tell us if it is a cm problem or a hardware problem. Boot over to WebOS and try watching a movie. I haven't heard of this being a cm problem.

It doesn't even have CM on it. I'm actually wondering if I flash android on it...it'll get fixed. Will give it a try when I have more time but might just try to call warranty on it. My warranty has passed 1 year but hopefully my credit card company should cover it. I'm thinking I should try that first before wasting time on flashing.
Such a weird problem that has stopped me from using/enjoying my TP
Its hard to even tell what the problem is in your picture. But is your screen discolored in that one spot or is the whole screen discolored? I've never heard of a software issue causing that. And if it was a software issue, running the webOS doctor should have fixed it. So if its still under warranty, i'd go that route first.

The issue is the entire screen. The picture is supposed to be mainly dark grey/grey/white. The blue/green tints pretty much appear wherever there is slight color gradients. Its quite obvious on non-solid colored UI and skin. It looks like basically watching a person while on acid.
Anyone know if its possible to have a faulty GPU or something on it and still boot up? The TP does feel sluggish in other aspects as well...open up just a few cards and it becomes pretty damn sluggish. Doesn't even have to be a web browser card...something simple like calculator can sometimes cause problems...

If its your whole screen, it could be that your screen is messed up. If you have the warranty still, I'd see if you can get it replaced.
hi i am in the uk.. on three network. i got my htc one on the 3rd of april, and 4 days later the screen started to flicker? not all the time? but browsing? esp facebook or anything page with white? i guess the white shows up the flicker more? like i say NOT all the time but soo annoying!! not what i expected from a high end phone? Now let me just say i love this phone.. but thought i cant have this.. so i fill out support form for htc and they reply quick advising me it should not do this and to get it changed. i contact three go through the whole call centre thing (like pulling teeth) anyways the upshot was.. three sent me another brand new phone the next day (yesterday) and took back my first one. And guess what? as soon as i switch the phone on, same screen flicker? i treated the first phone like a new born baby didnt drop or bash it 4 days=screen flicker. another new phone as soon as i use it = screen flicker!! i so love this phone but im so gutted!! any suggestions from ANYONE would help.
kind regards

This isn't helpful but you must just be unlucky to have had it happen twice because mine's been perfect and I've not seen anyone else on this forum mention that problem with theirs.
I guess you'll have to get a new one sent out again and hope for the best
Could you make a short video clip to illustrate your problem ?

hi.. to be honest i dont think a video would pick the problem up? you know i could just be being a kill joy? ive watched videos etc and there really isnt a problem with that at all.. in fact the quality of the picture is fab? if i could use an analogy? remember when the volume control on your stereo would get dust in it? and you would have to twiddle the knob to cure it? its a bit like that? like i say it does not do it all the time but i notice it with white in the screen? like facebook google and when i am navigating thru the screens on the phone like settings etc? the white flickers white/slightly darker white? hence my example? now ive changed my text messages colour scheme so that doesnt annoy me now with it.. but obviously as a electronics layman.. i cant help but think if it was a problem with the screen itself, other colours would do the same as they would if there was a loose connestion? and also if it was a power flow problem with the battery? same thing? not just the white on screen? so i can only conclude as a layman again.. that it is some sort of issue with the os? screen refresh rate maybe? i just dont know? and i cant help think stupidly or not that when htc finally get around to an os update to 4.2.2 (or whatever it is) from 4.1.2 the whole thing will be resolved?
Could it be the auto brightness doing its thing? Try turning it off maybe that might solve it.
I might be totally wrong, be great if that fixed it though. Good luck
well well well!!!! And there you have it!! or at least something like that? ive always used the multi widgit for wifi bluetooth brightness etc? so i have brightness preset on that. instead ive gone into display settings, adjusted brightness with slider? no more flicker!! NO MORE FLICKER!! who ever you are!! thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Was this happening when the stock power widget brightness was set to medium?
If so, I have the same flickering ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243483 ), but I've found out that its not the power widgets fault per se, but the the the level that it sets it to. The widget set the brightness to 33%, and that the level which I'm getting flickering at, regardless of if it was set with the power widget or by the slider. The flickering happens on screen with a good amount of white. Google search result webpage is a good test case; it shows the flickering clearly at 33%. It also seems to depend on where the white is on the screen. For example, I can induce flickering at 40% brightness by moving a light colored icon from the bottom of the screen to the top! Moving it back to the bottom causes the flickering to go away. I can also do it by moving around or resizing the Gmail widget. Flickering happens for me to some extent at brightness values between 33 and 45 under certain screen conditions. Above or below these brightness values, the screen is top notch, no endless flickering at all regardless of how much white is on screen. I'm starting to think this has to do with the dynamic contrast feature of the One. It seems as though it falls in an endless loop of trying to change the contrast, as if it cant decide on what to set the contrast to. Or it could be that the dynamic contrast is fighting for a certain brightness value, but the manually set brightness is not allowing it. I might be wrong about this, and it could just be a hardware backlight problem, regardless, I wish HTC had the Sense (ha ha!) to allow us to disable dynamic contrast if we wanted to. I'm pretty sure this is whats causing the issue where people see flickering when the keyboard pops up.
screen issue?
hi..
i had the widget set on the third setting, the fourth being the brightest. i had the same problem with my first phone and thought at the time it may have been a backlight problem? or power flow problem? i sent that phone back and the next phone did the same? after posting on here.. i removed the widget and manually adjusted the brightness. i like the screen quite bright, manual adjustment cleared the problem for me. i gotta say yep the flicker was more visible on screens with alot of white, google, facebook, texts? and way way annoying! i can only suggest you try the same as i did? perhaps it is just a quirk with the htc? or maybe the os? you never know, when the update to keylime or whatever it is called comes out the flicker may go totally?
JUST had this on facebook? hope it helps?

Hey guys,
This thread is not about the camera taking photos with banding lines, instead about the actual display.
Does anyone have vertical banding lines most notorious when displaying a full grey screen in low brightness.
I've read the verge review and seems to have some banding as well, anyone as well? Thinking about replacing it for a third time.

Yes, I rarely get this issue. I captured a screen shot one day just in case, not sure how well it shows up, but look in the middle lower portion of the screen. Almost like a clock hand pointing at 6 o'clock.

Nevermind, it does not really show up in that pic. Sorry. But yes, I experiencing this issue. Mainly when I am in the settings menu, I think it based on the colors in there. I do not ever see it on my home screen or apps...at least my eye cannot perceive it.

You can't take a screenshot to see the problem. Its a hardware issue therefore you can only use an externeal photo of the screen. Check on grey full color screen. I think I will not replace it, I may risk on another issue..

Yeah, I had not planned on replacing mine either. I so infrequently see it, and even when I do, it really does not impact anything. I was not aware it was a hardware issue, seems there could be a bug fix for problem then.

Its funny cause the band shows up in the screen shot on my phone, but probably because the conditions are right, not cause its actually in the pic.
Vertical lines are something you should replace your phone for. Horizontal lines like in the screenshot is just the banding of the colors and happens on every single stock android phone because it's apart of the software

Could u check through a full grey background whether ur greyd are fully consistente? I mean there no faint lines whatsoever. Perhaps ur phone is the same as mine and u have not realized it given that it seems to be fairly normal with amoled displays
I was just about to post about this very issue. I created a quick image to show everyone what the issue is. The lines are not as drastic as I made them look, but it should give you the idea of what it looks like on the screen.

No. That is not the issue we are speaking about. The issue we are referring to is VERTICAL and only appears on greyish/black screens, like the settings screen. The horizontal lines are normal for this phone.

Precisely. You can't really use self screenshots to see this problem I'm talking about. Its about the amoled itself having these vertical banding lines(canvas-like strokes). Open Facebook and tap the search button and tap on the search bar without actually writing any name. Tap down the keyboard. For me the deep blue background has the most prominent banding lines for me. I have one week to think whether I should replace it. If everybody actually have these lines and NOT a solid color on full greys or deep blue I won't replace it.
PS. TheVerge moto x review says that it also have some banding lines on grays. I'd be great if you guys could check ur screens like I just explained. Hope I explain it well
Damn amoled!
Someone with the problem should post a sample pic/screen shot so others can download it and attempt to see the problem.
Just download a color test app that makes ur whole screen of a determined color. Put it on grey and check whether ur whole Grey screen doesn't have any vertical line banding. In case it doesn't have any of these lines, please let me know.
If it does have banding, take a screenshot and see it on ur computer monitor and see how the Grey should be displayed(full solid grey without lines)
I don't care enough to install an app, checking out a screen shot is quick and easy.
Took a photo with my tablet. These are the lines im talking about.
Also use the screenshot so u can check whether u have the same problem.
With the screen shot downloaded and displayed on my Moto X I can detect no banding of any kind. I tried it in dim and bright light. Screen brightness is set to auto so it did adjust with ambient light. Maybe I would see it if I manually cranked brightness to max.

Thank you, so my case is a defect, a third replacement will happen I guess. Great phone nevertheless.
It is possible it is something that was fixed going from 4.2.2 to 4.4.x, seems unlikely though. I notice you are on 4.2.2. I am on 4.4.2.
Impossible, my issue is definetively not software related but hardware related. When I see this screen shot on an LCD based device like my PC monitor, no banding is present. After all the pointless investigation this issue is sometimes present on amoled devices like the galaxy nexus.
Hello dear xda-community,
I just returned from my vacation to Mexico. Whilst being there and taking pictures I encountered a very strange dilemma with the display and the brightness-automatic of the P10: Even if I deactivated the automatic screen-brightness, the system shaded when shooting pictures in the bright sunlight. Which resulted in a barely seeable screen, whereby the S7 of my girlfriend provided a sharp and bright screen.
I really wonder what caused this strange behaviour, and if anyone of you experienced a similar behaviour? I really don't get it why a feature still works when it's deactivated -__-
Thanks, cheerz
J
did no one experience this issue?
I experienced this, too.
But mostly I got it working with manual focus.
The most annoying thing is that the colors are a bit darken with bright sunlight, even if the sun isn't in the picture. The colors seems to be faded, the saturation is very low. See the attachment, the smaller prop plane is blue in reality but on this photo it looks like black, like the background buildings, too.
Hello Janno,
my issue is not with the postproduction, but with the lightsensor which is shading the whole display (even if this option has been disabled)
Thanks for your reply though, I chose a bad headline
Um getting this issue too... After about 10mins in the bright sun light the phone dims...even when i turn off automatic brightness and increase the brightness level it wont work...i think its a flaw on oreo update...when using nougat this never encountered

I guess it has something todo with the device temperature - Have the same behavior while using navigation :x
hm... not sure if it's really temperature-driven, since in the lockscreen no dimming took place and the display was shining in brightest and good readable colors.

B365 is an Oreo update.
I am pretty sure it is temperature issue, had it on oreo 360 and 365 after update. It happens while I am driving with navigation (waze)and charging and direct sunlight on the device. Then I take the p10 and place it in front of the air conditioner opening for 30 seconds and everything is ok.

Same problem
In application's it get dark even you have automatic switched off. This issue is a really annoying and looks like connected with temperature.
My P10 was/is on B365 as this issue happened. Just got it back today from repairs, of course they found nothing^^
So it seems really to be a software-issue. Any way to fix this?
