[Q] does your Note show "AT&T" and "3G" on home-screen? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got my Note today in the mail and super excited. Called AT&T to provide my IMEI (lost my previous phone) and SIM card number. Also have set APN.
I noticed on my home screen it doesn't say "AT&T" and "3G" like an iphone - is that normal?
Thanks!

I don't think you needed to contact ATT. I didn't and I just setup the APN and am getting HSPA+. Honestly contacting ATT can cause more problems IMHO. Best to keep them out of it... lol. Here's the APN I used to get HSPA+. Mind you I'm on the grandfathered unlimited data.

Yeah, thanks for all the info. (I had to call AT&T they had the IMEI number of my previous phone so I had to call and I lost my sim card so I got a new one.)

Major 3G issues n1/AT&T

I am having major 3G issues with my n1 on AT&T. This seems to have started when I upgraded to Froyo and the latest radio. I've had this issue with both CM6-RC1 (currently running) as well as LeoFroYo. I have checked the APN settings and they seem correct as I got them from the cyanogenmod wiki APNlist. I get connected to 3G and the H icon appears showing that I'm on HSDPA. It works fine long enough for me to do exactly one thing. I can either load a webpage, make one call, or send one SMS and then it dies. It stays on the 3G network (never drops to edge) but the up arrow just stays lit and the down arrow never lights up. All calls will fail, no data, no SMS/MMS. If I cycle in and out of airplane mode or reboot it'll let me do one more thing... rinse, repeat.
If I go to "Network Operators" and search it finds AT&T and says it has registered on the network.
Current info:
CM6-RC1 (I've also tested with CM6 nightlies and LeoFroYo)
Kernel 2.6.34-cyanogenmod

[Q] AT&T Internet slowing down for International Note

For the last few days, I noticed my AT&T internet connection slowed down drastically (from like 3M down to 300k on SpeedTest) and the protocol is jumping back and forth from H to H+ to 3G.
My phone has Fast Dormancy disabled. It would normally stay at "3G" and then jumps to H+ when I started using the Internet. Starting from a few days ago, I noticed it would stay at "H" and then trying to acquire a H+ signal, but sometimes in vain and fell back down to 3G and going in a loop. I toggled Fast Dormancy back on, and it didn't make a difference.
This happens on both the "wap.cingular" and "phone" APN settings. No matter which one I use, now the data speed is only around 300K. It used to be around 3M.
I am on a tiered 4GB data plan. I am not a heavy data user (averaging about 1G to 2G a month) and I never received any text message from AT&T telling me that I am being throttled.
I live in South Florida, and I am wondering if anyone experienced the same slow down. Please share. Thanks. (By the way, on subsequent investigation, I found that rebooting the phone corrected the problem, both yesterday and today.)
I'm having the *exact* same problems up here in Seattle. I hope someone can help us out!
Also in Florida here, had a tiered plan and was experiencing the same regardless of APN used too.
I was told, "With THAT phone, you'll never get 4g speeds" twice by a representaive as I voiced my displeasure at the speeds I was getting. "Now, if you want to buy one of our phones, you'll get 4g speeds." I laughed and said, "No, I just want to disconnect my service, I don't want a 2 year contract and I don't want an inferior phone."
similar problems here in NYC
phone way slower
data speeds test confirm up & down speeds are way down cut way more than in half
something is up im gonna give it a few more days before I dump at&t all together
just doesnt make sense 4 me to pay at&t 2 play games w my connection and im sick of the run around nickel and diming they do to us...they want u locked 2 them and they hate.ublocked phones amd freedom
anyhow the service isnt anywhere near as good as they claim at least not here in NYC
end of rant

Same problem here and I've also experienced no data at times in areas that I have been quite good in the past. My download speeds have gone from a high of 1800kbps last week to about 1200 now. I have a 4G sim card installed and the following are my APN settings:
APN: wap.cingular

MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireles.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN typr: internet + mms
It seems to have coincided with the release of the at&t note on 2/19
Im in SWFL as well and have noticed significantly slower connections lately on my International Note.
I actually ordred an ATT note and ganked the SIM card to put in my N7000 and am sporting that phone's (the i717) IMEI...I came from a Nitro HD prior to this phone and was getting 9-13 mbps down (no LTE here just H+) and with the same settings am getting half of that now...crazy! Not sure what the deal is but it would certainly be nice to get back to the H+ I had a few weeks ago...

Also I did notice a bit of an increase from the build.prop info that was posted around here earlier...thought it might be worth a shot and ended up being a bit of a boost!
Also forgot to mention that I put my network preference as WCDMA only...that seemed to help speed it up a bit...although seemed counterintuitive (with AT&T being GSM)
Hope we can find some help!!
Considering At&t, they may be throttling all international phones now! Lol

I am currently chatting online with a representative and have pointed her to this forum post. I am hoping she will forward it to the ATT engineers. I will let you know when we are finished! She is currently consulting with a Tier 2.
---------- Post added at 01:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------
All done with the rep. They couldn't figure it out, of course, but she said she was going to try and get this post and my information to the engineers to see if they can figure it out. It's better then nothing I guess...
As I mentioned in my first post, a temporary fix (for me at least) seemed to be a reboot. After a few days of experiencing this bizarre phenomenon, I decided to reboot my phone yesterday morning, and that seemed to correct it for a while.
This morning when I witnessed the H,H+,3G loop again and tested the speed, it was like 300K. I immediately rebooted the phone and re-tested. The speed went back to the usually 2M-3M range. It has remained so for the last few hours. (knock on wood)
I am wondering if AT&T is tweaking their towers to optimize them for the new AT&T-branded Note. The fact that the International Note now idles at "H" instead of "3G" is definitely different than before. (To be exact, when you access the Internet actively, it goes up to H+, which is expected. But when you are done, it dips to 3G for a split second before reverting to an idle state of "H".)

If there is one major problem for me it is data speeds. I'm in Boston and AT&T's speeds & connectivity here are atrocious. Any tips on increasing speeds e.g. settings/apn's etc are appreciated. btw I have always disabled fast dormancy, which doesn't really seem to do much difference on or off.

I've never actually had the proxy and port proxy, but oddly enough I just tried it with and it was even worse. btw I think mmsc is required for proper mms, and shouldn't have any effect on data transfer (I think)
Did you guy see this portion?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437805
You still have to disable a feature on your Note called Fast Dormancy. Fortunately, this is really quick and easy to do. But first, what the hell is that, and why do I have to disable it? Well without getting all technical, simply put, it's a feature which allows a device to very quickly switch from an idle data state to UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ and back to idle again, and generally work more efficiently, thus improving performance, and saving battery life. Problem is, in order for this feature to work, BOTH the device and the network that device is on need to support it. Unfortunately, AT&T does not currently support Fast Dormancy. As a result, by having fast dormancy enabled on your device, it'll have the complete opposite effect than what it was intended to have. Basically, your battery life will suck more, data connections will be erratic, slow, and unreliable, and you're effectively wasting data overhead on a feature that, for AT&T, just doesn't exist. Disable it, and your Note will fly like it was intended.
To disable Fast Dormancy, from your dialer, enter in *#*#9900#*#*
This should pull up your SysDump menu. There, close to the bottom it should indicate your current Fast Dormancy state, enabled by default. Select that option, and it should indicate that Fast Dormancy is disabled. Exit and enjoy! Reboot the phone for good measure though. You generally don't have to, but sometimes it irons out any issues that may arise.

Yep sure did...some really good info there. I did and tried just about all the settings and they worked quite well but after some tweaking I figured the settings I'm currently using seem to work out pretty well. Good looking out tho!
Noticed the same issue on my international Note - slow/non-existent internet connection, phone/text does not seem to be affected.
It also seems like my battery is running down faster, like it's searching for a signal all of the time. I disabled Fast Dormancy awhile back.
This all started around Friday for me. Hope it gets fixed by AT&T or someone finds a workaround.

Have you tried playing around with installing some different modem files from this post?:

All the other stuff stays as is and name is whatever you like. Also try to set it for WCDMA only. Hope that helps!

Apn settings

I know there is a thread around about this but a few nights ago i flashed the V20c and put the apn settings in and had the best data ive had.
well i was messing around with roms and had to flash the v20c again well now after putting the apn in again i get now MMS and slow data? any ideas
Geez everything worked flawlessly when i first flash v20c. MMS data. now im using the same damn settings and its crap!
People double and triple wipe factory settings sometimes. Ive always only ever done it once but after about 4 flashes of V20c and V20b I've noticed tons of weird issues each time. It's probably cause I didn't do muliple wipes between them and stuff carried over. That would be my suggestion to you. Here are the settings everyone else is using.

I however didn't have much luck with those settings. Seems like my baseband crashed more often or I had MMS issues. So I copied the settings from my wifes LG Thrill. This is what I'm using with no problems (maybe 1 baseband crash a day a opposed to 5)

When I put my sim in my Skyrocket, I receive pics just fine, so I know it is not an account issue. Just cant seem to get this thing to work correctly.

Help: tbaytel/rogers can't dl/ul mms attachments

I can't seem to send or receive mms attachments like video or picture, and I am on 3G. I have rogers apn settings and can brows the net, send texts, make calls no problem.
Problem
I am signed up on tbaytel/rogers network on a 3 year plan, and live in Ottawa now for school. I lost my original rogers captivate and bought a at&t version from ebay as I didn't want to buy another tbaytel captivate.
I am using the latest cm9 captivate nightly build, yet this problem has been plaguing me since I got the at&t version. I have tried using different modems but no go.
I can't seem to get a competent answer out of tech at tbaytel or rogers. I even asked sales and can’t find anything on the net.
If someone could help me out, maybe, send me tbaytel apn settings??
I’ll try and post the logcat. I still believe that I need the right apn but I could be wrong.

I have the same problem on Rogers too. It has started since using ICS Rom builds like CM9 and AOKP builds. Mine is the i896 Rogers version of the Captivate so this is a software issue not hardware.
