Anyone else noticing that they have any dark spots on there screen that are slightly dimmer than other spots?
BAMP
Okay, so I noticed that if I press on the screen a little harder than I should that it looks like the LCD under the glass is getting pressed down.
Is this something normal? I don't recall my fascinate ever having this problem? I mean.... yeah the fascinate had problems but not related to the screen.
I don't see this on my Bionic. But my wife's DroidX has an issue similar to what you're describing. It doesn't take much pressure at all, just a normal press on the screen and she gets what looks like an oil slick effect. Does that sound similar to your issue? I know it's off topic, but I was reading some reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a lot of people are reporting an "oil slick" issue with the screen. So I'm wondering if they're all related and possibly a symptom of a particular screen design? I don't think the Tab uses a screen remotely similar to the Moto phones, but the symptoms seem very similar so perhaps they share some type of common design?
When not pressing it looks kind of like this,

While pressing while playing a game it looks like an oil slick or like color streaks where the LCD is healing itself. Although now super noticeable you can totally see that there are some dark spots in the middle of the screen after I have used it for the last few months.
If you have an image in your previous post, i'm not able to see it...but it sounds just like what my wife's droidX is doing...and the oil slick behavior from the galaxy tab. My wife's screen has been doing that for a few months now and I haven't seen any adverse effects, it just looks funny but works fine otherwise. I believe Samsung is taking back the affected tabs if there's a warranty claim...haven't tried pursuing the issue with my wife's phone tho.
Possibly some good news for you...I just looked at my wife's DroidX last night, and the "oil slick" is gone. Couldn't see it with the screen on or off. I even tried pushing down pretty firmly in the area it was and nothing. Hopefully it goes away for you.
No, it did not. I got a refurb, does the same thing. This one will be going back too.
That's it!
I am having the same issue with my Bionic. I already returned the first one and got a replacement. The replacement was a refurb, which irks me..anyway, this refurb has the same problem and Moto says all they can do is send me another refurb.
This is a serious issue and I bet it's on a lot of their phones. It's not easy to see, so many people probably haven't noticed.
I am really pissed and I'm think about just using insurance to buy a completely different phone instead.

So based on that and, what I would assume some other people as well, that there is probably a general affliction to the device. It could be inferred that it is only a matter of time before people start to realize that there are dark spots on the screen and start to complain.
mistawolfe are you still using the bionic or have you totally switched to the RAZR? Does this issue manifest itself the same was with the RAZR and the BIONIC?
I have the same issue with the LCD distortion when pressed. It was a lot worse with the screen protector on. Not too noticeable now that its off. I figure if I scratch the crap out of my screen I will just get a re-furb sent for the distortion issue...
I can't remember off the top of my head which forum i read this on but the dark spots are due to the construction and materials used to make the screen and isn't a defect at all. As for the "oil slick" effect, i can only imagine that to be an issue where the glass is thinner in certain spots and is actually pressing on the LCD, just like pressing on an LCD monitor.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Well I went through 3 different Bionics at this point and after a few weeks they all get these dark spots.
Have a replacement Rezound on the way to replace the Bionic. It's too bad that the Bionic, for me, has had so many small issues because it's a solid device with a lot of potential.
And the Rezound is also a turd.
First Verizon sends me a phone and a back cover and "forgot" the battery.
Then get the battery and power the damned thing on to find out I can't log into my google account because HTC "forgot" the ` backtick in the sense keyboard and also "forgot" that the stock android keyboard doesn't suck and doesn't take any effort to include.
I quit. There is obviously no winning.

How many of you have at least some light bleeding on your N7? I've got some minor bleeding in my bottom left corner and just wondering if it's pretty normal on these tablets.
Here's a good app to test for it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeleveque.backlightbleedtest&hl=en
Very minor for me, only noticeable on the boot screen (Google logo).
I am more bothered by the washed-out screen after playing movies:

Terrible light bleeding along the left side.

I feel sick with that bloody screen...
Yep. The one I got from the Play Store has bleeding in the lower left corner. I already called for an RMA, my new one should be here by Wed I hope.
Got mine from the Playstore. Ever so slight on the bottom right (held landscape). Most people probably wouldn't notice but it's annoying me. Might RMA tonight. Can this be done without sitting on the phone to Google? Last time I could hardly hear the guy.
Has anyone tried tightening/loosening the screws inside to rectify the leakage?

I tried. It doesn't help a bit. Rang Google from Australia and waited for a long time. Got an email from them with instructions to arrange pick up from FedEx but the guy forgot to attach the RMA form. Reply via email and no reply for over 12 hours. Will call them again tomorrow.
In all honesty I put "none" even though I saw some in the bottom-left corner also.
The reason I put none is because I had to use screen test to turn the whole screen black and turn off all the lights and ambient light sources in my room in order to see it. And even then, it was very, very minor.
People seem to complain about their N7 a lot, but my own experiences with the hardware have been flawless, barring shorter-than-advertised battery life
You are the lucky one I guess. Today I went to a retail store and buy another one. This one doesn't have the light bleeding issue, but the screen flickers a lot, and this issue is very visible in a dark room and with a white background. Contradicts to what others are saying, the flickering happens in all apps as long as the background is white.
Disappointed but not entirely unexpected with any brand new product.

Has anyone got a photo of the screen working perfectly? I get paranoid that I'm being to precious about the quality.
None.
Ordered from PCWorld UK.
Minor at top of screen and along the left side. Seems to have gotten worse since I've been using it.
Think I am returning the tablet to play store and not purchasing another. I don't have time to deal with defective hardware.
last picture on my review shows my screen.
it has HEAVY bleeding, now waiting for replacement...

Yes, 4 white blobs on the left side when looking at lighter colored apps.... like Google Play books, Google Talk, Gmail, Currents, etc....
Kinda bummed... on the fence about a RMA.

The colours are pretty good, especially the white:

after some browsing, or benchmark (when the phone is warming a bit)

I don't find this is a good product from LG.
I hope this is not usual...but personally I'm disappointed :crying:
Looks like the glue spot issues the One X had/still has...
It's to do with how the screen is glued to the LCD.
I really cba going through issues similar to the One X's launch again, that device had a horrendous hardware launch.
Are you in Europe and did you buy this from an EU carrier? If so, it would seem that LG diverted units from Google to go to other vendors. Google actually had to cancel announced plans to sell the Nexus 4 via Playstore in the Netherlands and Belgium at the very last minute because LG couldn't deliver units. I suspect LG's reputation isn't going to be helped by the disastrous launch of this phone. Google deserves to share the criticism too. (There's a rumor that LG delivered only 5,000 units to Google, but then rumors aren't substantiated and it may well be false. However, the UK Playstore sold out in under an hour and the US Playstore was sold out in under a half and hour so it sounds like there weren't a lot of phones available.)
Yeah this definitely looks like the issue that one x had with their launch. Not good!
Christ almighty, this phone is Frankenstein resurrected. How many things went wrong/are wrong again!? I can't keep track anymore. Worst f-cking phone EVER. Sucks it looks so good though.

If you press down on the screen (on the yellow patch as if reviving a dead pixel), does the yellow patch disfigure? Could be some glue that hasn't set in properly yet...leave it overnight and see if it disappears
Well, if it's after the benchmarks, it means it either got so hot that physically damaged lcd, or just helped glue to evaporate faster than it should. I suggest not pushing it for the first few days cpu wise, let everything dry out as much as possible naturally.

On the section 3.5 of Screen section of the French review from frandroid.com here :
http://www.frandroid.com/test/116648_test-du-nexus-4/2/#3
You can see photos of the yellow tint. The text translated from French :
"After some testing, we noticed a weird behavior of the screen on a white background. A blue light escapes from the top of the screen. Moreover, a yellow spot appears. It's sometimes difficult to notice at first sight. Knowing the hardware we have is final, this is very worrisome."
I think it's the same like sony xperia-s screen.

The day i got my Galaxy S4 i went straight to charge the device. I left it on my nightstand which is under a window and when i saw the reflection of my blinds through the screen, they where bent out of shape and the reflection looked distorted. Looking closer, the screen seems to have a circular dip in the middle left-ish area. All the devices I tested this do not have a distort. (iphone 5 and 4S, the SIII)
I'd like for everyone to look at there device and make sure they don't have this also. I cant check the devices over at carrier stores, abit busy sadly...
I've given a Sample of lines that u can use as a test and also left a quick video, ill try to make a better one but its all i could at this moment. Also its extremely hard to get it on a video vs what u see in person =/

Best way's too test are as follows.
1) place your phone right in front of you on your computer desk and look at your Monitors reflection. It works extremely well when you look at Lines or a lot of text.
2) Look at a bunch of stuff that's well lit.

Man, I have exactly the same problem and the easiest way for me to see it is to have a reflection of a fluorescent tube on the black screen. It's ugly! My first galaxy s4 had dead pixels, my second galaxy s4 had scuffing all over it, a large scratch on the MICRO sd card port, overheated and would constantly shut off, followed by the display that completely died a day later. Sprint advised me to give the HTC one a shot. As soon as I got the HTC one home, noticed paint run off, gaps between panels, dings, dents, pretty much the poorest quality control standards I have ever seen. Now I have to find away to get sprint to allow a FOURTH return on a 600.00 device. I may have to get mean, I dont like to act that way, but what sprint has put me through to obtain a working 600.00 high end device is not acceptable, I would not wish the experience I am going through on my worse enemy.
Im not picky, and I understand mistakes when they happen. But two damaged/defective S4's, and one damaged/defective HTC one in matter of 7 days? I really cant even believe it.
All I buy is Samsung products when it comes to electronics, never in my life have I EVER received two defective units in a row. I feel like a crazy crack addict every time I go back to the sprint store and request a replacement. If sprint didn't have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee, I would be out 600.00, because there is no way in a million years samsung or HTC would take responsibility for scuffing or damage to the body of the device. Even with sprints 14 day satisfaction guarantee, you are only allowed 1 device exchange. So basically, im entitled to nothing with this issue, and any day sprint is going to show me the door or refer me to Asurion for a 3 day old 600 dollar phone.

All brightness level. The whole screen had a yellow hue if look at it straightly. But the yellow tint will disappear if the phone is tiled to any direction by 10 degrees.

Mine does this too- it's a "feature" of the last gen OLED displays that Samsung have fixed with the new gen (which Moto obviously couldn't source for this phone). My Nex did this too. Screen adjuster + manual brightness over 50% fixes it for me

interesting.. you mind sharing you setting for the screen adjuster? It's quite obvious and I wonder how all those online reviews don't seem to mention it. A blob of yellow/orange-ness moving across the screen as you tilt the phone

I don't think so, but anything can happen. And not just with Motorola, defects happen everywhere. I guess my point was that since everything else with my phone is perfect except for a yellow tint depending on viewing angle, I'm not going to roll the dice and replace it unless I know the yellow screen is a fluke.

Yea, I would be very happy if my screen is the same as the one I saw in ATT store, where there''s still some yellow tint, but it's lighter and much harder to notice, even in full brightness. Keeping my fingers crossed.
The Verge just published a review on the Droid Turbo and it says the phone has some kind jelly like scrolling. What do you guys think about it? Is it for real?
I can't post links here, so just search for "Motorola Droid Turbo review" on The Verge's website. They included a gif where you can see what I'm talking about.
I never noticed that on my Turbo.

Yea I have no doubt seen that in the store. Really bothered me.
Mine doesn't do anything like that. Wonder if it's because I switched to ART or if it's only on some devices.
Mine doesn't do that, I even tried it on their site like was in their video and smooth as silk.
Yes, mine does the same thing, though it's not nearly as bad as their example. I'm hoping I'll just get used to it.
Yeah, I returned my Turbo because of the issue. If it gets sorted out with updates I may take the plunge again, but until that time I'm out. There is another thread in the general section talking about the same issue. It's referred to as screen warping in that one.

That's the gif from theverge's review. I haven't been able to recreate this on my device, I'd recommend asking for an exchanged unit if you see it on your Turbo.

Yep, that's how mine and all of the display models were. It was more obvious when scrolling though the xda app. Just try holding your finger on the screen, pull it down, and then go back up with it without picking up your finger. Maybe it only effected the first models but I haven't saw one that doesn't have the issue yet. :/ I would have kept it if it weren't for that issue.

I have a feeling it's a display driver issue, as some other 2560x1440 devices have had varying degrees of severity with this issue. Mine appears flawless in all apps and websites on Chrome, so you might have more luck in the future with a more recent shipment of units.
I have two turbos with a Sept 24th build date, 64gb nylon, both do not have the jelly scroll issue. Tried numerous apps, but I could replicate what I see in that GIF.

I hope you're right. I'm buying off contract so I would have to verify that the issue was fixed in person for me to take the plunge again. Like I said though, all of models that I have seen has it. It's been quite a few too.
I had this issue with my DROID that I bought about a week ago. Returned it since, it still had alot of kinks to work out.
My Turbo 32GB has an Oct 7 build date and I can't replicate that flaw on mine either.
I've noticed this at certain times on my Turbo. Honestly it's subtle to the point that I thought I was imagining it. At least for me personally it doesn't bother me at all. When I first saw it I actually wondered if it was intentional and thought it was kinda cool lol.
Can not replicate the gif. Tried and tried. Used chrome. Is that the browser everyone is using? I assume so since that's what the phone is shipped with. But you never know. I can see how that would be irritating
Just so we're all clear, what that gif is supposed to illustrate is the fact that when you scroll up and down things seem to expand and contract as you do so. Not the delay that appears to be in the gif, that is just part of the effect of the slow mo, all phones have that.
Every droid turbo I have seen has this effect. At this point I've seen it on about 15 phones. I've never seen a droid turbo that does not have it. It is most apparent on sites where there is a lot of color in blocks because it's easier for the eye to see the blocks expanding and contracting than with text

Anyone know of a good website or app to test for this scrolling effect?

I see it on my turbo, disabling animations in developer options doesn't do anything. I am not sure its even an animation effect, it may just be some lag in the scaler. Its not specific to a particular app, its throughout android. Hopefully they address it in the next update.
