I flashed cm7 ICS port by teamhacksung.. And now trying to restore a nandroid backup but I get error message: failed to restore boot image.. then nothing happens.. Do you know what the problem is? Do i have to tick usb-debugging before attemting to do a nandroid restore?
Or is it not possible to go from CM7 build to a stock backup ( JVT ) ?
i think you need to flash stock jvt, then semaphore kernel, then restore

Can some1 confirm this ?
sI think is due to the fact that ICS has a new version of recovery... So, you have to flash a GB rom to restor your backup

Hello, I have been using darky 9.5 rom for a while without problems but today CM7 launched the long waited nightly and I decided to try it. I made a backup from the dark core recovery and then flashed the CM7 rom perfectly. I didnt like it at all so I wiped everything in order to restore the darky backup...
And then the problems came up. The restore said successful but the phone stuck at first GT-I9000 logo. I reverted the phone to stock and installed clockworkmod but still cant boot into the rom. However, I can restore my first stock backup so I think its a boot.img problem or something like that.
Can I delete boot.img from the folder and try to restore with a darky rom installed? It should be the same boot.img
Its not a big deal but I hate to reinstall all my apps from the market and configure them!
Thanks!
Install the "stock rom" with kernel speedmod and bootloader that are in Sourceforge in CM7 (GT-I9000 FROYO full PDA) , after wipe all .
OK, restore your backup

So the order is:
1. Back to stock rom
2. Root the rom
3. Install speedmod
4. Install bootloader
5. Wipe
6. Restore
Am I right? Thanks!
The speedmod is including in the rom (is full rom stock with mod kernel)

Yes I did. Probably the backup is corrupted. I spent all this morning installing again the darky rom and configuring all my apps. Thank you anyway
I had the same problem, im not professional but I think its becouse Cm7 is 2.3.4 and Darky is 2.3.3...
I firstly flashed Froyo w/ bootloaders and then I installed Darky v10.
After that I want to CMW >advanced restore and restored my /data so I got all my programs back
I have a SGS GT-I9000 rooted n a ICS ROM
but when i tried to restore my default ROM back with CWM it got stuck on boot splash screen.
I also tried flashing the same kernel again but it didnt worked.
And when i boot into recovery mode it gives me errors like
E:can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E:can't open/cache/recovery/log
E:unknown volume for path[/cache/recovery/last_log]
and so on......
any solution anybody????plss.......
Hi.
You can't restore your old gingerbread stock from ICS via nandroid.
You must flash the Stock ROM with Odin.
Befor that maybe you can flash the ICS kernel again and boot into ICS, then backup your clockworkmod folder via USB. After the Backup flash a stock ROM and cf-root or semaphore 2.5.0 via Odin.... after that load your clockworkmod folder to your internal SD-Card and boot into CWM. Now you can restore your Backup from gingerbread.
Sorry for my poor english. I hope you understand me.
// use the semaphore 0.8.1 kernel for ics. Than boot your phone and save the clockworkmod folder. When dosn't work, 1. flash the stock ROM 2. flash cf-root 3 boot in cwm go to restore and look for the backup... it must be in there

Thanx mate thanx a lot
u saved my mobile from dying.
You're welcome.
my act is:
1. do a nandroid Backup of the system befor flash a new one.
2. Save the hole Backup folder on my PC and rename it like " system_old_date "
3. Flash the new system.
4. do a nandroid backup from the new system.
5. Save the hole Backup folder on my PC and rename it like " system_new_date "
With this 5 steps I'm always on the safe side.
i do the same but this time dont kno how but it went wrong and those errors poped out

I think:
The problem is ICS and Gingerbread are differnet systems, with different Kernels and paths.
When you start the restoreprocess the systemdata will be restored but not the kernel with CWM. Both systems have different paths, and so you get this error.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's strange. Perhaps a developer knows why that is?
Reflash
Perhaps, the instruction to installing ICS states that you should have done a full wipe (data + partition) and installed the ROM/Kernal again. It would have worked...anyways you are back on GB, enjoy
So i did a nandroid backup before installing an ics custom rom. Now i wanna go back to simplicity rom. Last time i tried it said that it could mount the sd and all. Is there something i need to do before?

I would just flash a kernel with recovery through odin and do a nandroid restore from there, if you're already in JVP.

Yup this is the right way to do it. Get GB ROM with CWN recovery first though ODIN and then restore nandroid backup through it.
When you restore a backup with cwm do you get all your apps back?
And what exactly does it restore?
The only time i tried the restore function was when i flashed ics but it was a gb backup and i got an error .so help me please
If u want to restore a gb. backup when on ics, u need to flash gb. Kernel. then u reboot directly into recovery(advanced/reboot recovery) and restore your backup.
And yes all your apps and settings will also be restored.
thank you..putting a gb kernel wont brake the phone?
No, bootloader on i9000 ics roms is ginger. And you don't have to wipe anything.
if u know witch ginger kernel u were running, flash that kernel and restore your backup
But DON'T boot up your phone. Just reboot into recovery from recovery and then restore your backup from the ginger kernel.

Can you backup custom roms? Because im having trouble.
Yesterday i updated from dark knight v3 rom to v5.5 and backed up the rom through recovery mode because rom manager wouldnt work (kept getting the android guy on its back with an exclamation mark)
I decided to go back to v3. I booted into recovery, wiped date/cache then restored my backup rom. When it finished, it stuck at the boot animation for 30 minutes. I pulled the battery and tried to boot into recovery but it just kept rebooting until i took my fingers off the up+power the proceeded to animatiin where it would just hang..... did i do something wrong?

flashed a ROM today and it was working.. then it rebooted itself and I changed the kernel.. my imei lost...was using that kernel for long..I had a copy of efs from cm10.1 ..copied back ..set permission.. imei is correct... same as on back of the phone.. but no service ..any help... urgent...
Guaranteed method for IMEI restore is flash back to stock GB (no bootloaders), flash Corn kernel to get CWM, repartition the phone to match what you had (CM10.x, flash twice the same file), then restore your OS backup. You don't need to reboot the phone or setup the new CM installation, just restore your backup right after repartitioning.
