I swear there is a setting to keep the screen on while charging or docked but I cannot find it.
It would logically be under settings/display but its not.
Running CM7 latest nightly currently, and I swear I have seen the option, although maybe on a different Rom?.
I want to keep the screen from timing out while in my car dock. It stays on with CarHome Ultra but if I get a call the screen times out and then wont go back to to CarHome.
Any suggestions?

Settings / Application / Development. Now if you want to know why it is there instead of display, that one I can't answer
Thank you! I knew I had seen it someplace.
Applications certainly does seem an odd place for it.

i FOUND THE solution i have exactly the same problem 2 days i tried resetting , formating, hard reset, even rooting to diffrent rooms the problem was never solved .
i had following problem
1. the phone will automatically swtich to docking, its annoying
2.some time i got old galaxy s 1 home screen
3. when i put a battery it will show its charging which im not charging and will pop a msg high volage, also.
its not a software issue which ibelieve but the USB hub under your phone, due having contacts with moisture new phones wont have this problem, im not saying u guys may had dipped ur phone, but having ur phone in ur pocket or sweat is 1st problem and having a bath and ur phone is in toilet,
HERE IS THE SOLUTION
get a alocohol from pharmacy and wool, get a tooth pick put the small cotton at the head and run ur usb HUB rema phone has to be off take batt out, after cleaning u will see the USB hub is clean alot of dirt removed, then wait 5-10 min to dry never plug charger or else u will pay for ur mistake, after 10min turn ur phone on it will be total fine.
ITS THE DIRT WHICH IS STICK ON PIN 4-5 making Problem.
i hope it can help tht how it work for me

As to the case with magnet, i use one that has two in it, with no issues,
What are your power management settings ? incase you do not know, go to settings>power> then at the bottom advanced tab, un-check the turn off device box .

Well in this case power off means to put the device to standby -- this is normally what you want to keep your battery from draining too fast.
It sounds like in his case the phone is actually turning off, since it has to boot.
hence my advice to check the contacts

I agree, it's a good idea to clean the contacts carefully with a cotton bud and contact cleaner or IPA (applied to the cotton bud). Any grease (such as from fingerprints) will likely not be seen on the contacts, but it's effects will be felt in this way along with possible erratic indications of low battery charge state or charging probs. If that doesn't make a diff, the next thing to check would be to remove the blah blah blah package, that software company always makes unreliable programs
But seriously, the o/p is unlikely to find someone with the exact same combination experiencing the same problem so I think the easiest way to track down the culprit is to do a hard reset and then progressive reinstall, testing for a day or two after installing each package until you find which package, when installed, brings on the problem.
thank you for your answers folks.
here is what i have done, cleaned the battery contacts.
using a different case.(not sure if it matters but no magnets)
and removed Winterface...
so far there have not been any issues with the Phone's power being off.
(yeah i knew it after i wrote it the whole standby/off thing thanks)
so far no issues for 12 hours or so.
@F2504x4
How long have you used the magnet case, and do you use it everyday?
just curious...?

first Glad to hear that you hopefully resolved the issue, but it will be hard to say just what fixed it, I drive racing karts, and one thing I learned is to only make one change at a time in order to figure out if it was helpful or not..something to think about..
As to the case, been using it for over a year just about 24/7 with both a 8525 and the Tilt, before I had a Pearl with a magnet , no issues , cool thing about the Pearl was that the magnet would cause the Pearl to go into sleep mode when holstered it, by design and would wake up as soon as you pulled it from the pouch .
so i do no think the case was the issue.
BTw the magnets are very strong and the flap will not open very easily.
ok guys and gals, heres one for you. i know im a noob but this one has got me stumped and i cant for the life of me find anything in this or any forum or even google. i have the tilt. just flashed a cooked rom for the first time several weeks ago thanks to everyone on here and all the FAQs and stickies. (to any other noob, all the info is out there!!!!! dont be lazy!!! SEARCH AND READ YOUR HEART OUT!!!!) anyway, im running Witscheys latest 6.5 rom build 23071 HSPL 3.34 w/ radio 1.70.19.09. ive been tweakin it pretty much every day tryin to get it to the way i want.
well im so close to finishing and the the screen suddenly decided to randomly not respond to my touch. the buttons were the only way to control the phone. even after numerous soft resets. then it would decide to start responding. so i was doing some research and tried a couple diff methods of fixing "screen freezes" (but i dont think its a "screen freeze" as it worked fine with the use of the buttons) finally found a post in the thread for the room that read:

I had that same problem. Need to change the cache settings in Advanced Config. The filesystem cache defaults to 512kb, so I set it to auto and it doesn't freeze anymore. I also turned up the glyph cache to 32kb. Between the two, the phone interface runs fast and smooth.
so i tried that and it still didnt fix it. then i decided to just do a hard reset and install one app a day at a time (all the ones i had before the hard reset) to see if one of them was casing it. well after the hard reset i didnt notice the problem anymore. i was stoked. now all i needed to do was figure out which app was giving me trouble. WELL about 10 min later when i was texting my friends as usuall, my phone recieved a message but the screen was black. so i slid it open (wake on slide) and the screen turned on. replied to my buddy, closed the lid and the screen went black..... WTF? slid it open, screen on. closed, screen black.... and so forth. this is the way it has been since yesterday. even tried two more hard resets with no change.
NOW HERES THE WEIRD PART!!! if i slide it open JUST A LITTLE very slowly, the backlight turns on barely. just enuf to see the today screen but its very very dim. its as if there is a bad connection. but the screen is in portrait mode like it should be. if i open it fast the backlight turns on, screen shows portrait, then switches to landscape like it should. close it, it goes black but i know it switches back cuz the next time i open it, i can see it change again.
EVEN WEIRDER--- if open landscape, get into an app or program such as contacts where i can flick to scroll, ill close the lid, immediately flick the screen, open lid and low and behold my friends are just scrollin by!!!! the damn screen is responsive but there is no backlight!!! so to test i plugged into my laptop, activated mymobiler, and EVERYTHING works like it should when i touch the screen, use the buttons, open close the lid. it all shows up on my laptop. but the damn screen is still black when lid is closed. so i can literally look at my laptop and touch the black screen on my tilt and controll it!! WHY IS THE BACKLIGHT SHUTTING OFF WHEN ITS CLOSED!!!!???
so then i decided to tear the damn phone completely apart about 2 hours ago, check all connections, and clean all the dust. all connections checked out fine, put it back together and still have the problem. i know there is a magnet and sensor that tells the screen when to rotate when the screen is opened or closed but its obviously working cuz it will rotate the screen. my guess was that some kind of registry entry has been changed somehow. but then i realized thats not it because the hard resets didnt fix it. now im thinking hardware...... IM SO SORRY THIS POST IS SOOOOOO LOOOONNNNGGG but i dont know what else to do. phone was working great up until yesterday and i cant have this!!! has anyone had this problem with this or any other device or even know which direction to point me in??? PLEASE HELP!!! thanks in advance for any replies!!! the quicker ther better
I think your flat cable is broken. Doesn't make connection when closed (no backlight), barely connects when opened (backlight on).
So I think you need a new flat cable...
I agree with blueflame... I think it has nothing to do withthe rom flash.. it sounds like your ribbon cable is "Starting" to go.. unfortunatly it will only get worse where it wont; read you memory card, and evenutally your Sim card as well (speaking from experiance here).... If you are handy with tools, you can try to but a new one yourself and install it... But there are also some shops aroudnthe world, aswell and some members here who may be able to fix it for you... for a price (and not, I am not one of them)... Sorry for the bad news bud.. but I personally would rather knwo that than hard resettign 100 times and nrto beign able to figure out the problem...
hey. thanks for the fast replies! thats not exactly what i wanted to hear but like Teej said, its better to know than messing around with something else. now by flat cable are you reffering to the biggest ribbon cable inside the phone that connects the screen half of the phone to the keyboard half? Or the connector that comes directly out of the screen itself (meaning i buy a new screen and install and all is well) or is it another cable? but i think those are the only two that have anything to do with the screen other then the one for the sensor/magnet. here is a photo to help point out which ones. i have the manual so i can grab more photos if needed. thanks again for the help so far. good stuff. we are getting somewhere!!

Sound/music goes through it fine, the bluetooth is good but its not charging even though the indicator says it is.
I thought this could have been because I had Pandora steaming but even with it off (No GPS) it would still not charge.
I tried the cable by directly connecting it to my N1 and its charging perfectly ( I even enabled Navigation and it was still charging it).
What do you guys think could be the problem? It was working fine before. I am not sure if this started happening after I installed Froyo.

Do you have a skin/case or anyhting on your phone?
I had an issue with the desktop dock (and have seen other people confirm very similar) where I dropped my phone a very short distance to the floor then it wouldn't charge in the dock (but it knew it was in the dock as the dock app would launch).
Couple hours later, just by chance, I felt the tiniest "edge" on the back of my phone. Just below the battery cover and below the off colored "band" (where they engrave the phone if you choose to have that done) on the dark colored part that says "htc" on it. Tho it was not even really noticable, this piece (with the htc on it) had snapped out just a hair. I put the smallest amount of pressure on it and it literally clicked back into place. Couldn't see it move, only feel and hear it. After doing that my phone immediately charged again when putting it in dock and every time since.
I've also seen people say they put a sticker on the back of their phone on that same area and had exact same issue until they took it back off. Doesn't seem like it would be enough, but, at least the desktop dock, appears to be touchy enough where this tiny bit made all the difference.
I've come with similar issue after froyo update. in my case, whenever I synced the bluetooth to stream audio and then proceeded to dock it into the desktop dock it will not charge at "ac adapter"speed, I will only charge at"usb speed". So, depending on my usage while docked, it might or might not charge at all. The only solution I found afte much tinkering was to disconnect any bluetooth connection, dock the phone, then reconnect the bluetooth with whatever device. I hope this helps. And hope this issue doesn't get into the final froyo release.
So its been about a year and half since I received this phone for my birthday, and from this moment on, I am 90% sure that these companies design these phones to fall apart after a while so you buy a new one.
Please to not be intimidated by the length of the problems, I really doent want to waste a $600 nice phone. Please help.....
List of problems:
So on one random day, while I was using my phone with EnergyROM sense 6.1 (Not even 6.5 (Windows 6.5.5)) the phone stopped rotating when I flipped the keyboard, as in the screen will not rotate when I try to use the keyboard. The touch screen also becomes uncalibrated, and even when I recalibrate it, it still acts very funky (have to click lower than button or higher, depending on its mood). I did absolutely nothing different with my phone that day, but I did not call my phone dead right away, so I decided to update the ROM with the latest sense 6.5 ROM to see if the OS is corrupt or over-cached. This did not fix the problem.
Also, another very weird thing is the phone's screen will illuminate (I guess backlight), but no picture will show when turned on after sleep mode, and I have to click the top button again to sleep and awake it to get a picture. When flipped, the screen doesn't even fully illuminate, and literally dies down to a black screen (half of the pixels are bright, and then it just fails).
Any help would be very appreciated. What I am thinking of is wiping the phone 100%, and not even leaving a rom on it. I heard there is a command that deletes the junk off your phone from a previous ROM to your updated ROM is clutter free. Any other suggestions?
Edit: I hard reset my phone, and nothing is fixed; I still cannot flip screen into landscape mode.
The "command" you are talking about is called "task 29", look for it in the ROM section.
It sounds like hardware problems, i've had mine for about 1 year and a half as well and no problems besides a couple of scratches.
The flex cable connecting LCD and board might be out of order.... I had the same issue.

Yeah I heard about that problem. I will first task 29 it, but are there any guides to take apart and fix the flex cable, or even just unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Also, what did you do with your broken phone? Did you buy a new one or get it fixed?
Thanks for the feed back both of you.
my X1 also aged same as yours and it still runs flawlessly now. so it might depends on how you used and keep it
as for the "wiping off the phone" its called task 29, and is encouraged to do before you flash a new ROM, have you did it before flashing energyROM?

No, but I just did now, but it seems to be a hardware problem because nothing seems to be working properly still. This is some serious BS because I am very over protected with this phone, just to prevent stuff like this to happen. I have never dropped it ONCE, and it seemed to just wear out by itself. The lenses covering the camera is cracked also, and the screen is all screwed up, and I didnt do absolutely nothing abusive to it, I am 110% sure of this.
Any suggestions on how to fix hardware/ ribbon connected to the screen problem?
Order a new cable and replace it.
If you search on Youtube for the video on how to disassemble x1 there is a complete guide that shows you. Its pretty easy and all you need to do is, take the flex cable out and carefully plug it back in. Then carefully put your X1 back together and hopefully you issue will be fixed. If it still persist, then try and get the flex cable changed.
Whenever I leave the house, I unplug my Note to take it along but every time, before I stick it in my shirt pocket I have to turn it off first. That's because it on by itself just because I removed the charging cable. At first I thought this would just be a minor annoyance, but by the time I've needlessly turned off the thing a few hundred times the damn thing really starts to annoy me. And it's even worse when I try to charge it in my car because every time I turn the key one way or another I have to turn the phone off yet again. It's a bit more difficult because I have one of those silicon rubber protector things so it takes a little longer to find the off button. But I like the protection that this cover provides. I suppose I could just wait for the timeout (which I like at 5 minutes), but that would waste some battery power that I may need later. Plus it just annoys me if it is on when I'm not using it. (Actually it is the same problem when I plug it in to the charger as well!). So who decided on this ridiculous behavior? If it is an Android thing - shame on Google. If it is a Samsung thing - shame on them. (If so I might even switch phones ... although I haven't heard of another phone that can compete with the Note). Or is it just a quirk of my ROM? (I only used GB for an hour or so, and didn't have time to observe this behavior or not - then I flashed PA which I have been using ever since.) I love this ROM although I would switch in an instant if I could get rid of my only real annoyance with this phone.

First the silicon protector that you put in your phone because it cover also the power when put it in your pocket it keeps triggering it, its like a hair trigger.
Of course when you plug the charger it will trigger the screen to on.
Why dont you just adjust the screen time out to one minute.
I dont have this problem but anyway, a quick fix would be to use Tasker which lets you easily automate everything in your phone

That would result in about as many needless and annoying presses of the power button as it turned off when I didn't want it to.

That would be great if Tasker could turn it off again for me when it was turned on automatically. I took a quick look at the hardware events that tasker can act on such as:
Display: Off/On/Unlocked
File: File Closed/Deleted/Modified/Moved/Opened/Attributes Changed
Hardware: Camera Button, Search Button Long-Press, Card Mounted/Removed/Unmounted
Misc: Gesture, Shake
Phone: Missed Call, Phone Idle/Offhook/Ringing, Received Text, SMS Send Success/Failure
Power: Battery Changed/Full/Low/Overheating
System: Device Boot, Device Shutdown, Device Storage Low, Locale Changed, New/Removed/Updated Package, Wallpaper Changed
However being plugged in or out is not in this list. So how can it be done?
~Paul
I'd like to know too.
I can understand "screen on when charging cable plugged in". But its annoying as hell to have the screen on when charging cable is removed. Since 95% of the time it's going right into my pocket.

let's understand this better:
Your phone is off and turns on upon disconnected from the charger, or it is already on, but you don't want the screen to lighten up when you disconnect?
If it's the first case, that's weird...mine never auto initiates...If the second case, really don't know what you could do.
If it's the first scenario, maybe a factory reset? But beware of the brick bug and flash a safe kernel first.

Hey there Paul,
Man, that is one hell of an issue you have.
Anyway, I don't have much to advice you as I'm not using PA rom on my Note(for the moment ), but hey.. you said it for yourself that you were not able to test it thoroughly your Note before in GB right? only about an hour before flashing to PA?..hmm... logical advice I guess on my end would be to try to flash it back to GB again and observe it for 1 complete day to see if the same issue still occurs.
By the way.. you have a very sensitive Note there bud.
Again, going back to GB is the only way(if you we're to ask me), to confirm if the 'sensitivity' is still there or not anymore.
P.S. I might suggest to you to take out that screen rubber protector in the meantime also. Just use it 'naked' for a day on stock GB.
See how it goes after.
Cheers!

It's the 1st case. My phone is off and charging. I remove the charging cord and the screen just turns on despite the fact that I have not hit the power button - or any button for that matter.
I think it is more weird that you don't have this problem than the fact that I do. I've googled this and found many people complaining about it, but no explanations anywhere why it works this crazy way or how to fix it. And "Noodled24" who responded to my post above is yet one more person who is annoyed by this problem. I suspect there are thousands more (maybe even millions?), most of whom don't vocalize their annoyance.
BTW I'm being pretty glib with my use of the word "off". I'm really just referring to "screen off" - i.e. what happens when you briefly press the power button. I'm aware that this is not really off in the more conventional sense. If I power down using the power button long press, then no ... I don't have any problem with it turning on all by itself. So if this is part of the confusion, sorry about that. In fact, like most phone users, I almost never do a reboot (true power off) unless something goes wrong with the phone.
And recently I've found some people complaining about this problem regarding other Android devices, so I no longer think that this is a problem just with the Note, or just with the particular rom that I am using. Although I still don't know how wide spread the problem is.

I don't think my Note is "sensitive". I've very carefully removed the power cord many times (even without the rubber cover) to be sure that I am not touching the screen or any button whatsoever. And BTW the problem does not happen 90% or 99% or even 99.9% of the time. No - as far as I can tell the problem occurs 100% of the time!. So I wouldn't call my device "sensitive". I would just say that it has been improperly programmed to work in this bizarre fashion. Usually such programming mistakes can be fixed, which of course is why I have posted to this forum.
I don't think going back to GB will solve the problem. I think the same problem happened, although I can't be sure since as I mentioned before I didn't use GB for long before flashing to ICS (PA). However even if it did solve the problem, IMO going that far backwards wouldn't be a very attractive solution.
~Paul
So you don't have to go back to GB......screen turns on when unplugging my stock rooted GB. I think that is the normal behavior.
I agree, unplugging shouldn't turn on the screen, but Google does lots of things that don't make sense in real life usage.
