For warranty purposes it doesn't really matter as long as its stock from htc. The earlier version the better as you wouldn't want your h boot to be changed to 1.16 or later
thanks mate , i know i bother you asking much qustions , but i am still a nooby and wana learn ! the thing is i did not understand how to do it from that link , is it done from the recovery option ? or from SDK tools installed on PC ? if you may help me with simpler steps i would be extremly thankfull

You need to flash stock if you want stock recovery without warnings

Hmm..but from my known knowledge, the backed up flashable file at the state of s-off will hold a temp file and when u restore it back and revert back to s-on , the ruu will be stuck at security warning bootloader because of the restored flashable data...

hi , well , i restored the stock RUU by using the original exe from HTC , and by using the zip file method , in both cases , when i revert to S-ON using your method , recovery will no longer show a warning , but it will start recovering , and stuck at a black screen with red triangle ! can you help me fixing it ? i think its because of the stock rom got a problem in the files ??
UPDATE : when i get the red traiangle , i press vol up + power , then it display a command line says : " ERROR : can't open cache / recovery / commands "
remmember that this is the stock rom with S-ON .

well yeh buddy , i think you are right , but for me , i am trying to reach the completely new device state , ( to restore my phone like brand new ) !
so i have an idea about how to get this cache problem fixed :
- i have backup my stock system the first time i s-off the device , the backup includes every thing , along with the cache and data partions , so i am thinking about s-off again , wipe every thing clean , restore the back up ( witch will restore the original data + cache portions ) , then wipe the system partion only ! and flash the stock rom again ! hope this fix the issue !

Hi all,
I am newbie in this foruma nd new in Android. I am going to get the Incredible S later this week. I would like to try to root the Incredible S. I read some of the treads, but I am a bit confuse here, hope someone can help me out. Here are my questions.
1) Can I root my phone with Unrevoked3 ? If so can I use the S-On tools to put it back to s-on for warranty ?
2) Before I do the root, I would like to backup my Rom. All I need to do is go to Hboot and choose backup. It will save my rom image right? If any bad thing happen, I can S-On than put it back my rom and everything will back to the factory setting ?
3)How would I know if my phone been rooted? I saw a thread said if there is an Icon (superuser) in the menu it means I am rooted?
I know these are stupid questions, hope someone can help me out in here.
Thanks in advance

1. No, Unrevoked3 does not work on the Incredible S. You need to use AlphaRev/Unrevoked Revolutionary (http://revolutionary.io/)
2. You need to have a custom recovery in place such as ClockworkMod to backup image of your ROM. Revolutionary has an option to install ClockworkMod during it's procedure. In order to restore the phone to factory settings, you need to make sure you have a RUU (Rom Update Utility) that matches your phone's version.
3. After you install ClockworkMod, you will need to manually root and add superuser to your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
Thank you very much for the reply. I will definately giong to give it a try. Another question here, after I applied Revolutionary and the phone will become S-off. And I want to put back the factory image back, will the phone switch back to S-ON ?? From other threads, I think it will void the warranty if the phone is S-ON
Thank you very much
You can put your phone back to S-ON yes. Make sure you haven't updated your phone to 2.30.405.1 or you can't root or S-OFF your device.
Great thanks. So here is my steps for turn the IncS to S-Off and backup right ?
First I will have to use Revolutionary to turn the S-OFF
than I will use ClockworkMOd to backup my factory ROM (just in case i need to turn it back to S-ON and factory setting for warranty)
Once I am S-OFF i will be able to use one of the image for Root
Thank you very much for all the helps guys. I will give it a try and see how it goes.

You have to flash RUU according to your IS version. It does full restore your device to factory state. So yes it includes S-on and Htc official Rom so it would be just like when it came out of the box.
Edit: What's your software number? You may check at Settings / About phone. You need that to flash properly RUU to your device.

Hi thiagofbrito, thanks for the reply. Sorry I don't have my INcS yet, still waiting for it, but I will check the software #.
By the way , if I used clockworkmod. I can backup my ROM right? So if anything happen can I use that backup and rest it as Factory Setting with S-ON ?
Don't really undersatnd what is the RUU use for?
Thanks

Not exactly. ClockworkMod backup and restore only saves and restores the whole ROM image, but not the SecurityFlag setting (S-OFF/S-ON), so restoring a CWM backup will not return you to S-ON state.
This is where the RUU comes into play. As long as you have the RUU for your particular phone and carrier, that is what you would use to return the phone to a full Factory Setting complete with S-ON. In the Development section there is a thread that has alot of the shipped RUUs for the IncS.
Sorry to tag onto this thread but 1 more question.....if the IS is already set up and now would like to get it rooted, following the procedure won't reset the device and clearing out the data right? I know using Unrevoked won't clear the data but not sure about this one. Kindly confirm

No, the S-OFF and rooting process will not wipe out your existing apps or data.

No you haven't missed anything. The procedure instructions were for gaining S-Off using Revolutionary which installs a modified hboot that contains additional fast boot commands. So you must have a XTC clipped S-Off, so you simply need to install ClockworkMod by copying a PG32IMG.zip file to your SD card and letting the boot loader install it.
Shouldn't this be more like..
1. Download CMW's zip file (Available in this thread here)
2. Make sure the file is named "PG32IMG.zip" without quotes.
3. Put file in your SD card
4. Switch off phone
5. Pull out the battery and wait 5 seconds. Put the battery back in again. (This step is needed in case fast boot is enabled..)
6. Press vol down+power. HBoot (white screen with 3 android logos at the bottom) should load.
7. Wait a while.. it should pick up on your PG32IMG.zip automatically and install your custom recovery
8. Reboot into your OS and remove the zip
9. Go back into HBoot and then recovery. Use as you please (I suggest you take a backup first then proceed to flashing or doing anything else you might fancy )
Thanks for the reply. My HTC is not XTC cliped. I bought this at a retail store. When I checked the HBOOT is already S-OFF. So as you said, all I need to do is download the ClockMod and rename is as the zip file
Thanks
Hi tpbklake ,
Ok I tried to the instruction you provide earlier. I got the zip file, renamed and placed it on the SD card. HBOOT than I can see the HTC is saying Parsing the zip file, than i turn off the device and remove the Zip file from the SD card. And go back to HBOOT again choose recovery , and it show the red exclaimation mark . .. I don't know what happen in here, can someoen please help ?
Thanks

Yes. The is the reason that having S-OFF is a big deal. When you are S-OFF, you simply need to flash a new ROM in CWM/4EXT and then you are ready to go.

Seems like your phone is rooted do you don't receive any official updates. You can boot in boatloader and see if your phone is unlocked, shutdown your phone and start your phone by holding power and volume down button at the same time. See what it says there, probably "unlocked" and s-on or s-off. After that chose recovery and see which recovery you have.
Go to settings - About Phone - Software Info and post what it says.
The device you bought was not new. It was unlocked and had or has a custom recovery installed.

It looks like it is a development model (not DEV edition), which should not be sold anyways.
You can root and flash custom ROM, but I highly doubt that you will receive updates for a development model.

Well since your bootloader is already unlocked and you got the custom recovery, you can always flash the latest custom rom that has Android 4.2 or 4.3. Otherwise you can bring the phone back to stock if possible. They're how to guides on how to do that on XDA.

Well your bootloader is still 1.44, so you still have the option to get S-Off, which would allow you to remove TAMPERED, and also allow you to return completely back to stock using a RUU.
How familiar are you with all this? I would recommend reading some of the guides, but if you do want to get back completely to stock you'll probably need to S-Off.
Can you post "fastboot getvar all" (and remove your IMEI and serial number before posting).
No updates

Factory reset will just reset your current Rom. So you have two options, 1 flash an other rom, which is already 4.3 and learn what a custom Rom can do for you, welcome to xda or 2, you can revert to stock version by flashing the right RUU for your version, but you need s-off to do this. You should do this now your bootloader is still 1.44. Anyway whatever you gonna do, you will have some homework to do!

First you need to install the HTC drivers (http://d-h.st/4LL), and adb/fastboot sdk (http://d-h.st/ja1) credits to @vomer; please read through the first part of his guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
Once you've installed HTC drivers, and unzipped adb sdk to C:\ADB, reboot your phone into bootloader -> FASTBOOT, connect your phone to the PC, FASTBOOT will change to say FASTBOOT USB.
On your PC: "CD C:\ADB" then type "fastboot getvar all" and post results back (remember to remove IMEI and serial number)

OK, that tells us you have a Vodaphone UK version, not Asia, not a problem.
Since you're still on 1.44 hboot, I would recommend to get S-Off, as you will not be able to do that later. Continue followoing vomer's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506 and the original revone thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
Do the S-Off, no need to SuperCID at this time.
Why S-Off you ask, it would allow you to run any RUU (upgrade & downgrade) for any country and/or carrier.
Regarding SIM Lock, is your phone tied to any specific carrier at the moment? I assume not, since I dont think you're on Vodaphone UK, so the phone is/should arleady by SIM-unlocked.
Continue and report back, so we proceed with the next steps.

When youunlocked your bootloader you lost some apps like flashlight and your system will not upgrade without them. Also if you have custom recovery you won't be able to upgrade, if you're S-on you need to relock your bootloader or you won't beable to upgrade.
All of theese things were mentioned about ten million times in various threads, you just had to use search button

install custom recovery for instance then root your phone then you have to collect data/preload folder from any other source then put them to data folder then flash stock recovery again then try for update sense 6
For preload you can find stock Rom reset for same software version

Thanks for the replay .
Erase cache doesn't make any difference .
If you have more tips please let me know .
Hakim
Flash the correct TWRP 2.6.3.3 for your device. Isn't 802d an odd one?
And please, if you're going to provide information, don't make it up. The CID you provided doesn't exist.

Step 1: check for guides, infos, how-to, etc. for your model
there are a few in the general section, for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495697
Step 2: if you can't find it on xda, check other forums, many of us are not using Dual-SIM phones
Step 3: flash things only confirmed to be working for your device
Step 4: if you're going to send someone a Private Message, the least you could to is be courteous

I don't know what you have been flashing, or anything about the Dual-SIM phones. the only thing I can say, is that whatever you try to flash (including a custom recovery, it should be for your phone)
