[Q] Removed browser.apk - no internet acces anymore - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Yesterday i had removed my original browser.apk on the samsung galaxy note. I did this because the only browser i wanted to use was dolphin.
After i had removed the original browser.apk and restarted the phone i cannot acces the internet anymore from any browser. Dolphin cannot load pages, i also tried to see what other browsers did, i installed firfox and opera and they both cannot acces the internet. I get a screen which looks like there is no internet connection, this occurs when using 3G and Wifi connection there is no difference. However with other apps like facebook and market i can still acces the internet so the connection is not the problem.
When i reinstall the original browser.apk will this fix the problem? If so can anyone please provide me with this apk file.....

Woah - that probably wasn't a good thing to do . Here's the standard browser apk pulled from /system/app. Good luck!

Classic newbie mistake. DO NOT REMOVE SYSTEM APPS. Either rename them or move then to a different location. The browser is an integrated part of the O/S, you need it on the device for any internet enabled application.

Thanks to both of you for this browser.apk file!
I've copied it to my phone in the system/app directory. Than i installed it, however at the end of the installation the wizard said 'application not installed' the only thing that i could do was press 'done'
It tells me that the application is not installed but i can see it in my list of apps now. But i can still not connect to web pages. When i start the browser it goes fine but when the browser connects to a web page it still tells me that there is no connection.
to be clear I have not removed the odex file. Has anyone got an idea what i'm missing??
Please forget about this - my mistake
I had to allow the browser to connect again to the internet in the droidwall settings.
Thanks for the browser file!

You don't install APKs that you push/copy to /system/app - the very act of putting them there means they are installed.
If you really don't want to use the stock browser, try freezing it and see if that has any effect on internet access from other browsers.
Regards,
Dave

I'm not sure sbout all that above. The reason is that I always remove the browser.apk and I'm yet to see any negative impact. I've been doing that on my old desire and now on note and suffered no problems whatsoever. I substitute Xscope and recently Boat Browser Mini and it's all good.

push the apk to system/app folder in your phone's root folder using root explorer. Then restart your phone and clear the data if any in settings/manage application. This will solve your problem.

JF 1.5 Browser Problem ! please help

Guys, I have a bit of a strange problem.. i am using JF1.5 but my browser is not working... by that i mean it opens without a problem and shows the homepage ( www.google.com ) in a second but when i open anyother address it just says " web page not available- check your internet connection " but the strange thing is that when i open a link there is no network activity as if the browser aint even trying to connect to the network ....
Now i have installed opera mini and thats working just fine .... i.e opens every page quickly .... but opera is very hard and i dont like it at all .... and i want to use the built in browser...
Any Idea whats the problem ?
Thanks
the google home page you see is probably a cached version, it didn't actually download that page from the internet.
from your description, it seems to be a network state problem. the android system has its own way for detecting internet connections, it may report you're offline even if you're not. but the only two apps I know that uses this is browser and downloader. you have to check if your apn settings are complete. make sure you have the "proxy" field set.
I tried to mess with the apn settings but to no use .... Its really freaky ... every other browser works just fine .... and so does the market and google talk but the built in browser behaves as if there is no data connection .... is there a way i can uninstall it and reinstall it from somewhere somehow ?
Regards
I'm having the same exact problem. I upgraded my G1 and it worked fine but when I upgraded my girlfriends G1, the default browser doesn't work.
I will open up the browser and the page will show and then it just closes out and goes back to the desktop. I've tried to flash it again and there is no change.
Ok.
So I went into the application manager and cleared out everything and it still doesn't work.
Not sure what could be causing this because my phone flashed fine.

Nexus one "web page not abailable" error

Please someone help me!!!
The default Browser application on my Nexus one just keeps coming up with the standard "Web page not available" page when I try to connect to any website.
Therefor I generally use Opera Mini to access the web and this works perfectly, it was only happen when I used the Dolphin Browser or Default browser and realised that both had the same issue.
All other applications are fine and can connect to the internet perfectly well.(Market,Gmail,Twitter,Youtube...) As I said above the Opera Mini browser works is the only browser that work for browsing internet
So it seems like something is amiss with my settings / files / Radios / Kernals ect..
And also im using Froyo from hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686593
Any ideas to get rid of this??????
I'm experiencing the same problem. Did you find a fix for it?
Same issue for me and its really pissing me off because Opera sucks as a browser!

[Q] Youtube sign in/connection problem

Hey,
after rooting my nook color (1.1.0; auto nook 3.0) i'm expieriencing some nasty issues: every attemp to sign in (youtube, kindle, market...) fails. the error message is always similar: no internet connection. but on the other hand my internet connection via wifi (WPA/WPA2) is working without problems. i tried to replace the pre-installed youtube app via adb, but uninstall seems to be withou success...
i hope you can help me to find a workaround.
thank you for your help!
Jan
I have a similar problem. 1.0.1 rooted. Every time i sign in on youtube the next time i try to open the youtube app it just doesn't load. I have to uninstall it and push it through adb in order to work. So is there any way to sign in without it crashing afterwards? Thanks
I have the same problem. Starting today I cannot even launch the youtube app. It crashes immediately. So I removed it and went to the market to find a fresh install, but I can't find it. Its probably only available as part of Android OS. What is a good way to bring it back?
Sent from Nooted Nook using XDA app
hmmm...I need the youtube app as workaround to get access to google market
uninstall via adb was not successfull. but it seems as my nc has a general problem with signing in...kindle app is unable to connect to the internet (wifi: full connectivity, internet active), facebook via stock browser is crashing as soon as I push the sign in button.
There may be two problems: a wifi NC problem and the youtube app problem. I have an intermittent wifi that I fixed by going to 802.11g. See my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11458921&postcount=1
The youtube problem has been documented in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883989&highlight=youtube
Retrieve Youtube by re-rooting (auto nooter)

Have you used auto nooter to root? If yes, and you've removed Youtube from the NC, i just put the auto nooter file back on the SD card and re root following the usual instructions. I had removed it, hoping to just install it again, but like you say, market doesn't show it. I re-rooted my NC and Youtube was back. *Just remember as the below poster shows by linking the other thread, do not sign-in, just leave it normal, i and others had issue when you log in.

[Q] Files downloading as .txt

When I try to download .apk or .zip files (possibly other types of files too, just haven't tried other types) from the phone browser they will save as .txt files instead. I noticed this while downloading the decrapped 1.1 and clockwork recovery files. Has anyone else had any problems with downloads on the Revo? Maybe it's just files that are downloaded from fileshare, megaupload, ect.?
I tried the fixes for other phones (i.e. using download crutch), but those seem to only work when the phone won't allow a dl at all. Doesn't help when files download as .txt (just changing the extension wouldn't work either, 1.2mb files would download as 8kb).
I know using Dolphin for decrap using goofiles , I think that is what it is called, I had to change the user agent to Android.
I had that problem with the stock browser as well. Even with dolphin. Ultimately I like dolphin for browsing, but if I need to d/l a file, I fire up the link in opera mobile and get it.

Is goofiles an add on for the Dolphin browser or can you use it with any browser? I've tried the dolphin browser on two seperate occasions, and could never bring myself to stick with it. I felt like it was too cumbersome. I wish I could get the droid stock browser back, it was clean and simple.
I also would prefer not to deal with the hassle of using two different browsers if at all possible. If there's no known fix for the stock lg browser, anyone know if you can port the stock from the droid 1? I saw a couple sites with the apk, but not sure if it would be compatible. I'd like to get one, but I'm at work with no way to dl one to try it out.

Eh, I have uninstalled (or hidden, don't really know) quite some apps using this method:
Forumpost on XDA about unbloating without root
(XDA) Uninstall bloat without root
However, I encounter a small issue now. I also uninstalled this Browser from Vivo. Mainly because of the overkill of chinese in it, as well as that I (obviously) didn't use it, and I couldn't really avoid it. (switching the default browser to Chrome seemed to work, but whenever you leave that setting-screen and come back to it, this Vivo Browser is back in place. Uninstalling using the above helped, but now I encounter another issue. This Browser also was malfunctioning with certain radiobuttons on websites, which also made me not use it for login on certain public wifi's where I am regularly. However, without the Browser, I can't seem to let Chrome open in order to guide me to the Wifi login screen at all. Sometimes, on some wifi's, the redirect works (so I just open google.com in Chrome, and I get redirected to the login page straight away), but on some wifi's that is not happening. When in the Wifi-setting-screen I tap on "Tap here to authenticate", nothing happens....Anyone an idea?

You should be able to do the same with the browser as you did with the launcher, set the browser as default.

True, I found the setting. However, whenever I leave that settings window (after setting the default browser to Chrome), and come back to it later, I see that it has swapped back to the Vivo browser. And for stuff like publicwifilogin I still got this vivo browser (and that caused some issues since it has issues with certain radiobuttons)...
