looks good,
big update?
Good stuff. Hope to hear from them!
Doesn't it figure the day after i flash the brazil 2.3.5 FW this happens
Danifunker aren't you on the vivo FW
Beamed by invisible waves from my rooted xt860
Great news. Does make me wonder why they are so slow with it. Maybe they are going straight to ISC???
I'll do a full restore back to the Bell firmware, and let them know how it compares to the vivo firmware hehe

Considering their history I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.
Let's be happy if they finally manage to give us an update that adresses the known issues (battery/camera/keyboard). I'm only gonna believe it when I see it and am actually able to use it.

Just for understanding:
How will you be able to do that?
I thought someone tried this already on a different thread, the only ccaveat is that the radio code won't get reverted...
1) boot into CWR
2) Wipe/format system and data partition
3) perform full restore
If all that fails, in the worst case I'll just reflash bacck to the vivo (or maybe retail) SBF.

I'd argue that the update would merely be to 2.3.x where x > 4. Maybe the Brazil sbf already has the fixes and only thing they're testing is the bell carrier customizations.

I think you're right, but I'd rather be on the Bell one, I really like the background (it is embedded with the framework.apk and I can't really line it up the same way) as long as it works as good as the Brazil firmware... don't forget there is also some localization things as well that "would be nice" every so often I run into some portugeese on my device now.

I think he was arguing for the update being 2.3.x as opposed to 4.0 like another poster suggested. Highly unlikely IMO, but I would, of course, love to be proven wrong.

I know, I totally agree with him. I'd be suprised if it even went up to 2.3.5, I would guess they are concentrating more on the Blur stuff.
They are limiting the Beta to 100 testers, in reality, only one of us needs to get on that list and share the .sbf with the whole community =D

I don't think they are going to be sending out the SBF, probably just an EXE file, but we can all hope! I think we are all waiting for a reply back from them, but yes I agree with you fully!
Realistically, how many people do you think sign up for Motorola's betas? And who would you think sign up for them?
Given that the original topic on the Motorola forums has so few views, the chances of one or more XDA users getting into the beta is fairly high I reckon.

This is exactly how the first Verizon update was leaked, via a beta tester for their new firmware. When this beta get's leaked we'll all be able to flash back to bell, sbf or exe it, format wont matter. (It's only up to 120 views now)

Probably the bell, just given the older build.
See, this is what I don't understand. They branch their regional builds of their f/w... and then when they need to update the phones... that's many separate codebases that need to be updated. X.x

They Defy has a mod (specifically a boot menu) that has a feature called '2nd Init' (Read up here) it basically bypasses the first init process and enables you to load up anything you want (better quick explanation?)
This mod that the Defy has has enabled it to have some pretty awesome stuff running on it (CM7, with Gingerbread 2.3.3 obviously). It's strange I have never seen this mentioned on this forum before except for the Defy and I want more people to be aware this has already taken place on the Defy, another locked bootloader phone. Anyways, if this gets ported then we could possibly do whatever Quarx, over on the Defy forum, did and port CM7 to the Atrix. There was some similar talk started when I made a new thread "CM7 for Defy" on the general forum, but I wanted to make sure that a decent amount of developers got to see this information, so I made a new post here.
Would like to see if this would work on the Atrix

Valid question. I don't believe it's 2nd init. Or at least not like the 2nd init on the Defy.
BTW guys, I tried the Defy 2nd init bootmenu (decided to use the apk that installs it all automatically) aaanndd..it bricked my phone. An sbf flash fixed it though.
So anyways, it is now known for sure that this needs to be ported in order to work. Someone PLEASE look into this. I am almost positive that this IS the method that will be used to install custom ROMs on the Atrix in the future. The actual bootloader has no chance of being cracked IMO. But we can get almost the same results with this.

not nearly the same result i was on the sony x10 before i got the atrix and this is exactly how it was when the bootloader was locked we could flash custom roms but all it did was add new simple features. fps caps overclock and many other goodies are kernal related.
BUT i guess having this would be better than nothing at all just dont get overexcited then be dissappointed. also i believe its harder to develop like this than with an open bootloader.

I'm fairly certain it'll work, actually, although it might require some tweaking. But, at the same time, I'm fairly certain it'll break webtop. To me, webtop >>> CM. I'm sure others feel differently. But you'll need one of those other people to work on this, because otherwise, 2nd Init ends up pretty low on my priority list.

I cannot stress enough that THIS IS FOR BIONIC ONLY. You should not attempt this for use with other devices such as the Droid 3 except at your own risk. The D3 specifically has differences that will cause your internal storage to wipe if you attempt to use this bootstrap on it.

Yeah, its a use at your own risk kind of thing, obviously.
Maybe someone can get CVPCS to take a look at the D3, the work is mostly done with the bionic.

BTW guys, there is work being done with the D3 don't worry. We already have a semi working CWM based recovery in the beta stage atm. there are a few dedicated devs working on the D3.
Also keep in mind its only going faster for the bionic devs because our devs have been working so hard on things like 2init and root, granted it does seem we were skipped over by the majority of devs.

Verizon obviously doesn't give a **** about the bootloader, since it's going to be the first carrier to release the Galaxy Nexus. And now that Google owns motorola I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but it doesn't really matter.
I am very excited for CM7 (or CM9 for that matter)! I have only had the Droid Pro and now the Droid 3 so I have never been able to really take advantage of it.
I'm seeing a lot of devices getting ics sdk ports or atleast starting to(in pre alpha stage) I was wondering if anyone wanted to attempt that on our d3s because it doesn't look like we're getting cm9 soon because were not even officially supported for cm7.

I hope no one is wasting time working on a port from a Software Development Kit (SDK) emulator "ROM" that is incomplete and lacking. SDK's are for app developers to test, not for ROMs to be be made.
Once the source hits....you'll have a better chance of getting ICS, AND a much better and complete ROM.

Just to be clear, I'm not working on an ICS port from the SDK. Sorry :/
While I applaud jellydroid13's enthusiasm, there is still alot of work to be done getting the D3 to be more AOSP friendly. This includes working on getting the audio drivers working correctly, BT updated, overlays which don't have PBUNDERUN events every 30 seconds, camera routines to iron out, etc.
Fixing these issues in Gingerbread where our kernel matches up with the source, gives us a better chance at then migrating working source to a true ICS port later.
There is also a fairly sizable kernel hurdle to jump as well.
Just my 2-cents.
I just read on drippler that the Bionic wasnt getting ICS.Is it true?
I doubt that's true. They wouldn't have gone through all the work of making some pretty good ics test builds that work better than the gingerbread builds just to scrap them.

I've talked to Motorola and Verizon recently, while they pretty much talked around the fact that a published deadline had been missed, they both assured me the update is still in progress and would be out in this quarter (just not 'early' this quarter as that's past). Granted neither are to be trusted with any of this, but I'm pretty sure we will see it officially, eventually.
Get a leak if your desperate, wait for the official if your patient. Sad thing is I'll likely be in Canada using a Galaxy S3 by the time Motorola and Verizon get their s--t together. I'll get to use my Bionic on ICS during my visits over the border.

This, along with "ICS will be here next week" comes out 2 or 3 times a month.
Are you sure you weren't just skimming that article? It didn't say that ICS wasn't coming. It just said that carriers are notorious for missing deadlines and not giving a crap. It also said that leaks don't necessarily mean an update is imminent. Yada, yada, yada. Anyone, like me, that's been waiting for the official rollout figured that out awhile ago. Hopefully the official version will be pretty damn flawless.
