AT&T LTE is now working in Los Angeles - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I just noticed LTE working in Los Angeles. After I restarted my phone, and literally did a double-take when I saw my phone was on LTE. Enjoy!

Post speet test results

I was just about to post the same for Orange County. Just came on hours ago. Speed test yielded 20,000 for down but was having trouble finishing the up test.

Ahh, gotta love how AT&T is spreading LTE faster then they said they would... their determined.
Also, has anyone noticed lag on the Vivid? I've had lag while just switching home screens, and I was playing with an Evo 3D at best buy today, had no lag switching home screens, opens apps, even scrolling through the app drawer.... Maybe I should do a factory reset.

I do like the early LTE deployment here, really didn't think SoCal would be getting LTE until middle of next year.
Regarding the lag, not really experiencing any at all. Like most here, I'm actually surprised how smooth the Vivid is right out of the box. You probably need to do a factory reset to bring the speed back.

Even at the time of all the hype about Galaxy Nexus (Droid Prime), AT&T LTE seemed like a distant future. I love it how AT&T got 2 devices out, and rolled out LTE, before the Galaxy Nexus became available. It still isn't shipping!

I'm pulling around 18mbps in orange county..... But its intermittent...
Clearly just a test, but cool to see.

Screen capped after LTE went off... So lost icon.
It's been coming and going for about an hour.

I would agree, I thought LTE would pull around 30 to 40ish. But 20 is close to what I'm getting with my cable, but the upload does beat the 2 that I'm getting from home.

Keep in mind it is just a test run, speeds may vary with full launch and network saturation etc.

Hmm... it could be that you guys don't officially have LTE yet.
I had one bar of LTE when I did this speedtest
Amazing speeds.
And I hate that I probably have to do a factory reset... but if I want that speed back, I'll do it.

Wait, what?
You expected LTE to perform better than your home internet?! Did I miss something here?
I'd be surprised if it even comes remotely close, judging how crappy mobile data speeds have been ever since I've been using it.

Ha, as funny as it sounds, yes we are expecting it to be faster. From some of the tests I've seen with the LTE, it is able to do upwards of 45 (but that's with no load) I'm getting 25 down and 2 up from my cable at home, and so far in my area the best I've seen is 20 down and 5 up.

My home internet is 2.5mbps (AT&T DSL). So my LTE device now is 4x faster when it does a meager 10mbps in Los Angeles.

Considering the post just above yours show's precisely that...
AND the fact that I routinely get 7-8mbps with peaks of 10-11mbps on hspa+
Yes, yes I did expect LTE to be more than twice as fast as hspa.
And yes I did expect the speeds I have seen others get.

It's still on.
I expected it to be gone when I woke up this morning... But I'm still rockin the LTE badge..

Droid 4...

I know people have made threads about the droid 4 before but this is me pondering with myself when im bored. Do u guys realize that pretty much the only major significant differences between the d3 and d4 is the fact that the d4 has about 500 more mb ram than d3 and it runs at 1.2 GHz and ours run at 1.0... welll i was thinking... we have overclock now so there goes that difference. Plus as overclock progresses and as time goes by i feel like we could hit as high as 1.5 safely. So pretty much the only major difference is the ram butt whooocaress? Like not to brag about our phones but Once were unlocked (which i feel like wont be much longer) our phone literally will be superior to any other android phone. What do you guys have to say (;
P.s. i could be missing specs but i feel like those 2 are the major ones.

You forgot the LTE radio.
You also get ICS and Webtop support iirc
4g lte is major...
Will the Droid 4 be a Global phone again?
Yeahhh butt like i honestly feel like 3g is better than 4g i really do. I dont care for 4g at all.

i dont understand that. 4g is alot faster than 3g. only problem is battery life, and that is only if you dont know how to manage battery life ;]
What about the screen?
Another problem is that D4's LTE is only good for Verizon.
DYP, screen seems to be the same as D3's. Screenshots clearly showed pentile matrix and specs say TFT - so it must be the same crappy screen as D3.

Yeah i agree its faster but it pretty much is an upgraded 3g like it not always works. It sometimes drops. Data bills increase. Idk man i just dont really care for it. And yeah battery life decreases tremendously but once people are able to flash stuff for it it will improve. I feel like 4g has alot of improvement to do not gonna lie
Sent from my droid 3 using Tapatalk
cant lie about lots of that. 4g is a great technology, its the carriers that arent using it to its full potential. If you look at the actual 4g capable speeds and the speeds the carriers are letting us have, you will be even more disappointed lol.
The battery sucking isses will hopefully be obsolete once carriers get more heavily engaged in research using fuel cells.
Everyone says the Droid 4 is what the Droid 3 should have been.
For my part, yeah, it kind of gets on my nerves, but not too much. 1G of RAM would be nice, but I rarely run out with 512MB. I don't stream multimedia, so 3g is fast enough for me.
And the price was nice, $150 with a data plan. So I have no complaints.
As things stand now, the Droid 4 will probably be my next phone in a year or or so.

What bout the fact that you can be on the phone and go online at the same time. not sure if that is true but if thats the case then that will come in very helpful to me for work.
I didn't know about that. Yeah, that's pretty sexy. It's annoying when I get/make a lot of calls and my IRC session constantly drops.

Battery life is not the only problem. I bought a Bionic in early October but had regular issues with random data drops - so that I had no LTE, 3G or 1X - in area where I know there is strong and solid Verizon 3G. There was also a nationwide, 24 hour data outage when I was ten days in. I exchanged the Bionic for the D3 because it was the best 3G phone on Verizon.
Since then there have been two more nationwide LTE outages (which also takes out 3G for the LTE phone, but not for 3G phones), and the Bionic forums are filled with people still complaining about random data drops. (Apparently this is fixed with an LTE SIM swap, but who has time to keep going in to Verizon for a new SIM?) Meanwhile, my D3 has been a solid, solid, solid data device every since I got it in mid-October.
LTE is still not mature and I think I'll be happier locked in to a solid 3G phone like the D3 rather than an immature LTE phone (because surely the hardware and network will get better in the next year or so) for the next 20 or so months. I would be happier if the D3 had been 1 GB RAM, but I don't feel it's that big a deal. I can tell you that it's frustrating when you need data access somewhere and find that the phone isn't getting data where you know that it should be.
If you turn off LTE and force CDMA on your 4g phone, you can can be locked into 3G connectivity. That said, I like having a removal battery. I like that I have the choice to buy the extended. I think Droid 4 will be a bust tbqh. More memory would be nice but with Dpwhitty11's ROM, I don't have a need for it.
I don't honestly care. Hash has the ICS ROM coming along well and when it has the camera to me it will be perfectly stable for an Alpha. I am glad that it works and yeah 4G would be nice but I don't care honestly.

I do believe that someone is working on a ics rom for the RAZR. so assuming that the 2 phones will be comparable it should be relatively easy for someone to port it over to the droid 4 "ASSUMING" they are going to be similar.
Razr will get official ICS support, not sure why anyone would work on it on their own. It would merely be a waste of their time.

3G connectivity is still affected by LTE outages on LTE phones. If LTE is down (as I believe it was again toady), 3G almost always is as well, though it is not for 3G-only phones. I also had as many random data drops with CDMA only mode as I did with LTE/CDMA on the Bionic.

My Second Full Day with the N4

I am posting a follow up thread on my review of my new Nexus 4 16 after two full days of what I would consider normal use. I used the same routine I would be using with my trusty GNEX and spared the phone no mercy.
Call quality and reception has been excellent on the T-Mobile US network and some of my clients have actually asked me if I changed phones because I sound better on the new N4, a positive feedback.
Battery life is actually a little better then the GNEX and I have always say if you are so worried about the battery life, Buy a GOOD car charger and it solves that issue.
I have been impressed with the speed and smoothness of this stock 4.2 JB ROM, the screen swipe is smooth with no lag and the apps launch quickly. The screen sharpness is top notch and in my opinion better then my GNEX.
The network connection has been perfect with no dropped calls and I have always had a solid 3G or H icon in the status bar, it would be nice to have a battery percentage indicator in the status bar though.
I used the Google voice function when texting and sending emails and I was impressed how fast the response time was, very little lag time when I was talking and the text was been generated on the screen.
So far this phone has been everything I expected it to be, yes 4G would be nice but for what I use the device for, 3G & HSPA is fine.I did not buy it to watch movies or play games. I use it as a phone and PDA like it was meant to be used.
My only complaint is a personal preference, but why is the hour text font on the lockscreen digital clock so much bigger then the minutes, drives me nuts looking at it. Maybe there is a way to change it and I just haven't found it yet.
Just my feedback and what is now my daily driver. I can't wait until the developers start build customs ROM's for it. Thanks Google for a great device that is priced just right for the person looking for a reliable wireless device. ME.

The clock is just like that for effect. I actually like it, but I know many people won't. Someone on Reddit modified it to remove the bold. Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.alamoapps.unboldedclockwidget
Remove the stock clock widget and add the new one

Yeah, neither LTE or HSPA+ is 4G, I believe the real 4G is LTE-A.
If you got it from T-mous, can you try to see if tethering works? Does it have built in android tethering with usb and wifi option? Thanks
This screen in my opinion is the best I seen and I had just about every phone the blacks are black and the whites are super bright this phone is definitely fast everything opens instantly. current hspa+ is not 4g
mimo multicarrier dc hspa+ is however..since it achieves 168mbps which is way beyond 4g standards
regardless..most lte used only get around 30mbps(that ive seen) so its not that far of a stretch..
So 4g is what? Speed only? I thought it was basically the generation after 4g...I don't think any 3g comes close to hspa+..my brothers often gets over 40mbps down..

True 4g is 100mbps it is all a gimmick. But let me tell you 40down is fast and another thing to remember is you won't feel a different from 7down to 20 it's all fast really. It is just bull how the company's say it is 4g it's really 3.5 g if that makes sense lol
4G is 4th Generation and unless I am mistaken Wimax is the only true 4th generation because LTE, HSPA+ came after and LTE-A is still comming. There is so little difference in the different flavors that they have bunched all the brothers together in marketing as 4G.
You are just playing with words, true 4g etc..if it is fast, has great coverage and does not drain the battery like a hooker on Broad st then it is all good to me..screw lte..

Major Office Phone-Off

LOL we just had a speedtest in our office, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, Galaxy S3, and Nexus S against my Nexus 4. All connected to the same wifi network. My speeds were ahead of all other devices by over 2MB/s. Then we tested browser load and the N4 loaded endgaget before the iPhone 5 even connected to the site. Lmao..everyone was in shock and disbelief. Booyakasha
nice .....
Same here. Even connecting to my HSPA+ straight talk network is faster than most. I did a speed test against a Droid RAZR on VZW's LTE network (with full signal) where we both downloaded the facebook app at the same time, and mine had it downloaded and installed before the razr even finished downloading the first megabyte. > Very, very impressed with this phone. My Nokia E7 on the same network is not even remotely capable of the same speeds.
Are you sure the iPhones were being held correctly? I jest.

Haha I figured that, couldn't resist.
My hspa speed varies wildly depending on where I am in NYC, but the phone is stellar and anything over 1-2 Mbit is usually plenty for what I'm doing. It's rare I get the annoying streaming video pause that's about it.
I do notice a huge improvement in speed pulling music out of my collection off my nas at home. WiFi is at least 3 times faster than my GNex, at home for me anyway.

Ex-EVO LTE Owners...

I'm basically a phone addict. I've had the PPC-6700, Mogul, Vogue, TP, TP2, EVO, and now EVO LTE. The EVO was the only phone that I've kept for the life of my two year contract. I'm one year into my EVO LTE and there's nothing really wrong with it other than the fact that I'm bored.
Was the upgrade worth it to you guys or now that the novelty has worn off? Let me know!
Worth it, totally. The qualcomm s600 has some balls and sense 5 is the fastest version ever
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 2
Honesty, if I didn't have an upgrade, I could have waited. I was on the evo 4g lte as well. I have 4 phone lines on my plan, so I get to upgrade every year. I was running meanbean from the start then went to sense 5. I'm sure it's even better now.
I think the biggest difference is the sound from the front facing speakers.
It is much faster, but I'm not a gamer, do that's pretty much a wash.
It is beautiful and build quality is awesome. I use cases on my phones, so that's a wash as well.
The camera is way better on the ONE as well.
If you're really deadset on upgrading, I'm sure the evo is still worth something. I got $100 for the old og evo.
Just my $.02 of course.

completely worth it for me, i got so sick of the lte reception issues with the lte. battery life is amazing and the speakers are great for watching movies or streaming music at work.
Well, I had the Evo LTe and my wife still has it.
Honestly, I don't see the rush to update. I called Sprint they gave me a deal buy back my contract on the EVolte and cost me $380.00 for the early upgrade. Trust me... The EVo Lte is up too par with the Htc One. Except the live feeds, some camera features and display. But overall camera, performance and speed the EvoLte is equally matched.

I have to disagree. With 2 gb of ram, multitasking finally works right. Also, when sending mms, its far faster on the One to attach pics to the mms, including more than one pic. If its an AOSP rom on the LTE, then yeah its kinda close.
I have had the HTC Touch Pro, The HTC Touch Pro 2, EVO, Evo3D, EVO LTE, HTC One. The evo was ahead of it's time, but the 3D was actually one of my favorite upgrades. It was fast, going to the evoLTE from the 3D wasn't that impressive in my opinion. I always had issues with wi-fi on the evoLTE. It was a good phone but not something I was blown away on. The HTC ONE is amazing. The speakers alone are worth the upgrade. The way it's built is HTC's best built phone ever. It's super fast, battery rocks, wi-fi actually works correctly (at least for me). It's a very worthy upgrade, I couldn't wait to get rid of my evo LTE again mainly cause I had wi-fi issues. Could have been just my hardware. The one had worked perfect for me so far except my simulated battery pull doesn't seem to work correctly. Other than that, it's the most impressive upgrade I have had since I have been using smart phones. All the evo devices I have had on release day so I have had plenty of time using each one.
Paid for my one outright. Bit my wallet pretty bad, but it's worth every cent. The screen, the speakers, the cpu, the build, everything kicks the crap out of the lte. The ONLY thing that bothers me is...no miss my kickstand. I go to put my phone down and ..I...I don't know what to do with myself. Although the thing that has kept me the most happy so far is working radios. Consistent 3g, and I can actually hold an lte signal now!

Im an ex evo user. I got1and a half times the battery life with it. No comparison whatsoever. If course I used custom kernel but I am with this phone also. But with the evo I could have5 hours screen on and still get a total of 20 hours use. Just my 2 cents. My son had the evo as I gave it to him and he laughs when I have to charge this phone. We don't have lte where we live so thats not an issue. And for this camera being better I'm not sure that's the case either. We have done comparison shots and in my opinion the right megapixel it's definitely better in certain situations by far. Just my input. Thanks.

I don't regret this phone even for one second, much more solid and better connections, speakers are also great!! I do miss the kickstand however and regarding photos I've taken some very nice outdoor pictures and the low light aka indoor photos blow the evo lte away for sure, I took pics side by side in a dimly lit room evo u could barely see a chair of sorts the one u could see the chair the detail on the cushin and the dresser on the other side and also the wall 5 ft behind it instead of just darkness..I'll try to grab some side by sides and show u what I mean

I went through all the same phones you listed plus a couple more I've had the Evo 3d and this is the nicest HTC phone I've had yet

I was just a original Evo user - now I have the One - what a great phone. HTC understands what were about.
Get the One. I still have my Evo LTE and I do comparison and the One just outshines it. Better display. True multitasking, doesn't reload every app after leaving it. Better sound quality with and without headphones, you definitely can tell a difference. No lag issues at all. For instance. Download a torrent file on your Evo LTE, that phone will lag like hell. Do the same with the One, it will perform with no lag. If you're a gamer go with the One. Just get it. Best phone I've had.
My phone history is Motorola Q, HTC Mogul, Sidekick LX, IPhone, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Evo 4G, Evo LTE, now the One.

Have had each "EVO" (4G, 3D, 4g-LTE) since I came back to Sprint a while ago...
In Chicago, we've had LTE since last Fall. I do notice a difference in Speed (3-5Mbps faster in some areas) vs. my "4gLT-EVO." That alone was worth it to me!
:good:

Forgot that. 4G fights to light up on your phone. The LTE would stay on 3g until I cut my mobile network off and back on.

Yep, Got rid of my LTE for the One, the only thing that's taking me a while to get used to are my capacitive buttons. I just found out that double tapping the home button brings up the recent apps lol. I miss the camera buttons as well.
But once you get used to that, everything else is great. I love it, love Zoe, love the sound, screen size, and the hassle-free 4G. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and I'm yet to root it, longest I've gone, so, no complaints here.
While I was driving to the sprint store to get my One I kept saying why am I getting this new phone? After I got it there's no question that it was the right decision lol both moms have evo ltes now and I could never go back

Thinking of dropping S4 and getting HTC one...

Like the title says I'm thinking of switching my the galaxy s4. My main concern is for the battery. I know this is extremely different for each person, but more than not I see people complaint about the battery life.
I average 4.5 hours of screen time and just wondering what most people are getting. I browse the web, do some email and texting and may use Pandora for a few minutes. Not a heavy user, but I do get on it at times.
If anyone else has made the switch what re ur likes/dislikes so far??

I usually get about a day or so,,,, I'm always texting, making phone calls,on xda, playing games, talking pics
I love how it not plastic and it feels so solid in my hands,,, it's build is so much better then the s4
I say go for it, you'll be happy

I have come from the s4 and have never looked back. The Samsung was not a bad phone by any means, but IMO this phone by far outshines it. Battery gets me through the day and than some with moderate to heavy screen time, two push email accounts, tune in radio, etc. I noticed that the Samsung lagged and stuttered at times, not the case with the HTC. Dual speaker beats audio, can't beat them. Only plus for Samsung is remove able battery and micro SD. But HTC comes with 32 gig which is plenty, if not store it in the clouds. I can go on and on, I have spent a fortune switching phones, I have owned just about all top tier phones in the US, and the HTC far exceeds any other that i have used. Hope that helps you out with your decision.
I have thought of coming over from S4 as well but heard there was problems connecting to lte is thus true

I think the people saying it has trouble connecting to lte must be in cities where it was recently deployed because I haven't had any lte issues. Wherever my S3 gets lte so does the HTC One. I'm in Atlanta which was one of the first four cities to get lte so we have it everywhere.

I agree, I have the s4, icrap5, and the HTC. If I get lte on one of the 3 the HTC picks it up as well. I believe it just depends on how complete the towers are in areas of use.
I live the design of the one but will prolly out a case on it. With specs being pretty close I wasn't sure if it'd be worth the trouble. I think the screen on the one looks better.
