[Q] Is the anyway to Accelarate GPU? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My note is felling choppiness which moving from different screens . when scrolling text msgs , gallery, web pages. Is this normal ? can we accelarate the GPU? or can we install any other drivers so that the animations can be smooth like iOS or WP7 devices? Even market is very choppy. It feeling like laggy . pictures get cut in middle for some miliseconds. Please do help me on this matter as soon as possible.

That's not normal. Well, the Market is laggy by nature, so we can't do anything about it.
Check your CPU with Watchdog or something and check if a prosess is stuck.

No! This is not normal. Try use a different firmware and do a wipe. My device is faster than even Galaxy S2 on new kernel and firmware.

Do you maybe have power saving enabled? That will make ur note run only half speed.

Try out the FM kernel here. I've been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks with the Governor set to lulzactive via SetCPU, no overclocking and my Note is noticeably more responsive vs stock kernel using the default conservative Govenor.
And yeah, check you're not on power saving mode or something.

Simple IO Scheduler (SIO) for rooted LG optimus 4X

Hi all,
First of all I didnt come up with this method. However it is tested successfully by me on a Swedish rooted phone running V10D. I am not responsible for what you do to your device after installing this mod. You are responsible for your own actions! Batoo is the creator of this mod and thank him for his awesome work.
This scheduler is created for Asus transformer prime (and 300T). However as our LG 4X share the same Tegra3 chip it is working well.
Mods: as this is scheduler and development related mod I am posting in development section. Should you have any concerns feel free to move it to relevant sections. Thanks.
GUIDE
This mod works only on rooted phone. Read here on how to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502
1. Download ATP_Tweak_SysTune.apk app from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714253
2. Install ATP_Tweak_SysTune.apk
3. Open ATP Tweak app
4. It will show the current scheduler (should be "noop") and also available schedulers (again only "noop")
5. On the bottom right you ll see list of schedulers you can install. (in case you dont see just tilt your phone horizontally and you ll see all the text. This app is originally created for tablets )
6. Select sio-iosched
7. Of course it ll ask for root permission and click always accept/grant
8. On top you ll notice "sio" in the available schedulers along with "noop"
9. Select SIO scheduler and also select "Set Scheduler On Startup"
and you are done.
Do not delete ATP tweak app. If you do it ll remove the SIO on reboot. And you now know how to remove the scheduler if you dont want it anymore.
I've been using SIO for quite sometime and my phone is really snappy (and it is not just placebo) and battery seems to be better despite being on interactive governor. For those you are crazy about benchmark scores, I tried doing some with both SIO and NOOP. SIO did score higher in all my tests thou not by big margin. Attached are some if you care.
I've not tried installing any other scheduler as from my experience (on SGS2, Asus Transformer Prime and now LG 4X) SIO runs much better than other schedulers. Feel free to try and let us know how it goes.
PS: I am not the creator of this mod and so pls dont flame me if something goes wrong. However I am happy to help if there is anything I can help you with. Thanks.

installed a few mins ago, will test it and report back - thx anyway

"set on startup" - conflicts...
I routinely install SetCPU on my rooted devices and did so with the P880, too (I adjust cpu speed at startup, max=1200, which does save battery, and install a screen-off-profile with max=640 & gov=conservative). Now after installing this ATP-tweak & sio the device suddenly crawls on reboot: flipping screens etc - obviously enough both tools try to "set on boot" and compete for I dunno what... Is there a way I can use the sio scheduler WITHOUT using the ATP-tool, so as to set sio from within SetCPU and let SetCPU do all the cpu related work?

I too use SetCpu and i have both ScreenOff and InCall profiles enabled.
My settings are as follows:
Governor: Interactive
Scheduler: SIO
Freq: 51-1200
Set on Boot enabled
ScreenOff: 51-640, onDemand and no changes to scheduler (better not to touch that)
InCall: 51-640 and exclusive. OnDemand governor and no changes to Scheduler.
From what I read and experienced it is better not to use conservative or power saver on screen off or in call as you ll need screen to turn on quickly when you want to use it. Also OnDemand ensures freq goes down to minimum as soon as possible so that you get your battery savings.
Using above I have no issues with using SetCpu with ATP Tweak. Hope it works for you too.
PS: I am seeing the best battery life despite my regular heavy use. I am down to 54% after 8 hours of use with auto sync enabled, wifi/data always on, brightness at 60% and auto brightness and 30 mins of phone calls, 5 mins of Gtalk video calls

...problem gone now. SetCPU switched somehow back to noop and both of'em did kind of a conflict resolution while starting. Now all is ok, both starting up and finally agree on SIO I'll give your InCall a try, thanks for the tip. :good:
I don't understand a few things... Why have a great phone, with tegra3, whatever, and then limit the phone based on the battery life... It's like buy a Ferrari and don't go more than 80 km/h because of the fuel...

Having a Ferrari doesn't mean you have to go 200km/h all the time
Intelligent economy concepts are in use in the automobile industry as well. Some V8 and V10 engines can turn off half of their cylinders to save fuel when the full engine power isn't needed. :cyclops:

some questions

im using aokp build 40 and i have some question looking for an answer ... and beleive me i searched everywhere and didnt find an answer
1- how to use betterbatterystats ? cause i downloaded it from here xda version and open it and it give me this when i choose any option
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4lItoDxQiKdWmRsZmh6aEVNeEE/edit
no refernance set yet !!!
2- i want any one to try downloading these app " bey2ollak " cause it didnt work for me .. it opens the start screen and suddenly off to app drawer !! so i want to know what is the problem
3- in data usage there is an option for restrict background data for any app when using mobile data ... does it really work ? cause i restrict alot of apps and when i open it using mobile data it works and not restricted at all !! is there any app that make what i meant ? actually i want an app that block all app to reach to mobile data and select which app i want to reach to it
4- in navigation bar section in rom control there are two options " width and height " didnt work for me
5- recently i figured out alot of options that i didnt know it be4 .. but there are some options still i didnt know " wifi sleep power mode - voltage control - fast charge ( does it really works ?) - zipalign apks - read ahead value - fix permissions - enable sysctl - force gpu rendering -
6 - recently these error message appears alot " system process not responding kill the process ;ok - wait "
7- how to replace any system app with one i downloaded ? ex: if i want to delete the stock camera and replace it with camera fx to be the default camera app and poweramp to be the default system music app
8- is there any risk if if i played with max cpu speed and gpu clock speed and touchscreen clock speed ? if not so by ur experience what is the ideal values to set ?
and thanks in advance
Maybe nobody know the answer.
And by the way, your google docs doesn't allow access.
Anyway, BetterBatteryStats, just run it, charge your tab to full, and let BBS run for say 1hr
then open it and look at the kernel wakelocks "since unplugged" and also partial wakelocks.
You can paste the picture here and I can try with my limited knowledge to help.
BTW, why do you want to run BBS? you have battery consumption issue?
And for your other questions, I don't know the answers.
Answers, I think I know'em
You can force GPU rendering for playing games smoothly......!!!!
For improving games performance.....
Max CPU: 1200Mhz
Min CPU: 100Mhz
Set Governor to Lagfree.....
and see that games performance changes......
Also for the apps(Why do you want them to be default?????) Everytime you get an option to choose something:
For example: If u have have multiple launchers.......When you press the home button, a dialog box appears which wants You to choose one from them.....There you can set that launcher to default.....Hence everytime you press home button you will get the selected launcher without any dialog box popping up
You can do that for music players and other stuff where you have multiple apps to do the same thing....

[Q] Touch screen responsiveness in games

Hello there everyone!
I have a little problem with my Galaxy I9070. When playing Fruit ninja, i noticed, that there is a delay when i try to slice. Feels a lot like frame queing on desktop video cards. I tryed various things to fix it. Installed SGS Touchscreen optimizer, flashed ThunderZap kernel instead of a 4.1.2 stock one. I even tryed to set windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150 in build.prop, but the problem is, the phone won't boot after it. Does that last tweek depend on firmware? I tryed it before i flashed the new kernel (maybe i should try it again after flashink the ThunderZap kernel?).
So, am i missing something? I would really appreciate your help
Device is:
Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070
Stock android JB 4.1.2 (XXLPY) with ThunderZap kernel on top of it

1. What governor you use? Install no frill cpu from the market. Put it on PegasusQ, and IO to SIO.
2. Do you use some dim screen app?
3. Clean ram before play
4. Press left soft button to options. Uncheck those two stuff if it is checked. Second one is for faster phones (but we do not consider our phone to be slow).
P.S. I just played it, no problems at all.

Thanx for your response! No-frill is installed, governon is ondemand, io is cfq, no dimming app installed. The game runs very smooth, but the slice is delayed :/ maybe it has to do with some sort of Mali tweeks? Is there a way to disable frame que, to make the game more responsive but with less fps? It runs perfectly on my Galaxy S i9000 with 4.2.1 flashed

Tryed all this :/ The thing is, i don' think you will notice the delay if you don't have something to compare it to. On my i9000 the slice is instant, i can't see the begining of the blade (becouse my finger is always covering it). But on my gf's i9070 it feels like the slice is chasing my finger with a delay. Maybe it has something to do with Y version. But how about windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec option? Whi does it break the booting of the phone?

[Q] Slow UI, why?

Greetings,
I have a problem with my S Advance. The UI is very slow, the apps working fine, I mean I can play Dead Trigger well, Temple Run 2 also run greats, but the UI is really slow.
I noticed it while I had to look for something on my old Galaxy Ace. And it was pretty weird that it feeled faster than the S Advance. So I compared them, and it was true, the whole UI in the Ace is a lot faster.
So, the best way to show the differences between the speed of UI, I recorded the stock Notes app opening on the both phone.
S Advance: (Sorry for horrible quality)

Galaxy Ace:

Note: the memory was cleaned on both phone so the apps weren't in memory.

For me, CoCore E 5.0 with some props tweak improve ui response significantly.
Here are some ground rules for you to consider.
Use custom launcher like Holo Launcher HD, or if you like stock, go for modded one here in our forum.
Use ui build.prop tweaks like debug.sf.hw, or something similar.
Use good cpu scheduler like pegasusQ or OndemandQ with zen or sio (zen and cfq proven to be stable for me as a multitasker)
Use themed systemui, this helps a little bit, depends on your configuration
Play with your kernel, CoCore have some useful tweaks like Touch Booster controls and etc.
Also try to see your wakelock usage. Greenify proven for me to be most helpful in this area. Good luck
After upgrading to Jellybean (XXLQ4), my S Advance has been faster than ever... hmm.. try this, it could help....
1. Go to Settings > Dev. Options and Check Force GPU Rendering and Disable hardware overlays
2. See what's eating your RAM... sometimes the overall UI gets laggy when the RAM is almost full
3. Make sure your Power Saving mode is turned off... because Temple Run 2 works lag-free even when my Power Saving mode is on
4. Don't use Samsung's stock launcher.. it can get laggy sometimes and eats a lot of RAM btw...
5. Use governors like OnDemand. Performance or PegasusQ with I/Os like SIO or BFQ

[Q] How to lock frequencies?

Hi there, I'm using tf701t with cm11 on it and tried different ways to set max freq to 1428000, cause Im not a gamer, and that value really balanced with perf with cpu temp and battery life. I use device control, 3c toolbox, that suppotrs multikernel cpus and 'locking' freqs, but nothing helped, after a while some cpu kernels returnes to its default value. If there was a kernel with undervolt feature, it will be better solution. And I dont know custom kernels for our device with features to lock freqs. So does anyone have ideas with it?

This app cant set freqs, or Ive installed another one.
Ive found a right one - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegraoverclock&hl=ru
It specially desighned for tegras. Ive changed only the freq, its not the best, but it works and takes some heat and battery drain off. Other features force the device to reboot.
