Greetings,
I have a problem with my S Advance. The UI is very slow, the apps working fine, I mean I can play Dead Trigger well, Temple Run 2 also run greats, but the UI is really slow.
I noticed it while I had to look for something on my old Galaxy Ace. And it was pretty weird that it feeled faster than the S Advance. So I compared them, and it was true, the whole UI in the Ace is a lot faster.
So, the best way to show the differences between the speed of UI, I recorded the stock Notes app opening on the both phone.
S Advance: (Sorry for horrible quality)

Galaxy Ace:

Note: the memory was cleaned on both phone so the apps weren't in memory.

Yep.
Well, I decided to downgrade back to GB. I will wait for an official, international JB, I think that will be fine.

For me, CoCore E 5.0 with some props tweak improve ui response significantly.
Here are some ground rules for you to consider.
Use custom launcher like Holo Launcher HD, or if you like stock, go for modded one here in our forum.
Use ui build.prop tweaks like debug.sf.hw, or something similar.
Use good cpu scheduler like pegasusQ or OndemandQ with zen or sio (zen and cfq proven to be stable for me as a multitasker)
Use themed systemui, this helps a little bit, depends on your configuration
Play with your kernel, CoCore have some useful tweaks like Touch Booster controls and etc.
Also try to see your wakelock usage. Greenify proven for me to be most helpful in this area. Good luck
After upgrading to Jellybean (XXLQ4), my S Advance has been faster than ever... hmm.. try this, it could help....
1. Go to Settings > Dev. Options and Check Force GPU Rendering and Disable hardware overlays
2. See what's eating your RAM... sometimes the overall UI gets laggy when the RAM is almost full
3. Make sure your Power Saving mode is turned off... because Temple Run 2 works lag-free even when my Power Saving mode is on
4. Don't use Samsung's stock launcher.. it can get laggy sometimes and eats a lot of RAM btw...
5. Use governors like OnDemand. Performance or PegasusQ with I/Os like SIO or BFQ

Go read this thread and use that kernel with the ROM recommended there.

Try Darchdroid or you can wait until the get all the bugs worked out of the Froyo rom. I have been running the froyo rom since June 25th and it is fast.
Sense is eating up alot of your speed .

Sorry to say this but sense doesn't slow my rom down one bit. Its all in ur head. I've got my rom oc'd and have multiple launchers including sense and there is no speed difference. Actually it is quite fast.
I just downloaded Fresh 2.3.3
I just downloaded fresh 2.3.3 and its pretty quick, you will of course need a task killer, im using AutoKiller set to aggressive in the presets. I am considering overclocking it but havent yet
Question: what exactly is it about a particular ROM that makes it fast? JIT? For example, everyone says Darchdroid is fast. What about it that makes it so? A lot also say Fresh, HoneyBun, and nfinitefx's ROM are fast. I know they all support OC, but all things equal, is there an agreed speed tier list?

What affects the speed is the number of apps (as well as their optimizations), overclocking, JIT, the ROM base, and the Launcher. The number of apps affects the phone's memory. More memory = less lag generally (apps2sd corrects this issue). Overclocking, of course, increases the raw speed of the ROM. JIT helps apps lag less (games pretty much). The ROM base is a big factor. Basically HTC ROM's have more bloat in them than AOSP ROM's, so AOSP runs faster almost all the time. The Launcher also affects the speed because large launchers such as Sense take up more RAM. The generic, vanilla launcher is extremely minimal and therefore doesn't use as much RAM. So if you can optimize the heck out of Sense, then it will run faster.
drop it out of a plane.
My Experiences:
I have tried JIT, AOSP ROM , Sense + OC, and Sense. And now I am back at Sense + OC. Here are my opinions:
- JIT:
Pro: App loading + executing is much faster
Con: Phone run HOT + lower Baterry life + Bugs (Hopefully FROYO solve this)
- OC:
Pro: This speed up the system significantly.
Con: None or not yet
- ROM that has tweaks in the following areas will help speed up the phone:
1) Low memory killer tweak to prvovide more RAM (aggressively to kill hidden app, content provider and Empty app)
2) CPU Threshold setting at lower value (instead of default at 80%) --> Cost battery life but much quicker response at UI interface level.
My phone is fast and stable with Sense + OC at the moment. The wishes that I have for my phone now is:
1. Install more RAM .. hehheh not possible
2. Move Dalvik cache to phone internal cache space like Darch Droid
3. A Kernel that OC the GPU

idk about that. i tried dd2.7 yesterday for the first time. i wiped and installed 7 times to get it to run fast. enabled jit, flashed uv kernel,i had nothing installed at the time and no lw and it was 70% slower than my nfinite rom. i honestly dont know why everyone says dd is so fast. it literally took 15 seconds just to open up the dialer. i even restarted the phone several time so it would zipalign everything. and yes i wiped everything including ext.

When you first install a rom you will need to wait until the phone is done loading everything. Usually people try to open stuff before everything has been finalized and so it will open slower. I love sense, but in my opinion it is slower, but that might have been because I didn't OC it.

Has to be something you are not doing or your phone. I am running darchdroid 2.7 right now and it is hands down FASTER than any other ROM I have tried. I have the UV kernel installed as well. Most key presses are instant. Did you set the transitions to fast or turn them off altogether? That makes a big difference.

i did everything right. like i do with all my roms. i always turn the window and transition animation to off. that makes it so much faster then if you turn it to fast. had that set to off,uv kernel flashed, let everything finish syncing, didnt even install anything. still took 15 seconds just to open up the dialer. my nfinite rom is super fast. the second i press on something it almost emediately comes up. almost **** bricks at how fast it was

Maybe you should update your signature . I'm curious, how's the speed/battery life of Fresh 2.3.3 compared to nfinitefx rom? I'm trying to decide which should be my first custom rom. Oh, and are you using the odex or deodex version?
My note is felling choppiness which moving from different screens . when scrolling text msgs , gallery, web pages. Is this normal ? can we accelarate the GPU? or can we install any other drivers so that the animations can be smooth like iOS or WP7 devices? Even market is very choppy. It feeling like laggy . pictures get cut in middle for some miliseconds. Please do help me on this matter as soon as possible.
That's not normal. Well, the Market is laggy by nature, so we can't do anything about it.
Check your CPU with Watchdog or something and check if a prosess is stuck.

No! This is not normal. Try use a different firmware and do a wipe. My device is faster than even Galaxy S2 on new kernel and firmware.
Do you maybe have power saving enabled? That will make ur note run only half speed.
Try out the FM kernel here. I've been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks with the Governor set to lulzactive via SetCPU, no overclocking and my Note is noticeably more responsive vs stock kernel using the default conservative Govenor.
And yeah, check you're not on power saving mode or something.

Did a fresh install (wiped everything/cache) and using 220sys, 8cache (the one for Evervolv JB, so no change needed if upgradting to JB later) partitions. 1GB a2sd ext. Using smartassv2 governor.
It's laggy ---- press an icon/menu and I can feel significant lag before the app opens, and the time it take to start an app (e.g. facebook, skype, google voice) is MUCH more than CM7.2
Are these things I should try to alleviate this?
Other than the speed problem, it seems to work fine, but it's too slow as a daily driver...
Thanks,

I did turn off the animation. However, the lag happens when starting app, going around within app. It feels not just animation related.
Trying BCM(now SpazeDog) now. It feels a bit better. (I did use the same min/max cpu/governor when comparing them)
I actually use my phone to do stuff... not only tinker endlessly with it. I have Skype, Whatsapp, FB, Twitter running on the device at all times.
Last time I checked, when I boot my phone I have 768 MB in use! So when I open Chrome, or Logmein, it takes.. .forever. Even opening the dialer takes a couple of seconds. The phone itself is smooth - opening apps is what chokes my phone.
I don't overclock my phone (on JB it's impossible, anyway). But I don't think it's a GHz issue. I think that if I had 2 GB of RAM everything would be fine.
Anyway.
Should I get off JellyBean for the time being and go back to ICS? Or, would CM10 be faster and lighter?
I can't believe that when I got my Note a couple of months ago I thought it was blazing fast, and now it seems turtle-like when comparing it to my wife's Optimus 4X
In Cm10 or 10.1, ram usage is low and apps open fast too.
There are several things you can do to speed it up and lower the RAM usage. Easiest method would be to flash a tweaked ROM like Ultimate or Alliance, which already come with various optimizations. But what I found best regarding RAM usage was to install ROM Toolbox Pro, and tweak the settings under Memory Management. I use the "Advanced" or "Aggressive" profile.
This is, of course, if you want to stick with Samsung ROMs. Otherwise you could try CM/AOKP-based ROMs, some are much more lightweight than Samsung. The best in my opinion are SlimBean and Jellybam.

You should try Cassies Xtra lite 11.1 LSA (there is slight difference between LSC so dev didn't make a ROM that's based on LSC)
Than flash LSC kernel if u want and use V6 superecharger from zepp and your antutu will be somewhere near 10000!!!
Thanks tu CF,Zepp,Thering1975,Adam Outler,Eybee1970 and Philz.
Try this Ram Optimizer Pro...has different profiles to choose from....

Also if you wanna OC to 1.6gHz here ya go..just install the apk then load the module then set your speed..

All the possibilities above are good alternatives to you, friend.
I use CM10.1 cause I'm always looking for good battery and smoothness.
As I'm too lazy to install and tweak those RAM optimizers, I always try custom ROMs.
Btw, Jelly Bam is trully great.
Hello there everyone!
I have a little problem with my Galaxy I9070. When playing Fruit ninja, i noticed, that there is a delay when i try to slice. Feels a lot like frame queing on desktop video cards. I tryed various things to fix it. Installed SGS Touchscreen optimizer, flashed ThunderZap kernel instead of a 4.1.2 stock one. I even tryed to set windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150 in build.prop, but the problem is, the phone won't boot after it. Does that last tweek depend on firmware? I tryed it before i flashed the new kernel (maybe i should try it again after flashink the ThunderZap kernel?).
So, am i missing something? I would really appreciate your help

1. What governor you use? Install no frill cpu from the market. Put it on PegasusQ, and IO to SIO.
2. Do you use some dim screen app?
3. Clean ram before play
4. Press left soft button to options. Uncheck those two stuff if it is checked. Second one is for faster phones (but we do not consider our phone to be slow).
P.S. I just played it, no problems at all.

Thanx for your response! No-frill is installed, governon is ondemand, io is cfq, no dimming app installed. The game runs very smooth, but the slice is delayed :/ maybe it has to do with some sort of Mali tweeks? Is there a way to disable frame que, to make the game more responsive but with less fps? It runs perfectly on my Galaxy S i9000 with 4.2.1 flashed

Tryed all this :/ The thing is, i don' think you will notice the delay if you don't have something to compare it to. On my i9000 the slice is instant, i can't see the begining of the blade (becouse my finger is always covering it). But on my gf's i9070 it feels like the slice is chasing my finger with a delay. Maybe it has something to do with Y version. But how about windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec option? Whi does it break the booting of the phone?
