Switching from 3G and H+ all the time! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mine phone is switching between 3g and H+ all the time. Whenever I'm surfing or looking at video streams. It it normal and have set it to WCDMA only.
I have max 3mbit dl and 2mbit up on 3g. So no use for H+.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

The Note will only show H+ when its actively using it. The indicator switches back to 3G when its not actively transmitting.

thanks Snippe. I see you are in Beverly MA. I grew up in Chelmsford MA. Family still up there.

Yeah this happens to me too. Is there a way to force it to stay on H?

It will use H+ if you have it, and it will show H+ only when you are activly downloading/Uploading data. Not even native ATT H+ Phones show H+....They just show 3g

UK T-Mobile not T-Mobile/Orange as default

Hi
I'm in the UK and on the T-Mobile network, I get a better signal in my area (H+) when I choose the network "T-Mobile" rather than "T-Mobile/Orange", the problem I have is that it seems to default to "T-Mobile/Orange" and I have to manually change the network via settings/mobile networks.
Is there anyway for it to choose T-Mobile by default and stay on it?
Kind Regards
Are you selecting network manually. If so have you checked apn settungs to see if you can enter tmobiles details only.
Not sure with them merging there cell towers if you can only select 1 though

Hi Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure about the checking apn settings bit, I've gone into "edit access point" but haven't a clue what I'm looking at!
I'm on T-Mobile aswell and I only have the below fields filled in:
Name: web'n'walk
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
MCC: 234
MNC: 30
APN type: internet
I get about 1.8mb download speed on a H+ signal, although I did hit 4mb once when I was in Central London. My GNote rarely switches over to the Orange signal although I have seen it happen.
Mine is the following:
Name: T-Mobile Internet
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
MCC: 234
MNC: 30
APN type: internet+mms
I get 3.70Mbps Down 0.54Mbps up whilst on T-mobile and 0.81Mbps Down 0.35Mbps up whilst on T-Mobile/Orange! Big difference.

SOLVED: AT&T terrible speedtest results (fixed mine)

I've seen some AT&T customers complain about terrible speeds and latency when doing speed tests. I too had this issue. Before the fix, I was getting about 20 kbps downstream and 400+ latency. After, I'm getting 6+ mbps and 80-120 latency. I fixed mine by adding a new APN with these settings. To change them, go to SETTINGS -> MORE... -> MOBILE NETWORKS -> ACCESS POINT NAMES. From here, either select the existing one or click the menu key to create a new one. Also, if you create a new one, make sure to select it after you're done making it. (you have to tap the radio to select it because tapping the name will edit it but NOT select it).
The blank ones are blank/unspecified. You probably only need to change APN and APN type (the other shown values were already like this on mine). For APN type, those are commas separating the terms. I posted a link to 3 shared screenshots so you can see what it should look like.

Do you get H+ insted H?? if u dont mind can you check in Settings, about phone and Status. in mobile network type HSPA:10 or HSPA+:15????
Didn't work for me (data gets disabled), however the only APN settings that have worked so far are the stock ones with wap.cingular.com. I have tried numerous other ones to no avail..

Thanks..I honestly didn't think there was a difference between the LTE and non-LTE plans at AT&T. But my dad is in charge of the plan, so maybe I am missing something.
I'm using the same Stock AT&T PTA apn I've used since the Infuse 4g and it works perfect. Stock APN I couldn't even get 20kbps most of the time. Now I can at least get 5.7 (about what I'm used to in my area).

I'm using the pta APN since I came from an LTE phone so my sim is provisioned for it. I usually got about 8-9mbps down in this location when on my sgs3 so if these speeds stick and improve I'm quite happy. Obviously uploads are the biggest hit but not too worried about that

It wouldn't work for me with the default WAP.Cingular APN. As soon as I changed it to the hspa+ one, speed test worked.
For this of you on the pta APN, does your MMS work? If so, do you still have the WAP.Cingular APN in the list (just not checked)? Or is the pta APN the only one listed?
I too have my Sim provisioned for lte, but if I use the pta APN, I get great data speeds, but no MMS. Thanks.

Many thanks for posting this! My internet donwload speeds went from .001 MBPS download to 2.97MBPS. I hate to say this, but it still felt snappy even at .001 MBPS. My Galaxy S2 was so slow to process websites.
solved minus mms......
I get faster speeds with the new APN, but I can't get H+ in areas where is was able to get it with my S3. Anyone have a solution?
thanks for this!
Posted this on another similar thread. Worked for me. It's the Cingular.WAP APN but slightly different.
"Anybody still having issues with att H+ speeds try the APN settings from this link
http://nerdynerdnerdz.com/blog/2011/07/23/att-apn-mms-settings-android/
My speed increased by 600% when I switched to this, from barely 1Mbps to 6+Mbps. I also can run the speed test app now whereas before I could not."

Yes, add this to the OP and everything will work.
I came across this topic on rootzwiki a while back and it's helped me a few times. Obviously it's for ATT only.

Request: Get VS980 with 24A to work on T-Mobile

I am trying to figure out the right combination of files to flash in order to get the vs980 to work on tmobile, pref with android 4.4.2 since both phones are now updated to that version of android if you can provide any instructions of help that would be really awesome. If you have your phone running on tmob would you mind also answering the few questions below?
are you using a Verizon or Tmobile: Rom, Modem, Recovery, Kernel? I want to experiment but dont want to hose my phone and want to know specifically what part is the key in getting this to work on tmob
Just put your Sim card in , it's an unlocked phone , set up T-Mobile APN to use T-Mobile internet. Switch to global mode for 4glte. I'm currently on T-Mobile stock 4.4.2

I have the verizon lg g2 on stock 4.4.2 rom, the 24A update with a t-mobile sim inserted. The first thing the phone will do is automatically switch to global mode. You'll have to go into networking settings>mobile networks and add the t-mobile lte apn settings, fast.t-mobile.com:

hit menu and then save. I currently am on stock rom, not rooted and getting 4g lte from the t-mobile sim in the suburbs of L.A., 15mbs-30mbs depending on where I am in the city.

on your network type, is it now showing T-Mobile? under mobile networks>network type and strength, you can do an automatic network search and then choose t-mobile when it appears. also, check and see if your area has 4g/lte support, the verizon lg g2 only has the 2100 lte band in common with t-mobile and not the 1700 band.

It says t-mobile in the lock screen but under network type and strength it just says 3g-75dBm. Also, in this screen I can't select anything or go to any menu. I'm in Oakland, CA so I assumed I have lte. I read an article saying my city is refarmed 1900 to HSPA+. I guess that's supposed to be 4g and not lte?
How'd you get that ? mark icon in the notification to go away?
Thanks.

as far as I know, the 1700/2100 bands are the lte's, it looks like your area is H+ at best running the 1900 band. I could be wrong, but double check with T-mobile to make sure.

Hey guys so I am on tmobile on the vs980 and I would like to flash a custom Rom but I had to downgrade the phone with LG flash tools to get data to work on the phone. I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to flashing roms and such but when I use the autorec app and flash twrp and then flash a Rom like say cm11 or color is 4.2.2 it will eaithier bootloop or show the LG symbol and then go to a black screen any help would be great thanks

VS980 on T-Mobile what Rom are you running?

Just like the title say, what Rom are you running using Verizon LG G2 and if you are running T-Mobile Rom please leave more info about what works and what's not (looking for a tmobile Rom for my vs980 as well.
I'm running ROM : Malladus 2.0.2
With out any changes
So far everything works fine 4G LTE few drops in some areas but that is normal I guess. SMS,MMS and calls works (using hangouts for txt and mms I just like it better than stock.

I just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile this week with my VS980.
I've been able to get the phone setup and working mostly.
I'm picking up LTE, but it's slowish. Usually only picking up 1 or 2 bars and tot more than 12 mbps down/1 mbps up according to Speedtest, though that might just be my area. I'm in a larger city but still in the Midwest.I can make/receive calls just fine. I can send and receive MOST texts. Some text messages/calls I'm not receiving. Specifically, I have my online bank account setup to require a code which the bank sends via text message or call and my phone does not receive either, even though I'm getting texts/calls from other sources. This is actually kind of a big pain for me and if anyone could help me solve it I would be most appreciative.
I'm running CM 11 nightly. I did flash the 12b radio. I haven't tried the 24A radio yet.
Preferred Network is T-Mobile, although I've had the phone search networks a couple different times and there is always 3 T-Mobile networks listed and I'm really not sure if there is a difference or if there is a specific one I should be selecting since there is no way to differentiate them.

I'm using the T-mo variant of the Note 4 with my AT&T service, with the "phone" apn settings. Really, I have tried 4 or 5 different AT&T apn settings, but on none of them do I get LTE.
I get horrible dropped calls, and can't make or receive calls from inside of any building. Does anyone know of how to help? Maybe AT&T hasn't provisioned me for LTE? Or something is wrong with the phone? Can someone please help?
