Hi,
I have a problem with Galaxy Mini.
For some reason, the device doesn't want to accept the network, or vice versa.. I tried selecting the network manually but it still doesn't work, no service signal and the device status it says that the Network is Unknown.
I tried using 2g networks only, but still no luck. There isn't many settings to change, so maybe I thought something can be done by going into its system files and modifying something there manually...
I've heard similar problems that were fixed by enabling GSM only, but I have no idea how to do it on this phone..
Any help is appreciated!

PROBLEM SOLVED - DEFECTIVE SIM CARD. Thanks everybody !!!
Hi guys,
I really need your help with this one, here's the deal :
1. just bought my second SGS from vodaphone CH last week.
2. the phone came with 2.1 stock
3. i was not able to get data connection (able to make phonecalls and sms, but no 3g)
4. my apn settings are correct (i have another sgs configured same way on same network)
5. decided to upgrade to 2.2 (JPH) hoped this would help - NO
6. updated MODEM & CSC to the SAME ones working on my second SGS - STILL NOT WORKING
what else could it be ???
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
did you install DroidWall ?

Never heard of that Apo.

Here's what's there, can you see what is wrong ?
Try this, worked for me
This is a weird coincidence. I have (had!) the exact same problem.
My problem was when I reflashed my galaxy S with stock firmware back again, I lost 3g connection. Using a different sim (which supports only Edge) I was able to get edge connection but with my sim, there was no connection.
Here's what I did. It seems when you select the band selection to "Automatic" it somehow didnt get registered properly even though it showed up on the settings->Wireless and network->Mobile networks->NetworkMode. Even though it read GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) it wasnt actually the case.
So - type *#2263# on your phone to enter the Service Mode's Band Selection.
There see if first row is [1] AUTOMATIC[] OR [1] AUTOMATIC[*]
In my case it wasnt selected ie. there was no *. So I clicked on it and did that selection myself and baam!! H connection. It connected even before I exited from service mode.
I tried a 2g and 3g card after that multiple times and it connects properly to E or H from then on.
Give it a try. I am hoping that your APN is set properly.
Anup
Thanks for the help, but unfortunately this didn't work :-(
1. Automatic was selected.
2. Ive tried to play around with the options there and within the mobile networks.
Nothing works ... this is so frustrating :-(

Why didn't you just call Vodafone and get their help before flashing the phone If you already have another SGS configured same way at the same location with 3G, then chances are there is a hardware problem with the phone.
Anyways, try contacting vodafone, they might still do something about it (despite the fact you have voided their warranty by flashing).

The problem is that I'm not from Czech Republic. The phone was purchased there by a friend of mine and brought to me...
Yesterday my Milestone dropped the network and wrote "Only emergency calls". On other phones there was maximum signal. After a while the phone logged in to the network, but lost the signal again. I thought something is with the ROM, so I made a factory reset but didn't help. I flashed the correct SBF file (first Éclair, then Froyo), but didn't help. I restored an earlier MOD I used without any problem but didn't work.
I always used the German baseband files with other MODs because my Milestone is German.
The problem is that if I make anything (I mean anything related to the data connection), the GSM signal disappears, sometimes data connection remain with no problem, sometimes it is lost, too, but sometimes it has GSM signal with only EDGE network. If I do nothing, just turn off the screen and do nothing, everything goes back to normal, and the phone has normal data connection with GSM signal, I can make or receive phone calls.
I put in another SIM but the issue was the same.
Can I try something related to software and didn't try yet or this is a hardware failure? And if so, what is the price of a GSM module? I couldn't find it.
MOD: It seems that only the 3G is not working (sometimes HSPA does while 3G phone connection don't), with 2G there isn't any problem.
dial *#*#4636#*#*
Under phone info, try a different network type.
It probably defaults to GSM (auto). It does on mine anyway and it's fine.
But maybe WCDMA preferred, GSM only, or WCDMA only will work better.
It depends on which is screwing up... the WCDMA or the GSM
edit: had the dialpad code wrong... again.. geez

Are you sure you have applied the correct baseband?
I would tell to re-apply thru AOR.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
You could go to settings, wireless and networks and somewhere there there is use only 2g networks and if that is checked, you could try to uncheck it. That is what happened to me before on the froyo mod. Also, you could try turning on airplane mode, then turn it off. Good luck
I always used the German baseband, tried to switch 2G/3G many times, applied the baseband trough OR, applied the RTEU baseband, re-flashed the ROM, the original Éclair, the Froyo, again and again but nothing helped. I gave up I decided to go to the service. Before that on a forum somebody asked something, I gave an answer but I was not 100% sure about it, so I flashed the RTEU Froyo.
And it worked. The 3G, HSPA, 2G, EDGE, phone functions all are working now. My phone is truly German, it has QWERTZ keyboard and the original ROM was the ROM from Deutsche Vodafone (tried that one before, too), it has the logo on its box, and the German baseband files always worked. I don't know what just happened, it's simply working now. Why now... don't know.
Hello,
I've read a dozen threads on this forum about this problem that I have, but I couldn't find anything that can fix it.
3 Weeks ago I bought a Samsung S Advance I9070, and everything worked fine till today.
The main problem is when I switch on the data network mode nothing happens, the data icon doesn't appear next to my signal bar ,as it once did and my internet doesn't work.
What I've tried so far:
Check apn settings;
Delete existing apn then manually insert them as my carrier asks.
Delete apn again and sent a free sms to carrier center and get a message with automatic settings, activating those settings.
Erased everything from my phone , factory reset, wipe cache, restore to a 3 days old backup (when everything was fine).
All of the above with no result.
The only thing that worked for me is the change I made in network mode -> i put gsm instead of gsm/wcdma, but from what i can figure this disables my 3g completely , leaving me only with an edge type of connection. This last change gave me acces to internet but only with an E icon(probably from edge, i have no real idea).
The phone has 2.3.6 Gingerbread , I haven't made any change of ROM, I only tried once to install JB through kies but the program failed and the update didn't even start.
I know it's a long post but, I'm kinda "scared" by the fact that I might need to return the phone.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks for your time!

Do you have ok network coverage for 3G? Maybe that could be a problem.

Well this problem appeared at home and until today I had 3g signal,it's kinda hard for me to believe that the entire 3G signal got lost in 1 day, but I will try it somewhere else and see if there's a difference, Thank you for your fast response.

Try flashing some other Roms like XXLQB/XXLQE.. You can search XDA for flashing roms..
Today I flashed a JB I9070XXLQE_I9070COALQ1 official firmware via odin.
At first I thought the problem solved, because I saw the H/3g icon next to the signal bar, but when I tried the internet ... i was disappointed.
I then reset to factory settings and cleared my cache like I read in some threads on this forum , and I got fresh apn from my carrier, but now when i activate the data network mode, the icon's missing again and ofc the internet doens't work.
Is it possible that the 3g is broken? even though i can use internet via edge?
Try selecting WCDMA mode only and see if u can get 3G signal...Else call customer care and ask them whether 3G is activated for ur number...
Any fix for this?

Unfortunately, no.
I've been using the GSM only option for the past days , until I have the time to take the phone to a service or smth.
A weird thing happens though, if I switch to gsm/wcdma and reboot the phone, in the first ~2 minutes after restarting I get 3g signal and I'm able to connect to the internet.(maybe the 3g service crashes ).
Probably before I take it to service I'll try and flash a new JB and do the apn trick once more, maybe this time I get lucky.

facing the same problem but no solution
Well my problem is the following, im from argentina, and i have this s5 g900a, the worst model of all, i have a 4g plan from an argentinian company, of course, called tuenti, the problem is the g4 gets on when the cellphone wants, (in addition theres no option, as in other s5 models, to choose CDMA or WCDA, or whatever its called to chosee between 3G/4G) but not when i need it, i tried everything the APN is ok, the network operator is set to manually for "tuenti company", even if i set it to automatic the 4g wont come back, then i play a while touching the option "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" from *#*#4636*#*#* but nothing, i just dont know what to do, it works fine for moments, the worst of all is turn off the phone, so i got to do all of this again, and see if the 4g comes back, plz i need help about that problems, thanks to anyway who could help me!!
Edit: the 4G/4G LTE is showed on the phone but when i use chrome or messenger nothing happens.

It seems the AT&T Galaxy S5 variant 4G bands might not work properly in your country (Argentina uses BAND4-AWS). Unfortunately, changing carriers will not solve the issue. Look in here carrier network compatibility http://willmyphonework.net/

As the site says: "Result Device is compatible with some of the network carriers frequencies. It may work.", in fact it works fine, but the problem as i said before, is sometimes i cant use internet, or any app which use internet, because they wont connect, the 4g symbol is there, i've read changing to airplane mode would fix that, it worked, but its quite bothering to do that everytime the phone runs out of internet
My brother has the same problem on his S5. Hopefully someone has a solution. All of the APN settings are correct.
hi
i got the phone from korea, the problem is when connecting to 4G the phone would lose internet and calls then lose the network, i get a message saying "failed to register to network (15)" but if i forced the phone to connect to 3G then it works fine. here's what i tried to fix the problem :
turning off the mobile network then turning it on
resetting the network settings
removing NR Whitelist
and none of them fixed the issue. there's a korean menu in the service mode, but i didn't miss with it. i have attached screen shots of the software information and the korean menu in the service menu.
Who provides your service? Have you tried going into network settings and APN and see what that says
If it is a Korean phone and you aren't in Korea and it is locked into the network then you won't be able to get service somewhere else I don't think
