What do you guys think the best rom is? I currently have CyanogenMod 7.1.0 and I'm looking for more Roms that are good.

Koush's Hero Deck is sweet

and
Jaybob's ROM also
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090234
Jaybobs latest is definitely the best rom out right now... might even be the best this little hero has ever ran

The best way to find out which is the best rom for you is to go on a flashing spree. I've done it on more than one ocasion; even reverting to older roms 2.1, 2.2, i even found a 1.6 but i like gingerbread so i stick with 2.3 roms. Its all a matter of taste. there is a Spanish saying that goes " para los gustos se hicieron los colores. which roughly translated means "colors where made for preferences". So I personal like sense roms but they are a bit heavy and bog down the hero so I stick with CM7.1

Can this be made to work on the G1 ???

According to your sig, you already have froyo on your G1.
Maybe I am not understanding the direction your question.

well i thought the mytouch was similar to the g1 hardware-wise, but I may have that wrong... BUT, if it were possible, then it'd be a better more up to date bugless rom... or no?
Hi Northleaf,
I personally don't have any experience with the ROM in your sig,
But if you want to go bugless (bugless?), may I recommend ezGingerbread. It is completely factory Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread).
For more of a power user, May I recommend Ginger Yoshi 1 RC6.1, I am using that right now, and it is bugless and really stable for day to day usage.

the mytouch 3g slide is very different from the g1 in order to get that rom working on a g1 it would have to be ported that that is a good bit of work depending
Do you have to be on a froyo firmware to flash cyanogenmod7 and miui?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yes, but more specifically froyo bootloaders. Miui does to as it is based on CM7. There are heaps of guides around that include instructions on how to go to Miui or CM7. This one explains how to go to CM7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101534[/URL
And this one for Miui: [URL="https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y&pli=1"]https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y&pli=1

Ezbase 2 is the best start point for a journey to cm7, why not try insanity cm? Come join the insane
GTi9000 insanity cm012/glitch
I will after I have used darky's for a.little longer. The roms I have tried are gingerreal and darky's 10.1. The roms I have tried are dark core and the one that came with gingerreal and I can't tell a difference in nh the.performance.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I think I will stick with darky as I found that battery life is quite a bit better on gingerbread than froyo
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yes, if you want to have a good battery life, you shouldn't use CM7 or MIUI. Cause if cmpare battery life to Samsung-based ROMs it's not so good (but it's getting better from day to day ).
So which other roms can I flash straight away which are gingerbread based other than darkys and gingerreal?

Just look in the 'Galaxy S Android Development' section.
Take a look at

Why not CM7? It's based on 2.3.4 and you can overclock/undervolt too.

Juwes and GingerCriskelo works very fine.
not a direct response to your question but: I've tested a few jvp roms incl. Juwe's v5 release (and I honestly admire Juwe for his work) however insanity 10 (which is CM based) provides a much smoother user experience. give it a try....
I am waiting on Simply Honey 3.8. Tried a few of the others but so far i have been extremely pleased with SH. Been with it since v3.2. New one is gonna be released at 3.30pm today!

Hi in your opnions whats the best rom for the s,darkys? Or suggestions welcome, itsfor my better half, she likes it simple,im not beibng a git in saying thT

I'd say its all about personal preference mate, if you want a rom that's quick, with no bugs etc then yeah Darky's is the rom for you. But if you want a ported rom I.e HTC sense, 2.3.4 from the nexus s etc then that can be done but as I said, its all about personal preference as roms are being released nearly every days and each with different capabilities and different features. I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 with Glitch kernel, overclocked to 1.44ghz and it works a treat hope this helps bud

Well... i've been trying the galnet miui and it works wonderfully. Fast, simple, beautiful and easy to install.
Just my opinion... but go and have a look... many are satisfied.
Good luck!

If u are new to flashing stuff, stick with darkky.. its simple, elegant and fast but if u want advanced feature like theming on the go, try miui...(ps: installing miui may not be as simple as darkky) Happy flashing..
Thanks for all advice, ill check them out later, darkys rom looks good, whats this about the htc port, how much is ported? Sense features?

You have to root your device first bud

I'm current running Cyanogenmod 7 Nightly #41 and its fast and responsive, but you mentioned your wife likes things simple, so i'd suggest keeping it stock, at least until she says that it is running too slow. Then i'd go for Darky, nice and simple and very few or no bugs.
Or try Juwe's ROM, I like it more than Darky 10.1.

True that mate good advice I'm on cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 and that's stable too nice and snappy

Did debugging mode not work then bud?? Try this. First off, go into settings, wireless and network, USB, then tick Samsung Kies. Then connect your phone to your computer/laptop, wait a few moments, then load Samsung Kies, once loaded, at the top....select tools, then select re-install drivers. This will then install your device drivers again. Keep your phone connected whilst its installing your drivers. Let me know how it goes

MIUI or F1 SGSII (with Galaxian Kernel)
Sgs big bench mark scres using
BASED FIRWARE 2.3.4
KERNEL GALAXIAN V4
ROM CriskeloROM Gingerbread v75
This combo is fast, stable, and by far the best settup for Galaxy S, 3000+ Quadrant scores, neat and highly customisable, SET CPU to 1.4 overclock and watch you phone kick anal!
Darkys is now so defunked, months ago! Was good, but now, you got your undies cought around your ankle if using darkys, time to get with the prgram, if you want speed, try the combo as above, after many many many different combos, finally found the master combo (-:

I've been using this captivate that a buddy let me have for a few months now, and I have enjoyed playing around with it. My friend needs a new phone so I am giving him this Captivate and returning to the desire HD that I have. I'm looking for a ROM that is fast and stable but I don't necessarily want to give him a stock odin rom. I am familiar with rooting, recovery and flashing custom ROMs. I've got a few questions and preferences:
I'm looking for something that will boost performance and remove bloat.
I need it to be incredibly stable as I will be flashing it and then it will be out of hands.
I would prefer ICS if possible, but a good stable gingerbread ROM would be fine too.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Check out the Collective team. They has several Roms...GB, ICS and JB.
Here is the ICS Rom thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29979761
Here is the thread for JB.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31145604

Just a couple quick things to ponder while you are looking into the ROMs. If they need something stable imo gb is gonna be the way to go. ICS you have to worry about the encryption unsuccessful issue that is known to hit the cappy. (you can find the thread about this in the dev section). While there are some really great jb ROMs out there (The Collective included lol) sometimes can still have a few bugs.
BTW @ 4-2ndtwin you missed a ROM lol.
And thanks for your help on that sgs3 thing.
