[Q] HTC Sync 3.0 issue - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just looking for help setting up the latest htc sync. It doesn't recognize my hero, so what do i do? I've been searching through every thread on every hit i got on google and none of them help.

I think i am having the same issue...Im new to the whole rooting and flashing ROMs thing so I figured that SYNC wasn't compatible with the ROM I am running, maybe I was wrong?

Ok will you be a little more specific on what's your problem?? As in what rom are you running?? Are you s-off?? What recovery?? What happens when you try to sync??? This info will help members give you better assistance.

Alright.
Im using dReW's Ginger Faux ICS Rom ( the first rom in my sig.) I'm s-off. Im using the latest recovery (at least i think; i have 5.0.2.7 ) So i downloaded htc sync 3. whatever off of htc's site. I notice that the icon for it, is the Europe version of the htc hero, so idk if that means that this sync is for that version of the hero. But if it was, I don't think it would matter since htc didn't specify which hero it was for (correct me if i'm wrong). The installation goes normally. Then, i plug my phone to the pc (via usb cable) and i open htc sync. It opens , but it still says no device detected. I tried rebooting, and doing like 10 other things suggested ,when i googled this but nothing worked. I wonder if I have to go back to a sense or even the stock rom ?

You don't need HTC Sync to use adb. You need to have the Android SDK set up

Oh..i was following instructions on some other site an they said you needed htc sync.. Umm, I'm pretty sure that the instructions are buried within the forum, so can i ask that someone give me instructions from beginning to end on how to get adb? I have the SDK Manager installed already as well as the java develop thingy.

Whaaattt?? Man lol all your trying to do is setup adb??? If so your thread title should have been different. But let me know if that's your goal. If so what os are you running??

Long time lurker, first time poster. Help, please...

Greetings. First off, respect to the devs, they do great work...
Secondly...my hero's pri is 170. The newer version is 220. Ive been going from stock to fresh 2.1.2, trying different radios and such.
I want to update the pri but cant seem to find a way to do it w/out losing root. I dont so much care about the root as i do not having the useless sprint apps on there. I was gonna install the .6 update then the older .5 version to see if the pri would stick-or even update.
Is there a way i can update the pri? Has the .6 version been rooted by the genius devs?
Id appreciate any positive feedback/advice/solutions. Thank you.

There is a rooted .6 version already in this section. It has superuser, busybox, and a2sd already. Check it out
It seemed to me that i didnt meet requirements to run that specific rom. It also had some stuff i wasnt so interested in.
I hate to be this guy, but you should post this in the Q&A section....
PS, there is no such thing as "not meeting min. requirements" If you have a cdma hero, every rom in this section will work for you.
Also, if there is something in a rom you don't want, you can always remove it.
my 2 cents.

you should run the RUU in my rooting guide under the second post. It WILL clear your data, but your PRI should be updated, then use my guide to root, and install another custom ROM.
Im not clear what to download from your links in your sig. I dont see a ruu listed. Or the root instructions that i have to use after i run the ruu. Please elaborate. Thank you

I assume all you'd have to do i take the rom .zip from the temp folder when you run the exe, then use even the basic android kitchen to root it and then rezip that shizzle. Am i correct? If so, i'm happy to have a go =]

I too would like to know if this is all that's needed. Lets get some training in for when the Froyo update arrives and we want a rooted update.zip the same day
If you gonna root it, make sure you use the "good" root app (the ninja one), not the crap one that locks up if you have USB debugging enabled (the blue # app).

Need Help Rooting

Hey all, I have an Evo 4G and have no damn clue what I'm doing to this old hero, but I've managed to root it with z4root. The problem is I can't access a computer to perform an adb recovery flash and I also can't find Rom manager..
I've tried downloading rom manager from an outside source but it always says error parsing package.
I'd like to know if I can download the proper app or if I can run an ruu without a computer. (I'm not a total noob, I've been around the block a few times..)
Software version: 2.32.651.2
HBOOT: 1.47
Here is a link to rom manger which I know works. Hopefully you can install this one.

Yeah. Look into the Development section. It allows us to repartition space on the Hero to open up more space.
Pretty neat stuff there. Can't wait until they do it for the EVO 3D.

Hey everyone I'm new to HTC one, got a couple questions

I am gonna root this later this week when I have spare time. I wad wondering what's the best time available and any useful mods or something that may be required or anything I should stay away from. I'm use to the Samsung galaxy from s2, s3, and s4 so this phone is like a whole new world for me lol.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't know what you mean by "best time available"
You should stay away from roms and kernels from the International HTC One board (Includes T-Mobile, At&t, Verizon), unless your 100% sure that it supports Sprint.
Do not wipe Internal Data in your custom recovery (kinda obvious but some people still manage to do it.)
that's pretty much it for the don'ts I think...
I would recommend the latest TWRP recovery, ViperOne 3.2 RC2 (even though it might have a few bugs, it has mods up the butt and it's my personal favorite rom.)
And lastly, RUU's are your best friend when your having huge problems with your One or just want to go back to stock; Its sorta like Odin :good:
P.S. Even though its not required, I would recommend achieving S-Off while there is still a working method.
Lol sorry on the good time part.. I meant best roms. phone autocorrects me all the time. Only had the phone for about 10 hours now so I doesn't know my typing. I ended up having the iPhone 5 for like 2 months.. needed something new. I remember using RUU on HTC eco shift but that was a long time ago lol. Thank you for the info
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
this is why these BEST threads are frowned upon, I actually prefer philz cwm recovery and would say steer away from viperone because of the bugs. ecliptic one is literally flawless. see everybody has a preference. best advise is to read everything you can handle and find something that has the feature YOU desire. definitely get s-off, no custom kernels, and as previous post stated keep ur flashing to sprint threads only. there are a few roms in international thread, just read carefully and confirm sprint support! Bigdaddy619 is a wealth of knowledge, check out his faq's thread at the top of q&a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277892
I like to test out multiple roms. Their wad a viper Rom on another device I didn't care for. I used mik or something like that

I've been rocking the Google play edition Rom by team nocturnal and I love it. Very stable.
Learn and become familiar with how to root, flash, etc and most importantly RUU.
And most importantly read read read... I try to make it a habit to read posts for like an hour or so before doing anything to my phones even tho I've been doing this since the HTC hero days.

If you're on the latest HBOOT, which is 1.55 I bellieve, then use rumrunner http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496687. I dont think revone has been updated in a while
I used rumrunner to s-off my device with hboot 1.55. Also check out team d3rp SuperBLUE Rom , it's my favorite so far and I've flashed almost all the others.

Awesome thank you guys for the help. im going to try rumrunner now.
edit: ok I managed to get adb working on my win8 but I think I need constant internet connection. I was using WiFi tether because my work doesnt supply WiFi which is bogus for Wal-Mart.....
ok so Rumrunner is not working. ive redownloaded it on 2 PC's and it ends up saying i need to download a updated package on rumrunner. any tips would be awesome.
I think you need adb and fastboot working. And one windows 8.1 had had problems getting the duvets for those working. I'm not sure if there is a fix or workaround for it add I am still on windows 7. But that might help with your tracking down the problem.

HTC One (M8) Assistance

Hi guys, I'm long time reader first time poster. I usually like to blaze my own trails, but I think it's time I got some help. I have a HTC One (M7), it is or was rooted. running android 4.3. It's an O2 Ireland phone. Any other details you need quiz me!
The problem I am having is that I have wiped the OS off the phone (foolishly) while playing around TWRP. I have been trying to sideload a stock ROM (4.4.2 stock T-Mobile) onto my device in attempt to save the day, alas could not.
I won't try to pretend like I know what I'm doing, infact I know very little about android... So.
Could some kind individual please step me through what I need to do before I do more damage? Thanks in advance!

If you don't care about loosing your data, flash an RUU which will re-install your OS, but wipe everything else. Your title says M8, but your post says M7. If you have an M8, just use an sdcard to put the tmobile rom zip on and flash it using twrp. If you have an M7, that isn't an option.
Just search around for instructions and downloads for the RUU files.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. I have an M7. That is why this is sort of above my skill level. Backups never bother me. As for RUUs? Does it have to be an O2 RUU for my O2 phone or can it just be an RUU of another network? I'm finding it hard to get my hands on the particular one I need. Yeah you do need to flash the RUU that has the same CID (carrier) as your phone. This works if you're on O2.
