I was having problems with the 3D Gallery using 100% of cpu, so i uninstall with titanium backup, (rooted of course), I recomend you test BOCA RC1, for me and many other is the fastest rom for our tabs, you need to email dizgustipated to get it, or you can use overcome (search it in developers section), has several tweaks and is smooth, There´s and app called System Tuner Pro, you can prevent apps run in the background, even system apps, and unistall apps if you want.
I hope this solve your problems.

[Q] how to make my galaxy s run faster??

Im sorry for opening this new thread as maybe someone already post it before.
but i really upset with my slow phone... anyone could help how to make it fast?
maybe a complete step to fix this problem?
Install the voodoo lagfix (look in the application development section for the project voodoo link)
and download a task / memory manager like ATK to improve RAM availability. Easiest way is to get one that has the auto kill function but its a personal preference to most people.
1) lagfix
2) minfree adjustment (autokiller or minfreemanager, both available free in market)
3) stock apps cleanup, ones u don't use.
4) don't install more than 150 apps.
5) don't install many apps that need to run in background.

I have more than 150 apps and i only use AutoKiller without any other fix, and the phone is really fast!

[Q] Add more RAM to SGS ? Is it possible?

Hi everyone,
I have this phone SGS i9000 but i am constantly running out of memory. Now i got the new Sims game which uses so much ram... Many times the device just starves for ram and reboots itself...
Is it possible to add more HARDWARE ram to this device?
I use Darky roms on my device and checked if i can enable some sort of swap but it is not possible or reasonable...

it's almost impossible without soldering knowledge and a LOT of investigation
just forget a bout it
How would you add this to the PCB? I don't think there is any space left. This is not plug and play, more an embedded device. And how about the other hardware? You also need additional controllers and such things.
--> Impossible.
If you want extra ram you have to buy a new phone
What about swap memory?
hm.. i9000 is realy a low ram device.. i sell my sgs and buy a sgs2 .. a great device
my girlfrend have also 500mb ram device, she use "rammanager root" (search @play-store) it have nice settings and work realy good..
try the demo/trail.. use hardcore game mode for the sims maybe it helps a little bit

Nope, 329MB is user accessable, 128MB is reserved for the graphics card. 55MB is inaccessible because it prevents the device from freezing up when ram is near full.
I will never buy device with less then 2GB of RAM anymore then!
Give the poor device a break, its old already.
Mate I'm running a tsunami ROM in my sgs and it has an 392mb of ROM. And this solved all my ram problems
Tried zRam?
I have an S plus (nearly the same) and i have 358mb of RAM..
Wtf guys this was posted in March, why did you revive this thread?

Hi,
Replying really late , but there is a possible way >> check below -
What advantages of increasing ram on Galaxy S
Running multiple number of application at background.
Games will run smooth without any lagging.
Clear the ram memory to make your device faster.
How to Get More Ram on Galaxy S Cyanogenmod CM10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and CM 9 ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM.
Make sure that your custom rom is loaded with devil kernel or not. For that you can check Go to Settings->About Phone. Scroll down there you can see kernel version of present rom.
Note: So if your custom rom is loaded with different kernel then you need to change it into devil kernel version.
1. Download below zip files based on your Android OS.
For ICS get here.(file name Devil3_1.0.3-ICS_i9000_CFS_BLN_CMC_20120724.zip and you can also check latest kernel version and download it)
For JB get here. ( file version 1.0.4)
2. Copy the zip file into phone sd card.
3. Turn off the device and boot into recovery mode. For that you need to press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power button together.
4. When you enter into clockworkmod recovery mode. Select the “install zip from sd card” choose the kernel zip file which you copied earlier in your phone sd card storage.
5. The kernel flashing process will take 1 min. After that reboot the device. That’s it done now your device is fully working with devil kernel.
Note: The Above process is only for who don’t have devil kernel in their Custom Rom. If you’re custom rom is already loaded with devil kernel that you can avoid above process.
Follow below steps:
1. Download devil kernel config app from Google Play here or you can get apk from here.
2. After installing the app on Galaxy S device. Go to app list section there you can see an icon with devil logo and of that app is devil kernel configure.
2. Open the application there you can get Ram Settings Option.
3. Click on it and it will show you three options of ram CM9 368 MB, XL 391 MB and last one big mem 403 Mb. Select Big mem 403 MB to make it done.
4. On the top right side. Click on setup and it will ask you to save the ram settings.
5. When you finalized the settings it indicates to restart the phone in order to make the changes.
6. After rebooting the device. Open the task manager there you will get 403 MB of Ram.
Finally you unlocked more ram on Galaxy S Device running Cyanogenmod 10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM.
Rgds,
Kaustav.
You can use swapper from the Google play.
Swapper create a file .swap on your sdcard and this is the RAM :fingers-crossed:
I have samsung galaxy s plus, cyanogenmod 10-20121226-ivendor-alpha6-ariesve, android version 4.1.2, kernel version [email protected] #112...how can i install this devil kernel to increase memory ram to 403? Forgot to mention that i have JellyBean

This is not really a viable option...
The flash drive is infinitely slower compared to RAM.
Any game demanding more RAM than can be accessed without writing to/from swap would be unplayable.

Rom: Mackay rom 4.9.14 (4.4.4 kitkat)
Kernel: 3.0.101-KK44-x-aries-cma
Ram: 415MB
Lack of RAM is what made me upgrade from this glorious phone to the S4.
As time went by, Android apps got bigger and heavier, making the Galaxy S unusuable alas.

Rooted, whats next?

Try out some good roms
Also have some hands on some apps which requires root access here
First install CWM and then find some awesome ROMs and install them!
Install a custom kernel (Battery Extender i think is the best available for stock rom) and a cpu controll app. Than mod the build.prop file in system to get better overall performance. Also you can install Adrenaline Engine or other script to improve performance.
Inviato dal mio GT-S5830
If you want to stay on your stock rom for a bit longer:
-> getting rid of all the Samsung bloatware and all the unnecessary apps that are clogging up the phone.
You might even notice a boost in responsiveness by doing that, at least it seemed that way to me back in the day.
Use Titanium Backup to do so and look up what apps are save to delete before (!!).
From memory some safe-to-delete apps are: all of samsung apps, gallery (replace it first), radio, sms app (if you replace it first), browser (replace it first)
Partition your sd card if you have one and use that partition to increase your internal memory.

high ram or something else is hindering my phone performance

I am using note(n7000) and on stock xxlt9 firmware. This is the smoothest firmware released from samsung till date(un branded). I have removed many of the bloats by samungs and hong into root i have cleared 100 mb of space...( believe me,apks are placed at many places). Still my phone lags. My ram usage is above 80% always...i hardly get 150mb off free ram. I use greenify toh hibernate maximum apps. I don't know whats happening...and pls dont say that free ram=wasted ram...that means u havnt used android properly. I tried my custom roms based on touch wiz and others, bit none of then suited me. Yesterday i flashed cyanogenmod 10.1.3 and its working like charm...ram usage is almost the same...or i may b getting 20% extra...but phone is buttry smooth . But i am having one confusion. Suppose i open xda website in default browser
Then i open some other website in chrome, then whatsapp then fileexplorer. But now when i go to default browser that xda website is still open...wow to my surprise. That never happend in my android experience. While on the other hand, on touch wiz xda website will reload . Why is it so?
When my ram usage is hig and i play game it lags....although game itself clear outs ram but still it lags...i had to revert back to touch wiz from CM because i am too addicted to features line multi window, s pen gestures, pop up play and others. But is it possible to have that performance of cm in touch wiz?

Download this one, try to flash it with mobile odin, if you dont know that program.Find it, download it and intall it to your device, run it .Then:
1->locate the open file option (be sure you unzip the file you downloaded (the rom) because if not mobile odin wont recognise it.
2->A popup saying a couple of files were loaded will prompt, just type ok
3->Scroll down a bit and make sure the 3 or 2 root options (dont remember correctly) are ticked ,so that the flashed rom will be already rooted.
4->Finally start flashing,(remember to have more thank 50% battery when doing so, just in case so nothing can go wrong.
After flashing the rom you will need to flash the helloworld kernel, and if you flashed speedmod im sure you know how to do it, if not shout me and i will show you .

Our camera is not so good, so it doesn't take good photos or videos.
Can you detail more, what you mean by bad performance when seeing video? Lag ?
Thanks for your answer,
Yes, very often when i want to take a picture have to wait 30 s or a min. untill it's ready, and sometime it stop working and i need to restart app, when watch a video i alway have lags etc...
it's really frustrating.
I use clean master to also check memory usage and i always see that the minumum used memory is 85% or 90%, is there a way to free up some?

Strange. Camera should take a pic in max 5 seconds. Don't use clean master or any other app which "free ram", also don't install antiviruses (are not really useful) or apps which "save battery". These apps consume more battery and consume ram.
1) AOSP by JTeam. Has good battery backup, but also performance. It is based on 4.4.4 kitkat. It is pure android like Nexus one. If you need customisation options use Xposed Modules. If you want to install this rom, install this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54147880&postcount=961 because it is latest.
2) Sami OS v1.2 + cocore kernel v8.2 = same like aosp. SamiOS is based on jb 4.1.2.
3) Stock JB Debloated + cocore kernel v8.2 (i recommend UBLPK firmware).
Note that Cocore 8.2 doesn't have overclock / undervolting, but is most stable in my opinion. You can flash newer version if you need overclock.
I'm using AOSP by JTeam since 1month, i installed many apps and it still running smooth. But you also need to care of every rom.
Sami OS v1.2 ... Very good rom and it will always be my favorite 4.1.2 rom.
Some tips:
1) Use Greenify app. You find it in google play. It let you frezee apps which you are not using and them stay closed until you open them again.
2) Use SDMaid app, is in google play too. It can free some memory (not ram) of your phone.
3) Wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery if rom become laggy.
Thanks a lot!
it's really helpfull.
