I bricked my x8, flash tool didnt help. please help me out - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys ,
i had the cmmini mod 7 that was realsed by cm dev team and for some reason i decided to get rire of it and try the latest mini cm7 2.1.5 listed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
i didnt run the the nAa kernal befolre instalation and my phone was stuck at the spining logo. after flashing with x10 flasher i was able to boot into the OS but my celluar didnt work ( att us ) basicly i had wifi but my sim card was recocnized but couldnt connect to the towers
I tried to use Xrecovery included in that ROM to reflash and clear userdata/Cache but the SD card wouldnt mount.
I tried using shell to mount Sd card and Chmod 777 it, it seemed sucsesful but Xrecovery was unable to mount ones again....
Sony Erricson's tool doesnt recocnize my phone, i get a "no firmware avaliable yet" message so i am stuck with x10 flasher for now.
i am able to use x10 flasher and use this guide to get into an OS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12442257#post12442257
but after many flashes i was sucessful but the says model number E15i, but behinde battery it says 15A which is not good. , im on firmware 1.6 not 2.1
and kernel is listed 2.6.26 [email protected] , baseband is listed as unknown.
i was hoping to root, then install busy box and Xrecovery with CWmod then be able to flash using zip file but superclick says i am rooted and busy box instalation from market place and WIFI says it doesnt have root acess.
At this point this is what i am asuming:
i updated the wrong baseband and thats why i couldnt connect to my carrier and unlocked bootloader is messing up the sony erricson software. i have tried flashing so many difffrent versions i probably have lots of confused firmwares working toghter. at this point i think i will exhaust the flash write cycle in next few days
so far i am unsusesful in finding correct 15A 2.1 stock ROM, and correct baseband. they are lots of Zip files but non that are .TFT that the x10 flasher can read.
in extensive search on XDA i found this link with lots of firmwares and basebands
http://www.mediafire.com/?d3pobqqc3py66
no luck so far
please help me , i never been so confused in my life
i have the Android SDK ready to go with all updates in case some shell push pulling is nessesary. any recovery APK i try downbload with QR scaner fails because i am on android 1.6

Wouldn't've happened with reading before doing ...
The E15i baseband is for the regions according to European GSM/UMTS standards.
The E15a baseband is for regions according to Northern American GSM/UMTS standards.
If you flashed your phone with the E15i baseband it's not exactly a great wonder that you can't connect "to the tower" (or mobile network, which would be the way better term). To make the phone work in the US you need to flash the E15a baseband.
Anyway, at first you better get yerself Flashtool 0.2.9.1.
The newer 0.5.x.x versions really didn't do it for me.
Then you get yerself the E15a version 015 baseband FTF file.
Once you got the right baseband you download the SEMC Stock Android 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF file.
Extract Flashtool to C:\Flashtool and put the .FTF files into C:\Flashtool\Firmwares.
Power off your X8, start Flashtool, select the baseband FTF as the first file you want to flash and then connect your phone in Flash-Mode as Flashtool tells you.
Once you flashed the correct baseband you repeat the procedure with the actual Android OS FTF.
When done you should have a working, and booting, Stock ROM on your phone again.
If it worked - Flashtool can root your phone and inject xRecovery.
EDIT: The ROM is not exactly related to the baseband. While there ARE Flashtool bundles that contain the baseband, the 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF I linked you above does NOT come with a baseband - that's why you need to download that one extra and flash it first.

Oops, ignore

Sony Ericsson Update Service
You can simply use SEUS to recover your bricked X8.

IT seems to be the bootloader i was able to find a copy of the original Xrecoery back up and i still have no service.
bootloader's intertuctions were complied step by step, but appereantly didnt help me.
SEUS reports nothing to update just like companion software

If you try in SEUS you need to proceed like you would do in Flashtool ... Turn the phone OFF, make sure it is NOT connected to the computer (though, let the USB attached to the phone), trigger the "Repair" function and connect the phone in Flash-Mode (HOLDING the Back button while connecting the phone to the computer) when SEUS asks you to.

Strange ... I used the 2.1.1.C.0.0 file I linked you to recovery my X8 just a few weeks ago. Things worked out perfectly; no "Exclamation mark" or whatever else.
Unless one the FTFs got broken during the download it should work.

You have to unlock the bootLoader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
then flash the suitable kernel
then flash the rom u prefer
miniCM7.1.5 needs nAa kernel ( i think )
and thanks " B.Jay " for the inf.

You can try Wotan Client for repair...Google it

thanks for many replies
SEUS didnt work for me in FLASH mode. i was however able to use a rom that SEUS reconzised as 2.0 XXXXX and updated and repaired.
Unfornatley the sim card still wont register. I belive something in the bootloader process messed up my device.
I can see the carrier under manual mode, but when pressing ATT it takes about 1 minute and says " cannot register this sim on network" i tried with another SIM same issue.
Do u guys have any ideas of what i should do? i am on a windows phone from 7 years ago and i am too broke to buy a phone. At this point i am willing to try anything because sony errison USA support sucks they told me it can take a month for me to even know if they will repair it and when i can have the phone back
THANK YOU ALL!

Relocking bootloader will fix this but you cant able to install custom kernels...
But remember relock the bootloader only if you are on stock kernel..

Assuming you meanwhile managed to flash the required E15a baseband the question would be ...
The SIM you're using - did you previously activate the SIM on the X8 with the default stock firmware or did you pull the SIM out of another phone and simply put it into the X8?
In the first case (phone and SIM got activated before you ran into problems) it should work; at least I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't. In the second case (SIM from some old phone put into the X8) you need to call ATT and have them activate the new SIM/phone combination. I'm pretty sure they won't be happy with you as they don't have much love for "3rd party" devices not containing the ATT customizations.

I format the system of my Sony X8
I format the system of my Sony X8 with the Xrecovery and now when I reboot, I'm only getting the Sony Ericsson logo.
How can I repair the X8 smartphone? with flashtool and generic firmware?
where can I find that software?

You can use SEUS to repair your phone link: http://sony-ericsson-update-service.en.uptodown.com/ . The flashtool only works when you have your bootloader unlocked which i dont think you do link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 . Really?
Well, in this case I assume my X8 must possess special powers as I restored through Flashtool with a LOCKED boot loader (which, according to what you wrote, is deemed impossible).
Now... to make sense...
You can ONLY restore a Flashtool ROM image that doesn't contain the "baseband" (read: the Stock Kernel and related parts) for as long as the boot loader is locked.
However, there are some Stock 2.1 ROM images (such as the 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF) for the X8 that only contain the ROM but not the "baseband" part - that one can be easily flashed with locked boot loaders (of course you have to run on the Stock Kernel ... if not, then the boot loader is unlocked anyway and flashing back a fully-contained FTF, or the separate baseband FTF, isn't a problem either).
Also note that if the "Repair" function of PC Companion just throws a "No update available" message you'll have to resort to Flashtool.
EDIT: As for the recommendation to unlock the boot loader ... this is lacking that sweet little WARNING that trying to unlock a X8/W8 made at 11W29, or later, will turn the device into hard brick at a 99% probability. Find the "Warning ahead of bootloader unlock" thread and read up on it.
To check if your phone would be safe for boot loader unlocking: Turn off the phone, take out the battery, look at the sticker below ... and if it's at, or past, 11W29 (Week 29 of 2011) then you well better don't even try.

You can only flash stock kernels and stock ROMs on a locked bootloader! Why would you confuse someone who clearly hasn't a clue. SEUS will apply the lastest update hence restoring a bricked phone. You went into flashing a stock ROM with no links or nothing to backup what you are saying. If i was new to this i wouldnt even look at your post because it wouldnt make any sense. You have "baseband" also in your post and not explaining what a baseband is. Even if someone HARDBRICKS you can still restore the phone. You just need the balls to open your phone or send it off to someone who will. YOU CAN NEVER REALLY BRICK A PHONE!! His main question was "where can I find that software?". Edit your post slowface!

Oh wow ... seems the one having no idea is rather you.
Well, here's the file collection out of my backups on Minus as I'm too lazy to dig up the threads for you...
SEMC Stock 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF (no baseband)
SEMC X8 E15i Baseband 015 FTF
SEMC X8 E15a Baseband 015 FTF
SEMC Stock Kernel 2.6.29 FTF (Kernel ONLY!)
Here's your proof that there's a Stock ROM FTF you can flash into a locked boot loader X8 simply because it does not contain the baseband/kernel ... they are extra downloads (i.e. for restoring back to Stock from a custom Kernel).
I also linked the barenaked Kernel without the baseband parts, just to show you that even this thing exists.
The next time you try to play smart ass do your research first - you will find the things I linked above right here in ancient threads.
Anyway, I don't feel like I need to explain myself to you.

Why are you trying to explain to me something i already know and dont care about. I just told you to put up the links of where he can download stock roms and kernels. Thanks for nothing

[Q] HELP X8 resets and won't accept any firmware but 1.6 SOLVED By samyeung97hk

Please help a desperate x8 fellow!!!
The thing is like this:
My black X8 has been working great so far, I've realy abused it, installed 2.2 then 2.3 roms then factory reset it and then modified the stock rom till it was custom... but one day I "accidentally" onporpouse... (long story) FORMATED SYSTEM...
I know thats very stupidumb but well... so it won't allow me to install anything but 1.6, did this from flashtool pccompanion wont repair it: "there is no update for your phone yet, check later" or something, same with SEUS, rooted 1.6, installed Xrecovery, tried 2.1 stock roms and nothing it just enters loop restarts.
Im beggining to grow some love for 1.6 and that is just wrong... can somebody help me? PLEASE.
More info: the screen in "sony-ericcson" logo not the animated one and brightnes is very dimmed like 10% or so.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
You can use pccompanion to repair your x8
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
ThankU
Thanks for the quick answer,
Already try that via update and repair phone (phone in flash mode), also with SEUS none of those worked for my, I'm guessing I messed with something that cannot be detected by pccompanion since it tells me "there is no update for your phone yet keep trying" or some thing like that.
But my real worries began when even xrecovery could give me back my precious 2.1 backup, I have a backup for the stock rom and one from a moment i consider the phone was running smootly, but none boots just loop-restarts.
Maybe there is something Im Missing, Would win xp make a diference in the repairing process? since my main pc is on win7.
Sorry for the messy english.
Thanks in advance.

Download the baseband 015 for your device,
Flash it via flashtool.
Be careful,if your device is x8i,dont flash x8a's baseband.
Thanks a lot¡¡¡
THAT WORKED¡¡¡ IT WAS THE BASEBAND AFTER ALL.
Man thank u very much¡¡¡ RELLY where is the thanks buton I press that will give u a brand new ferrari?
Just Flashed the baseband ftf file with flastool and installed 2.1(W8 rom actualy... It works great again.
I hope this tread will help those in need.
LESSON LEARNED:
DO NOT FORMAT SYSTEM
ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS OF EVERYTHING YOU PLAY WITH
READ ABOUT BASEBAND BEFORE FREAKING OUT
ALWAYS WITH A CONDOM...
REALLY THANKS A LOOOOOTTTTTT.
IN XDA WE TRUST.

[HELP] X8 Stuck at sony logo

Yesterday i tried to flash the latest minicm. The instructions in the thread told that i should flash a kernel first. I didnt and went ahead to flash the minicm. I flashed it and rebooted my device. The phone wouldnt open and is still stuck at the sony logo. I removed battery and tried to flash the kernel with with flashtool in flashmode but i was getting an error and couldnt flash it. I cant either open recovery by clicking the back button. I searched through some threads about bricked phones and i downloaded pc companion but couldnt work it out. I havent tried SEUS yet. Any ideas? Please answer asap
There are a lot of threads talking about stuck at SE logo.
Use SEUS. It's the best option you got
strange PCC didn't work for you... Did you opt for the "repair phone" option?? If not, opt for that and continue.... Worked for me.

After you boot Pc Companion, there's a "Support Zone" in the menu. Click on Begin/Start. Then click "Update Phonesoftware" and in the bottom there is "Repair your phone". Click on it and try those steps. They worked for me.
p.s, everything within "" quotes are translated from Dutch to English, they can be named otherwise in your version of pcc

At first latest minicm7 need nAa kernel. If u want little bit older version 2.0.7 (Android 2.3.5) i can upload for u , its working with stock kernel so u dont have to flash the kernel. Second is that if u want flash the kernel first must have unlocked bootloader (i think u dont have that unlocked).
At first resort ur phone using SEUS or PCC

I was using it to unlock my bootloader , before u try unlocking ur bootloader read carefully the thread !: BEFORE YOU EVEN TRY ANYTHING, TAKE OUT YOUR BATTERY COVER, TAKE OUT YOUR BATTERY, AND CHECK YOUR MANUFACTORING DATE. IF IT IS 11W29 OR ABOVE, DO NOT TRY THIS AS IT WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE.
If ur phone is after 11W29 dont even try do it. But dont worry , i have minicm7 2.0.7 which works on stock so u can pm me
Ok phone works fine. I will search for threads on how to unlock bootloaders and attempt to do some stuff but always with caution. I will also pm you if i need anythign thanks for the help guys

[Q] X8 after rooting & factory reset, stuck on "desktop"

So I got myself into really funny situation I'm stuck.
I worked with xperia mini pro everything was fine.
Now I got x8 well older one... And all i did was rooted it with flashtool.
Everything was working fine from that point with root rights like root uninstaller (I just tested didn't deleted anything).
And then I made "factory reset" Deletes everything from sd card and bla bla bla well you guys know what i mean.
After that I wanted to install kernel but it's not that easy. So I first read alot and did not do that. Since it would require bootloader unlock and thats pain with 11W29.
So just after factory rest somehow I bricked my phone...
But it's interesting brick... VERY INTERESTING.
It turns on, it has flash mode. I can update it via update setup and tried to do that.
Nothing helps all I get is :
phone loading normally, then there is no menu, not sony ericsson home, not go launcher, no settings available no nothing...
To explain my problem i will upload screenshot.
And I can't flash it now since it's not bootloader unlocked.
And I can't access anything from phone.
This is what you call hard brick?
Hard brick is when You can't turn on phone, so there isn't any way to install ROM again. In Your case it's strange soft brick, cause it looks like ther isn't any launcher If You can enter into flash mode than You should reinstall stock ROM and kernel using flashtool (with version 0.2.9.1 cause it's more stable with older devices, such as x8).
Its not bricked. / You can use android commander to push recovery.
It's stock already and I tried stock launcher via updatesetup of SE,
And I think i need bootloader unlock to flash it ? or I'm wrong.
And Later on i will try with older version of flashtools
thx for answers guys.
No, unlocked bootloader allows You to install custom kernels, but some ROMs works also with stock SE kernel, so You don't have to unlock bootloader to install custom ROM or back to stock ROM
So i'm back again on same problem....
I have a Question if you wanna flash phone from flashmode u don't have to have unknown sources and debugging turned on.
Since i can't do that...
My following actions :
I will try to install fresh win7 32bit, since now i'm on 64 and on this system i was working with mini pro xperia, so maybe that may be the case...
I'll try to flash it with older version of flashtools 0.2.9.1 I guess if i remember it right (but on this windows OS It gives me : Error Flashing. aborted)
And I installed flashtools drivers and everything i'm 100% sure of that.
What I tried :
I also tried flashing it from Linux / ubuntu . same as with windows i get :
Error flashing. Aborted.
PCC gives me error when i try to repair it.
Update Service Dose everything as normal but same problem remains I don't get launcher or something just that empty desktop
And I would love you guys if you would give me few links to stock firmware of
x8 11W29 / E15i
And if you have something else to suggest please help me ;D

No luck with sus. Tell me more about flashtool, I don't know a lot about it.
you need to download flashtool. its here in the xperia forum or googling "xperia flashtool" should give you what you need. then you need an ftf file of the firmware for your phone. again you should be able to find it here. go to c:/flashtool/drivers (on your pc) to install the adb drivers for your phone. use flashtool (from power off holding volume - anf plugging in to usb) to flash the ftf for your phone (67 fw preferred) and if you used the right ftf file for your phone (shoot download a few so you can play Round) it should reset like brand new.

[Q] SIM-card(s) not readable

I've got a more or less big problem. My Xperia SP cannot recognize, that my SIM-card is inserted. If I turn it on it doesn't ask for the PIN and furthermore I can't receive or send SMS's, I can't receive calls or call somebody and I haven't got mobile data. I tried to insert my SIM-card in another sony phone and it didn't work. I also put another working SIM-card in my phone and it also couldn't recognize it. I think (I'm actually sure) it's caused by the non-functional phone apk, but maybe also the SIM-card is broken.
What shall I do? I have a TWRP backup, but I'm not 100% sure, whether it is from before or after. What is a less- or non-risky possibility to replace the phone.apkor is there a better method to repair the phone?
edit: I found out, if my phone is turned on and I remove the SIM-card, it realizes it, and reboots.
Please help me!
???
Sorry, but why is my post ticked with a hook??? The problem isn't solved yet!
Get a new sim card.. This will fix most simcard issues

First of All thanks for your reply. But I already took another SIM-card (which on Xperia L works fine) and put it into my device but there were the same problems. Yesterday I downloaded the SemcPhone.apk file, pushed it to /system/app and changed permissions to rw-r--r-- and rebooted. Then it asked for the PIN but after unlocking I got a bunch of Force closes and they didn't stop.. Even after rebooting again I had the problem, so I deleted the apk file again. But it's now the same like I described there above :/
Reflash ROM.. You have phone.apk problems aswell so this should fix it
Okay.. And the stock ROM, is this the "Deodexed stock ROM" (777MB) from android development or the "normal" stock ROM (odexed) (12.0.A.2.245) also from android development section?
No, to prevent any issues just open Sony Update Service (can be downloaded from the Sony website) and "restore" your phone..
So go back to full stock
Okay cool thank you I'll try it

The last version of Sony Update Service misses the XSP.
I have contacted Sony Mobile to point this out. Untill we recieve a new update you need to use the PC Companion to restore your phone or you need to use Flashtool

Okay, then I'll do that
:/
I tried it with PC Companion but when it had to start repairing and it booted the phone into flashmode (I think so, because the LED was green) and then PC Companion said: "The phone contains modified software, which cannot be updated" and below "Error 2003" ..
I tried it 2 times and both the same :/
My phone has unlocked bootloader, is rooted, and has the DoomKernel, no custom rom.

Well that is unfortunate. You need to relock bootloader and reflash with flashtool.
You cannot use Sony software with unlocked bootloader

Oh! That's actually bad. But then I first have to flash back the stock kernel, then relock bootloader, repair with PC Companion and eventually unlock Bootloader again if necessary for me, right? Just for being sure.
Yes correct you need stock kernel then lock bootloader, then re flash/repair phone

Ok good. Now the last question: from where can I get the right stock kernel? I found a post from DoomLoRD, where he wrote, that you have to flash stock kernel.sin and no FTF kernel but I couldn't find a stock kernel.sin and in another post from alivanov79, alivanov79 posted a link to an FTF kernel. So Do you know which one is the right one?

Hello! I hope you're still alive!
I am facing the same problem, but before I start doing stuff, may I know if your problem has been solved?
My Xperia SP as well on occassion doesn't detected sim card. Sometimes when I need to make phone calls the most, it starts to do it. I am planning to send it for warranty, as I am having another 20 days before the warranty expires.
Surprisingly, many Sony Xperia models users have experience of having a phone that doesn't read SIM cards. Google reveals it all.

Hey,
yeah, I'm still alive
So, the thing is, my problem there had been caused by myself, fiddling around with some root stuff, so it hadn't been my phone's fault.
But what I did is I just flashed another ROM because I didn't see another solution and it really drove me crazy not being able to use the SIM card related functions.
Well, keeping your post in mind I don't think you'd like to flash another ROM (I probably shouldn't have done that, too).
So if you didn't already try to repair your phone with PC Companion, that'd be the first thing, I'd do in your case.
Otherwise I'd send it for warranty as you considered it already.
Yeah, my sister's Xperia L also has that problem and that's really unfortunate.
So I hope, my "advide" could help at least a bit although there may not be plenty of hints, but yeah.
If I shocked you with that essay I'm sorry, too

Lol I don't think ROM flashing is the root problem, as I have been using CM11 for a month (and maybe more). The problem starts appearing lately..
I will flash stock ROM and relock bootloader and then reflash stock via PCC to see if it will fix the problem
Anyway thanks for the reply!
No, that's not even something to be called "essay"....
