[Q] Proces system not responding + bootloop - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I need a help with my sony xperia Z. After normal using all the suddenly my xperia frozed. After a reboot the real problem started. I got the message that proces system is not responding, than after 1 minute the phone automaticly reboot.
Some informations:
I live in Europe, the phone was bought in USA in offical sony web store.
The warranty is still on, but I must send it to USA, but that is over 70$ of costs for oneway shipment.
ANdroid version: 4.2.2
model: c6602
Thing that i allready did:
Red a lot of forum pages till now, without help.
Used PC companion to "repair" phone; things got only worse (no menu, black screen, still rebooting, ...)
I tried to unlock bootloader but i didn't succeeded, i can't even look if I can unlock the bootloader in the hidden menu.
I don't know a lot about flashing the device or other things. I will appreciate your help.
Sorry for bad english.

Or with flashtool, but try it first with SUS.
Quote me if you tryed it(you will become faster help by me). I become only notification if someone quotes me

No luck with sus. Tell me more about flashtool, I don't know a lot about it.

you need to download flashtool. its here in the xperia forum or googling "xperia flashtool" should give you what you need. then you need an ftf file of the firmware for your phone. again you should be able to find it here. go to c:/flashtool/drivers (on your pc) to install the adb drivers for your phone. use flashtool (from power off holding volume - anf plugging in to usb) to flash the ftf for your phone (67 fw preferred) and if you used the right ftf file for your phone (shoot download a few so you can play Round) it should reset like brand new.

Hey guys ,
i had the cmmini mod 7 that was realsed by cm dev team and for some reason i decided to get rire of it and try the latest mini cm7 2.1.5 listed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
i didnt run the the nAa kernal befolre instalation and my phone was stuck at the spining logo. after flashing with x10 flasher i was able to boot into the OS but my celluar didnt work ( att us ) basicly i had wifi but my sim card was recocnized but couldnt connect to the towers
I tried to use Xrecovery included in that ROM to reflash and clear userdata/Cache but the SD card wouldnt mount.
I tried using shell to mount Sd card and Chmod 777 it, it seemed sucsesful but Xrecovery was unable to mount ones again....
Sony Erricson's tool doesnt recocnize my phone, i get a "no firmware avaliable yet" message so i am stuck with x10 flasher for now.
i am able to use x10 flasher and use this guide to get into an OS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12442257#post12442257
but after many flashes i was sucessful but the says model number E15i, but behinde battery it says 15A which is not good. , im on firmware 1.6 not 2.1
and kernel is listed 2.6.26 [email protected] , baseband is listed as unknown.
i was hoping to root, then install busy box and Xrecovery with CWmod then be able to flash using zip file but superclick says i am rooted and busy box instalation from market place and WIFI says it doesnt have root acess.
At this point this is what i am asuming:
i updated the wrong baseband and thats why i couldnt connect to my carrier and unlocked bootloader is messing up the sony erricson software. i have tried flashing so many difffrent versions i probably have lots of confused firmwares working toghter. at this point i think i will exhaust the flash write cycle in next few days
so far i am unsusesful in finding correct 15A 2.1 stock ROM, and correct baseband. they are lots of Zip files but non that are .TFT that the x10 flasher can read.
in extensive search on XDA i found this link with lots of firmwares and basebands
http://www.mediafire.com/?d3pobqqc3py66
no luck so far
please help me , i never been so confused in my life
i have the Android SDK ready to go with all updates in case some shell push pulling is nessesary. any recovery APK i try downbload with QR scaner fails because i am on android 1.6
Wouldn't've happened with reading before doing ...
The E15i baseband is for the regions according to European GSM/UMTS standards.
The E15a baseband is for regions according to Northern American GSM/UMTS standards.
If you flashed your phone with the E15i baseband it's not exactly a great wonder that you can't connect "to the tower" (or mobile network, which would be the way better term). To make the phone work in the US you need to flash the E15a baseband.
Anyway, at first you better get yerself Flashtool 0.2.9.1.
The newer 0.5.x.x versions really didn't do it for me.
Then you get yerself the E15a version 015 baseband FTF file.
Once you got the right baseband you download the SEMC Stock Android 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF file.
Extract Flashtool to C:\Flashtool and put the .FTF files into C:\Flashtool\Firmwares.
Power off your X8, start Flashtool, select the baseband FTF as the first file you want to flash and then connect your phone in Flash-Mode as Flashtool tells you.
Once you flashed the correct baseband you repeat the procedure with the actual Android OS FTF.
When done you should have a working, and booting, Stock ROM on your phone again.
If it worked - Flashtool can root your phone and inject xRecovery.
EDIT: The ROM is not exactly related to the baseband. While there ARE Flashtool bundles that contain the baseband, the 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF I linked you above does NOT come with a baseband - that's why you need to download that one extra and flash it first.
Oops, ignore

You can simply use SEUS to recover your bricked X8.
IT seems to be the bootloader i was able to find a copy of the original Xrecoery back up and i still have no service.
bootloader's intertuctions were complied step by step, but appereantly didnt help me.

If you try in SEUS you need to proceed like you would do in Flashtool ... Turn the phone OFF, make sure it is NOT connected to the computer (though, let the USB attached to the phone), trigger the "Repair" function and connect the phone in Flash-Mode (HOLDING the Back button while connecting the phone to the computer) when SEUS asks you to.

Strange ... I used the 2.1.1.C.0.0 file I linked you to recovery my X8 just a few weeks ago. Things worked out perfectly; no "Exclamation mark" or whatever else.
Unless one the FTFs got broken during the download it should work.
You have to unlock the bootLoader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
then flash the suitable kernel
then flash the rom u prefer
miniCM7.1.5 needs nAa kernel ( i think )
and thanks " B.Jay " for the inf.
You can try Wotan Client for repair...Google it
thanks for many replies
SEUS didnt work for me in FLASH mode. i was however able to use a rom that SEUS reconzised as 2.0 XXXXX and updated and repaired.
Unfornatley the sim card still wont register. I belive something in the bootloader process messed up my device.
I can see the carrier under manual mode, but when pressing ATT it takes about 1 minute and says " cannot register this sim on network" i tried with another SIM same issue.
Do u guys have any ideas of what i should do? i am on a windows phone from 7 years ago and i am too broke to buy a phone. At this point i am willing to try anything because sony errison USA support sucks they told me it can take a month for me to even know if they will repair it and when i can have the phone back
THANK YOU ALL!
Relocking bootloader will fix this but you cant able to install custom kernels...
But remember relock the bootloader only if you are on stock kernel..

Assuming you meanwhile managed to flash the required E15a baseband the question would be ...
The SIM you're using - did you previously activate the SIM on the X8 with the default stock firmware or did you pull the SIM out of another phone and simply put it into the X8?
In the first case (phone and SIM got activated before you ran into problems) it should work; at least I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't. In the second case (SIM from some old phone put into the X8) you need to call ATT and have them activate the new SIM/phone combination. I'm pretty sure they won't be happy with you as they don't have much love for "3rd party" devices not containing the ATT customizations.
I format the system of my Sony X8
I format the system of my Sony X8 with the Xrecovery and now when I reboot, I'm only getting the Sony Ericsson logo.
How can I repair the X8 smartphone? with flashtool and generic firmware?
where can I find that software?

You can use SEUS to repair your phone link: http://sony-ericsson-update-service.en.uptodown.com/ . The flashtool only works when you have your bootloader unlocked which i dont think you do link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 . Really?
Well, in this case I assume my X8 must possess special powers as I restored through Flashtool with a LOCKED boot loader (which, according to what you wrote, is deemed impossible).
Now... to make sense...
You can ONLY restore a Flashtool ROM image that doesn't contain the "baseband" (read: the Stock Kernel and related parts) for as long as the boot loader is locked.
However, there are some Stock 2.1 ROM images (such as the 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF) for the X8 that only contain the ROM but not the "baseband" part - that one can be easily flashed with locked boot loaders (of course you have to run on the Stock Kernel ... if not, then the boot loader is unlocked anyway and flashing back a fully-contained FTF, or the separate baseband FTF, isn't a problem either).
Also note that if the "Repair" function of PC Companion just throws a "No update available" message you'll have to resort to Flashtool.
EDIT: As for the recommendation to unlock the boot loader ... this is lacking that sweet little WARNING that trying to unlock a X8/W8 made at 11W29, or later, will turn the device into hard brick at a 99% probability. Find the "Warning ahead of bootloader unlock" thread and read up on it.
To check if your phone would be safe for boot loader unlocking: Turn off the phone, take out the battery, look at the sticker below ... and if it's at, or past, 11W29 (Week 29 of 2011) then you well better don't even try.

You can only flash stock kernels and stock ROMs on a locked bootloader! Why would you confuse someone who clearly hasn't a clue. SEUS will apply the lastest update hence restoring a bricked phone. You went into flashing a stock ROM with no links or nothing to backup what you are saying. If i was new to this i wouldnt even look at your post because it wouldnt make any sense. You have "baseband" also in your post and not explaining what a baseband is. Even if someone HARDBRICKS you can still restore the phone. You just need the balls to open your phone or send it off to someone who will. YOU CAN NEVER REALLY BRICK A PHONE!! His main question was "where can I find that software?". Edit your post slowface!

Oh wow ... seems the one having no idea is rather you.
Well, here's the file collection out of my backups on Minus as I'm too lazy to dig up the threads for you...
SEMC Stock 2.1.1.C.0.0 FTF (no baseband)
SEMC X8 E15i Baseband 015 FTF
SEMC X8 E15a Baseband 015 FTF
SEMC Stock Kernel 2.6.29 FTF (Kernel ONLY!)
Here's your proof that there's a Stock ROM FTF you can flash into a locked boot loader X8 simply because it does not contain the baseband/kernel ... they are extra downloads (i.e. for restoring back to Stock from a custom Kernel).
I also linked the barenaked Kernel without the baseband parts, just to show you that even this thing exists.
The next time you try to play smart ass do your research first - you will find the things I linked above right here in ancient threads.
Anyway, I don't feel like I need to explain myself to you.

[Q] SIM-card(s) not readable

I've got a more or less big problem. My Xperia SP cannot recognize, that my SIM-card is inserted. If I turn it on it doesn't ask for the PIN and furthermore I can't receive or send SMS's, I can't receive calls or call somebody and I haven't got mobile data. I tried to insert my SIM-card in another sony phone and it didn't work. I also put another working SIM-card in my phone and it also couldn't recognize it. I think (I'm actually sure) it's caused by the non-functional phone apk, but maybe also the SIM-card is broken.
What shall I do? I have a TWRP backup, but I'm not 100% sure, whether it is from before or after. What is a less- or non-risky possibility to replace the phone.apkor is there a better method to repair the phone?
edit: I found out, if my phone is turned on and I remove the SIM-card, it realizes it, and reboots.
Please help me!
???
Sorry, but why is my post ticked with a hook??? The problem isn't solved yet!

First of All thanks for your reply. But I already took another SIM-card (which on Xperia L works fine) and put it into my device but there were the same problems. Yesterday I downloaded the SemcPhone.apk file, pushed it to /system/app and changed permissions to rw-r--r-- and rebooted. Then it asked for the PIN but after unlocking I got a bunch of Force closes and they didn't stop.. Even after rebooting again I had the problem, so I deleted the apk file again. But it's now the same like I described there above :/
Reflash ROM.. You have phone.apk problems aswell so this should fix it
Okay.. And the stock ROM, is this the "Deodexed stock ROM" (777MB) from android development or the "normal" stock ROM (odexed) (12.0.A.2.245) also from android development section?
No, to prevent any issues just open Sony Update Service (can be downloaded from the Sony website) and "restore" your phone..
So go back to full stock
Okay cool thank you I'll try it

:/
I tried it with PC Companion but when it had to start repairing and it booted the phone into flashmode (I think so, because the LED was green) and then PC Companion said: "The phone contains modified software, which cannot be updated" and below "Error 2003" ..
I tried it 2 times and both the same :/
My phone has unlocked bootloader, is rooted, and has the DoomKernel, no custom rom.

You cannot use Sony software with unlocked bootloader

Oh! That's actually bad. But then I first have to flash back the stock kernel, then relock bootloader, repair with PC Companion and eventually unlock Bootloader again if necessary for me, right? Just for being sure.
Yes correct you need stock kernel then lock bootloader, then re flash/repair phone

Ok good. Now the last question: from where can I get the right stock kernel? I found a post from DoomLoRD, where he wrote, that you have to flash stock kernel.sin and no FTF kernel but I couldn't find a stock kernel.sin and in another post from alivanov79, alivanov79 posted a link to an FTF kernel. So Do you know which one is the right one?

Hello! I hope you're still alive!
I am facing the same problem, but before I start doing stuff, may I know if your problem has been solved?
My Xperia SP as well on occassion doesn't detected sim card. Sometimes when I need to make phone calls the most, it starts to do it. I am planning to send it for warranty, as I am having another 20 days before the warranty expires.
Surprisingly, many Sony Xperia models users have experience of having a phone that doesn't read SIM cards. Google reveals it all.

Hey,
yeah, I'm still alive
So, the thing is, my problem there had been caused by myself, fiddling around with some root stuff, so it hadn't been my phone's fault.
But what I did is I just flashed another ROM because I didn't see another solution and it really drove me crazy not being able to use the SIM card related functions.
Well, keeping your post in mind I don't think you'd like to flash another ROM (I probably shouldn't have done that, too).
So if you didn't already try to repair your phone with PC Companion, that'd be the first thing, I'd do in your case.
Otherwise I'd send it for warranty as you considered it already.
Yeah, my sister's Xperia L also has that problem and that's really unfortunate.
So I hope, my "advide" could help at least a bit although there may not be plenty of hints, but yeah.
If I shocked you with that essay I'm sorry, too

Lol I don't think ROM flashing is the root problem, as I have been using CM11 for a month (and maybe more). The problem starts appearing lately..
I will flash stock ROM and relock bootloader and then reflash stock via PCC to see if it will fix the problem
Anyway thanks for the reply!

Ok, first of all when I buy the phone Xperia Z (C6603/L36h) it work good, but after few days don't recognize the sim card for good.. I don't know if it mean somethings or if because I cut my sim to microsim but I does for good.. After some reboot it rework without ploblems. So it was a temporary problem (30 mins).. Ok second, I unlocked my bootloader and then I flash this ROM -> PAC-ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208249 this version -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=1774 and then the gapps. All work fine because I does with other phones, after few days the phone start to reboot loop, but after some reboot it end after an hour like.. but start to recognize the sim and not, like he want.. like a mad.. after 1 days start to reboot loop like the video so after bootanimation the phone stay on, but after 30 secs reboot and again and again, I stopped this with POWER+VOL UP. I try to flash these stock because I don't know which use:
1) C6603_10.1.1.A.1.253_GLOBAL_unbranded_LTE -> After This I Try PC COMPANION (So I have to relock the booloader) but nothing SUS too
2) C6603_10.1.A.1.434_UK unbranded -> This won't work like the video so it start and black screen, the app system crash
3) C6603_10.3.1.A.0.244_Generic CE
4) C6603_10.3.1.A.0.244_Generic_DE
5) C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Generic UK
Ok. And now tell me exactly how do you flash with FlashTool.

Yes but you do not need exactly this firmware. Every generic firmware is the same. So you can download generic sweden or generic uk or whatever.
Edit: i think it is a hardware problem. Because you wipe all datas, made a clean flash and that more than once. But wait a bit, maybe a person which had the same prob can say it you. Or go and read a bit in the pac thread.

Yep it is very likely a hardware problem.
As this does not happen to other users.
Rather send your Z™ in repair.

After 1 days of researching Thanks to my SI I found the real original firmware and by another guide I downloaded the firmware by pc companion.. So now the problem is just one.. My sim card if I don't put the sim reboot because still searching, if I put a sim don't recoinize it and say "insert the rim and reboot" but ask me the pin of sim O.O, but if I turn THE FLIGHT MODE don't reboot and the sim work, like I can Import my contacts etc.. so the sim work too, the phone too , what's the problem then? O.O
up
Same issue with me. 1st, no sim error. After few days, its start to shutdown itself. But still can on. After that stuck at sony logo. Maybe radio related issue because it wont shut itself in recovery cwm nor twrp. But if I booting as usual, after several second it shutdown. Btw, production week 13W13

Wrong soft according to IMEI

Hey there i just noticed few things so just to make it clear igot Z from trade S3 for Z i dont have waranty all i have is a box phone and Swedish manuals. Im a bit confused cause box says its C6603 and bottom of the phone says the same C6603 after pressing *#06# imei shows the same as on the box from C6603 but when i go to settings and check device info it says C6602 http://zapodaj.net/bc7beb6231a48.png.html ill upload 2 images to let you guys check whats wrong. http://zapodaj.net/b8d6cd6d7be46.png.html
What makes me wonder how the hell I have C6602 fw in C6603? Any solutions? My phone so far stuck on 4.1.2 can't even update via OTA cause it says my phone got all updates so should I somehow install a proper soft with latest update 4.4 to C6603 or C6602? Im confused since I haven't got those kind of problems with any of my phones.

Bro 6602 firmware can be flashed on 6603 as hardware is nearly identical.
Now to rectify the problem follow the below instructions .
You can download kitkat stock firmware for 6603 from here
Download flashtool to flash firmware from here
How to flash instructions are given below
Download and install the Flashtool
Next go to where you installed flashtool folder in C drive and then to the drivers folder.
Run the Flashtool-drivers.exe file.
Xperia Z drivers, flashmode drivers and fastboot drivers.
Accept all the prompts and once finished load flashtool
Click the thunder button on top left
Now select flashmode
Select the firmware you want to flash
Turn off phone(Hold power and both the volume keys till you feel 3 vibrations)
When it tells you to connect hold down the volume button and connect usb to phone
Flashing will start
After flashing is complete boot the phone
Let me know if help is required dont worry it will not brick your device i had used the same method to update to kitkat
Edit : Keep the firmware ie the ftf file in the firmware folder of flashtool

You wont need to root for flashing :good: don't worry go ahead and happy flashing
PS: Take a data backup as clean flash will wipe all data
I changed my config number to get generic US FW because my phone was running indian FW. Basically if you root, you can modify some text in a configuration file and trick the phone into thinking it's a model that it really isn't. More info here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/how-to-change-si-sony-xperia-z-t2271530
Root is also super easy - Google towel root, it is a recently discovered exploit that allows for one click rooting more or less.

Check Fail error

Hello, XDA community,
Since I couldn't find a thread here discussing this problem, I'm starting one now.
Everytime I start up my phone or whenever it runs out of RAM and tries restarting background services/apps, the "First Time Start" application reappears in the taskbar (it actually is com.sonyericsson.startupflagservice) and then the screen opens up the "Check Fail" screen (image attached). Tried looking at ADB logcat at boot, nothing useful (will try again soon). This problem began occuring since Jan 22, when I first started my phone. The phone is not rooted nor messed with (bootloader still locked). Contacted Sony for that, they suggested the obvious and costly solution, to bring it to them so they could examine and fix it, but is there a manual fix? I want to know exactly what is causing the problem and be able to fix it for myself only, since this phone isn't that popular where I live. I have nothing against Sony fixing it, but most probably they won't even explain what caused it (and it happens for me to be a curious person). The phone is bought at RDE.lt , which is a general tech shop, not a phone vendor, and thus no warranty is given.
To be honest, I would fix this by reflashing the phone, either reflash the current firmware (Country and provider the exact same as before)
Or flash a new firmware which is not buggy. It is known that firmwares are not the same as some of them are buggy mess.

Tried reflashing through Sony PC Companion, no go. If I try FTF flasher, is unlocked bootloader a must? I have flashed ROMs before on Huawei u8160, Sony Xperia X10 mini e10i and Xperia Go st27i, but most of them were custom, so I'm unsure if I have to unlock it now.

Download a firmware from XperiFirm
And flash it with Flashtool
It does not require an unlocked bootloader as it is not a custom ROM
Solution
Hey guys. I got the same problem on 20.1.A.2.13, tried to flash the 20.1.A.2.19 twice, tried factory reset but nothing happened, after starting the phone I always got the Check fail message. The problem is caused by the Startup Flag Service 2 (com.sonyericsson.startupflagservice), but I got a solution for the problem. Because it always shows up after the systemboot, we simply just have to prevent it from running at startup.
I used SD Maid (Pro or simple version doesn't matter). Go to App Control, than type in the search box: "startup", tap on it. Tap on Toggle Autostart Components. After that switch the On to Off and reboot the phone. Thats all
Hello, im having the same error. I have installed sd maid. I have searched startup and clicked on it however there is no toggle autostart components option.
