Hi All.... Bad day for me today - to cut a long story short, I drove over my beloved Archos AV560 media player, and naturally it has ceased to be. I used to listen to it several hours a day, but now I'm using a borrowed Ipod Nano. I read in another forum that the Kaiser dosent sound a lot different to the nano, so I thought about using the Kaiser as an mp3 player. At the moment I've got a Vario II (Tytn), and am due an ungrade in February.
Basically I'd like some feedback on battery life as an mp3 player, with screen off/on, with phone/3G off etc.
Thanks all.
Tim
I don't have battery statistics, but here are two relevant threads.
Audio playback - as good as Ipod?
Tilt: Music Playback Audio Problem (Glitch 'skip' heard every 3-4 minutes)
IMO, at the moment, the Kaiser is a poor choice for multimedia playback. It will have less battery life than an iPod/regular DAP because it doesn't have hardware acceleration.
With bluetooth headphones, my Kaiser skips like crazy (2-3 times a minute).
To use regular headphones, you need a 3rd part adapter. The D/A converter is much worse than the one in the iPod. Battery life will will be relatively bad (less than 8 hours continuous music, I would guess). Not to mention the fact that the largest MicroSD card you can buy is 8GB, for $120. For a couple of bucks more, you can get a 30GB iPod Classic or 8GB iPod Nano.
In my experience,
Under these specs,
-System Volume set at half
-Audio player set at 15%(Still pretty loud IMO)
Screen off battery:
(fell asleep for 4 hours with it on)
After 4 hours of continuous usage battery drops to around 30-35%
Occasional screen on/off (checking mail, time, etc) battery:
For about 3 hours, dropped down to 40-45%
Screen on Battery:
Phone sometimes gets pretty warm, but battery drops pretty fast. I left it on for IM with continuous usage. After 1 to 1 1/2 hours, it dropped to 60-65%
Hope these give u a rough idea on the battery life!
I really dont know why so many kaiser people are having problems. I use a couple different BT stereo headsets (rockr s9s and logitech ones also) and have never had any skipping problems. Infact I can set my phone down and walk 30 feet away without any drops or skips.
I have an ipod also thats been sitting in my desk drawer for months unused. I use Core player on my tilt and once you adjust the equalizer in it, the sound is very good. I have zero problems with battery life. I listen most the time for 5 to 7 hours straight at work and still have 40-50% of the battery left. I charge my phone nightly so it doesnt matter much to me.
I have my phone on, 3g on and the screen off. I hate having a pocket full of gadgets, that was my main reason behind the tilt purchase. So far I have no problems letting my ipod collect dust in the drawer and its probaly never going to be used again.
So an Ipod has more storage, I cant even listen to all of my 4 gig microsd card in 3 days at work. If I want more songs, its a matter of minutes to reload it. I also have a set of portable bluetooth speakers (nokias). Another thing an ipod cant do.
The logitech mp3 bluetooth stereo headsets were pulled off the market awhile back because the headband would crack/break. You can scoop a new set up for 29 bucks on some deal sites even today. they are one of the sweetest sounding headsets for that price. A couple mods to the headband and they good forever.
Go ahead and get the phone, you wont reget it even as a mp3 player.
I listen via BT (Sony DS HBH970), using PocketPlayer 3.5, audio files stored on a 4 gb microSD.
- After 3/4 hours I still have between 50 and 60% battery life.
- On PP, my settings are to turn off the screen at 1 minute.
- I do not have 3G in my area, and I do not keep Data on at all.
I do have an occasional skip, and I can't walk too far away from my phone before it cuts out.
Thanks for all your info guys. I've just ordered the USB to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my Sony headphones, and see how it all works out. It's gotta be worth a try!!

Well I guess it's time I try this .... but that leads me to another question: can I have your iPod?
Doubt he'll send u the ipod, but I can send you the most compact 60 gigabyte Archos AV560 media player you'll ever see. Just a mere 6mm thick. It's fully funtional apart from the fact it won't turn on....

This echoes my experience, as well. Using coreplayer, with equalizer, it sounds great. Turn the screen off while listening and it will run a very long time. I listened to mine on a 3 hour flight this week and the battery dropped by 20% during that time. Not TO 20%, dropped by 20%. (From 98% to 78%).
I used to take my Dell Axim, A bluetooth GPS, my Ipod Nano, and my cellphone on every trip. Now, I take just the Tilt. It's the first smartphone I've owned that was complete enough to leave everything else behind.

Same here, all I carry on the plane now is my TyTnII and Promate PM-2600's (absolutely no ticks or skipping with these!) and I have a WLHDD2.5 100Gig wireless hardrive in my case for tons of extra AV and business files.
I find I can get around 5-6 hours continous play when in flight mode and still have 50% battery left. If I connect my 'power monkey' portable charger I can easily double that.
Hi everyone...
I am going on a rather long trip so I am wondering if such a thing exists?
Pocketplayer really drains out the battery, I can't use Coreplayer because of album-art issue...
Is there a music player that will last more than 10 hours of music play in X1?
I have consistantly been able to get 8 to 10 hours from PocketMusic with a few phone calls and no other activities.
Has anyone ever used the Galaxy S as a media player only (turn 3G/GSM off completely). Any idea what the battery life is like? I never tested this out with my captivate when I had it and now I'm looking for a new media player to replace my POS ipod touch
I'm looking to get at least ~30 hours of audio playback, but the more the merrier
Not sure if this is a good example but have been doing some travel between Singapore and Ohio (USA). Total travel time to my destination is about 27 hours and basically keep my Galaxy S I9000 on airplane mode.
My main usage is for music and playing TV shows. If I play music, some soduku, and check the time and messages between stopovers, I can probably get through the 27 hours with about 5% left. If I play TV shows, then I won't make through the flight (maybe 12 approx). I make sure I carry a spare battery. Something to also be aware of, is that on my I9000, you cannot play any video or music less than 15% battery power (not sure if this is Android specific). The last 15% can seem to last a lot longer which is a shame.
BTW, I had a Gb iPod nano on a previous trip. If I had not lost it on the flight, then I would prefer using that mainly because of the size and battery life. I have added a 32 Gb micro sd card to my Galaxy so I have all my music which helps, but am always concerned about battery life. Again, not sure if this helps or is a good example.

Is it the default player that doesn't let you play with less than 15% battery life?
Good information though Thanks
I use the default samsung player but will try others later on.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Buff.. I've tried with the MIUI music player on Froyo and the same issue, no more than 27 hours of life
Bullsh***!!
Why on the hell i9000 eats so battery?

Is this with the cellular radio off? Is that 27 hours of continuous battery life? What ROM/kernel are you running?
So all my music is online on Google play music but GPM is draining too much of battery, is there any other player to play the music that is stored online on my account in Google Play Music?
Nope. How much drain are we talking about here?
Like a 2 percent every song drain
I played the following three songs, in order, from "Dr. Demento's 20th Anniversary Greatest Novelty Records of All Time". The battery started at 87% on the first of the three songs and didn't hit 86% until about half-way through the third.
The Scotsman (2:27)
Junk Food Junkie (3:05)
Eat It (3:20)
Something else is causing your battery drain. You'll need to investigate and see what's causing it.

It most likely relates to his signal and google music trying to stream it. This is part of of the same reason no one where I live use streaming apps like that. Signal will eat your battery alive. 99% of people here you will find keep their music on board.
Good point about the signal.
I happen to be that 1% that streams my music, though I still have an MP3 player just in case.

When I said 99% I was talking about the people around where I live. Due to many factors, not the least being location, signal here sucks no matter the carrier or device. So keeping many things on device is still handy here. Most devices sold still have an SD card slot. One bonus is that one carrier here sells only European device models even though we are in the states. So we have a good selection.
When you said "here" I thought you meant "here on XDA".

I kinda figured that from the reply:highfive: I wouldnt be surprised if many on XDA still did. With the data limits in some countries, it would have to be a complete pain to stream anything let alone reliably.
As to stay on topic, Any streaming service will eat battery. Mainly if signal is weak or unstable. So my advise would be to do what I ended up doing. Get an OTG flash drive and keep your whole collection with you.
Well it's not my signal because when I use Google play music and even after than it somehow keeps running in the background and when I see my battery stats, GPM has somehow taken 2 position next to screen in draining battery, I'm on Cm14.1 with latest elemental kernel running and I get about 3 hrs of sot, any better options for kernels?
If you have the premium version of Plex you can stream media (like music, movies, tv shows, etc...) as long as your plex server is up at home and have working Internet. Not sure on the battery drain vs Play Music. I personally use Spotify and stream everything but obviously that's a paid service.

I cant say anything about SOT. I dont keep track of it nor is it a big factor for me. My biggest usage of my device is with the screen off.
I would get something like Better battery states and see if you can track it down from there. It could be the media server issue that CM has suffered from for years but without a deeper look you really cant be sure. Also grab a logcat app and see if something is going on in the back ground.
I got the alternative, it's Tomahawk player, it's actually really good, and doesn't seem to drain that much either, another one is GMusicFs, but it doesn't seem to be working on Nougat
Why don't you just download your music to your device from GPM?
As the title states, this is a thread for OnePlus 6T users to provide their detailed user experience for others. Everyone's experience with the device and their use case is different, so I would love to see others' experiences with the device.
Previous devices: OG Pixel, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5, HTC M7, Galaxy S2, Moto G
Device model: McLaren Edition (10GB RAM, 256 GB Storage)

Rooted?: Stock, unrooted
Carrier: Mint Mobile (MVNO on T-Mobile network)
Setup description
Stock OP launcher, 3 email accounts (2 on push notification), wifi/BT/location/NFC all on at all times, 60% brightness
Typical usage
*I take advantage of the Warp charge function to top off the battery and go to bed at 100% battery
*Day starts around 6am and wake up to about 98% battery, may listen to music or have YT playing while getting ready for work and get in my car for work by generally 6:45am
*Stream music/podcast on the commute, which is typically about 30 minutes
*At work, mostly on wifi. Will check twitter and other news feeds throughout the day, listen to music/podcast through wireless earbuds (Jabra 65T) for a few hours, maybe a few minutes of YT and phone calls, intermittently respond to texts and emails
*Will leave work around 6:30 to 7pm and will listen to music/podcasts during the commute which is another 30 minutes
*Arrive home and will mostly use the phone to stream YT, take pictures/videos of my son, read articles/books up until an hour or so before bed - this will take the battery down to ~40% ish most days
*No gaming for me
*Put the phone on charger while I finish some errands around the home and getting ready for bed
*On weekends, usage varies with family activities so it would be a bit heavier usage with more photos and video recording, GPS, along with more media consumption than normal
General thoughts
*Headphone jack - I thought the headphone jack would be a bigger issue than it is. I really have not missed it at all, but I'm also not an audiophile nor have I spent much on expensive headphones over the years.
*LED notification - It's something that I do miss. Without having the color coded LED, I find myself unlocking the phone more often to make sure I'm not missing any urgent notifications - I may try out some of the alternatives suggested in XDA
*Camera - It's good enough, but nothing spectacular. Photos are great in good lighting and the video quality is miles better than my OG Pixel. I do notice a bit more of a shutter lag than expected (any options to minimize this?) which has been annoying especially with a toddler running around to ensure each picture taking is a challenge. Front facing camera is also generally ok, nothing special.
*In-screen finger print sensor - The in-screen fingerprint sensor is pretty dang cool and it'll turn some heads... but as it states in most reviews, it's definitely a hair slower and less reliable than the standard FS in most of the flagships phones today. By no means it's unusable, far from it, but you will absolutely have an adjustment period with the phone unlocking experience in the first few days. I did notice it got a bit more reliable in the past few days but still will be unresponsive a couple times per day
*Performance - I'm sure most people know this already, but this thing is amazing in terms of speed and performance. Nothing I can add that hasn't been said already except that I have not ran into any stutter issues during my usage and this phone runs REALLY COOL compared to any of my previous phones.
*Display - Very crisp and great viewing angles and vibrant colors. It makes my OG Pixel display look washed out and flat in comparison. Coming from a phone with large bezels, it's very cool to have such big screen real estate available to the user for media consumption and during app usage
*Battery - Based on my use case noted above, I typically will be on pace for about 30+ hours of usage with 6-8 hours of SoT. This is the first phone I have ever had where I can use the phone without having battery anxiety in the afternoon (Few screenshots of the battery performance attached).
*Software - I like Oxygen OS way more than the stock Android experience which has been a pleasant surprise. I have not had the urge to get Nova launcher or install different ROMs because of the features and customization available from the stock experience. Both the quick and navigation gestures are very cool and functional, my favorite being the ">" and "<" gestures to skip tracks.
*Other things - I mentioned Warp charging above, but it's incredibly fast... The battery is already so good to begin with that it won't take long to get it back to 100% from where it would be at the end of my work day and IMO it more than makes up for not having wireless charging. This version of the 6T is absolutely gorgeous... but man it feels fragile with the glass exterior... I put a clear case around it almost immediately. The physical slider (toggle vibrate, silent, ring) is something that I didn't know I would find so useful. I have average sized hands, and the phone is definitely a bit on the large side if you are looking for a device that is one hand friendly.
Conclusion
Being the most recent phone that I have purchased, it's not surprising that the OP 6T is the best phone I have ever owned. Performance, battery life and overall experience in using the device is just miles better than my OG Pixel (which I was pretty happy with). If you have a 2+ year old device and don't want to shell out a $1,000+, you should consider this phone. The value prop on this phone is off the charts compared to many of the more expensive flagships. There are some things that can be better (camera, wireless charging, LED notification), but the overall user experience on the 6T is incredible and it's one of my most satisfying purchase of the past few years.
