I (like many of you, I'm sure) plan on flashing a FroYo rom as soon as the most stable one is available, but of all the things that came pre-loaded on this phone, the music player is my favorite of any device I've owned.
Does anyone here know of a way to extract it or install it again after flashing?
Any help is appreciated
Yeah I have been really pleasently surprised with the quality of the music app.
aren't our music player the same as the i9000?
Except when it stops working when the battery gets to 9%.
I've owned this phone for about two weeks now, playing with it non-stop and have honestly never let it drop below 40ish percent battery life.
Some of us are just more responsible with our devices battery than others.

I fail to understand this comment.
Besides the bad idea of not draining your battery the first few times, and fully charging it, which helps it work to it's fullest, letting the battery drop and being irresponsible are not the same thing.
Better way to say it is "Some of us have a charger handy more often than others. Aren't we lucky"

I would love to know how you are more "responsible" than those who have issues with battery life.
The music player is pretty nifty. Someone will probably figure out a way to export it.

Are you guys so clueless as to having to have things spelled out for you?
Responsible with battery life =
Making sure you don't install crap apps and let them hang for battery drain.
Not running intensive tasks when battery gets low.
Optimizing screen power usage.
no music player widget sucks balls

Can we please discuss a way to back this music player app up somehow?

I find not having a music widget isn't that big a deal, because you can access the music player from the notification menu, and from the lock screen.
Yeah...so anyway, back to the main topic...
Check out the following post, I believe the music player is in this bundle (complete list of apps is in post #12). Obviously this is from Eclair and not guaranteed to work on Froyo, but hell it's worth a shot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712594
But as devs are still ramping up, we may see an official Sammy build of Froyo before a custom one (albeit for the International Galaxy S, not the American Death Star or Tmo versions)...
I like the music player except one horrible concept on it. I wish there was a way to go to artist then pick the album I want instead of having to scroll through every album's songs just to find one. Very annoying. I like it as far as a touchscreen music player goes but as far as usability I liked the Music player on my Curse 8900 better.

Yes it is one and the same thing.
Take it from me who has had to deal with roommates whom did not charge their phones quite often. This has lead to urgent phone calls always missed about rent, fees or stuff they have done in the home that needed urgent care.
Charging your battery and making sure your phone is always functional is part of a responsibility. The purpose of a phone is for someone to get a hold of you for a reason.
Can you imagine a doctor that never charges his phone and lets his battery stay around 9%? Yeah, I think you got it.
Agree.. but except for this.. I love the player.
Anybody know if the "5.1" mode is he real thing or just a gimmick ? Music does sound better in this mode in my car.
Regards
Nick

I atually have a question about this music player too. But quite opposite, I dislike this app very much, it can't do change songs when double click the remote on the earphone. It won't recongize the playlist I synced from doubletwist either. It's a lot worse than the music app from the thread "[APK] AOSP APKĀ“s for Galaxy S"
I am wondering if I can remove the stock music player or at least disable it so it won't auto start too when I click the remote trying to play songs from my new music app.

Geeze, I still get low battery life by the end of the day. If I could charge it for an hour on the middle of the day, I would.

*doh* at 15% battery life, the phone will live for quite a long time. Even in a phone call. So I'm not losing that (yes, I've had phone calls when my battery hits that, no problem. So no, I would not call it "irresponsible" to let the battery drop to 15%, when the ONLY functionality it affects is the stock music and video players.
If I was a doctor on call, that would mean most likely I'm either
a) at the office (with an outlet)
b) at home (with an outlet)
c) out running errands (with a car and a car charger)
d) know that of for some reason, I could not charge it, and it might affect it's function in the line of my job, I'd buy a second battery+charger and keep them both on my person in case it gets low.
Sadly, my daily routine keeps me on the move, not in a car, not near a charger for long enough to pull it out, plug it in, charge for a couple minutes, unplug, pack it up, move on. The grand total of maybe 8 minutes of charge is not worth it. I make it through the day, but my battery gets low. Please, explain how that's "irresponsible".
Yeah, I think you got it. Not everyone has easy access to chargers, not everyone is hit with functionality issues (maybe if the battery was hitting 3%, I could see an issue), so please, I get annoyed at these "responsibility" talks from people on the internet, who think they know everything.

Has anyone ever used the Galaxy S as a media player only (turn 3G/GSM off completely). Any idea what the battery life is like? I never tested this out with my captivate when I had it and now I'm looking for a new media player to replace my POS ipod touch
I'm looking to get at least ~30 hours of audio playback, but the more the merrier
Not sure if this is a good example but have been doing some travel between Singapore and Ohio (USA). Total travel time to my destination is about 27 hours and basically keep my Galaxy S I9000 on airplane mode.
My main usage is for music and playing TV shows. If I play music, some soduku, and check the time and messages between stopovers, I can probably get through the 27 hours with about 5% left. If I play TV shows, then I won't make through the flight (maybe 12 approx). I make sure I carry a spare battery. Something to also be aware of, is that on my I9000, you cannot play any video or music less than 15% battery power (not sure if this is Android specific). The last 15% can seem to last a lot longer which is a shame.
BTW, I had a Gb iPod nano on a previous trip. If I had not lost it on the flight, then I would prefer using that mainly because of the size and battery life. I have added a 32 Gb micro sd card to my Galaxy so I have all my music which helps, but am always concerned about battery life. Again, not sure if this helps or is a good example.

Is this with the cellular radio off? Is that 27 hours of continuous battery life? What ROM/kernel are you running?
It seems Google Now is draining my battery, not really bad, but it is keep my phone awake.
Now, I guess this is just part and parcel of Google Now having to constantly check your location, but has anybody else have an issue with Google Now on the One?
My battery lasted me 12hours yday with what I consider to be heavy use. Bluetooth Streaming Music for 2hrs web surfing over 3G for 2hrs whilst on the train with varying 3G signal, web surfing over wifi for 1hr (including downloading around 6 - 7mb. 15mins of calls. Around 40 whatsapp messages received and read, about 20 emails received via gmail and read, archived. Couple of minutes video, Switching Screen on just so I can see the phone I say at least four to five times and hour.
Not very scientific, sorry didn't really capture any screen shots with BetterBatteryStat, but gives you a rough idea what the usage was, all of that with Google Now on which I assume is constantly checking my position.
I would like to leave Google Now on, but if its going to make a big difference, then I have no choice but to switch it off. I continue to have location services on, but I assume that just allows apps to use it when required. Is there anything else from Google that requires constant checking of location?
Ok, usual suspects.. switched of location reporting under latitude and the partial awakes for the NetworkLocation seems to have more or less disappeared. Hopefully I get a couple more hours with the sort of use described above. If that's the case, I'm happy with that!
Note, location services under settings is still on.

Well, as you know it's all depends on what you run and how you use it. So I can't really answer your question. I can tell you what apps I used though, I unplugged my phone at 7:30am and used Play Movies for a few mins, playing a video, used Gallery for a few mins, check train times using National Rail Enquiries app, used Chrome for browsing on 3G, bluetooth streaming music for 1hr on my commute into work. Used Chrome for browsing and Sky News app on WiFi for say 30mins... downloaded some files over wifi and 3G. 10 - 15 pushed emails, 40 odd whatsapp messages which involved downloading some images, blinkfeed updates probably 3 -4 times, maybe more.
10 - 15mins worth of calls and lots of switch on screen and going through some settings and homescreen navigation and Play Store navigation.
Then browsing over 3G and BT music streaming for another hour on the commute back home.
BT and WiFi was on all day.
I had Google Now on, location settings on, latitude on and the phone was at 2% around 7:30pm when I plugged it back in.
Not very scientific but hopefully you can tell if you use more power hungry apps than I do.
Then recently downloaded BetterBatteryStat and GSamBatteryMonitor and realised that Maps was keep my phone aware for not excessive periods, but throughout the day, I say about 1.5hours. So I looked into exactly what that was and it turned out to be Location Settings in Latitude and potentially google now. Set both of those off and kept location settings on under the main settings, so apps can use it on request.
The phone is now spending less time awake when screen off. There is also a Facebook refresh interval setting, I don't exactly know what that is, but that was set to every 30mins. So I have changed that to every 4hrs. Notifications from Facebook are still pushed I think.
One thing I have set is Blinkfeed to auto te on wifi only and not wifi and mobile data and that was set when I got the phone.
Being a new phone I'm using this more than I would normally, so I'm more than happy with the results. To me, the above is me using it a lot, some people may say that's actually moderate use... so it's all subjective.
Battery life is one those things where you just won't get the same result for everyone, it really depends on so many factors, so you may have done so already and you probably know exactly what you're doing (I haven't read your post unfortunately, meant to be working at the mo) but all I can say, is install those two apps I've mentioned and have a look at partial wake locks and go from there.
Hope that helps.

Do you have the App Google Settings. It came with the phone and it has a green icon. Go in there and under Maps & Latitude you'll see a load of settings.
1) Switch off Location reporting, I used "Do not update your location", however, I think you can use "Set your location".
2) I've unchecked Report from this Device.
3) Enable Location Sharing was unchecked for me by default.
4) Disable location history
5) Disable Automatic Check Ins
I also have google+ off.
Now, obviously if you like to use that stuff, then you have no choice, but I don't need to keep track of where Ive been and I don't need constant reminders about things around me and how long it takes to get home on public transport (which only includes buses btw). If I did need local information, there is plenty of other apps that does that at my request.
If they refined it and made it much more configurable then it might be good, e.g. include trains and actually let me configure when the times I want it to start checking, e.g. when I finish work, an hour before start looking at weather, train times home, any delays and whats on TV.. now that would be brilliant, one it will save power as it will only check location at specific times and two it's actually useful information at that particular time.
Thats me though. Others might need Google Now as it is..
Hope that helps.

I'm no expert, but that seems OK to me.
Google Now was an even bigger drain on my S3 ...I had to disable it on that phone. I was struggling to get past 6 hours! I deactivated all the Google Now cards and the battery life returned. The One is clearly better because even with those same cards enabled, I can easily get through the day and beyond. Google Now is clever, but power hungry.

Next thing to look at is the App Sucker in GSamBattery Monitor and set it View Time Held Awake. My top three are Kernal (Android OS) 38m 1s, Google Services 13m 37s and System (*wakelock*) at 10m 9s.
You can find a lot of info in there and you can drill down even further and usually can tell what exactly is it that's draining the batt. Kernal and System, I don't know enough about, but when there's specific Apps that show high battery consumption you can tell straight away.
E.g. yday, I started up Sky Go even though I knew it wasn't working and shut it down immediately. However, it continued to run in the background and could only tell by looking at the BetterBatteryStats and GSamBattery Monitor.

Concentrate on the top 2 mate, seems like Maps and MediaServer what ever that is keep your phone awake for over 30mins. I would set a custom ref and switch screen off and check again say 10mins.
I've also discovered something else in Kernel Wakelock. Im on wifi at home and after 5 mins of screen off, it nearly has 1min of MSM_HSIC_HOST wakelock. I think this is the modem and wonder why it needs to wakeup as all data is going via wifi. Since unplugged this is at 1hr 17mins, with only roughly 1hr away from home. Does anybody know if this sounds right?
It is something else to look into
I got a refurbished AT&T Galaxy Note 3 about a month or 2 ago. From the very beginning the battery has been awful. On a full charge--which takes at least 6 hours--I can get about 4 hours of regular use (i.e. no games, just web, maybe some maps, email, turning off Wifi & GPS when not in use, lowering the brightness, etc.) and sometimes up to 8 if I don't use it at all. If I play a game or listen to an audiobook, I get maybe 2-3 hours. Even if it's plugged in to the charger, the battery will slowly drain if I'm using it. The phone is also very often really hot.
As suggested on other threads about battery problems, I've downloaded Battery Doctor to help close open apps--and that's given me a tiny bit more time, but nothing substantial. I've also been using GSam to see what the problem might be. 25% is used by the Android Sytem, 22% is used by the screen, 11% by facebook (which I've started force quitting), 8% by the Kernel, 8% by the phone radio, etc.
Nearly everyone says what a great phone this is, but I just find my self seriously limiting how much I use it--which defeats the purpose of even having it.
Any ideas of what's going on? Anything else I should be looking at or trying? Between this and the fact that I can't root (I have KK), I'm about ready to sell it and go back to an iPhone.
Thanks.

You may have a bad battery, pop the back off and replace it!
First and foremost, try and figure out what might be hogging up all your battery.
Go to System Settings -> General Tab -> Battery
Look at this list of apps that are eating your battery up. The top 3 are usually 'Android System', 'Android OS', and 'Screen', depending on your current usage (unless you have been loving up a game or other resource intensive app recently, in which case it will be up top). If you see an app that seems to be eating away at it constantly, even when you aren't usuing it, try uninstalling it.
You might also have a problem with wake lock (where an app, or apps keeps your phone from going into its deep sleep). If your phone is rooted you can get the wake lock detector from the app store and use it to figure out what is causing the problem.
If its a system app that casuing wake lock, or just eating through battery like there is no tomorrow, it might be a known bug someone can help you with.
Also a thing to consider is the health of the battery. You say its a refurbished phone, who knows what that battery has been through (if its not a new one, no idea if they do that for refurbs). Its not a cheap option, but if all else fails getting a new battery might be the way to go. Also if no else fails there is as they say the nuclear option, as in doing a good factory reset once or twice.
Hope all that helps

Thanks.

Battery drain on Kitkat is a common problem, but that is ridiculous. Sounds like to me that you have a messed up battery. You should be able to call Att and have them send you out a new battery. Or Samsung might have to send you out one. I don't know who, but the battery should be covered under the warranty of the phone.
EDIT : Also, check if the battery has any bumps, dents, etc.
Might try turning off location services as well
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
I just bought the note yesterday from a local Verizon store.
I really love it but my battery life is literally TERRIBLE. I've googled a bunch to try and find a solution but I haven't gotten a straight answer. I've heard to resync your google accounts, swipe data and reload everything, but nothing have seemed to be solid.
I am a pretty avid user of my phone and I decently know what I am doing. I am coming from a Razr Maxx x912 with CM10 snapshot M11.
So I charged up to 100% at 10:38 am this morning, went to the Cardinal Lions game. Wanted test the phone out and used pretty significantly. When I got home it was 6:00 pm and I was left with 26% battery. That is not okay.
I am using Google Now Launcher because I hate that you can't center the apps icon on their launcher.
I have location on/off when appropriate, wifi on when needed, no bluetooth, automatic brightness, close out active programs, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary that would suck up the battery.
My battery stats are reading with Android System at 25% use and Screen at 22%.
I've read people getting a total of 22-24+ hours with their Note 4. I'm not even getting about half that.
Did I get a bunk battery? Does anyone know of something I could be doing that is abnormal for battery use?
The phone does runs hot to the touch on it's back. I also get messages from advanced task manage that cloud or facebook has lagged and overdraws battery. I don't know of anything else I've done differently than any use of my other phones that would change my battery draw.
I'm willing to go back to the store and swap out this phone for another Note 4 because I do love the phone.
If anyone would have any ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
I consider myself a moderate to heavy user (gmail, hotmail, facebook, linkedin, dropbox, whatsapp, skype all syncing), often reading news and diff articles throughout the day, light game use.
I only leave wifi on when i'm at home or somewhere where i connect to wifi, otherwise it's turned off.
I usually get from 7am - 11pm with 30% left. Screen on time is the killer - playing games i notice the battery drop quickly.

I would say I am at the same level of use. Emails read and write, Reddit poops, typical facebook scrolling, instragram butts, news, text, Use bluetooth at the gym with wireless headphone, but no games or anything really consuming.
Do you see my situation as typical or atypical as in, is it obscure enough to go in and ask for a different Note 4 since because of the battery?

I assume that your phone would have been using more battery at a stadium with 50, 000 other cell phones its visinity. Your phone would be losing a lot of packets with so much traffic around it

that might be the case but as I was reading forum posts about the battery life on the way home from the stadium I could watch my battery % decrease. On a 20 minute car ride I went from around 33% to 30%.
Compared to other reactions to the battery life online, I don't doubt my battery is depleting abnormally for some reason whether it is in a stadium or not.

Yeah it seems to be draining a bit more than mine. I also listen to about 1-2 hrs music (or podcast listening), plus 1 hr using Runkeeper (that by itself only drains 3-4%).
Maybe give it a few days for the battery to settle in, then see what kind of battery life you're getting?
Are you using Lte, 3g or Edge?

LTE SM-N910V
On 4.4.4
Im moderate user with dropbox, google drive and 3 email accounts sync on. With power savig mode on I go from 7am to 11pm on 60 - 65% battery capacity. I keep screen on manual settings (automatic is to low for my likings) and phone is not rooted so I can't disable some applications running in background (same of them i.e tmobile my account I can close manualy in application manager). Install battery monitor to check if your phone ever go into "deep sleep" or if there is offensive app what keep it "awake" all the time.

So you're complaining because you left home used your phone all day to make it back home again and still have bayyery? I'm confused.

Why do you say this? I've never heard to not use them before, so if something else is more efficient or less burdensome that would be great! My task killer has given me the message of apps causing CPU lag and overdraining the battery wit the option to "BOOST". Not exactly sure what this means.. I assume it means boost (kill) completely. Is this normal?
I'm complaining because I've heard so many people loving the battery life on their Note 4, claiming to have a battery life of 22+ hours while I am barely getting 13. I want to ensure that I didn't get a bunk battery and that I might need to swap it out at the store. I love the phone but it bothers me to watch the battery % deplete before my eyes as I use it.
That being said, I watched 20 minutes of the science of interstellar last night after draining the battery completely and then charging it back up to 100% and at the end of the 20 minutes 92%. 8% loss over 20 minutes of video should not happen. Have anyone experienced something similar?
Since Android 2.3, task killer apps will significantly reduce your battery life. When an app is sitting open in the background it is just stored in RAM and is not using any power. When a task killer tries to kill it, it removes it from memory and then the system loads it up again. That causes power drain.

Was that a streaming video or locally saved? If you're streaming over LTE I wouldn't consider that too unusual.
You also haven't given any screen on times, which are very important. I can let my phone sit idle and get ~15 days out of it if I don't touch it, but I could also use it for 7 hours of watching a movie with the screen on and kill it.

I was streaming it over wifi via the youtube app, so it was nonlocal.
My stats show Android system at 27%, and Screen 12%.
I charged to 100% this morning and am at 93% now after screen time of 13m 15s.
That's actually really bad if it was over WiFi.. I had this test done (and throughout that post), but the one linked is at 95% of 41 minutes OST (1st post on that page); I also have three emails running (Push - two hotmails, one exchange for work); My test was basically running a Crunchyroll video for the whole time.. I was able to get a little over 8 hours OST at the end of the test; However, if you left your phone on for a few hours, then that's pretty good.. remember the standby mode does kill battery too.. I use a 'deepsleep' mode when my screen is off (80%+ deepsleep from CPU Spy);

CPU Spy for 48 seconds.. I'll post one with a bit longer time next.. but you get the point.. try to get deepsleep when your screen turns off.. (for example, I turn off all the radios (except cellular and bluetooth) when I turn off the screen.. The app I use for this is DS Battery... I had the 8 hours OST test done while using DU Battery, DS Battery, and Memory Manager Full all at the same time.. so now only down to DS Battery left.. from what others say, the apps that clear memory are bad because it reloads them back into services/memory and thus gets more battery drain.. just like getting out of a car door (while you are driving to the store) every minute to check on something, then getting back in.. better to just sit and go the whole trip and get out at the end (which deepsleep mode can do).. the app can run, but it can't do anything because the wifi/mobile data radio is off.. (just like if there was no 'car' in the example);
5 minute run.. dropped a lot but still over 95% of off screen time is 300mhz or deepsleep..

Great. Thanks I downloaded CPU spy and DU Battery. I'll look into DS Battery.
Other than turning off radios when in DS, do you have any other suggestions?
I was using Google Now Launcher, which I think ran the Okay Google option all the time which sucked some life. I switched to Nova and relinked my google accounts and it seems to be running better.
Ill charge it full and then run it dry and report back with my results.

Turn off Google Now if you don't use it
Turn off Location/GPS or make sure it runs only in power saving mode
Turn off location history in Google settings
Use auto-brightness
Disable Pen detection in the S Pen settings
Disable S voice responding to double-tap of the home button (in S Voice settings)
Don't use the Google search widget which listens for the "OK Google" command
TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher prime drains some battery too, don't use this unless you really like it
Use power saving mode when going out for a big day rather than relying on it as the battery is almost drained
Disable any apps you don't care about i.e. carrier bloat, Google apps like Play Movies, Books, Newstand and Samsung apps like the TV/remote apps, video player if you're using an alternative, cloud syncing processes and print/spool ones as well. This may not make a big difference but it's nice to get them out of sight anyway.
And most importantly, as mentioned previously, don't kill your apps. The only time I kill an app is for big 3D games as I like them to go away rather than sitting in RAM. I also have a little routine, when I do a reboot and full charge, I run all of my common apps like Hangouts, Messages, Phone, Chrome and my weather app so that they are sitting in RAM already while my phone's at 100% rather than draining my battery during my commute to work in the morning. I don't really have any particular reason to do this as my batter never gets anywhere near 0% by the end of the day, I'm just OCD with seeing it drain too much before I even get to work.
I don't think most of the suggestions above are too extreme. Unlike uninstalling commons apps such as Facebook/FB Messenger, or disabling your data/wifi/bluetooth or even turning sync off. To me this is taking away from the purpose of a smartphone, but each to their own.
