[Q] Contacts storage - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Contacts deleted due to Factory data reset can be recovered with a app/tool somehow or not?
I made a factory data reset (tought that my contacts are saved on the google account) and I lost all my ~500 contacts.
When we save contacts to phone memory they are on the internal storage or is a separate memory for contacts? I tried to use some app's from market but all of them find only other type of files that have been deleted. Tried to find by .vcf extention and nothing?
All my contacts are lost forever or there is a way to recover them?
Mention that I have a stock Samsung Galaxy S Plus (I9001) today rooted by the method described on your forum.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Help backing up Contacts, please!

Hi, I am running the official Sprint 2.1 rooted and I am going to unroot for reasons I don't feel like explaining.
But the thing I need help with is I need help backing up my contacts... I do not want to root and I don't know any way to do this. I just want my contacts to be backed up in a easy way. And I do not want to use outlook because my business contacts will be blurred with my personal contacts.
AND I would just write them all down, but I have 119 contacts and that would just be torture!
...Can somebody please help?
Yeah open your People app, hit menu, Import/Export > Export to SD card.
Of course there's also Google contacts sync
Oh. Okay, so when I run the RUU do I just take out my memory card so it won't get erased or will the memory card be untouched?
The sdcard should be untouched but if you want to be safe you can just back a backup of its contents by copy and pasting everything to your PC first
They aren't backed up already to http://www.google.com/contacts?
menu>settings>accounts & sync>gmail>menu button>sync now
grouping things together is really easy with the new google contacts manager, I can't imagine not using the cloud backup anymore, and I have been keeping backups of my contacts on every phone since 2003 through all kinds of methods.
Everyone should take a look at what is in the google dashboard now, if you haven't looked recently... you might be surprised.

Delete contacts

What is the easiest way to delete all my phone contacts? Do I need to do a master reset? I exported my contacts to the SD card and then like a dumb a.........s I clicked on the file on the SD card and now all my contacts are messed up. I have already backed up my contacts using Android Manager. Now I want to restore them but I need to delete them all from the phone first so I don't get all duplicates. My phone is stock and not rooted.

Try this, it should work on non-rooted phone since we won't be installing or backing up or deleting any apps.
Ignore the warning saying busybox not found or anything like that.
1. Open titanium backup
2. Look for "Contacts Storage" and select it
3. Do a "wipe data"
This should clean all ur contacts.
Thanks, but I am not using TiBu. Phone is not rooted. I backed up my contacts with Android Manager.

So u were able to achieve what u wanted?
No. I need to delete all my contact before I do a restore. My contact got all messed up when I hit the exported file on the SD card. Now I have Contact that show a number instead of a name and duplicate linked contacts. This is why I want to delete them all so I can do a restore to get them back the way they should be. No duplicates and no contacts with a number instead of a name.
Thanks

Recover Lost Contacts (No Gmail Sync)

I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561816 and it didnt not work. The problem now is that my phone (Incredible S) booted in the previous rom version and it was like everything was deleted!! The problem is that my SD card is still full of the same data that I had before!! so my questions are:
1) Since all my data is there, why does it not show up in my application menu or my gallery (pictures/videos/music etc etc??)
2) where are my contacts stored in INTERNAL memory, so I can just copy paste the contacts file? (note: I have no gmail sync account)
Thanks

When you Wipe Data in recovery mode, that is the same as a system reset and it removes all of your apps and internal data. Hopefully you made a nandroid backup in recovery mode before you stated this process, right? If so, just restore the backp. If not, then you have lost your contacts. Live and learn.

[Q] Hard reset after 8.1 queries

I am thinking about doing a hard reset after installing the latest update to 8.1 as battery is still terrible. I have some questions please.
Will my apps and games saves be ok on my sd card after reset?
I know I will need to reinstall all apps again but will those apps recognise the data stored on the phone or will it overwrite my saved data for the apps when reinstalling to sd card?
I know mail, sms, contacts and calender get backed up. Does what's app get backed up too?
So my main concern is losing my game progress for apps on card if I hard reset.
Any advice appreciated.
Thank you!

Your apps and games on the sd-card will be ok after hard resetting your phone. The problem is that your phone does not accept them and you will need to reinstall each app (and you lose the game progress unless the dev has integrated some kind of backup to OneDrive etc.).
In-App-Purchases will be stored if they are durable; consumable purchases are lost!
To mention WhatsApp: it is pulled form the store, so you were not able to reinstall it on your device!
I think 8.1 added the ability to back up application data too, which should help out. I don't know for sure, though; there may be limits and apps which get pulled may not get backed up / restored.

Reuse appdata after phone hard reset

I have lots of chats on my WeChat and I haven't online backup my WeChat (Phone unable to connect to Internet due to HOSTS file problem), right now I put all my Apps to SD card. I was wondering if I am able to recover all the apps after hard reset?
Thank you.
Use this, may work : AppDataMgr_Debug_AnyCPU.xap. Apps already instaled on sdcard will be erased at first step to install apps to sdcard...... but data backuped by this xap no.
