I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561816 and it didnt not work. The problem now is that my phone (Incredible S) booted in the previous rom version and it was like everything was deleted!! The problem is that my SD card is still full of the same data that I had before!! so my questions are:
1) Since all my data is there, why does it not show up in my application menu or my gallery (pictures/videos/music etc etc??)
2) where are my contacts stored in INTERNAL memory, so I can just copy paste the contacts file? (note: I have no gmail sync account)
Thanks

When you Wipe Data in recovery mode, that is the same as a system reset and it removes all of your apps and internal data. Hopefully you made a nandroid backup in recovery mode before you stated this process, right? If so, just restore the backp. If not, then you have lost your contacts. Live and learn.

Hi. Contacts deleted due to Factory data reset can be recovered with a app/tool somehow or not?
I made a factory data reset (tought that my contacts are saved on the google account) and I lost all my ~500 contacts.
When we save contacts to phone memory they are on the internal storage or is a separate memory for contacts? I tried to use some app's from market but all of them find only other type of files that have been deleted. Tried to find by .vcf extention and nothing?
All my contacts are lost forever or there is a way to recover them?
Mention that I have a stock Samsung Galaxy S Plus (I9001) today rooted by the method described on your forum.
Thanks in advance!
Hi guys,
I am running a PA at the moment and I want to switch over to CM9, however I would like to try and clean up the phone from all the app leftovers and stuff. With the SD card this is easy, I will just format it, but what do I do with the phone itself ? Is it possible to format the internal memory as well ( the part that is not used by the ROM) or should I just delete the folders created by the old installs etc ?
If there is a procedure for this, this one would be really grateful if someone could point him in the right direction.
Thank you
you can safely format your sd card (internal) via windows / mac without any issues, Just make sure to copy over your important stuff (pics, videos, music ect) before formatting, then copy them back after.
Android will rebuild its required files and folders upon a reboot. You could also try the app 'SD Maid' (free & paid) which keeps your sd card(s) free of junk, removing empty folders, Duplicate files and a whole lot more... Kinda like CCleaner for windows !
+1.
would love to know too.
EDIT:
Wait what?
So I could actually like delete all my files and folders on both the internal and external sd cards, and my device will still work perfectly fine with Android automagically regenerating all the required folders and stuff?
That is...
Awesome.
Sure You would need to reboot straight away tho !
only Android will rebuild its needed files, Not your apps, So you might need to back them up too, or make a Titanium backup before hand.
I format my SD cards everytime i do a full wipe. what i do is:
Connect to my PC
Make a titanium backup
Copy all my important things over (Roms, Mods, Pics, Music ect)
Format both SD cards
copy back to phone my important things
reboot into recovery
do a full wipe / factory reset, along with caches and dalvik cache
*install new ROM*
Reboot
Restore Titanium Backup
Google for squeaky clean install from rocketrom thread.

Thanks guys, I had no idea that android rebuilds itself, that is mind boggling to say the least.
btw, since we are talking backup and restore, do you guys have a good solution for backing up and restoring contacts other than Gmail? Kies doesn't work with custom roms sadly and with Gmail I can't only sync a certain group.
Thank you again

sure, Go to your contacts and select menu, Go to import / export and export them to your sd card, This will create a .vcf file, Then all you have to do is the same method but this time select import from sd card and select the file and hey presto, Contacts are back
will remake a more detailed guide later with images.
heres how i went about it.
download philz kernel (according to your firmware i.e ics or lsc, lsa etc)
transfer it and the rom you want to your sd card or ext sd. now goto cwm and flash philz kernel zip (we will flash the rom later on). then reboot your phone.
now once in your phone goto settings, storage, then erase the sd card and the mass storage. then goto factory and erase phone (this will make everything go away). you may need to delete the samsung account. just goto accounts and sync and delete the samsung one.
now reboot your phone into recovery. once there follow this youtube video (it shows your what to wipe in cwm) then once done flash ultimate rom. and everything will work smooth. rep if this helped. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI6KyqnuixU
once your done there is and updateme option in the settings menu under about. this has mods like awesome beats etc.
last thing that really helped me was backing up contacts, sms , call logs, calenders etc. i used this amazing free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts all the backups it makes are saved in your internel memory. there will be a folder called "SmsContactsBackup" make sure you copy that to your pc or save it somewhere as you will need to copy this back to your internel memory once you have installed new rom to restore the contacts etc.

I agree, imo useless point.
1) So its my understanding that your folders become wonky after this upgrade. Something about /sdcard/ and /data/media/0/ ?
2) Anyway, I'd like to clean up my phone's storage, getting rid of the 4.1.2 clutter. How would I go about doing this?
3) Also, how would I go about backing up Contacts, Messages, and saved Wi-Fi networks? I have Titanium Backup, but I don't know which thing is the thing I want to backup.
4) And when I plug my phone into my computer and access the phone's storage via Windows Explorer, which partition is it accessing exactly?
pls respond
2) Backup your stuff, tripplecheck! Then at Recovery, wipe sdcard, wipe data and install 4.2.2 - I did this by sideloading in TWRP
3) see TB-help. This is not in apps, but in the main menu > special backups >..xml. Also create an update.zip, speeds up the process. Maybe you also like MyPhoneExplorer for additionaly keeping contacts, messages, pictures.
I have lots of chats on my WeChat and I haven't online backup my WeChat (Phone unable to connect to Internet due to HOSTS file problem), right now I put all my Apps to SD card. I was wondering if I am able to recover all the apps after hard reset?
Thank you.
Use this, may work : AppDataMgr_Debug_AnyCPU.xap. Apps already instaled on sdcard will be erased at first step to install apps to sdcard...... but data backuped by this xap no.
