Galaxy Nexus - LG Revolution

So I went into Verizon and played with the Nexus for a little bit. Honestly I'm not to impressed with it. It does have some neat things about it but not a game changer, and I have better things to spend my money on then a 700 dollar phone.
GINGERVOLTED!

I just bought the Nexus - came from the Droid Charge I love it. But I guess if you don't like it, you just don't like it. IMO, there's not a phone out there to compare it to except possibly the SGS II.

Let's see, it is not the most powerful phone out, it is not the only one with a 720p screen, ics will be out for many others quickly, so I don't see how it is the best, and there are others that compare other than the sgsII. Lg's newest is more powerful than the nexus.

That thing looks bad ass plus it ships with 2.3 so an upgrade to ICS is in the cards.
I played witht the Nexus yesterday too... It made me sad. While the phone looked awesome and ran amazingly the battery cover was impossible to get on.. (it was off when I grabbed it) the thing that Verizon puts on the back to tether it down pulled it out and idk what happened...

I played with the Nexus yesterday and was highly impressed.
1. Fast. Really fast and super smooth.
2. AOSP - Straight up stock android with almost no Verizon apps.
3. A complete stock image is already available. One of the primary Google devs released the stock image so devs can play and not brick their new phones.
4. Rooted and boot loader already available.
5. Love the shape and it is super light.
What is not to love. I understand your love for your phone but the Nexus is a superior phone in every aspect. It is like comparing the Nissan z370 to a twin turbo charged GT-R...

By the time it is available the specs will be average, as was the case with the Revo. It should also release with ICS. At this point any flag ship device should now be releasing with A4.02

Mmmmmmmm GT-R

I would never compare it to this phone lol. That's just silly. But while I was very impressed with it I wouldn't fork out the money to get it right now. I would wait to see what else is coming out and all that. I jumped on the 4G bandwagon really fast and I got this phone. While I love this love and the community I will never do it again. Something will be out soon with equal or better specs than the Galaxy I'm sure.

While I partially agree, I would get this phone just for the fact it is pretty much straight android. It has minimal Verizon perversion in it. The problem with this all is there is always something better coming but at this moment in time, this phone is the seksay. If I did not have an aversion to Motorola, the Razr looked pretty hot in white yesterday as well.
What I really liked about the Nexus was the gallery app. It was incredibly fast. It loaded the pictures almost instantly into thumb nails and opened the full size image even faster. I really was pretty impressed with the phone. Being a person that is generally neutral towards technologies, not getting emotionally attached to say a cell phone or a computer brand, I really liked the Nexus, but again as you mention, in 3 months... something even more sexy will capture our fancies.

I have 3 lines. I still have 2 of my 3 upgrades so I can change out at any point.
I may hop on a nexus in February, or I may wait till next summer, giving the revo a full year. I will however from now on wait for 30 days after release to purchase a new device. Get a decent look at where the community is going, what level of development, etc...

The one I messed with the home screens seemed to lag for me. I'm not saying its not a nice phone but not a fan if it. My phone feels faster on my home screen. I didn't get a lot of time to mess with it had to get Christmas shopping done. I am still perfectly happy with this phone and what we have for it. Guess its a matter of style, just a wouldn't spend my money on it.
Also I won't compare phones. This phone does everything I need it to with no issues.
GINGERVOLTED!

It's awesome. Until the next big phone comes out in 6 months... the revo was a great place holder. Carry on!

I wouldn't suggest getting anything right now. Dual 2ghz processors are just around the corner, maybe spring time. I also wouldn't suggest an LG phone. After the first revolution, I will never touch another LG android ever again, no matter how good the bells and whistles sound.

[Q] How Do You Like This Tab?

Hello, I'm thinking of getting the 7" Galaxy Tab (wifi only) and wanted to see what everyone thought about it. What are the pros/cons, and is this the best tablet out there for the money?
We currently have a rooted Nook, so I imagine it will be close to that (but better) - but that is my wife's. I wanted something for myself, something with great hardware performance, but also easier to carry around than an iPad2.
What do you guys think?
Galaxy Tab will be your choice for mobility and performance. After you root it and load with custom Rom , you will fall in love with it. My son loves it
I think that it's a good idea, but keep in mind that the Nook Color is really customizable and is offered at a low price. What you do get with the Tab is better performance, better screen, and... Well, just about better everything, except the price tag and the battery life.
However, consider getting the 3G version as well if you really plan to use the internet anywhere. It's fun!

Isn't it like $20/month? I'm going to be getting a Samsung Epic here soon, and I live in Kansas City so 4G is great here.
I was trying to avoid a monthly plan. Plus I'm also leaving for Paris at the end of August for 9 months. Didn't figure I'd be using 3G much while overseas...
I would avoid it - mine is laggy and expensive

The wifi version is crippled, go with the 3g. No h264 decoding, up to 720p only (and only in mp4!), and different hardware so you will need to get a custom rom for the wifi version, one for the 3g wouldn't work. Apparently they don't even have the same cpu...

source? I'm curious about this.
Galaxy tab is the best . but why u wont wait for tab10.1 and don't tell me is big ..
yeah is big . but OMG
i would say that the gtab is the best device i have ever bought. i have no regrets purchasing it for the full price. no other tablet (thats out now) can compete with this 7" beauty. its the best 7" tablet on the market right now, hands down! screw the nook color. i use this thing every single day. its my main device, i carry only this device, no cell phone. battery life is great for its size. but after 6 months of using it, i feel like i need to upgrade it. i know this seems like a total 180, but i want a dual core version with honeycomb (and some more RAM) but with the exact same size. everything else is great! the only reason im saying this is because i consider myself a heavy power user (the elite of the elite) and i feel like sometimes it just doesnt keep up. but if ur not like me then this will feel like its blazin fast for you. since i know that i wont get what i want, i still recommend this to people considering a nook color something else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038171
Have a look at this thread, it seems the wifi tab can only play divx at 720p and not h264 720p like the 3g can. If video playback is a major reason for buying the tab then stick to the 3g version!

The Tab is by far the best phone/tablet hybrid out there right now. The important factors to me are:
* size (pocketable)
* screen resolution
* build quality
* GPU acceleration for HD video
I took it with me last week while travelling around Krakow, Poland. Picked up a Polish Internet SIM for £10 or so. It was like having a personal guide at all times. Google Places, Tripadvisor app, email, websites. All there at the touch of a button, and all pocketable. An iPad would be useless for such a trip.
I think it's best to think of the Galaxy Tab as a sort of phone/tablet hybrid rather than just a tablet. Honeycomb will not be targeted at this device as physically it's as much a phone as a tablet. This is a good thing as Honeycomb tablets are too big to carry around town and are lacking in telephony. The OS update after Honeycomb will bring that OS's functionality for smaller devices, but for now it can seem an oddity as it needs a phone OS (Froyo, Gingerbread etc) to be fully functional.
As it stand though, there's nothing that can match it .
I originally bought the Viewsonic G-Tab because it had the Tegra 2 processor and Xoom like hardware. Even though the screen was 10.1" it was terrible to see from almost all angles.
I decided to exchange it for the wifi only Tab and I have not been disappointed. It looks great and I actually think I prefer the smaller screen than I did the 10.1 tablet. I find the weight is more evenly distributed in your hands and that I can more easily type since my hands can span the screen. It doesn't sound like a big deal but unlike my phone I find myself using this thing for hours at a time and holding the larger heavier tablet wears on you after a while.
The battery life is decent even with heavy use. The device feels sturdy and well put together. I think the touch is responsive and the glare on the glass is not any worse then the other tablets out there.
I know I have heard how the wifi version is not as good as the 3G version. Honestly, I have a Vibrant that I can tether off of and I don't need the 3G and added monthly costs. I am almost always around an access point anyway. It runs fast and downloads better than my phone. I would like to have custom roms to put on it but I rooted it and added VT-Launcher and it looks like a different tablet.
Finally, I looked at Honeycomb and those tablets. I really don't see the big deal. The 2.2.1 FroYo does everything that you would want from a tablet with the right apps. I can do everything I need to and then some. Honeycomb isn't going to add any capabilities that I don't already have. My only complaints with the Tab is that it doesn't charge with the USB from a PC (at least very fast) and that the VPN isn't working for me with PPTP right now. I have a call into Samsung and I hope to get that resolved soon. Otherwise, this is a great buy.

i'm still having doubts with my Tab (wifi version) since i'm unable to "use" its full potential. i didn't bother though getting the 3g version since i have a small phone at hand.
i'm a little unsatisfied but it's all good. i primarily use it for viewing and editing documents, surfing the net and some music and audio. that's pretty much it. if there's someone who'd be able to do a custom rom for the wifi version, then i'd be recommending this Tab.
I have both a Nook and a Sprint G-tab. If I wouldnt have gotten the deal I did on the G-Tab (company paid for it) I would return it. not that it is a bad unit, I am pretty pleased with it. My Nook has CM7 loaded on it and comparing the two comes out pretty much a wash. They are both great devices. I use the crap out of a tablet and both do everything that I want them to do.
Just my $.02 on the subject.

I am seriously considering replacing my Bionic for either the RAZR or the Nexus.....the Bionic is MUCH thicker than I anticipated, and the RAZR looks so amazing....then you have the Nexus with ICS....ugh...hard decision! They are all nice phones though, that is for sure!
I am actually leaning toward the HTC device if anything. Sense as of 3.5 is extremely polished and IMO lightyears ahead of blur and touchwiz. My wife's incredible 2 is, for lack of a better term, an incredible phone but I couldn't convince myself to go with a 3G only phone. If this new HTC stacks up to the Inc2, but with 4G, count me in.

I'm currently on a Thunderbolt and even though it has good support(roms/kernals/radios/etc) I've been feeling the need to want to upgrade. I hate having to overclock to get things running properly(plus overclocking shortens the battery even more).
I decided on the Bionic(just from the specs alone) until i was in a local Verizon store playing with the thing and didn't like the screen on it + i just didn't like the way it felt in my hands compared to the Thunderbolt. I've heard of people having audio & radio issues with it to.
So, since I can get the Bionic(or any of the new 3) for the same price i figure i may as well go with whatever has the best specs & hopefully works out well & gets good support to.
However, I am also thinking that once these new 3 hit the market, some people with existing Bionics are going to try and unload them for decent prices on craigslist and am contemplating just getting a Bionic after all for a good price.

Wait, you don't even own a Bionic, yet you posted this in the Bionic forum? According to you, you already decided against the Bionic. So the only point your making then is that the phone owned by the people in this particular forum is sub-par, and you're considering one of the three new ones coming out instead. Yea. Cool. Go away.

The only thing that interests me out of the 3 phones coming out is ICS. But to me it's not worth going Samsung, and losing external SD. Also, the screen is going to be pentile too. http://www.phonedog.com/2011/10/21/will-a-pentile-display-turn-you-off-of-the-galaxy-nexus/ . Razr is also pentile , rezound is probably the only phone not rocking the pentile matrix. Droid life says ". If you thought the Bionic felt polished and smooth, just wait until you get your hands on this phone." I usually take what they say with a grain of salt, that site does tend to exaggerate. 200mhz doesn't make that much of a difference, all I could think of is the 2.3.4 vs 2.3.5. But when ICS hits all, that shouldn't matter anymore gg.

Do we know for sure that the Bionic pricing will stay the same? I can't say that I've heard anything, but I've kind of assumed that the Bionic would be cheaper than newest phones. At the same price, I think too many people would choose the newer phones over the Bionic. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a price drop of some sort.

I own the Bionic, but I'll sell it for the HTC Rezound at the drop of a hat. I prefer HTC's build quality and style to Motorola's. Love the Bionic, though. The Galaxy Nexus is a slight disappointment and the RAZR looks sweet.
I'll have to play with them first, before I make a final decision.
My take on them advertising the bionic for free on Motorola's pages on the webtop is that they are targeting businesses more than the average consumer. Attract the right manager, the whole department gets a Bionic as their work phone.
With Verizon eliminating their inlimited data plans, I'm sure that allows them to offer better deals on the phone themselves, as they will make it back on overages.
Until I see them offering free Bionics at the stores and advertise it on tv, I wouldn't make too much of it. They did say that the Bionic was going to be a business phone, so offering better deals in places business leaders will see them makes sense.

[Official] NEXUS owners hangout thread

here's a thread where NEXUS owners on XDA can gather to hang out and chat about anything (up to the mod's discretion, of course)
talk about what you did with your device, new and upcoming gadgets, technology rumours, random dev/theme/mod stuff, your day at work, your new car, or even that barbershop you just got a haircut from.
want to ask a question or share a thought but don't think it needs its own thread? post it in here
so sit back, grab a coffee (or beer), and post your random thoughts

Totally understand but even though I love the small form factor if the DS, I've regretted not having a larger screen when browsing got about a year, so can't wait to make the change, will probably take a while getting used to the larger devices but don't believe that I'll regret it

Well if it's the official thread, awesome!
@above poster: 4.2 hasn't even been finalized yet, so take those benchmarks with a grain of salt. They could have another performance update for chrome coming right before it launches, or even just after
On a side note, I can't wait for gesture typing in the stock android keyboard. I know its been around for awhile with swype and a bunch of other keyboards, but they've always been stuttery on my phone.

My first week in the wild with a Nexus 4

It's been 8 days since I got my N4, and I've spent a full week of sixth form college using it. (Like the last two years of high school for you non-Brits.) In my case, it's been fantastic. I love it.
Hell, it even helped me get a girls number. I just met her, was talking to her for a bit, whipped out my N4 to check the time and she grabbed it off me in awe and added her number to my contacts
One of the main things on my mind was how tough the gorilla glass actually was. And I can say, it is in perfect condition. No scratches or marks whatsoever, but I have been very careful with it.
In Cambridge I get a decent HSPA signal and generally fast speeds. No HSPA+ on giffgaff though I listen to music on the bus and the audio quality is great, maybe on par with an iPod/iPhone. (Yes, you can tell the difference with a cheap Android phone and an iDevice.) The speaker is mediocre though, and the volume is severely reduced when placed on a flat surface.
The screen is wonderful, I haven't noticed any yellow tint or washed out colours like some people say. The way the glass curves off to the edge is magnificent, and really makes a significant difference in interacting with the phone.
On the topic of the screen, the glass itself feels very premium. It's smooth to the touch and is the most oleophobic screen I've used. The phone feels like it should be priced much higher.
The reflective back is very tasteful, it never looks tacky. A lot of the time it's just black and looks great. The camera is better than expected, it produced good photos.
Performance is good, I've had very few slow downs and games play at a high FPS. Chrome being the stock browser doesn't bother me, it holds up very well when browsing. The only difference you'll notice will be in benchmarks. There isn't really much to say about 4.2, I'm sure you're all aware of it's features. My only gripe is that the quick settings aren't toggles, they're just shortcuts.
Battery life is well.. meh. It's enough to hold up my day of moderate use (taken off charge at 6:30AM, get home about 5:15PM), but it's normally less than 15% by then. I would've liked something that could hold up for a bit longer.
I have also found that WiFi signal seems to be worse than previous devices I've owned, but I'm just looking for something to complain about now.
Overall, it's great. In my opinion, taking into the fact that it's a Nexus device, it's the best phone on the market. My friends seem to like it too, no one I've talked to so far knew what it was, but they're definitely interested in it. One of my buddies insist that I give it to him for his birthday :highfive:
For you guys who also have the phone, what do you think of it? And what have other people said about your new treasure? Feel free to ask any questions too

I like your summary!
I'm getting mine on Monday when my dad brings it with him from the U.S!
I think that most of the issues will be resolved in 4.2.1 (maybe even bringing LTE), making this a nearly perfect phone!!!

For me, LTE isn't really on the agenda due to it's scarcity and price in the UK, but it would definitely make this phone more future proof

To me, it sounds like O2 are preparing a nationwide DC-HSDPA rollout.
As its already available in limited big cities.
So, if the rollout is due end of this year - must mean everyone else, right?

Picked up my N4 today and have been getting to grips with it, initial impressions are. It's fast though have had slow down. Gets very hot during anything using GPS or when playing games. Camera is average and when using the flash images are washed out. It's a bit early to say much about the battery life but after 1hr38mins, its down to 73%. build quality seems good. I thought it would be a bigger leap up from my old phone but am a little disappointed currently. I will continue but if it doesn't impress further it will go back. Do love jelly bean!

Initially the battery is worse. After a few days it seemed to last longer. I also found that it gets quite warm, but I think that's mostly due to the glass
Coming from one s, it was gonna be a one x+ or N4 but like the natural android experience.

That's coincidental, not irony.... But if Alanis Morissette got it wrong, you can't blame others for doing same.
Besides use Tapatalk instead. It actually works better on the iPhone 6+ than Note 4 (you see more content/posts on it).
I have both the 6+ & Note 4 (and a moto x 2014) and contrary to popular belief the two can co-exist very happily - both great phones. My app usage is near identical between them too.
Both have great screens and great battery life. And after 5 months use, neither my Note 4 has a gap gate issue or iPhone 6+ bend gate issue....
I don't understand why some in android or apple communities get so insecure about these things. Just enjoy whatever device you are using.
That being said I'm not sure why your post is entirely relevant here and will inevitably stir up a hornets nest.
I must admit I have thought about it while sitting here waiting for lollipop. Considered the Nexus 6 as well, but at the end of the day this Note can do things that none of the competition can. The pen mostly but the removable battery and sd card are also nice. 6+ would be ok if I got the 128gb version but here in New Zealand a 32gb Nexus 6 costs the same as a note 4 so it's a total no brainer, lollipop or not.

I actually had the same thought, because I admire the beauty of the iPhone. But after taking a look I realized that they wanted me to pay extra cash for the exchange which is ridiculous since they get a better phone from me then I get from them.. But I might trade phones, just to try out the 6+ someday..
Im waiting for "IPhone 17 plus +" until then I stick with Note series.

I actually think it's not a bad idea at all. I've been with Andorid since the start and never had an Iphone, but there's tons of apps that have better support on iOS/apps that are not on Android at all. anyway..why not change once in awhile and try new things right? maybe i'll do it with my next phone
I made complete research, and just for change of taste, i went to buy an iphone 6+, got it booked here in Pakistan. but ended up buying a Note 4, and my first 2-3 days were of full depression because of battery drains but now its all fine. the only regret i have is the sound quality i was having with htc one m8 before, otherwise note4 is soooo awesome <3
After just one day with it, I quite content with it. Seems to be pretty solid...so far.

The fact that you can't use NFC (no secure token such as yubikey) for anything other than ApplePay, or that you can't use openvpn or PGP on an iPhone makes it an unsuitable/undesirable device for me. I hate how you can only run software endorsed by Apple on a device you paid for.

Agree but that's how they maintain the pubic perception that their platform is stable, secure and reliable. In reality it's no better that a high end Android these days, it's just that it's much easier for Android users to completely bork their phone by installing badly built apps.
Also iOS is easier to develop for, so long as you're compatible with the latest iOS you don't really need to worry about much else. Android is completely different. People could be running your app on anything from gingerbread to lollipop, have from a 1ghz single core cpu to a quad/octa core monster, 512mb to 3gb ram, 600x800 up to 1440x2560 screen res, etc etc.
In other words I couldn't give a **** for iOS, but the app ecosystem is kind of tempting.

That said to the OP, iPhone 6 plus is a fine device. Enjoy the great apps, a great consistent camera and great battery life.

Can you elaborate on this? While your statement holds partial truth, it was also ironic that I tried to download a well-known android app on my iPhone. Never, EVER make me feel like I wasted money on an education again!
