Well,it gives, games demanding memory run fine now

SWAP helps with little help not bad at all.

Yep,Dead Space wouldn't even boot before, now it runs fine.
Can't find any example of SD card broken by swap?

how can you tell?

how can you tell if your ext partition is helping?
so i downloaded apps2sd and repartitioned, but nothing is faster, i see no clarification of speed from it at all....the only thing noticeable is that my 4 gig sd card is now 1.75 gigs......help?

You don't, apps2sd puts your apps on the sd and that is all. It doesn't help with the speed or anything else.

I think you can check sd storage via settings or type df in terminal to see if its being used and how much space is left.
But speed wont be faster or slower with apps2sd.
the ext partition is for using apps2sd, so it will make your fat32 partition for media and such smaller. swap partition is to make things speedier, or supposed to. check settings/sdcard & phone storage/sd card secondary. thats how i could tell by total and available space
so to have 2 1/2 gigs for apps is really a waste unless i want to have 500 apps on my phone......good to know, if i may ask, how do i get rid of that? and how do i get this "swap" partition?
thanks for your replies, theyre greatly appreciated

You must repartition your sd with recovery and choose a swap size...But all your files on your sd will be deleted from your card. And you must re-DL apps from market.I use 256MB Ext cause i install less than 30 apps.My fav app is gameboid/Snesoid so i mainly care if that works.

*boots into recovery and actually reads the options* oh look, "partition sdcard," am i blind or what? lol. thanks ace, had a feeling i could count on you.....thanks to everyone else for there responses as well ^_^
i used droid swap, but ive only got the stock mem card for now as my 8g **** out on me, and its a class 1 i have been told, which is why i was lagging so much with a2sd. but im pretty sure you can use scripts and such to turn swap on

[Q] Proper App2SD guide please...

Im using custom roms for a while now (on GDX26 now). i just move apps to sd, havent done any partitioning and things. so can someone give me a proper noobs guide to app2sd and tell me whats about this sd partitioning and file systems and stuff?
anybody??? :/
Check if your recovery has a Partition option, this is the easiest way to do it. If yes, you only need to give the size that you desire for the partitions. WARNING: all your SD data will be deleted.
If no, you need to use a PC Program, like minitool partition wizard, to create the EXT partition. It's easy: shrink the fat32 partition and create the EXT partition using the left space. The format must be EXT4.
Hopefully, your phone will recognize the EXT partition and will mount it

Thanks guys
but can you tell me whats the difference between native app2sd on 2.3 and app2sd with sd partitioning?
oh and whats this swap? its some sort of virtual ram right? do i need it and how do i make it?
Native app2sd doesn't move all the app to the SD (and not all the apps can be moved). Using EXT partition all the apps can be moved totally, so the use of internal memory is minimal.
SWAP, yes, it's virtual ram. I don't recommend you its use, because the SD's life is dramatically reduced.
If you wish to test it, you need to make another partition (formatted as SWAP), either from the Recovery or using a pc program.

Thanks that pretty much cleared everything for me.
I have a small problem :/
i partitioned the sd with CWM to ext4(no swap), everything works fine except the write speed of the sd in mass storage mode is so so slow. its really annoying why is that?
btw my sd is 16GB class 6

Please somebody help me with this?
i dont think this happend on ext4 format.
is the write speed realy a big thing? i also have moderate write speed and i can life with it
EDIT: If you want to move BIG files to your sd use a cardreader, for me its fast...

You have no idea how slow it is. about 900kb/s took me 3+ hours to copy about 10gb of my old data to the sd after partitioning
i dont have a card reader
BUMP!!!
Really need help please...
so no fix for this?

[Q] how much to partition on my 8gb sd card

How much gb/mb should i partition on my 8gb sdcard ?
i know how to do it now i only need to know how much space to partition also i need info on the swap how much space to put i know it will be bad if i put alot so suggest to me pls ..
1.Wrong Section
2.512MB enough for around 100 or so apps.
3.Swap kills SD faster. Use at own risk. 64MB is sufficient

Details here.
Here I use 16GB, and partitioned 512MB for Apps. Got 300MB remaining. Works great.

Sd-ext worth it?

I just got a new sandisk ultra 16GB class 10 sd card. Is it actually worth partitioning my SD card for swap and increasing internal storage. I hear that the SD card gets corrupted after about 6 months of use after partitioning.
Thanks

Noway it doesn't affect the sd card...maybe swap does coz the card is always getting accessed...and moreover even swap will reduce life only to an extent that you won't even realise it in your period of use...and mostly all memory cards these days have a full 5year warranty...I have the same card..I've used partition wizard tool and created a 512mb ext4 partition and a 128mb Linux swap....and am using psn swapall cm7 kernel with vo1s rom amazingly smooth!!

Totally worth it
I use stock XWKTS PSN rom with PSN kernel and i have 480mb internal storage and my phone flies

Absolutely. I use link2sd. Wouldn't cope without it.

Thanks guys, guess I'm partitioning the SD card

which method its better, i have a class 10 sd, as for me i dont find difference between psn mod, cronmod and links2sd?
I'm currently using psn swapp all v3, since swap its on internals i think its faster but all other methods work just fine.
Totally worth it!!!!
EXT partition is recommended however SWAP is a bit optional thing, its a much more strain on the card's life.
I use cronmod, its gui free, i like it, does everything by itself in the background, no hassles with setting up link2sd or app2sd.
Yeah absolutely worth it. I wouldnt be able to live without it now.
The ability to install loads of apps is amazing.
You will face an issue with corruption only if the card was of bad quality to begin with.

[Q] Can I swap to internal memory?

Can i swap to internal memory, I.E. /data/swapfile ?
I try using swapper2 and selecting swap file location to data/swapfile, but i have an error swapon /data/swapfile : invalid argument
If its showing an error then its quite obvious that you cant do it..
BTW our internal memory is already too low and op of that you want to swap it...
strange..

I think that the internal memory is more faster than the microSD card. I question this because I found this post for GT-I5500 (madteam.co/forum/tutorials/updated-v2-swap-in-internal-memory/).
I don't understand perfectly, hence I'm doing this question here.
Sorry for my English, i'm using Google translator
It's maybe faster, but the lifetime of the internal memory will drop greatly, and you can't change that if it becomes bad, so it is strongly not suggested to use it.
use class 10 sd card and make swap with kernel
