[Q] dell streak 7 is not entering in clockwork mod - Dell Streak 7

dell streak 7 is not entering in clockwork mod after installing custom rom and perfectly root and installed rom manager.. even after installing clockwork mod recovery.. 3.0.26

Do you know if you are running 2.2.2 (Froyo) or 3.x (Honeycomb)? I think, either way, installing Clockwork recovery still requires you start via the Dell stock recovery.
If you select "reset data" from the stock recovery, you should be taken to Clockwork from there. The Manii will correct me if I am mistaken. I am quite sure it works this way with Honeycomb.
Also, if you are running Honeycomb, I do not think CWM 3.x.x is compatible. You'll need a later version (5.x.x) to work properly - found elsewhere in these fora.

Added to wiki FAQ, as it is a common issue. I believe it's 60% but I cant confirm either one.

Actually, I believe you are correct with 60%.

60% charge
Install CWR
Power off DS7
Press and hold Volume+ and Power , till it comes to the recovery screen
Using Volume- (down) , go to the option "Install pkg", and use the Power button to select it
This will then boot into CWR

You can get rom manager from the market. There is an option to reboot into recovery. Sounds like wifi needs to work first.
If you have a phone, you can download ROM Manager that way, and transfer to your Nook with the SD...

Best way to root the Dell Streak 7 - Gingerbreak

GingerBreak 1.2 - Easy way to root your streak read on
I have a t-mobile dell streak 7 and I read the forums for days about rooting with SuperOneClick and a couple of outdated ways which would simply not work for me. I tried it with various versions of SuperOneClick from 1.55 up to 1.9 with no luck. Since I am on a Macintosh this further complicated things. I tried doing it with SuperOneClick in VMWare with no luck and then I used an actual Windows XP 32bit PC with no hope. I am not sure if the solution below will work on ATT, Rogers, WiFi or other dell streaks but it worked for me on my tmobile streak
Gingerbreak worked wonders and is by far the easiest way to root the dell streak 7. Its a simple android app which you download and install and then launch and click the root button.
As always you should read up on the forums first about this device. I am no expert and most people were able to get SuperOneClick to work by the looks of things. Remember by rooting your tablet you are voiding your warranty and you could easily damage your device.
Unrelated to rooting one of the LED backlights in my screen has recently broken and so I am having to unroot mine in order to send it back to dell for repairs. Just keep this in mind before you jump into doing it. I imagine if I sent them my streak in its current state they would not fix it. I will post the steps I performed to un-root later.
STEPS TO ROOT DIRECTLY FROM DELL STREAK 7:
Go to market and search for "Download All Files" and install the program
Install a file manager like "File Expert" - so you can extract the zip file once its downloaded
Go to Settings then Applications and check the box "Unknown sources"
Open xda-developers.com and search for Gingerbreak - at this time the top result will give you the main page for Gingerbreak with various versions
Download version 1.2 by clicking on it: GingerBreak_exploit_source_from_APKv1.2.zip (14.9 KB, 3542 views)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Once its downloaded launch FileExpert
Browse to your downloads folder
Click on the Gingerbreak zip file and extract it
Now you will have a package you can install by clicking on it (.pkg)
Gingerbreak will show up in your apps, launch it.
In the app all you have to do is click the Root button
Once its done it should reboot automatically
Simply install Clockworks Rom Manager from the Market and you are ready to try new roms from the main xda dev page for streak 7 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak_7
NOTE: I have heard mixed reactions on what version of Rom Manager CWM to use. Some people say that only certain version work and others say that you can use the current version. I had no troubles with the latest version 4.3.0.1. I have not looked at the development fork so I have no idea. When I tried one method of unrooting I ran into a CWM Loop but I am 99% sure that it was my fault, not CWM's.
Worked great for me

Easiest way to unroot Dell Streak 7
This is the easiest way to unroot the dell streak 7 that I could find. Keep in mind you will loose your data doing it this way.
I tired another unrooting method and ended up stuck in CWM loop. In other words I could not get to fastboot. I could not get to the stock recovery. I would turn on my device and ended up in Clockwork Mod Recovery menu each time. It was as if I had deleted the normal recovery menu.
I also had a hard time getting into the APX mode to install the driver. After carefully reading the instructions I noticed how easily it was to accomplish this. You simply unplug the USB from your computer first then hold down volume up and down at the same time as pressing and holding power button. Its hard to tell its in APX mode. THe navigation buttons will be lit up but the screen will be dark still. Then plug the usb back into your computer and it will detect it as an APX device.
It does take a little while to download all the files but you only need p2.img through p14.img GOOD LUCK!
Here is the guide.

I was using 2.2.2.
Thanks It worked perfect!
Hmmm... a little confused... maybe it's just late... maybe I'm having a blonde moment...
Anyway, the file you said to download did not have a .pkg in it. But in that thread there was an .apk file to download. Which I did, and I installed it. (No unzipping required)
After I installed it, I put my S7 into usb debugging mode, and ran GingerBreak. It appears to have rooted the device. I tried SetCPU after and it worked as Superuser (root).
But when I installed ClockworkMod, it doesn't reboot into recovery mode. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Boot into recovery by holding power and volume +. Choose the second option (I believe it's "install update.zip"). This will boot you into Clockwork Recovery.
Thanks Zandar!
One more question: I'm used to the way Clockwork Recovery works on my phone (Droid Eris with CyanogenMod 7 on it). On my phone, I go into Rom Manager and select an option (such as Backup current ROM) the app reboots into Clockwork Recovery.
The way my Streak works now, no matter what I select in ROM Manager, I have to reboot the Streak manually, hold the volume up and power to get it to go into Clockwork Recovery, and then manually do whatever I need to do in Clockwork Recovery.
The question is: Is that how it is supposed to work, or did I screw something up?

ROM Manager is only good for flashing Clockwork on the Streak 7. All of the other functions don't work.
Yaaaay...finally an easy way to root the dell streak 7 --gingerbreak saves the day!!!
Re: Easy way to root dell streak 7 android os 2.2
thank you soooooo much!!! This took 2 minutes and worked...i tried all of the versions of super1click with no results (actually i almost bricked the tablet once with it...good thing there's a reset pin hole next to the sd card).
At any rate, muchas gracias!!!!
Flawless
Worked perfectly, even for a noob like me. Many thanks!
Rooted DS7 stock 2.2.2
No matter what I did with superoneclick I could not get it to work with 2.2.2, this worked like an absolute charm. Thanks'd!
Okay, I have a new wifi-only S7, and I can't get it to root for anything. Gingerbreak just sits on the "Rooting... running exploit... This may take a few minutes! Device will reboot on success!" screen; I've left it for upwards of 45 minutes several times. I've tried two different SD cards, and, per one thread that said that the pre-installed card is treated like an external and so you don't need a separate card, right now it's running without a second SD card.
I tried SuperOneClick, and it hung on step 6 the first couple tries, then wouldn't even go that far (I was rebooting and/or unplugging between tries) before giving me a popup asking if it had 2.0 or above and then giving me this message:
startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
Parameter name: startIndex

Usually right below a line about checking the manufacturer.
What the heck am I doing wrong here? How do you mess up "install and hit run" or "click 'root'"? And is there a manual method I'm just missing somewhere? I've always found those more effective, and usually easier than trying to deglitch a one-click...
When using Gingerbreak, do you have usb debugging on?

Yup. I'm starting to wonder if something's a tad wonky with this one, though. If I take out the SD card, the computer doesn't always see the tab at all, and if it does it's only in Device Manager. I'm going to try my other laptop to see if it's related (I normally use this one since it's 32bit and there seem to be more glitches with 64bit).
Fastboot hangs at "waiting for device." SuperOneClick doesn't work on the other computer either. Same error message. ADB sees it. I am confused and getting very, very annoyed here...
I did read somewhere that the apk should be on the device and not the sd card. Also that the sd card should be formatted. I don't know if you had read the same. Just something to look at.

I had seen that, and that was the setup, but thank you for helping. I think it was either a connection or driver issue, although I'm pretty sure I had all the drivers installed properly. Wound up trying HoneyStreak, and that took Wanted to put TiBu on first, and to have a fully functional ROM, but I'll take no GPS over no root!

Streak 7 powers on directly to Clockwork

My streak 7 seems to boot directly into clockwork whenever I turn it on, and there seems to be no way to get it to get it to boot normally. I think this happened when i tried to unroot without removing clockwork first. what can I do?
EDIT: Got it into APX, gonna flash stock Froyo and update to Honey. If anyone has this problem, send them my way.
I'm having the same issue....

Need help restoring a T Mobile Streak 7 without CWM

Okay so I have been searching and trying methods on this forum for days to no avail. I had put Honeystreak onto my Streak and decided to go back. I have used the Nvflash method listed here and it will boot into Android but when you try to connect to wifi a few processes crash and it will not connect. I've tried finding info on what exactly to do with this fastboot method but all I ever see is "If this dosent work try fastboot" or they say to do something in CMW, but I do not have CWM installed.
I would really just like to get back to a fresh, working stock rom on a dell streak 7 tmobile that does not have CMW installed.
Well I have been able to get into fastboot now, and I have attempted to flash CMW. It says it is successful, but when I boot into recovery it is still just the stock recovery. What the hell could I be doing so wrong?
Can you uninstall apps or check things and they reset?
If you answered yes, your a proud owner a a dead streak 7 in read only mode. It has to sent back to dell
