How fast can ACE read an SD? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Accessories

Who can really answer this one? What is the maximum speed ACE can read data from an SD?
For example a reading speed for a class10 SD can reach 20MB/sec. So can ACE really cope with that?
I am asking this cause I also have a class4 with maximum read speed at 13MB/sec.
So, is there a limit at how fast ACE can read data from an SD? It hasn't got a very powerful processor so is there really a need for a class10?
Do not tell me about write speed, that I know!

My SlaidMod script boost your SD write/read to make it very fast even with A2SD darktremator!!!

Yes I know man but that was not the question and...
...ooops, I posted in wrong section, Can a moderator please move this to general talk, thanks and sorry for that!

don't worry. the bus speeds between the RAM module (most likely a LPDDR1 RAM) and the CPU is much much faster than that (at least 200MB/s). The bus connecting the SD card reader and the CPU also have a good bandwidth and therefore you can be sure that whatever Class rating of your SD card is, it won't go to waste.
As a side point, do take note that Class rating of different brands are not the same in real speeds. E.g. Sandisk Class 2 is faster than Kingston Class 2.

Now go to this link to test the read/write speeds of your card.H2test2 1.4.
Just take note that this app is written by a German and so take some time to slowly navigate it. Also how this thing works is that it auto generates a file and send it back and forth from your computer and the sd card. Which means that ideally you should clear your whole card so that the utility can work. However the utility can work with whatever free space your sd card has currently. Meaning only the read/write speeds of the "empty" space gets tested, not the entire card if you get what i mean.

$29.99 Class 10 16GB Micro SD card

Hey guys. I was just looking at Slickdeals.com and came across this AWESOME deal: http://www.frys.com/product/6427462
It's a Wintec (American company) Class 10 16GB Micro SD card... for TWENTY NINE NINETY NINE. I don't know about you, but that's the best deal I've EVER seen for a SD card of that speed and capacity.
Awesome. I would've jumped on it right away if I didn't get an 8GB class 10 a month ago

Regardless of whether it can or cannot read that class, generally when I transfer files, especially larger ones, to the sdcard I use my microSD mount. So the higher class helps there.

I got my patriot class 10 4gb card from newegg for $10. even though the hero doesnt support SD3 it still makes a huge difference. On the app sd benchmark I have the top score for the hero on froyo. and I'm on the top 25 list.

Most cards state the minimum write speed so in this case it is 2mb per second but usually the speeds are higher especially with brand name cards. My class 2 Sandisk card writes at class 6 speeds, test it with a reader connected to the pc.
It seems the product is no longer available.

BottleNeck SDHC Class

I have a Class 2 right now. I know, "groan".
But i want to get a HIGHER class.
At what class number on the G1 will I hit the bottleneck of the hardware?
What I'm asking is, is 6 the highest I can go and if I go to 8 it still performs like a 6 due to the slow reader in the phone?
Or can I go up to 8 class, 10 class, etc.
Also, I need someone to confirm that a high-class SDHC (like 8 or 10) even works on this phone, 8 or 16gb kind of thing.
Thanks for your input.
I want to get some o' dem swapz in here.
jcarrz1
I used to think grabbing a higher class card would be better too, i've actually bought a class 6 4gb and a class 4 8gb card, truth is it really don't matter what class you have..
Check this thread it made me see the truth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
I haven't really looked at class in detail
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
I'm filling in blanks here
it seems that a card will report it's class to the reader and it is then upto the application to decide if it meets it's requirements.
without pulling apart my G1 I have not been able to determine what the controller is to see find it's specs to see if there is a limit to what it can deal with in terms of through put.
I would like to think that the bottle neck is the card, and that a higher class card would be faster
a simple way of looking at it is that even if the G1 doesn't support 10MB/s
a card which does support 10MB/s is more likely to sustain 6MB/s better than a class 6
Sorry I can't provide a real answer here
I would look at the relative cost of class 6/10
if they are not disproportionate then I would go class 10
but if class 10 is 2 or 3 times the price, I would go class 6 (unless I had cash to throw away)
dmesg
Qualcomm MSM SDCC
Thanks for your input, both of you.
Is that script to increase performance that you linked to beneficial in-rom, or just in recovery?
Does that mean that upgrading the class 2 I already have is pointless??
could someone please run a test with the app called "SD Tools" in the market (someone with class 6)
tell me what rom and what speeds you get.
I get 4.3 mb/s write and 18.5 mb/s read. That's with a class 2 8gb on cos-ds WITHOUT SWAP running. <-- idk if that makes a difference.
I think I have a Kingston class 4 (possibly 6, i'm not sure) and my max was around 5.x mb write and 19.x mb read with SD Tools. That was with 2048kb sd cache.
that's not too much better than mine, the stat i posted above was 128, i got about the same as you with 2048.
It seems like you have to make the jump to class 10 in order to get decent speeds on an android phone.
if you take out the sd card and look at it, it will say the class inside a circle directly on the card.

run a few times and it will average out
on a few runs I get (approx)
write 6.5
read 18.5
this is a class 6
so
some class hedge bets and they are classX+
regardless of class read is the same
so for swap class matters, but you may get lucky
for apps2sd , it probably doesn't make much difference
BUT this is just one benchmark program, it could be flawed
maybe a simple script with time would be better, but then you have the memory caching etc to consider
still it is interesting so far, certainly the writes seem to fit(ish)

could be a hw limit
OR your card was just a re-badged china thing
try without swap running, and the app on internal
that could be getting in the way
the bm app writes to /mnt/sdcard/
Class 6 microSD 8gb, unknown producer (china )
Write speed = 6.5 MB/s
Read speed = 15.2 MB/s
I don't use no modified cache, no swap.
Using 2048kb cache:
Write speed = 6.3 MB/s
Read speed = 18.3 MB/s
Thanks for the cache trick

The Awesomeness of Swap. (700MB+ ram)

Mods, please move this thread to General or wherever you think it should belong. It started off as a question that I found the answer to myself after further looking, but now it seems like it'd be helpful for future reference for anyone.
I found this guide here and followed it step by step and I now have 700+MB ram xD. Performance has been increased drastically. I'm using a Micro SD 8GB Class 4.

Yes funeral, even if sd isn't partitioned, the swap file writes to the sd card, which has a limited number of writes. Swappiness at 100 takes a big toll on sd card life

Nah, set the swappiness lower. I'm gonna take it off though. I'll put it back on when I get my 8GB Class 10 and reinstall A2SD. Don't really have the need for swap at the moment since I don't have any heavy apps installed. Just wanted to see how it worked out. Works amazingly well.
Thanks for the tip, without the swap partition we can't keep on background more than 4 apps maybe, now I can keep 10+, I tested and it's great!

Haha. Glad I'm not the only one it's worked for. But you actually made a partition? The swap file is more convenient. You can change size at will and you don't have to touch your SD and it works exactly like a partition.

Well, what to say?! Not everything got better in newer versions, unfortunately. Google implemented a lot restrictions with regards to external SDcards.
However, I can't seem to spot any really consuming Apps in your Screenshot, except maybe the Games. Possibly helpful to post a shot of settings -> memory to sort it out.

ill be honest, i just want the ability to modify my sd card while on my phone. I often save large files and i store my music collection on my sd card along with my books and school work. Any way to write/modify any files on my sd card without root? Who at google thought it was a good idea to lock its users out of their own sd cards? Anyway ill just wait for a way to unlock the bootloader without losing drm keys and then eventually im sure a custom rom will come out. Until then ill just have to use my computer to modify my sd card. NBD.

Any app can write to its own folder on the SD card. Without root, no app except system apps can write to the whole SD card for security reasons. This will be changed with Android L (introduction of a new permission).

That's not what I meant, I use solid explorer but can't actually modify anything on the card just read. As the guy below you said only system apps can transfer stuff or it has to go into the android folder.
@OP:
I'm 90% sure you don't need a lot of those apps. Try and see if you really need **** and uninstall it if the launch count is below a certain threshold (back in Gingerbread, I set mine to once per month and I ended up uninstalling almost half my apps). Or try finding a lighter app that does the same thing.
Only once in my entire life was I able to fill up a 16GB device with apps only (on a 16GB Nexus 7), and even those were just games (of 100MB+ in size).
My point -- 16GB is more than enough for the majority of users, there is no reason for a developer to waste time doing edits to please the minority you are part of.
Also your OP is ridiculous. And the post isn't in the correct Forum subsection.
You're German ffs, show that! :ID
Just saw this thread and had to reply, because it seems like good news for everybody who owns an sd card
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...5-0-shows-google-still-loves-sd-cards-1271803
According to this google is loosening the sd card restrictions on the new android, at least as it regards storage of third party apps on the sd card.
Just wanted to share this to spread the hopefully true news, maybe an app2sd will also be implemented.
As I said three posts before
This thread absolutely does not belong in the Original Development subforum.
You could root and get xposed running which could fix your problem.
Trow away navigator, it's rubbish. Can use sygic and put the roadmaps on the sd. Saved me 4gb internal memory.

General Getting Low speed data transfer .. is ufs 2.2 worst than eMMC 5.1 ??

Now that I have RN10 Pro for more than a year while still keeping my old but gold samsung phone C9 Pro
I can tell you for sure that C9 although he has eMMC 5 Memory but still fastest notably than RN10 Pro when copying or moving files in the internal storage or between internal and sd card
or when transferring files to or from laptop and specially from laptop to phone
it could take a just 200 MB group of handreds small sized files a very long time to be copied to the phone maybe hour
while on C9 pro it take minutes
it is not a cable issue nor laptop side or damaged usb port
coz on samsung every thing work great and the transfer speed in the RN10 when copying from folder to another is shiiittyyy
So
WTF with UFS ??
Any one else have this issue ?? or could you try copeing bunch of small files from your pc to the phone and tell back how fast it was ?

I wish it was an sd card issue but it is not
try your self moving punch of files or folders from the internal storage to another location also in internal storage
it gives a very disappointed speed comparing to ufs 2.2 standards
my oldest c9 pro phone with an MMC5.1 flash memory chip gives a far higher transfer rate which is not logical and point directly to somthing not right in not only xiaomi RN10 Pro but also in others ufs 2.x xiaomi phones i tested it and found it the same
i really need a technical point of view to this issue and what could be the reason and if we can get it fixed coz i guess maybe it is related to some config or kernel / software thing

what i mean is the real scenario when you copy some files in between folders of the internal storage then you will find the real values not the theoritical ones
specially when copying lots of small files like whatsapp media folder for example
you can try to do this as a test and see yourself the disappointing results

díky brácho
jakou aplikaci jsi použil k tomu testu?

you are right that copying small files sometimes takes longer than larger ones...

look at that speed
what the hell is wrong, to me what is so confusing that in a much older device this never happens

podívej se na tu rychlost
co je sakra špatně, co je pro mě tak matoucí, že v mnohem starším zařízení se to nikdy nestane
