using update .zip - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i wanna know if its okay and has a low chance of bricking my phone if i use another update zip to modify my phone.
i mean, if i want to edit the lockscreen, can if i just take an update .zip designed for editing lockscreen(coz there is a lot of patch like that) and i just change the icons in the update zip? coz from what i understand, the meta inf file is the guide to where the patch should be apply right?
in short form, can i use another update zip, change some icons in it and apply it as usual? i dont know how to make one

[Q] Milestone2 2.3UI framework-res.apk

I just edit the framework-res.apk for my milestone2,
it have a black status bar now
but the text-color still black,I try deodex the services.odex ,edit it and smali
insert classes.dex into services.jar
adb push services.jar /system/framework
but it doesn't work... and cann't boot~~
what's the right way to deodex it?
I'm having problems deodexing too...
I used dsixda's Android Kitchen to deodex the framework from my system.img (created a blank boot.img to be able to load the files), but can't deodex android policy and service. They're the only two apks I can't deodex.
Someone could post a tutorial or already patched files.

PS: Could a mod put this into Dev Forum of MS2 ? Since deodexing & Framework stuff is less or more developing..
I'm having black bar since the second day of my phone...
so if u don't want to bother:
download metamorph from market and open this file and apply:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YQ8CDVBU
you have to be rooted!
not my work somebody made it here on xda i just couldn't find the threat now...

[Q] How does the skin changer work?

I have been thinking about this for some time now ... How does the htc sense skin changer work? From my experience with android ... A change to framework-res.apk needs a reboot to take full effect ... Like the metamorph app ... It works similarly ... It takes the files from ur sdcard and patches the framework ...
This is where im confused ... To make changes like this ... U need to be rooted and also need to reboot ... And even if it worked the same way wouldnt nand lock just restore it? How is it this skin changer works? If it does work this way ... How the heck does it stay the same ... Or is it like framework-res.apk is an empty shell that has links to the external files?
Could some1 with root please give their framework-res.apk before and after changing the skin? Like from htc to slate or wood ... I want to see what is really happening here ...
Ps if this belongs in the general please could the mod move there? Im extremly sorry if it does ... It is related to root and nand lock so i thought id post here ...

hmm, when u got temp root check for the rights that are set on the file, on this way you probably get you answer
what i think is that specific files are excluded, so they are editable
btw isnt the skinchanger for the launcher only? than its mostlikely just an xml thats been loaded...
it changes the notification bar too
It's a good question, one I am surprised I didn't wonder... I will pull a part the apk to see if I find anything
It doesn't replace the framework-res, because the battery mod sticks when changing theme, so I presume it overlays it in some way
Please test this app.
http://www.androidblip.com/android-apps/quick-reboot-96948.html
Teoretical this reboot ONLY all android processes and Android Interface but NOT physically phone.
Maybe modified files on partition / and partition /system (eg flamework) will not disappear ...

Ok guys i ripped up the frameworks before and after changing skins ... And they were the exact same thing ... It seems that the skin changer overlays the existing looks with the theme ... So no changes to the frameworks ... It just overlaps the.framework images with external ones ...
Wow

But where is it mirrored? Could sum1 with some app experice please check the code out? There are two possibilties here ... Either it is mirror from somewhere in the system partition ... So it can bypass nandlock ... Or it is mirrored from the sdcard ... So we can make our own themes even for s-on devices

Now I don't have Incredible, so I can't check this,
Here skins for Sense 2.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801928
And here for Sense 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048894
The Desire HD until it wasn't S-OFF: First temp root then paste modified "framework-res.apk ' to /system/framework, then hot-reboot (eg this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.grrmode.quickreboot&feature=search_result), and this worked, maybe it's same with Incredible S?
No i mean like ... The app dosent even touch the feameworks ... It works from files from somewhere else ... Is that /system or the sdcard? Like if u download an extra skin from the HTC Hub... Where is it stored?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Skins taken from HTC HUB, are simply installing APK to "/data/app".
Flamework-res.apk is in /system/framework to be applied need to reboot the phone. In DHD, when there was no S-OFF helped hot-reboot, it restart android interface but modified files stayed.
APK files modify with eg Winrar
So its in /data/app ... Damn ... Hoping it was on the sdcard ... Too bad
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Skins HTC Sense: these are the files APK that install like any other program in the (/data/app.) It does not require permanent root, and do not delete at reboot
But you can move through the application manager to the memory card ...
Here tutorial, how create skins for Sense 2.0:

[Q] how to add new lockscreens?

hi there
i have alfs 07 and gingerdx 22 and use ICS blue theme.
i really love the ring halo style lock screen, but gdx doesnt have it.
is there a way to add it?
U can edit framework, but I hardly recommend u to not doing it if u re new user. The other way is to use Widgett locker. I think its free in market but i wont give a hand for that : D
Wysłano z x8 dzięki Tapatalk i LewaOS
Well, yes you can edit framework. You can also add it to the system directory. I could try and make a framework patch .zip if you want. Just send me your lock screen, and I will compile into a zip and you can flash

ok, after looking at the files on my computer, here is my thoughts

[GT-9100G] and UOT Kitchen ?

I have major concerns with UOT ...
I created my zip for S2 in the same way as for my ex GlalaxyNote.
but impossible to install it via CMW on official ROM, or on SuperRom3.
I'd love to know if any of you managed to use its UOT S2 G
of course u cant flash it...coz there some script missing in it...
i use UOT kitchen too..but no to make the themes.i use it for modded the framework-res.apk,systemui.apk and twframework.apk...
after cooked and download i pull out the framework-res.apk,systemui.apk and twframework.apk using 7zip and put it back to its place...
haha...

tell me if I understand ...
- you get the ZIP-manufactured by UOT
- you do not flash via CMW
- You unzipped the three files "framework-res.apk, and systemui.apk twframework.apk" instead of the original
and you get the same results? (for me I just want icons and battery)
ya...i just want to make it for my battery only...ahaks...
had try to make it works by using other theme zip..by pulling all its folders into the zip and removing all the thing inside the previous theme zip im using it except meta files and some of its script..i can flash it,but the themes not there...same as do we port a theme...
Thank !
after multiple reboot it's working find now ...
i have now a reason to keep rooted

Btw, u can also push the framework or systemui using adb..or by replacing files using root explorer..make sure ur root explorer is mounted to rw (top right corner) b4 u replacing any files in system..

Anyone know how to undo UOT effects? I used a update-binary script from some other flashable theme and inserted it into the downloaded UOT zip and successfully CWM flash onto my odexed KL3. Then I had further deoxed it..no problem... but i am unable to flash any themes...found here.... i always get boot loop.... i think its something to do with settings.uot file not compatible with the themes
I wanna go back to original deodexed state... any SIMPLE way to "undo" UOT 's effect?
I'd reckon i'd have to flash back stock odex KL3 and deodex again... any simpler way?

before any "significant change" should always make a FULL backup to avoid the kind of problem you have ...
I had not done badly and took me in!
Sometimes a simple reflash of the ROM is sufficient but not always, unfortunately.
I do not know if a simpler way is possible but if you find roms "deodexed stock" here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529995
And other way is,to copy ur framework-res.apk,twframework.apk & ur systemui.apk using root explorer to ur sd card before modded anything...easy for u to revert back it u want to flash theme on stock deodexed...

[Guide] How to Change Fonts for the ROM?

I've seen this question many times during last few days and even got a few PMs also regarding this and answering repetitively is tiresome and not so creative so thought of creating a thread specially for this, Nothing new, no rocket science but helpful, hope you find the same
Recovery Method
Download any one of the font
Goto CWM
Select Mount and storage
Mount System
Flash the downloaded File
ICS Roboto Font
Gingerbread Stock Font
Other Flashable Font files along sample can be found here
Font changer Method
Install Font Changer from play store
put the desired fonts in the folder .fontchanger created in the root of your SDcard, open the app and apply the desired font.
usually I use second method. coz its easy for any fonts. no need to search for flashable zip and original font can be backup for further use.
try rom toolbox
I think it doesnt work on ICS ROM
I see on system/fonts and few font files was linked to "roboto font",,even I change with CWM/Manual(with root explorer) it doesnt works mate
I like use SonySketch fonts

I believe what OP mean in this thread is only for MoKee OS. And also as he said, the zip file attached to be flashed is an answer of some people who ask him how to make roboto font as default font.

Is this safe ?
I wanted to ask if this is completely safe cos I've had bad experiences everytime I tried tampering with my device. Also do these methods work on gingerbread ??

As far i know this should work on any gingerbread rom, but on ics or jb you need to create metadata for changing the font as their symlinked to the rom. Cmiiw
