Hey guys....
I need to verify something with those of you who own a T-Mobile US Branded Galaxy Tablet *AND* have upgraded to the 2.3.3 post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854
Here's the steps.
1) Once you have upgraded to the new GB rom for your T-MoUS Galaxy Tab, get the free Ray Dialer from the android app store.
2) Stick in a SIM with voice on it.
3) Open Ray Dialer
4) Call a phone number.
Mine worked. I need to see if it works for others.
Not sure why you need verification if it works for you?
Since the GB upgrade flashes a voice capable modem, this is exactly what I'd expect, with the only downside being you'll have lost 3G. Also, why install another dialer when one is already there?
Regards,
Dave
I just use line2 for ten bucks a month and grooveip to make all my calls. Line2 gives your tab a new phone number that allows you to call and keep 3g. Cmon, 10 bucks a month for unlimited calls is the best cell plan out there. Plus you can try it for 5 days free.
Hit the thanks button if I have helped.

i have galaxy tab sgh-t849 (tmobile) and i've installed the Euro firmware and modem switch. which means i either have hspa with no call functionality, or edge + voice.
does anyone know if there is a way to have both voice and hspa at the same time?
Thanks a lot !
use Skype to make your calls and set Skype up so that the receiving phone views your phone number instead of the Skype issued number. same thing effectively. If you can port your number over to Google Voice even better.

yea, i've though about that. but it will cost $$ to buy skype credit and seem like google voice doesnt really help much either.
thanks for the advice tho.
I was wondering if there was a wp7 app that would let me make AND receive calls using my google voice number. I just got an HD2 and wont be getting service for it till my sprint contract is up, so i thought it would be nice to still be able to use it a bit till then.
Have you tried MetroTalk ? But it can't be integrated with the phone part of the OS
Hi,
im new to this forum and im kind of desperate as i lost my phone tomorrow, so in need of a phone asap.
i stumbled upon this samsung galaxy camera yesterday but the salesperson told me it does not have voice call function unless you use skype and stuff. but skype is not being used frequently in singapore.
so is there any apps which i can use to make normal voice calls in singapore?
i read through the forum, there are apps like GrooveIP but when i check on it, it only supports in US or Canada.
thus need some advice on any apps that i can use for normal voice calls.
thank you
as far as I know Skype does exactly what you want if you get a paid subscription.
the free version only allows calls to Skype clients, but if you pay you can also call regular phone numbers(mobile and home).
try mobilevoip.its free in singapore
Hi xda. Foolishly purchased this tablet ( LTE variety ) thinking it could make calls, but despite installing third-party dialers including Googles nothing seems to work because it would seem that this functionality has been removed from OS ? Does anybody know if there is a way to enable voice calls ( not VOIP, Skype or any other data call ) ?
Pretty sure the stock dialer should be working.
I have the SM-T395 and it doesn't show any issues on this matter.
maybe copy logcat while trying to use the dialer and we can take a look.

It would seem that the first step is to try to set "config_voice_capable" parameter to true in "framework-res.apk." This has apparently worked on other tablets. If this doesn't work then perhaps a limitation with baseband version.
found the same issue
sm-t397 cant make phone calls
For a T-397 (and the T-285 as well), you have to have the carrier-side (i.e. your plan) set up as a PHONE, not a TABLET.
You also have to use a phone APN.
If you set them up as a tablet, the carrier-side software blocks the phone function.
If the salesperson is confused about this, just tell them you want to get texts on the tablet.
