I am looking for a phone to get my mum for Christmas and have been considering Optimus Black as a possibility. The phone looks so sexy and sleek but its screen is large and the display awesome. It's not a high performance phone but that means it isn't as expensive which is good for me
That brings me to the point about the pending gingerbread update and its possible benefits or drawbacks. I was at Telus (I live in Canada) today and tested out one of them and found it to be slightly twitchy. Scrolling from canvas to canvas and up and down through the launcher wasn't too bad. But when I was adding widgets and zooming in and out of the homescreens it started to respond more slowly. My mother will mostly browse the web and stream videos but I didn't get a chance to try those features out because the lack of a wifi connection. I am worried that it might not be as smooth as I'd hoped it to be and
that my mom will start complaining that I didn't get her an iphone
What I want to ask current OB users is:
1) How do you find the web browsing and Youtube video streaming (as well as streaming 720p videos)?
2) Will the Gingerbread update make the overall experience smoother or slower (the guy at Telus said the Gingerbread update will in fact make it slower)??
Thanks for reading and giving your advice!
Hi,
I'm considering this phone too.
I really doubt that GB will be Slower than Froyo. Every single review that i saw, said that this phone will be faster with GB.
The main thing that i'm not so sure about this phone is ICS Support and availability , so i'm considering Xperia Neo too.(it already has GB ROM)
True. If ICS support is important for you, going with sony ericsson's 2011 phones is your best bet.
Btw, what's the difference between the neo and the neo v? They look exactly the same and they seem to be exactly the same on paper except for the camera (I'm guessing that 's what the V stands for) :-$
It's not even like the xperia arc and the xperia arc s where the s was somewhat of an upgrade...

Hi,
Difference between those two is : sony factory in Thailand has problems supplying ExmorR 8MP CMOS Sensors , so they downgraded it to 5MP, and also some minor software changes.(BTW , i'm not sure about screen quality of Neo vs Black too)
Backing to your Question: again I don't think GB will cause more problem than Froyo.
Oh I see! wish there was a shop that had all the phones in the world
Not just plastic models :-(
But thanks for your reply. OB does seem like a solid choice though se, phones look tempting too. Any other phones you're looking at that 's around that price range?

Hi,
Another option that i'm looking at is Samsung Google Nexus S (i9023). In my country price difference between them is around 50~60$. It doesn't have SD Card or Radio FM , but 16 GB Internal memory and from DEC 17 , Google started to roll out ICS for this phone (all carriers should get it in 1 month time frame).
In canada i think it's available with Bell & Virgin mobile & NCIX is selling unlock version for 350 (special sale)
I've got the Samsung Galaxy S II X from Telus a few days ago and I'm thinking of taking it back and getting the LG Optimus black.
The GS II is sooo big. You must sign a 3 year contract for it and Telus evaluates the device to 600$.
Right now the Optimus black is 299$ (0$ with just a 2 year contract).
I like the fact the screen on the LG is IPS and it also has the Gorilla Glass.
BTW: Coming form Motorola Milestone must say Gingerbread (latest Cyanogen Mod 7) is the best thing that happened.
The battery life improved (was getting 2-3 days) and the degree of customization is fantastic.
CM7 for Optimus Black is already available so I would worry more about the official ICS for Optimus Black.
I've seen a post where someone was quoting LG UK on Facebook that ICS will come on Optimus Black in 2012.

Hi,
If the size is your main reason to change (Beside that SGSII has superior hardware compare to Optimus Black) , then don't do it.
SGSII Dimentions : 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm
Optimus Black Dimentions : 122 x 64 x 9.2 mm
The difference (3mm) is almost nothing. Check this too :
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3704&idPhone2=3621
Beside that , SGSII will have official ICS ROM but Optimus Black, i don't know ..
and if official ICS is too important ,you can go with Google Nexus S (already has ICS)
My second smartphone at home is my daughter's Xperia Neo V.
In my opinion:
Neo is slightly smaller so better for smaller women's hands ( better grip )
Black's display is better ( more crisp )
OB vs GSII

I had no idea the dimensions are so close.
Thanks for pointing this out.
In the end, I think the SGS II is a keeper. I guess I over reacted reading all the stuff about the flash counter, amoled burnin, etc.
Correction:
I checked the specs myself and the SGS II that Telus sells is the Hercules version so here is the comparison:
Optimus Black: 122 x 64 x 9.2 mm / 109g / 4.5" screen
SGS II X : 131 x 67.3 x 9.4 mm / 109g / 4.0" screen
Still not too big of a difference.

Hi guys, I currently own a Nexus One. I wanted to replace it for a while so I have selected these two phones, their hardware specs are pretty similar and obviously nexus s has the latest software but I like optimus black look. So please help me decide, will there be an official 2.3.4 update for optimus black anytime soon?
UPDATE
Bought optimus 2x, happy with the phone.
Nexus S has a slightly stronger CPU and much stronger GPU (which would only matter if you're planning on running 3D-heavy apps).
Optimus Black has better screen (compared to the i9023, SC-LCD version), due to Google's washing out the colors in Nexus S since 2.3.3.
LG is known to be late in its software updates (the Gingerbread will come, but not anytime soon).
How 'bout them HTC phones? If you don't really emphasize camera image quality, them's got excellent phones (Incredible S comes to mind)
PS: by 3D-heavy I meant polygon-heavy, not jump-out-of-the-screen heavy.
I wouldn't buy an Optimus Black. It really has nothing going for it expect that it has a nice screen and is very thin.
Especially the lack of a broad range of customs ROMs until recently is sad.
The next phone I buy has to have working Cyanogenmod, I really miss the ROM and it's features. Optimus 2X is worth a look IMHO, however there's still some trouble with bluetooth audio AFAIK. Can't comment on the other phones, but don't get a OB.
Okay, i have been using O2x for a month and i feel that on performance wise is just average.
So i would like to ask people out here to rate these 4 phone on performance basics:
(1 - 5, 5 being the best)
Samsung Galaxy S II
HTC Sensation
Motorola Atrix
LG Optimus 2x
With a custom rom and CPU at the same speed as Galaxy 2, you get almost the same scores.
People have to inform wich rom and Cpu speed they are using.
Otherwise this threat has no use.

i dont know how the performance of the other devices is but the stock o2x system is really slow compared to cm7 and probably most custom roms.

I have my O2X with CM7.
Love it. Infact, i like this better than the SGSII. The SGSII's build quality turn me off actually.
Just have a couple of problems now:
1. Battery could be slightly better
2. The LCD Bleeding is still a bit irritating.
I have been reading screen bleeding, but what does screen bleeding means?
Agree CM7 is really good. To bad about the A2DP.

You get what you pay for. And o2x is the best at this. For less than 340€ you get dual core, tegra, nice screen.
If money isnt a factor go for S2

SGS2 vs O2X
As of now I`m epecting my O2X to arrive within the next days, giving away a, besides crappy batterylife, excellent SGS2. But after a line of only HTC made handsets and therewith highest quality experienced ever, I just can`t live with only one day juice on actually doing NOTHING than just NOT touching the phone, maybe one or two short calls. So from my point of view: As long as battery threads filling every known forum for SGS2 ---> hands off!!
Performance is brilliant though.........
Hope O2X can do at least better here.
If you don't touch it you'll get more than a day, if you use it, not so much.
Would wish I had bought the Galaxy S2 instead
I own all of the phones listed above, the S2 is great on stock, 2X is god on CM7. Atrix is no good. Sensation is pretty much average but is snappy.
So preferences based on performance.
1. S2 - Stock Rom PWNS
2. 2X - CM7s Top pick
3. Sensation - Dust specs in screen.
4. Atrix - No good CFW, stock is dead too.
Haha i also wish i have bought the sgs2

in original form the phone is junk, sure it's basic android but LG dropped the ball with putting 2.2.2 on this device. after rooting the phone and installing CM7 the phone is pure magic. Everything flies, smooth, that's how it should of been from the beginning. Either way i'm jumping ship when nexus prime comes out.
Adding to you your rank, i think the 2x is better than the sII due to the fact the sII feels like paper in my hand. Construction wise it's crap, i rather have some weight to my phone than a piece of paper, hardware wise the sII is better with a better screen/pictures/video but i think the phones are on par if you update the 2x to CM7. I havn't use any of the other phones.
I bought 2 LG Optimus 2X - one had many problems with reboots and lockups, this one I have now replaced with an SGS II
So currently I have the O2x and the SGS II (my son uses the O2x)
No doubt the SGS II is wastly superior to the O2x - stock rom just works so beautifully, partly because of more ram and a newer Android version, partly because of less bugs than the O2x. The camera is much better on the SGS II for still photography and alot faster to use to, but videorecording I find is better on the O2x (mainly better sound quality).
Construction wise the SGS II is not crap at all, just because its lighter doesnt make it crap. The construction build are actually very good, theres no squicking or anything and its very sturdy despite being so light. I had my fears regarding the SGS II feeling to plasticy but it doesnt. The thin backplate are very flexible and almost unbreakable.
The big screen is nice, quality of screen is very good, allthough the O2x screen have better whites. Touchresponse of the SGS II are better than the O2x. Battery last longer in the SGS II, I almost get 3 days of average use, where i get 1½-2 days max on the O2x. Music and video are a joy to play. And theres no sign of any lag anywhere. Not like on the O2x where it lags when you install from market for instanse.
I still like the O2x, it got nice design, feels like quality, hardware is good, the LG software changes are not too intrusive to basic android, but it simply just doesnt perform the way it should. LG messed up with this.
To many problems with the reebooting and lockups still being experienced by so many people even after almost 6 months since release. And even when it doesnt reboot or lockup its still running a flawed Android Froyo 2.2 which lags in situations where it shouldent (being a powerfull dualcore phone etc.) - you just dont feel like theres any headroom, like you do on the SGS II where the feeling is more like "nothing can slow down this phone". Just feels completely snappy all the time no matter what you do.
I have a friend who just bought an O2x 2 weeks ago, and he is now also experiencing the random reboots and lockups, despite being on latest stock firmware and the phone being completely new (so not some early batch).
Sure you can install custom roms, most have issues of their own and most dont really make the phone that more stable or that more fast or fluent/smooth in daily operations (I dont care what various test software scores are, its real life performance that count) - besides one should never have to install custom rom's to make a phone usable, this is the manufacturers responsibility. Sure you can install custom rom if you want to play around, but it shouldent have to be a nescessity or something being recommended to "fix the phone functionality". You buy a phone, it should work out of the box, period.
All in all I cant really recommend the O2x anymore, sadly. To much of a risk of getting a phone that wont make you satisfied because of the various issues.
It may change when gingerbread are released, but seing what LG has done sofar during 6 months for this phone doesnt leave me impressed or expecting any wonders from their gingerbread
after 3 months using o2x, LG made major mistakes
1. they stock rom is 2.2 if we compare from sgs2, htc sensation. they already use 2.3 for their stock. even atrix which has the stock from 2.2 they can do the fast upgrade to 2.3 rather than o2x.
2. the memory of o2x is low compare with sgs2(1GB), sensation(768MB), atrix(1GB). this is dual core phone and why LG only put the memory 512MB???
and the cpu is still in the same range between sgs2,sensation, and atrix.
that's my opinion
i have one random reboot(using old rom v10b) upgrade to v10dESA, v10dEUROPE, and v10eESA no random reboot, and have problem once with the wifi but after the baseband is upgrade it's ok so i can't complain about it
I think the Optimus 2x is a great phone, just that the software portion needs more customizing. Hardware wise I think the 2x can compete with the rest.

I bought it one year a ago and at this time it was the best phone out there. Since a lot of people bought it, there are many custom roms. Cyanogenmod 7 runs great and it gets a lot of support by MoDaCo since Paul O'Brian has got a source where he gets leaked updates and stuff. My O2X runs Temaseks Kang#52 and Vadonkas Etana Kernel with 32 MB ram hack.
But if I were to buy a new phone right now I'd wait for the new Models coming out. Because I want a 4,3 - 4,5 inch 1280x720p display without hardware buttons. I think it's worth waiting for it.

Hi
I am also from India ,recently bought this phone and i must say it has been awesome!I don't think there any competition for this phone being priced this low.Its like you are getting a high-end device for the price of mid range device.Near competitors are Galaxy R, Nexus S and Xperia Ray.But the Nexus and Ray are equipped with only single core processor and Galaxy R has similar specs as 2x but lacks gorilla glass,IPS and 8MP.
The main issue with the device is the volume.
Moreover since it was released nearly a year ago developments have flourished hence the device has good support from developers. The sole disadvantage is that the device is from LG and LG support has not been good.
PS-Galaxy S2 is priced at 30k($600) in India while 2x is at 20k($400)...and i don't see a 10k($200) difference.
The above comment is based on the scenario in Indian markets. New devices will always be priced high in Indian market.
Agree with the above.
For the time being I don't see any other device with such a good price/quality ratio as this phone. I've been "abusing" it for almost two weeks now and I think it's great. And I'm still on stock!
same here,
this phone gives a very good value for the money.
it has its issues but again worth every euro spent here in the NL
(220 euro) while SG2 is double the money and has a really bad plastic quality feel (i have them in my company and all the sales rep hate me because of that)
so yeh this phone is great with 2nd generation chips so just dip it into some nice roms / kernel and bon-appetite
The best choice is samsung Galaxy SII for 400$.

With a custom kang kernel and rom you can get around two days with moderate use.
Best phone Optimus 2X and cheap too for this performance.
I wouldn't swap my O2X for any other phone out there at the minute. Stick CM7 / MIUI on it and enjoy the best performance to price ratio...
I would say the O2X is a very sweet phone, but i would save up for the S2.
In terms of performance, both are close if you flash CM7 Temasek Kang + Vadonka's new kernel (3 feb) for the O2X.
Battery life on both is amazing.
But the S2 is slimmer, lighter, better screen (Amo-LED).
Even if you get the O2X, you will not be disappointed My O2X is beating my friends S2 (ICS rom) in benchmarks, browsing and battery life

I converted rupees to pounds and your right about it in terms of money. I got mine for £200 delivered, but conversions show 20k rupee is about £260. So if its another 10k more (50% more), then it would be about £330. This is abit much for the S2 when compared to the 2X that basically performs the same.
In the UK, the pricing is crazy, but if we had the choice to pay another 50% for the S2, most of us would. Its seen as the top end phone that is also a fashion phone. Build quality on both are good, but the S2 is thinner and lighter.
Screen is subjective to the user since the 2X has an IPS screen which is fantastic compared to normal LCD and all those other screen types. But Amo-LED is very different. To me personally, the colours are more vibrant and contrast is much bigger at lower brightness.
Anyway, it depends on if your willing to spend abit more and if its quick to make that money. Same technology rules apply. There will always be better, and the extras in the S2 would be like future-proofing for next gen crazy software
For best value to performance ratio you can't beat this phone.

See theres really no need to pay 10k extra for some eye candy and ram, I'd rather save those 10k and a year later sell off my o2x and buy a quad core phone , sgs2 is old now since sgs3 closer, but if o2x would still be selling for 26k like the release price it would have been a better choice to put in 2k more and buy a sgs2

For the price -lg optimus 2x is the best you can get with its price.
For the quality- lg 2x cost less than some 1 core phones so you should ask yourself why.
Even with kang's, cyanogenmod roms there are some problems that are not just ''eye candy''.
Lg official support sucks- don't ever expect anything from them, they make promises just like in politics.
I can tell you what problems i got with the cyanogenmod roms and kangs:
-camera quality is really really low for a 8mpx camera- sgs2 has way better video/photo quality- videos cannot be called hd videos- that's an insult for hd definition-no autofocus in videos;
-hdmi has some problems in cyanogenmod but is good on stock rom- sometimes i get a few seconds of black screen idk why, it still happens with tamasek's kang 55
-often when i go to sleep and put the phone into charge with an alarm on, in the morning the alarm doesn't start and the phone's screen is just black-can be solved only by removing the battery;
-having 150mb ram free is not only an eye candy problem;
A better screen (amoled is another life-if you have the opportunity try looking at the same photo on the 2 phones and you will see a HUGE difference), a better camera, more ram, more internal memory, ICS- i think those things worth the price difference.
Still, for its price is the best choice , for its quality it is not. I have an o2x but only because i was too stupid to wait 1 more month and get the sgs2 (, think how i feel now when i get less than half of what i paid it if i want to sell it!
Is the O2X a good phone? Just look at how many good devs we've got working with it -that should tell you something!
I've had mine since late last spring and nothing that's come out since has given me a reason to change...
Have flashed a lot of ROMs and am presently running Temasek's CM7 Kang No 53 and the most recent version of Vadonka's ETaNa kernel -fantastic stuff.
Buy one. You won't be sorry.
What do you think about this phone (L9) ? I've read that it works smoothly and battery lasts a long time. In my country the phone costs 900PLN. For example Lg 4X costs about 1350PLN and I can sell my black for 500PLN. I would like to buy, but I do not know if it is worth it. It have dual-core proccesor and SGX540 and 4,7 IPS screen with a little higher resolution. Gpu is old, I think. I can not decide and I'm waiting for a good answer. Sorry for my bad English.
Its like "hanging in palm tree after falling from sky" (A hindi proverb translated roughly). Sell ur OB and dont look back for LG. I m yet amazed you are going to buy another mobile from LG. IMO go for HTC as they have very vast support by XDA and their updates are good too.

HTC = locked bootloader and if you dont know how to you could brick the phone.
as I always recommend, go for an AOSP device Galaxy nexus or the next nexus4 (made by LG) or some of the new xperias.
Yea, but in my sweet country Nexus 4 costs two times more and it doesn't have microsd slot. If thera is 32gb model of this phone, sure I will buy it. I saw on the youtube that L9 is very smooth, have good performance, good battery, nice screen(I don't need a full hd in phone) and good looking.
I have tried this phone and i can tell you that it is very smooth in comparision to another smatphone like optimus l7. Also the materials (for me) are really good, i also would buy l9 because it doesn't costs much for what it offers

No company gives free nothing.. Just think why the L series cost is less than Optimus Black
You compare the LG Optimus Black and L series in some sites, nothing L series is better than Optimus Black except ICS version for now (of course now we will get soon official ICS for optimus black in couple of weeks)
So decision is yours..

Optimus L9 seems to be a lot berrer than Optimus Black
L9 is better than P970 for most things, but according to GSMArena it doesn't have GPU and it will choke on high graphics games.
@pkb_always4
It depends on what phone you have not the brand. It varies. Out P970 community is better than a lot of HTC phones just as some HTC phones community is better than ours. Were alot better of than most phones this old since other companies like HTC decides rather not to give updates than take a while longer to release them (Even though they're supposed to but Google doesn't enforce it strictly enough). If you want a guaranteed awesome phone, awesome community and awesome official then theres only Nexus. The only problem is that it's expensive.

Hey bro, I think on gsmarena, he just took the wrong phone... here are the full specs:
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_l9_p760-4955.php
So the gpu is: PowerVR SGX540
But no clue of how good it is...

I looked at P769 which is also L9.
The SGX540 is a very good GPU.
If thats the phone he was talking about then its much better than P970.
It have OMAP 4430, the same have razr and prada 3.0. But i thought that sgx 540 is old. This gpu is in the first galaxy s.

It won't give you lag. You don't need more than that.
I'm decided, but does not want to leave our community. Unfortunately, this the way of things. My Lg Black will go to my brother. I don't why so many people complain about p970. It's a very good phone even now(but yea with Zeus ). I will sure keep checking here still. We have a very good developers. I'm sure that someone go for the Lg L9 too. And thanks for reply.
Same GPU as the Nexus S/Galaxy S, so it's better than the OB but not that much, compared to the Mali 400 in the Galaxy S II/S III and Xperia U/P. The Xperias have the same CPU as the L9.

I picked up a p769 L9 and I must say I'm impressed! The screen is beautiful and the phone is snappy! It makes me forget about my G2x. I'd love to see CM10.1 on it. It would run it perfectly! Only drawback I've seen so far... I can't seem to get Voice Dialing to work. What gives?

Strange! The first thing I tried calling my wife from ShowRoom was to call with voice dial. Any ICS have built in support for that. Just press google voice and say "Call Wife" and phone will call your wife. And yes, I am also coming from O2x, almost same device.

Well said. I am long time hater of LG for its slow support, but pals, THEY MAKE UNBRICKABLE PHONES. LG Support Tool always UNBRICKED every phone (which I know). This is TOPMOST best feature of LG. Now about slow or no support, who cares? We have XDA One of my friend already bricked HTC phone last year and later sold it in scrap.
This is the reason, this week only, I upgraded to new economical but still strong model LG L9 with 4.7" screen. Long duration Li-Ion 2150 mAh battery, which gives two full working days (and roaming also) which is rare in most Android Smartphones. So now people should stop cursing them, like I did. I also recommend all for LG Nexus 4 if good budget, else go for L9.
EDIT: How LG phones are unbrickable? When you press few HARDWARE buttons on phone simultaneously the phone hardware puts phone in SW Upgrade Mode. No matter phone is bricked or working. In this mode most devices download full rom with the help of LG Support Tool and your phone is back in action.
Most (not all) of the phones from other companies does not even come in such upgrade mode and you loose chances of bringing LIFE back to phone, leaving only one option to send to Service Center and well you know how much they charge. I did not pay a single penny to Service Center for any of my bricked phones.
here are the main differences ...
connectivity:
.p970 Has a gyroscope , l9 not
p970 can be used as a WiFi hot spot l9 not.
l9 Has DLNA p970 not.
camera:
Clearly better video recording quality 1080p @30 fps (l9) vs 720p @30 fps (p970)
power
Appreciably more battery power 2,150 mAh (l9) vs 1,500 mAh (p970) => 44% more battery power
i couldnt send the link im still new in this forum , its from versusio
Hello!
I had the LG Optimus 4X HD and I loved it, but unfortunately i has been stoled.
Now I'm in doubt, buy the LG P880 again or adventure with Galaxy SIII?
The price here in Brazil is a small difference between them, and then what should I choose?
Thanks u guys
Let's make a small comparision here. ( this is only my opinion)
Advantages of the 4X HD:
+ better screen
+ I prefer the design of the O4X than the S3
+ Cheaper
Advantages of the S3
+ Battery is better
+ More software updates and custom ROMs
That's what i think. Hope that will help you.

A little addition to it:
4X HD:
+Games lags a lot even of tegra.
+Tegra gives more graphics.
+Loud speaker sound isn't much loud.
+Old 40 nm process, means high heat production.
+Optimus UI 3.0.
+Better battery saving on music play only.
Don't buy s3 if you loved your 4x then go for optimus G it's better

Since the point was to split the comments in advantages/disadvantages of the 4X against advantages/disadvantages of the S3, I've fixed your list for you.
Btw, I didn't know if you meant the UI 3.0 as a pro or a con, so I left it as a plus.

Agreed.
IMO, it all depends on what you can afford and what you liked/disliked in the LG.
Quality-wise, I'd say it's LG 4x < Samsung S3 < LG Optimus G. So, if you can afford the S3 and not the Optimus G go for the S3, if you can afford either, go for the Optimus G.
Although if you have a penchant for the LG form factor as I do, you'll save a bit (and/or wait till the Optimus G's price goes down a bit) and forget about the S3.
That said, it's all about the experience so, if you can go to a store and try the S3 and the Optimus G

Very very thanks guys!!!!
I'd say S3 if the price is close
I chose the O4X as it was much cheaper than the S3.
If the price is only a slight difference, definitely get the S3.

I extensively tried my own 4X HD, my father's S3 and my sister's Nexus 4.. I found Nexus 4 is the best...
The price in HK are almost the same for these 3 phones now.

Man I am from Brazil too, if you can save a little more (I don't know if you are able) I would get a Xperia ZQ.
But if we compare only both of the fones (OX4 and SIII)
I just had the same question at the end i've chosed OX4, they are saying that SIII has a bad quality gorilla glass in Brazil. I don't know for sure.
Design of OX4 is way better than SIII in my opinion and about the price tag, I've found many prices of SIII the lowest was about R$ 1500.
If you look you can find OX4 for R$ 999 at red store and 1.299 where i bought mine at extra supermarket site.
I hope I helped you. :good:
Sorry for my bad english

A friend of mine was sitting ON THE GROUND and his S3 fell out of his pocket and the screen shattered with spider web cracks. That fall must have been less than a foot. It's crazy. So yeah I'd be wary of the S3's shatter resistance is what I'm saying. Also the same friend has had to send away the phone for software-related repairs twice now. He's not a modder, his phone isn't even rooted, all the issues he's had are stock related.

..not completely sure where that comes from. The 4x battery has higher mAh capacity, the sio+ solution is still organic, but better than the usual lithium ion batteries for retaining the charge, standby, etc. Tegra3 with a normal setup also demonstrably gives you an hour extra over the qualcomm chipsets on gaming. It trounches anything else on medium loads/movie playback for any neon/arm7 codec. Meanwhile the helper core can run music playback, small background tasks, and so on, on a power-draw similar to the second iphone, or the previous arm5 setups with the "graphics card module" disconnected.
Probably the problem is that LG put in a few background tasks, like the logger, and the today app - that actually prevent the phone from dropping to idle, while stealing cycles while running on full burn. This hasn't really been fixed, and you will have massively higher power-draw than you can have with just the standard setup.
Technically, though.. and if you just remove those apps.. it's undeniably the most power-efficient as well as most powerful chipset out there. And you notice it when you play around with the phone. For example if you do some picture editing, drawing with complex brushes, that sort of thing.. The tegra3 chipset here is extremely well designed, without exceeding the power-draw of an arm5 single-core setup.. And this is kind of a feat, so.. you know.. You get a lot for the money here - if it works as intended, obviously.... LG could have set this up a bit more carefully..
How many other phones with an ips display and a replacable battery and a memory card slot is there on the market, anyway..?
