When i try to update to the ota this is what i get(tmp/sideload/package.zip error) Everything is back to stock except kernel, which i know wont change, but im missing some stock apps(zumo and lets golf. I think thats it). Fxz and released wont return them. Is this what is causing the error? If so, how can i get them back in the system?

Hello all
I had restored my captivate back to stock (no custom roms used), and when the phone decides to update itself it fails at 50% every time, is there something I did wrong while restoring?

There is no way to get back to 100% Stock, even using Odin3. I am guessing you are talking about the over the air update, this had failed the same way for a very large percentage of people and even some that were 100% stock and never did anything to their phones.
You should be able to use Kies Mini to get the update on your phone. This has failed on some but most have had success. Here is a link for download, http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201009/20100928040737296/Kies_Mini_For_Captivate_10082_8_1.exe

your screenshot shows a phone that is most certainly NOT stock....
Oops, yea... I did that after I redid the voodoo fix
I just got a Nexus One that was ROMed and rooted (has RA-nexus-v2.0.0 recovery) and enom's 2.14.2 ROM. I don't very much like it (seems slow). I am trying to go back to STOCK Android 2.2.2, with Root access, in preparation for 2.3's release. I know how to use ADB so that's not my problem. I've downloaded FRG91 in hopes that I will get an OTA to FRG83G. Now here's where I start getting problems. I go into Recovery, go to Flash Zip from SD card, and try to flash it, but it says it doesn't have signatures. md5sum is correct so that's not it. Can anyone help me out? I've tried doing about 10 different things so far and none of them have worked. Maybe someone else has seen this? TIA.
Have you try to toggle signature verification off?
Here's a rooted 2.2.2 rom

I haven't. I think I might have found a way to get this baby working. I'm working on it now. If I need anymore help, I will re-ask in this thread. Thanks for the tip though, didn't think of that!
Alright. I think I got it to work. Had to do some fenagelling, but I got it back to stock 2.2.2 Official.
Admin, can you delete this post?
You can't flash stock roms without stock recovery, Google's signature is on the stock roms so only stock recovery recognizes it. There is also a option in your custom recovery to turn of signature verification. I wouldn't recommend that you try, because I don't know what would happen. But it's a option, if your that hard pressed to go back to stock. Another note, since the G1 days the devs built their roms to stop OTA updates. So if you flash stock recovery, then you may need a stock rom to receive a OTA. I wouldn't get my hopes up about getting Gingerbread or Honeycomb OTA. I don't see anything on any android forum about this happening, I could be wrong though. If you can get your hands on a stock recovery image then you can flash with adb or fastboot commands. Good luck.

Turning off signature verification works fine. No problems whatsoever flashing stock ROM/updates.

OTA updates have nothing to do with a stock recovery. All newer versions of Amon_RA and CWM custom recoveries have signature verification toggles, so you can install OTA updates without problems.
The only thing is that you need to have a stock ROM (not de-odexed, and not an AOSP build) for the OTA update to install.
Im just curious, had 5.7.893 with missing webtop and I had a back up of, I went back to .886 and used the 5.5.886-5.7.893 54meg update, but didnt make a back up of this, since I figured they where both 5.7.893. But now Im not getting the .894 update offered to me, not that I want it, I just want to make sure Im still on the upgrade path. I tried before knowing the damage 894 does, to install it, and failed.
I recently reflashed stock 886 from 893 leak after i read some threads about maybe getting the ota but for some reason zumo and lets golf are gone. Any ansewers? I tried to flash the ota anyway through stock recovery and i get the error message tmp/sideload/package.zip error. I know that having the leaked kernel could keep me from doing the ota but any ansewers would help. Thanks!
just flash the system file from the fxz and they will come back. strange that didnt come back before when you flashed.
Yeah thats what i thought. The only thing is that ive had trouble with the fxz. I cant ever get it to work properly. It never makes it past the first step. Ill keep on tryn and see. Released always leaves them out. Thanks for the info!
Hey everyone, Ive got some questions for you guys about how should i act.
So i have a Savestrap system. On non-safe system i have .890 ROM ROTed and some bloatware removed... On Safe system i have Newest AOPK Build... So here's what i want to do... I want to get official update to .906 to my non-safe system, doesnt matter if i will loose root or safestrap. How should i act to achieve this ? I need a safe way. Also i dont wanna flash a leaked version, i wanna get the one that people receive over software update :/
I think i manages to solve this by myself. All i did was Turn my non-safe .890 system on, reboot, turn on RSD Lite And reflash my phone with stock .890 then i got system update notification and my phone is downloading it right now as im typing, will have to root it after and install safestrap and im good to go i think
