Hi All,
Just saw online that Optus is selling the DS7 for 279AUD. I was thinking about getting one, dont really need it because I've got a DS5 and I'm happy with my 5inch Streak. I just want to play with it and maybe enjoy a larger screen.
So ,DS7 owners..are you happy with the device? Is it worth it? I know that there are more powerful and better tablet out there. But I kinda loyal Dell fan(lame ..I know).I've got a Dell XPS17 and a Dell Streak 5..I think it will complete Streak family If I get the DS7.
279 AUD is approx the same in USD.
I'd say if you can get it under $250 or so it's a pretty good device, at least in the US it's not difficult to get one for that depending on what condition device you want.
It's pretty great if you take the price into account, I use my s7 the most out of the entire series (and I own the entire series). There might be better or newer devices, but the s7 is in a pretty sweet spot as it's more powerful then the kindle fire or so and cheaper then the gtab7+.
The screen isnt amazing, but it's not terrible.

I want to get the best deal on one of these, is Craigslist the place?
Or should I buy new for $250? or are there some going for 200 new?
Retail, you'll find them new for $250. (I haven't seen them go on sale)
There was a deal on B&N's eBay store (that only applied to ebay purchase) for $50 off... making it $200. But that deal has since expired.
After that there is the Craig's List or ebay route to take your chances and buy a used one.
Although I'm sure most people will not have problems, I wouldn't buy a nook over ebay or craigslist and I'd spend the extra $50 for new. That way you have full warranty for one.
That's true. I'm trying to convince my mom to get one but she keeps saying that there will be much better technology in a couple of months...
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
There will be... for 600-800 bucks.
Though the new resistive Coby model looks very interesting for $170.

yeah, but that's like saying you should get a galaxy tab or Xoom over a Nook. For the price there is nothing like it. Sure in a year from now we might see more, but in two years from now, we'll see something twice as good as that, so it's all on when you want to get into the game. I personally bought the nook with the thought that a year or year and a half from now I'm going to upgrade and spend the good money on a good one (if I still want it)
There is always something better coming out tomorrow. You just have to figure out what it is that you want in a tablet. I for one wanted a tablet to mess around with a decent price point that has android on it and i can download some apps and have somehing to easily browse the web. I originally bought a archos 101 which is a very cool product but after a couple of weeks I realized i couldn't stand the viewing angles of it, i mean i could barely stand to look at it in landscape mode and it was unbeariable in portrait mode as it just messe with my eyes. So i got the nook color and the screen is fantastic. I've rooted it and installed my favorite launcher and some simple apps that i enjoy using. Plus the great thing bout the nook color is a lot of people are hacking it and developing roms for it and someday hopefully we will have a nice version of honeycomb to play around with.
This may or may not be of help to the OP, but, there is a $15.00 Gift Card offer available for Referral.
With the Groupon B&N GC, I made a small purchase and along with it a free trial of B&N Membership; also I registered my NOOK COLOR bought from B&N Ebay offer. Not sure, which one triggered it, but I received Email from B&N with the above offer.
So, you may want to check with your friends near you.
Regarding purchase for your Mom: her age, eyesight and nimbleness of her fingers, would be a major consideration to make sure a 7" tablet will suffice. Notwithstanding, these factors for older people, I feel this is the best bargain in its price range.

honestly I wouldnt buy it used.. I was considering buying one on craigslist and decided to go to the store... this is why i wouldnt buy it used..
My first nook.. returned it in less than an hour because it had rippling of the LCD beneath the digitzer.
My second nook, returned and exchanged it 6 days later because the bezel was creaky, volume button would stick on the + and it had horrible light leaking on the bottom right (Almost like a big yellow arc you could see at night no matter what brightness setting it was set to).
Now i am on my third nook color.. This one has dust underneath the digitizer between the LCD, creaks alot too..
Based on my experience i would highly recommend spending the extra bit of money just for the 14 day return\exchange policy coverage.. the quality control on these devices sucks.
I have no troubles, but highly recommend getting one new, just for the peace of mind of replacement if there is a hardware problem.
I think I'll pull the trigger once (hopefully) the B&N-Ebay discount happens again....I was on the fence last time last time it had a $50 discount.....
Mine is just perfect out of the box, not any single problem, love it so much.
Would anyone be able to recommend a reseller that ships to the UK? Or one that's based here preferably.

E Bay NC
Got a $200 one on E Bay from B&N New, tried booting Froyo from SD. For some reason the MicroSD went in between the back cover and Chassis. Since I had to take it apart to extract the card, and probably voided the warantee
I decided to go the auto-nooter route and use the sd for storage. Thr back does seem a little creaky now, but everything works fine. Hate those micro sd's, already lost one, and broke another.

I have a current model Coby, with the resistive screen. I don't like it. I'm use to the touch screen on my OG Droid. Also have a NC and I think it is a good tablet for the price. I couldn't see paying $600 for a tablet, especially if I bricked it from messing around with it.
it is true, the dev community for the NC is so much larger than the Coby community.

Thanks; the new Coby (shipping from Amazon soon) adds multitouch and a front camera, so it mimics the iPad2 to a tiny degree. Unfortunately I still don't know any retailers that carry it locally so I could see just how bad the touchscreen is. (I've used Windows Mobile resistive screens, and I think they're fine!)
I just wanted to post about a good deal on OEM car chargers for our Streak 7. There's an ebay retailer selling them for $9.99 with free shipping. I ordered one expecting it to be a cheap knock-off. It isn't! It is the real deal. It's the same charger/cable you would get if you walked into a T-Mobile store and bought one.
Here's a link to the seller's ebay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/cellular-emporium?_trksid=p4340.l2563
The seller is in New York (not China). So shipping is quick too.
I am in for one thanks.
There's a lot of good, eBay deals on OEM Streak 7 stuff coming from New York. Guess it all fell off a truck . . .
LOL, yeah. There's a lot of Streak 7s on there too. Most go for $250 or less.
Seems people are bailing on the S7. Must be buying honeycomb tabs.

Well, give it a few weeks (or hours, depending on HS1.3B4) and the Streak 7 will be a Honeycomb tablet.
I hope so, Zandar. I'm really up in the air about selling my Streak 7. I picked up a Galaxy Tab 7, and I really like it. The battery life on the Streak 7 was killing me.
So, if I'm gonna sell it, I should jump now before the prices really tank. Or I could keep it and maybe have a honeycomb tablet...
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

That's a tough call. I have a Streak 7 and a Galaxy Tab 7 (my wife's, actually), and there are for sure things about the GTab that are superior to the S7; battery life being at the top of the list. I personally think the S7 is far superior (T2, better GPU, 4G, etc.), but it all depends on your usage. My wife would pull her hair out (or mine, probably, since I replaced her last device with it) if her Tab had the issues my S7 has.
As for HC, the S7 will get a good version either from Dell or DJ_Steve. It's just a waiting game. Of course, there will be 7" HC tabs coming out (with better screens and battery life) and there are 10" HC tabs out right now (with better screens and battery life). I still think the S7 is the best tab that could have been, but Dell screwed it all up. It will still be awesome, though, in time.
LOL, I may just keep it as a GPS.

I was told about a retailmenot coupon that would net me a refurbished galaxy tab from AT&T for $250, but today when I went to buy one I found the terms had changed. The discount now only applies to accessories you buy on top of the tab.
I was really disappointed to find the price had gone up (I have almost no need for accessories).
Has anyone else found great deals for the galaxy tab?
nah for me , i bought the galaxy tab , around 900$ in malaysia , without contract CASH .. and after 2months i found the price drop down 300 .. it was like a shock . but hell no , my tab enjoyment worth even 10000$ to have such a nice friends here in the XDA forum Galaxy Tab Section ... dude , if you really wanna buy it , do not focus on the price , focus on the things that will come after you have it ..
you want my advice go for it , its the galaxy tab 7 that many ppl are dreaming to have it specially The IOS ppl LMAO , cheers , and thanks for posting in the correct section

Got mine off Woot a few weeks ago for $280. To me when you start pushing the $300 mark for a wifi only tablet you're pushing it. I can't see myself paying much more than that for a tablet. None of the devices really stand out from their peers at this point and it remains to be seen if there really is a long term market for them. I see prices dropping drastically at least for Android tablets as the holidays approach.
I know price is not the most important factor, but I'm just a college kid looking for a cheap yet high-quality tablet that I can use until better, namely quad-core, technology is released.
That $50 or $100 really matters because there is so much that can be done with that money and I'd like to save as much as I can. Can anyone help me find a good deal?
If you're looking for a sprint gtab go to ebay.com.au (australia), they have been selling tabs for less than $200. Not sure about postage rates though...

You're basically buying a toy though. Paying $400-500 for a toy is too much IMO. Especially if you're on a typical college student's budget.
The at&t website lists a refurbished 3g tab for $299. www.att.com
I think it's really holding back the 8.9 to be only sold at Best Buy. There is a lot of competition in the 7" & 10" markets, but the 8.9 is only at Best Buy, why? I understand best buy probably paid for some kind of exclusivity, but I think it's really holding the 8.9 back. The 8.9 is stuck at $450 & $550 and I think that's ridiculous. It needs to be at $300 (16gb) & $400 (32gb). I understand that the 8.9 is somewhat unique, but it really needs a price reduction. Do any of you think a price reduction is coming soon? If so, why and when? I really want a 8.9, but I just have a hard time paying $450 or $550 for it.
Why do you feel it needs to be so cheap? Samsung (and Best Buy) need to make money on tablets, or they need to stop selling them.
The Kindle and Nook pricing is artificial, each one is a loss for the companies that they hope to make up in media sales.
As for Best Buy holding the 8.9 hostage with pricing...have you paid any attention to the price stability on the 10.1 Wifi in the US and worldwide? It is sold in a lot more places than Best Buy. Other than a few short duration and small discount sales here and there, it's been steady at $499/$599 since June.
The 8.9 at $459/$559 is fair...it's the same device, the only manufacturing savings between it and the 10.1 is the smaller battery. And for $40 less, you actually get (IMHO) a better device.
TL;DR Want a cheap small tablet, go with Archos or Coby or Huiwoosoowoozu. Want a thin, light, well-engineered tablet with the best display currently on the market, expect to pay more.
If it was sold at $300 it would of course take most of the tablet market.. and if it was profitable they would price it at that.. These tablets probably have a very small profit margin and that's why most manufacturers have them all similar priced...
I don't know about other places but sales are certainly not limited to Best Buy. I got mine and a SkyRocket for $479USD. Hell of a deal.

Best Buy had the exclusive on the 8.9 WiFi-only.
Not to rub it in or anything, but I just got mine today for $399. Returned my Kindle Fire that I've had for 3 weeks and I'm quite happy with the 8.9. I really like the not too big or too small form factor - 8.9 feels perfect.

I also bought one at best buy a couple days ago and its great (and $399). My wife has an ipad and I have been using a flyer (7 inch). I believe the 8.9 is the perfect compromise and worth every penny of the $400.

Where/when?
I originally got the 8.9 Wifi for $450 and I took it back when it didn't play HD videos. I bought it again for $399 a few days ago when I saw motley getting close to hardware acceleration working.
Super glad I did, its the perfect size.

The prices on ebay are coming down. You can get one between $350 and $400.
agree that this is almost the perfect tablet all around. the only thing that will convince me to switch anytime soon would be if something in same form factor & resolution adds stylus support.
hi guys!!!
I was wondering if is better to buy the nexus 7 in the month of March 2013 or wait for the next releases of 2013? (sorry for my English)
Entirely up to you how you spend your money. If there's another device you're looking forward to.. I don't know, wait? Entirely up to you.

Thanks guys for your help!!!!
If someone wants to put their opinion, go head that will help me a lot to choose!!!!
As has already been said, it's totally up to you how you spend your money BUT I honestly think that if you wait around for the 'next best thing' you'll always be disappointed.
The Nexus 7 is an amazing device and is even better because of the pretty cheap price. Yes there's always a chance that a new version could be released if you decide to buy one now, but there's no guarantee that it will.
Don't play the waiting game because there is always going to be something better around the corner. It makes sense with non-nexuses because you have to worry about OS upgrades, but with nexuses you know Google will take care of you with OS updates. Plus the nexus is only $200, if Google releases something awesome that you absolutely must have, sell the nexus for 100 on craigslist and by the new one.
Depends on where you stay and how much you are willing to spend though... For me i stay in Singapore so there is no official playstore that sells the nexus 7 i have to wait for ASUS to import it here so the prices are quite high even now. 16GB wifi version averages out at SGD350 and it took months before it reached here. So if i where to wait for the new one then im out of luck .. Very likely that it will reach here only next year == So im not waiting and getting it this weekend Thats my story
I agree that waiting around is useless in most cases but Nexus devices get updated yearly and it is almost time for a new model.
I personally think a higher resolution 7" model will be a waste of resources since the N7 already has such a high DPI. If the current screen is "retina" type where individual pixels aren't visible to the naked eye, then why upgrade further?
The N7 is a fantastic device and I can't recommend any other 7" tablets. Seriously, the N7 is cheap enough at $200 and you can sell it or repurpose it if you ever want to upgrade.
May is several months away and who knows when the actual release date will be. I'd buy one now. At $200, it is better then being without one for who knows how long.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Like others have said, if you always wait for the next device which will be better, you'll always be waiting because every new device will be better.
BUT, since I/O is just 2 months away, I would recommend you wait IF you can live without a tablet for a while. But if you desperately need a tablet now and don't wish to wait, you won't regret getting the current N7. I have it and am very happy with it i.e. won't be upgrading to the newer model.
Its 200 bucks m8. You barely feel it over the budget. ehehe, and to be honest, its a brilliant piece of device, it isnt perfect but believe me when i tell you that its very very close to perfection, and its pretty, slim and accurate (and most of the N7 will agree with me on this one ). That question though is subjective because in the N7 case, Google ordered asus to make a TOP OF THE FOOD-CHAIN device of THE tablet's jungle, with the price of a Jungle Fly lol, (and they got the formula right since its the top seller for tablets atm). Now lets put it another way, obviously Google will order some new piece of tech even more raw than N7, but raw-ness costs money, imagine that a N7 II comes out with an outstanding octa-core? It will not cost 200 i tell you that much.
The more time you waste dueling on the should or should not, the more time you loose with the Nexus 7, go with the odds, N7 isnt the best of THE best only because of the low budget factor.
P.s. As much as i wanted to, i do not work for Google or asus, ehehe.
