Had the same problem too....sometimes when the phone is hot, theres a delay between making calls and the phone actually dialling. For info i'm on standard kl3 rom rooted with cf kernel. Phone is on on demand gov standard speed 1.4ghz. Appreciate any help...thanks.
I'm running Abyss 2.3, 100 - 1400 with Smartass V2 Governor. And it works fantastic I must say. You might wanna try a new Kernel FM 1.5 or Abyss 2.3
It's normal for the CPU to warm up when you're playing games and anything causing the CPU to run at max for a long time.
Install CPU Spy from the market and make sure you're phone goes into deep sleep and monitor the other frequencies as well.
After installing new roms or kernels the phone usually gets warm as well. Just reboot and it should be okay after a couple of minutes. That's what I experienced on my Note
Mine is completely stock... Haven't even installed 3 apps yet. The phone is never in a case and the heat appears to originate from the camera area any thoughts or ideas or am I just over reacting?
Btw the phone doesn't slow down or act different operationally just gets warm lol
below 20% of battery power any device getting hot.
plus maybe you making hard time to processor
naw the phone is at 80 percent as well :/ i think im just over thinking lol the phone is operating like a champ just want to make sure its nothing serious
Mine gets pretty hot in same area wen playing games, its just the processor heating up, sure it for force close the app, if it couldn't handle it!
Yeah.. Any processor will get hot when running. Remember there's nothing to keep it cool! So I think if you put it on your cheek and it stings after a while there may be a problem. Otherwise it's pretty normal for the Note.

Has anyone's Ace randomly shut off? Like, the other day, I woke up and found my phone off (while charging) and now (while charging as well) I was using it, locked it and put it on the table to find the green battery icon it shows when the phone is off and charging.
Does anyone know whats going on? I'm not using any scripts or mods. Just Beats and Ram Manager set on normal balanced. Think its the difference in governors? I have a charging profile of 844 max performance and a normal profile of 806 ondemand.
Doubt it, but who knows.
It's the cpu... Even on my ace when I used setcpu and made some profiles the phone became very unstable instead of working more smoothly than before it became unstable
Ultimately I had to delete it and for cpu I use the cm settings

Kk, took off the performance charging profile. Now the phone is running completely ondemand. I'll see if the problem keeps happening.
I think it is though because I've had this problem before way before I knew about CPU settings. But whatever, doesn't hurt to try xD
This was happening to my wife's S2 as well and what we did was put a piece of paper behind the battery and the case to put pressure on the battery so it would stay in place. Seems to be a quick fix.

I had the similar problem when I got the phone brand new. My phone was restarting now and then. Also due to bad battery readings I thought, my battery was defected. So I got replaced in Service Centre. Took me 2 hours to fight with them and finally I won a replacement battery with an old one.
I'm saying this in your randomly turns off thread, because after replacement of battery, My phone never restarted. So This could be a battery problem too.
Another suspicion can be your CPU. Dude, Overclocking can reduce your CPU life span. Not every hardware gives the same performance as same clock. In another words, you can't say your overclocked CPU will ran flawlessly, because your friend's overclocked CPU ran 10 months without problems. I always say this, If you want to stay out of trouble of hardware problems, DO NOT OVERCLOCK CPU. You might are seeing it as "just" 44Mhz over 800Mhz. But, also you don't know whats your CPUs facing. Can you?
PS: On Performance CPU governor uses the MAX CPU clock all the time, even when its idle.
my phone randomly shuts off if i overclock beyond 825 mhz, irrespective of the rom. maybe thats whats happpening?

Let me tell you my story. My ace also turned randomly off and I didn't know what to do.
I did a research and found out that it can (CAN, not surely) be something with the wifi. Go to settings wifi settings then press menu advanced settings and then put to never.
I did it a while ago and I think it works for now.

Why are the GT-S5830i running the batteries shut off?
I have noticed that when I run games such as Modern Combat 3 for a while my note starts to heat up. My S2 used to heat up a bit too. But once it's heated up the whole phone starts to lag. It feels like the CPU and GPU are throttling.
Once the phone cools down a bit, it starts speeding back up. This happens on stock speeds, OCed speeds, and even when underclocked and undervolted.
Happens on all of the kernels. I run on stock 2.3.6 rom with any of the custom kernels.
Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me?
EDIT: Or could it be it locks max FPS to 30?
I found this happened to me this morning, i tried MC3 for the first time and the phone was hot when i put it in my pocket.
My phone is retail stock no mods at all.
Same thing happens to me.
Every more demanding game makes my Note heat a lot, and then I start to face slowdowns. The last game that I saw making this was Baseball Superstar 2012.
Completely stock.
It's meant to happen. There is code in the kernel to avoid frying the CPU. It downclocks the CPU when too hot. It appears the gpu does not downclock from the code. Be careful when overclocking. I don't think the overclock frequencies are included in the code.

I have the overheating issue as well, or at least it feels unusually warm (which is foreign and new to me) when I play games like Zenonia 4 which is extremely sharp and appears to be made for HD screens.
I'm a little unnerved by how hot the phone got the first time when I played it for 45 minutes that now I never play more than 20 minutes in a sitting and learn to space out my gaming.
If it as you say, is there a chance that the increased heat for a prolonged duration could permanently damage the gpu?
So I know the Faux kernal has the governors built in to it, and it's meant for performance.
anyone have suggestions on how to make it as much energy efficient as possible? I don't run the clock speed at 1.5 or 1.7 i usually have it on 1.3-4. Also I undervolted 1 time -12
will undervolting save more battery, or not really, should I clock it down to 1.2 or maybe even 1 when im not using my phone a lot?
I don't want the stock kernel because it just seems weak and I like having the option of going to 1.5 or 7 when i want to. also faux's kernel has a lot of performance and battery saving things already.
and also will undervolting do anything bad? if i undervolt too much it'll bootloop im assuming because not enough power but does it cause unnecessary cpu usage to make up for less volts?
That's a good question... I don't know the answer...
However... I have my phone -50 mV across the board... It's very stable... No reboots and every game runs fine...
At one point I had it set at -75 and some games would hang to the point where I had to pull the battery... Not sure if it was from the tweak or if it was something else....
I have one question though... Sometimes I open system tuner... And my governor has switched itself back to on-demand... Is that by design as part of intellidemand... Or is the governor just not sticking?

Not sticking. I don't really like System Tuner. I just use SetCPU instead.

I am using faux's kernel as well and my battery just went flat right now after around 14hrs of pounding the phone. I mean over 3hrs of phone calls, about 1.5hrs of music streaming over bluetooth, downloading and updating more than 20 apps over wifi, texting, facebook and web browsing over 4G and about 30mins of mx video player. I am at 1.5 with intellidemand. No other tweaks. My point is that the cpu and the kernel seem pretty optimized. I don't think that, other than underclocking, changing the kernel settings would improve battery life much more, probably at the cost of stability.
been on it for a few days and....
Not to sure about battery life yet myself. Im also new to this phone (Vivid). Had a hacked droid a few years ago until it was stolen. Still learning hax0ring and kerneling again. Over all I like faux's kernel and P'Gs rum float B4 ROM.
More later I Guess...
I usually end my day with anywhere between 40% and 60% left on the clock.
648/192 intellidemand, no UV. Typical use is heavy web browsing (at least 3h), XDA surfing (1h) and music (about 1-2h). Calls are occasional at best, as is app use (read: emulators, WWF, DrawSomething).
Hello, Im new in Note, installed yesterday Slim Bean Rom and hydracorenirvana v7 OC kernel and I noticed that Note get warm, like 35-50 C while browsing internet or doing some low requerements stuff. I tried to low CPU to 1ghz but still the same... And while playing it jumps more then 50C, is that normal? I really dont want to burn it
Probably the media scanner is maxing the CPU, normal after installing a new ROM especially if you have a lot of files. Give it some time to settle down.

Dont forget the Hydracore is a maxed out performance kernel, designed for ultimate speed, so it will generate more heat doing basic things unlike the stock kernel.
and not to mention the massive power hungry screen and huge battery inside, its normal so dont worry about it. If it gets to the point where its too hot to touch, just remove the battery for 10mins and allow it to cool down.
Can I OC and UV GPU with hydracore kernel? I have S2 with dorimanx kernel , there is Stweaks app its very usefull when I can choose battery or performance profiles. and its auto OC and UV on that kernel. Can we get something on Note?
there are many apps that can do this, Tegrak, SetCPU etc, but be careful messing with voltages as it can prevent the phone from functioning.
You can use a basic app such as no-frills-CPU to adjust OC and governors.

Yes, I know setcpu, but I want OC / UV GPU not CPU. On my S2 via STweaks I can OC/UV also GPU.
Ok, now Im on jellybam woth "voldemort" kernel and on battery it looks little less warmer but when I charging and try to play games or browse it gets really hot, like ~55C . Is it normal and not damage my Note? Also I always use 1ghz cpu speed. with 1.4 or 1.6 ghz its little bit warmer

Hi,
im on stock rom, with bootloader unlocked and root installed. my deivce is still very hot even after system configurations, so id like some advice on how to tweak the kernel or improve performance, make it not overheat, install custom roms or delete system apps and so on.
Ive tried uninstaller system applications or bloatware, tweaking the kernel with CPU Tuner, installing and configuring the L Speed app, who i was someone had awesome resaults with here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/themes-apps/one-to-tweak-apps-l-speed-t3350288
i only get around 2 hrs of screen on time with my deice, and a lot of heat, i saw it over 80 degrees yesterday...
id like some good optimization and battery life for the device, as im not able to do so now...
thanks in advanced

Ive been using that firmware sins the day it released (a weak ago almost)? but no change there...
what i have done now is done some heavy modifications to the kernel and some CPU governors.
I flashed this Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t3392772
the kernel works like a dream after under-clocking it with this program: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor&hl=no
Used the "alucard" governor, CPU is sitting around 60 degrees when using the camera, and its a bit laggy, but much more survivable that it was before...
This Kernel is the best you can do, perhaps you can try to deactivate one or two of the big cores.

I never tweaked anything but mine is only hot when I play heavy games and record video for more than 20 mins (720p)
Anyway your lag is too much or just a little bit???
And one thing I use stamina mode whenever I'm about to do something CPUy
So try it without tweaks and tell me what's the result.

I get the stamina thing, id do that too if i did not need the screen brightness
The laggs are not small, im talking CPU om 80 degrees an so hot that i can not touch top backside of the phone
and thats withou any tweaks on MM .244 with everything stock. Ive also tried it with root, but really that does not make any differense, i need to edit the kernel to be able to use the camera, or else it will shut down when recording in 720p.
Anyways, underclocking the device for me, actualle made it faster in my case, i have no idea why makes no sense, but there is no throtteling and cpu struggles when underclocking it, so now it relly smooth, a lot smoother than on stock .244 MM,
Hope it help!
