Or port your number to Google Voice.
Don't get how that works then (sorry¡)....how do I keep my ATT service if I port my number out?

Google offers a service where you can port your existing number (from AT&T) to Google voice. I costs a small amount of money ($20 I think, somewhere around there anyway). What this means is that your existing AT&T number will now become your Google voice number, and you'll have a new AT&T number. From this, you can have Google voice forward all calls to your new AT&T number, and all your texts go through GV instead of AT&T (unless you want to give out your new AT&T number, but that's a hassle)
Now, if only there were a way to point your native messaging to GV instead of AT&T...
Does anyone know the messaging centre number for Google Voice?

Careful with porting. If you are porting a number that's under a contract, the port will trigger an ETF, which will a nasty surcharge to the simple $20 fee.
So when you port online (google voice)...you are automatically assigned a new ATT number....or do you have to contact ATT?
Thanks again

Hello
Well im Canadian so i have my captivate from Rogers. im wondering if there is a free visual voicemail solution that i can get. If there is one, please let me know
Thanks
If googlel would get off thier ass and give us google voice in canada we would be able to use that. Grrrrrr
i know right... weve been waiting for far too long
Rogers does have an add on called Voicemail to text, which is virtually the same thing.
http://www.rogers.com/web/content/add-ons/apps?tab1_content&submenu2
Thanks for the suggestion but that costs 6 per month and to be honest... doesnt even look nice. Id like a program like google voice one thats an actual app
Oh well, canada doesnt have it yet
Well, the app would still have to get access to your voicemail, which would require data and/or airtime to access the voicemail box. $6 is definitely outrageous but it's probably cheaper, but it's probably cheaper if you already have a voicemail plan of some kind. When I reupped my contract to get the captivate they added my voicemail and txt plan for free, why not call them and see what they are willing to do?
I don't know if this would differ in Canada or not, but in the US we have access to a program called "Youmail" and it's free so long as you don't use any extra features. It acts as a caller ID, and you can click the name and play the audio directly. All it required of me was to set up an email and a PIN. If you want voice to text it'll cost you.

I think Google has a vendetta against Canada. For example, the Send SMS application in gmail only works to Ghana, Kenya, Israel, Nigeria, Palestinian territories, Senegal, Zambia and of course the US
Well, youmail doesnt work, its only for the us
and i called rogers. They said they can give me the addon
but they wont "support" it. So if it doesnt work... (which im pretty sure it wont because its only for iphone), they wont do anything about it

This thread is for all users who have went with using T-mobiles Unlimited $30 plan with 100 minutes of talk time and 5G of monthly 4G usage.
First question: what VOIP programs you use to make and receive calls? What is the best combination free/paid apps?
I've been using this plan on my Galaxy S3 and will be using it on my Nexus 4 if it ever shows up. Great plan!
Groove ip works great when I'm home, but I'm still on my s3. I also played with spare phone voip and it seemed to work pretty well.
can you go into a tmobile store and get the micro sim for free if you're a current tmobile user? i ordered the micro sim online but dont think it's coming tomorrow when my n4 arrives
Vonage for VOIP
I downloaded the Vonage app, ** You do not need to sign up for vonage to use it ***
And I can make free calls to any number in the US for free.... It uses your current T-Mobile number for calls.
The quality of the call is amazing and it works remarkably well.
I use GrooveIP when I'm home on wifi. I tried it a few times on 3g/hspa+ and it didn't fare too well. I'll try it again with the Nexus 4's improved download speeds and see if it makes a difference.

I'm about to find the answer to that myself tomorrow. My N4 is arriving tomorrow too. I'll probably hit all the local stores and ask for a new sim for my new phone.
Back to the topic, I've been thinking of converting to the $30 plan too. How are the chances of also transferring over my current T-Mobile number over to the $30 plan? It's of great value to me to keep my old number.

Yes, when you set it up, you enter your number and it sends you a text to verify that its your number. Then when you call someone it shows up as your mobile number on their caller id.

and this doesn't use up the allotted 100 minutes of the plan? i've been reading conflicting posts on whether or not these services use minutes.
I currently have $60 everything unlimited pre-paid with 2GB of data at HSPA+ speeds. While I can afford it, paying $30 a month would be even better. But is this plan for people that hardly ever talk on a phone or there is a way to get free incoming/outgoing calls ?

I use Google Talk with tapatalk, but as of now I have the 50$ plan with unlimited talk from my one s until I can get the 30$ kit, they wouldn't let me migrate from the unlimited down to the 30$ said I had to go to Walmart and do it or order online. No they don't use minutes, it uses data. Vonage only works for outgoing as far as I know and grooveip works for both. You have to set up groove with your google voice number and change a certain setting (can't remember which) or it will use minutes. When someone calls your google voice number it forwards to your phone.
I would recommend using vonage and calling people right back when they call because it's alot better quality.

Just get a new sim and activate it, then trasfer your number to the new account. I've heard people say they were able to transfer the funds too.
There is a great thread at SD that you can learn everything there is to know about this plan.

If you use your phone number to call out with vonage, I'm pretty sure it is going to use up your minutes. Similar to how dialing in/out works with Google Voice:
If you choose for your caller ID to be from your Google Voice number, then it uses minutes like you are talking to your Google Voice number, and
If you choose for your caller ID to be from your real phone number, then it uses minutes like you were calling them directly (because Google simply transfers the call when the person is reached).
This is widely known due to the fact that people used to put their Google Voice number as one of their family members so they could get unlimited calls to that number.
So, I personally would not trust the previous poster without checking myself first. no offense
Programs like GrooveIP skip your phone number entirely and route you directly to your Google Voice number so as not to use minutes.

Currently have a 2 year contract and the $30 monthly 4G plan, was told that you dont always get the same coverage on prepaid than you do postpaid so I am currently testing it out. But I have not seen a difference yet. just have to wait for my Nexus 4 to come in and then cancel my postpaid plan.
I was able to get a free micro-sim from the tmobile store when I went. simply said when your phone arrives we can transfer everything over and if you decide you want to stick with the pre-paid we can switch your post-paid number over as well.

Yes, if you use Vonage it does not use your minutes, same as GrooveIP, but....
I believe if you use Vonage with the phone number on your plan, then it will eat up your minutes.
I have yet to see any program that uses the phone number on your plan, without also using your minutes (T-mobile wifi calling uses your T-mobile phone number, and it also uses your minutes).
Correct me if I am wrong.
Vonage app doesn't use your minutes
Thank you guys for the Vonage app tip. Never came across it before. User interface is very usable and performance is great.
I still don't have the N4, only a few hours more , but I've had the $30 tmobile plan (100min + 5GB data) for a about a year now. I was forced to get a new number, couldn't transfer my old tmobile prepaid number.
Vonage app doesn't use your minutes. I installed it and allowed it to use my tmobile number (it auto detected it and sent an activation code over sms). I then made 2 calls one on wifi and another on 4G (currently have the galaxy exhibit 4G supports HSPA+ 14) quality was pretty good on both, considering grooveIP is unusable on it because of the weak processor, although Skype and G-Talk work fine. I had the same number of minutes remaining after the 2 calls as before. No minutes used.
The $30 plan works well for me because I use a little over 2GB of data a month, and rarely exceed the 100 minutes. And when I do it's only 10cents a minute. And no extra fees and taxes. Plus I pick up recharge cards online regularly at 5% off and no sales tax. It's a win win win situation
I am a Verizon unlimited data customer.
I want to sell that plan on eBay and go to the TMo N4 and I want to keep my number.
I have never done an Assumption of Liability and I'm concerned about the order I should do things in order not to lose my number. If I buy the N4 and sell my plan a week later, will TMo port my number over at that later point?
Or conversely, will verizon port my number to TMo and give my S3 a temporary number until I sell it?
TIA

Call T-Mobile store and ask how long does it usually take to have a number ported to their service. I doubt if Verizon will do a temp number, they will assign a new number to the buyer.
I am wondering about these very same questions. In the same boat as you are, looking to switch to T-Mobile, give away my verizon unlimited, need the ETF payout from Tmobile, and keep my number.
Well, just a simple comment... I ported my number from AT&T to T-Mobile in literally less than 2 min. The T-Mobile representative just called a number spoke to a person, gave my account info and even before hanging up I got text message from T-Mobile to my old ported number. It is incredibly fast. Not sure with your situation... But on a normal situation it is something done in 2 minutes or less.
Thanks for the replies.
I called Vz and told 'em the story.
They said to go ahead & have Tmo port the number and then I have 2 weeks call Vz back to retain the acct by calling the "Win Back" dept. (800 311-3099) They will issue another number.
So far, I can't get through to this Vz "Win Back" dept using that number or through 611.
Be careful not to loose your number when porting. Once its gone, its gone.
Currently on the $60 Cricket Pro Plan with 10GB of data unlimited text and unlimited calling. I dont need unlikited calling and 5gb will be kore than enough. I want to keep my number from cricket, i will be a new tmobile subscriber so i know i qualify for the 30 walmart plan.
Why not just ask TMobile? Seems they would be the logical people to ask, rather than random people who aren't likely to be current on TMO's porting policy.

When you get the $30 plan, which is by far the best plan there is for someone who doesn't talk much and the data you get for the money...inside the box is a paper with a code on it. Log into the website provided and register your device. It'll ask you if you want to port, so enter in your number. After submitting, call TM's pre paid department and you should be good to go.
The trick here is to make sure you provide TM with the right "pin code," of your old account and it'll be Smooth sailing. If you don't know what the pin code / password is just call your old provider to obtain that. Then use that pin code when activating the device.
Tip: Don't cancel your old number until you have confirmation that your port is successful, which can be tested obviously by calling your old number and having it ring on your phone with the new SIM. If you cancel too soon, you won't be able to port your number. So wait and make darn sure first. Then cancel the old line / account.
To avoid all this. ..Google voice [emoji106]
Hope this helps.
What is the best visual voicemail app? Does Samsung offer one of its own?
I have a T-mobile s10.
I do know that there is the T-mobile visual voicemail, but it is crappy, ugly, and crashes a lot.
What are some recommendations?
Thanks

You have voicemail built into the dialer, you just need to activate Digits on your line (Install the Digits app, activate, then uninstall it). I MUCH rather use Google Voice though, especially because of the free voice to text.

I don't think that this is going to work at least for now. A month or so ago, I have read somewhere while looking for build in voice mail and digits support on S10, that T-Mobile units don't yet support digits(possibly voicemail too) built into the dialer. The future software update should take case of that. Few weeks ago I went to T-Mobile store and checked their S10 phones and couldn't make voicemail or digits settings to appear. I do know that S8 and other models did have it.
No, it works perfectly fine. Make sure digits is activated and you'll get it.
You just can't get it on the unlocked U1 version.

So basically there's no free version of VVM for prepaid Verizon S10's?
Sucks to have to listen to all the voicemails just to get to the one you want to hear.
As much as I like Android it seems Android pushes people toward iPhones due to simplicity. My friends iPhone has VVM and transcribes the messages also.

My Pixel 2 have VVM built in and also transcribes the message, the sad part is the person needs to speak English for it to do it correctly
Versions of Galaxy phones on T-Mobile prior to S10, did have built in VVM. I think T-Mo will or might bring it as an update in the future
That's odd. My Pixel 2 XL didn't have VVM but I use a prepaid Verizon SIM. Same with my S-10.
As far as T-Mobile goes that's not a viable option due to the small town I live in.
I can get VVM with Verizon if I go contract but the cheapest plan is like $55.00 + tax and you have to pay an extra $3.99 and you only get 3GB of data close to $75.00. With my prepaid it's $40.00 + tax about $45.00 and 12GB of data with carry over.

So Verizon does not offer VVM for people who own Android phones and use Verizon prepaid SIM cards per Verizon tech.
Thing is I don't live close to any other phone carriers that work in this rural community so it's Verizon or you can go with something like Tracfone that works but I think I'll pass since their data doesn't work in this area.

Read and tried 95% of what you posted. A lot works for the unlocked version but VZW wants to lock things down to where you pay for VVM.
I don't want 2 numbers and prefer it to be accessible by using VVM within the dialer
Then you haven't read or tried ANY of what was written, because Google Voice doesn't work like that. AT ALL. It has NOTHING to do with Verizon VVM. Verizon has no control over it. You don't need or use 2 numbers UNLESS YOU WANT TO. You're just asking the same question over and over, and ignoring what everyone is telling you because YOU don't want to hear it.
Are you okay? You seem to get upset easily and there's no need in you being an ass about the question I asked.
I tried it and couldn't get it to work and if that upsets you then unsubscribe and go ***** at you're wife or husband.
