Does your guys vivid find your location on google.com mine says location unavailable I tired everything to fix it and it still doesn't work any advice ?

The GPS thing is odd for me too. It shows me where I am perfectly, however shows my girlfriend sitting over on a nearby airport runway when she is right next to me. She has the Thunderbolt on Verizon.
And to make it even more strange... She sees me over there too but her phone shows her location perfectly.
And it's always off like that... no matter where we are. we see ourselves fine but each other as off by about 1000 feet or so.
Wow that is weird does your location show on google.com ?

Mines dead on and Fast.
Do you receive any pop ups when you first launch Maps about improving your Location?
You may want to turn on Wifi (you don't have to connect to any Networks).
Wifi on speeds the process up quite a bit.
A few years ago Google was in the hot seat for gathering Wifi info while gathering data for Street View.
all third part apps work fine on finding my location maps finds its quick and fast my problem is on google.com the browser in general does not find my location it keeps saying location unavailable

I have the same problem and found a couple more. The Places tab on google .com does not work either. If you hit the Facebook website and try to use the check in feature, it won’t let you. So it’s definitely a gps/browser issue.
same here anyone have any advice to fix this

I've tried contacting HTC about this. Has anyone heard of a possible fix?
AT&T referred me to HTC because they did not have a solution. HTC had me check all settings and do a soft reset but that did not work. I was not willing to do a factory reset. HTC said that since the phone is new they are waiting on customer feedback to see what issues the phone has before they issue a patch. So I guess this will stay an unresolved issue until then.
Any word on a fix for this? I'm encountering 'Location unavailable' in the browser (any browser, actually, tried Dolphin and Firefox) and I can't seem to fix it. I actually DID do a factory reset, no dice (restoring nandroid now).
Maps apps (Maps, My Tracks, Latitude) work fine and locate me whether I'm on wifi, LTE, GPS on/off. Same with widgets. Everything but the browser. It's really frustrating. I've tried every combination of settings, both in the browser and the general phone settings.
For what it's worth, I've been in touch with HTC, and they're looking into it. I won't hold my breath.
My Location
This is so frustrating!!!
When I'm at work My Location (image and info) is correct, but at home my image is correct but my info shows the street behind my house!

If you are talking about the position marker on the map, GPS positions and/or the apps using them can be off. At work and at home, the marker can be as much as 50 feet from where I am actually located. This may be due to the number and position of the satellites being tracked. I have found some apps to be more accurate than others. Personally, I think the Vivid GPS works well, but you are rarely going to have the marker less than 15-20 feet of your actual position -- unless you are a military weapon or a military target.

I've got the motor Droid. Had service then canceled a few months ago. Been using wifi just fine.
Reset to factory defaults just fine a couple weeks ago. I have a question.
1: How come google maps don't work anymore? Is it cus no cell? Should work anyway since this phone has GPS chip built in. Should not need cell service. Maps says no data connection and wont lock on to any satellite. Can maps work without cell service?
2: how do I get activate phone screen from coming up everytime I turn my phone on? I hit home button and it goes away but it is there everytime I boot the phone. Can I disable it somehow? I have no need for cell service.
3: where can I get capacitive stylus for the phone locally? Like best buy or some other place.

The GPS chip works without a cell connection, but Google Maps requires a data connection to download map data. Theoretically you should be able to plot a route using Maps/Navigation while connected to a WiFi network, then disconnect and have the GPS lead you to your destination (since it caches the map data for your entire trip at this point), but if you deviate from the planned route, it won't be able to reroute you or resume giving directions until you get back on the cached path. Your only other real alternative is to buy a navigation app like CoPilot, which stores complete map data on your SD card.

Never seen one in stores, but of course this depends entirely upon what "local" is for you. You should be able to find them online pretty cheaply, though.

This is definitely the one thing I miss about the iPod Touch. I'm sure Apple has four or five patents on it, though...
when opening maps it gets nothing. No sat or map pics at all. This from no data? How will it show where I'm going then even with cached from wifi?
Immediate do the capacative stylus work on Droid? Like which could I order?
I don't have cell service so how would an ota update work?

I have a moto droid can i still get that if my phone is rooted and it has a version of froyo already???
I have an issue here where Google.com doesn't load when the revolution is in a 3G area. It will only load Google.com when it's in a 4G network. I talked to a tech guy from Verizon Wireless who happens to have the same phone and his phone does the same thing when the phone is in 3G mode.
I was wondering if the owners of this phone can do a little test for me to see if your Revolution behaves the same way.
Instructions:
1. Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> System Select -> Network Mode
2. Change Network Mode to "CDMA Only"
3. The Phone should restart
4. Turn on the browser
5. Go to google.com
6. See if it loads
This definitely will help me and all the other owners of this phone that may have this issue. My assumption is that our phones may be faulty on the old 3G networks. The VZW tech got a Samsung Charge on his desk and the website loaded perfectly fine under 3G mode so the network theoretically is all good.
If the phone turns out to be faulty, we all may have a phone that was partially broken the whole time.
Also, if your phone does behave this way, DO NOT EXCHANGE THE PHONE. I already have and it behaves the same way.
Note: The exchanged phone HAS NOT been rooted yet. Rooting doesn't appear to have any affect on the browsing capability.
EDIT: You may have to clear the cache because the browser may bring up the page from old data. Gmail.com doesn't work as well through the browser.
Testing now. Will edit this when I find out. Also, this will prolly get moved to general. Fair warning.
EDIT: I loaded Google just fine. and I only had 1 bar of service in 3G compared to the 2 bars I get with 4G in my house. That is kinda weird to me but whatever
oh my bad.... haha
Works fine here for me too. Maybe a little slower, but it still loads.
I am in a 3G only area with wifi turned off...Google did load, albeit very slowly. other pages are loading pretty quickly...

...we all do have a partially broken phone, but, it is what it is. on my phone, using the official Twitter app, bit.ly links will not work on 3G or WiFi with 3G radio on... they sit for days... but on 4G, and wifi with 3G radio turned off works as expected...
on topic: every once and again, google is stupid on all android phones i've had, (droid 2, x, evo, incredible, and this one) it's set to my home page, and what I do is i hit menu>>windows>> and then close the current window with nothing loaded. usually google then loads right up.

You are very wrong grasshopper. It is not a google phone. If you will note, it is loaded with Bing. It's a move to try to get away from the Google apps, due to crap that is above everyone's pay grade. There is stuff Google is dabbling in, that some companies don't entirely appreciate. Everything from their Earth program to geopolitical stuff.
As far as your issue, I don't have it either. I cleared the history and cache from my stock browser and Dolphin Browser. And then went in to the stock browser and loaded Google.com just fine.
As far as my messaging post here (in the development section) it must have just been the aliens, cuz now my messaging is working fine.
I have yet to find my phone's "issue"
I have noticed this as well. Google reader and google voice apps do not work for me unless I am on wifi. All other apps/websites seem to work fine.
I have noticed that google.com is slow all the time on my phone. I'm in a 4G area. I was just about to load the decrappified ROM to see if it fixed the problem.
Search for "set dns" on google market. I had sort of the same problem and using this solved it. In a nutshell, the DNS entry that came shipped on the phone doesn't work for 3g. Setting it to google DNS or OpenDNS solved the issue immediately. I'll have to find the article where I found this solution, I'll post the link when I find it again.

What I meant to say is, the Android platform was designed by Google. The Bing add-ins is an unfortunate extra that can't be changed by a novice user. The situation is kinda like having a Windows 7 computer that can't go on microsoft.com.

Good find. Fixed my google+ app not working. I was getting constant unable to contact servers. Changed out the DNS and the app and data came up almost instantly.

Good Find. Not sure if its speeding anything up. I've had to switch to Opera Mini because of horrendous connectivity issues with the stock browser, XScope? I'm hoping maybe this will speed up connections. Biggest complaint besides battery life I have about this phone. Using a browser is not a pleasant experience. If anyone has any suggestions to make that experience good, I'll take them.

Oh, right. I should clarify: this doesn't actually "speed up" your connection. It keeps your phone from having to wait until it's (bad) dns query times out. While this will resolve the slow downs caused by dns queries, it won't fix any other cause.

To add to the many other problems I seem to be having, my GPS has now stopped working. It first worked when I got the phone (a week ago) but now seems incapable of finding my location. All location services in google accounts, location settings, etc. are switched on but it just keeps saying my location is unavailable.
I'm really thinking of taking this phone back at this rate, or at least getting it exchanged because it's ridiculous. It shouldn't be this difficult just to get a phone to function fully.
+1 But am not gonna return it though...

I solved this way:
- Open google earth
- Click menu button
- select "my location"
You are redirected to a setting page where you can switch on gps location.
Hope it helps!
Is anyone else having issues with apps not being able to use GPS to find their location? Specifically, the weather extension from DashClock and Notification Weather Pro. Neither seems to be able to use just GPS to find my location. I must have network location turned in in order for them to work. That doesn't seem normal to me.

OK never mind, Notification Weather Pro seems to be working now. DashClock still can't find me though. Probably something wrong with DashClock.

Well I installed notification weather yesterday, which prompted this post. I spoke with the developer of the app last night and he said it was designed to function that way. I'm going to assume the same is the case with DashClock. That said, I have zero issues with GPS or any other app that uses location, including Maps.

I've had this problem on my N4 and this phone so I don't think it's specific to this device. If I turn off network location and wifi so that it ONLY uses GPS, it takes so long to lock a location that I just saw forget it. I've had to leave the wifi/network location active basically to have any function of quick GPS polls for things like weather.
my first realization was when I did a factory reset for the hell of it the other day to see if it would help anything. By default network/wifi location was off. I opened up maps to let it load and adjust location settings and it gave me the old "enable network/wifi" jargon which I ignored and set to never remind me. I sat here for 5 mins and didn't get a lock. Turned those settings on and instant gps no problem.
If you figure it out, please update because i'd be really interested too.

The dev I spoke to last night said this is exactly why his app requires both GPS and network location to work. He said GPS takes forever to find your location whereas network location is near instant. That said, I don't think there is any solution because there isn't necessarily a problem. It's just the way it is. Now my question is does having network location enabled cause any more of a battery drain than just GPS?

That's the kicker. I feel like it's a double edged sword. Turning them off IMO would save battery since there is less polling and work being done. But at the same time, when something needs gps, it's going to take longer to get the gps lock which would be more battery. So i'm not exactly sure and haven't done any real world testing yet.

Does it show you in the correct place in maps? If it doesn't use the send feedback button and send Google a report.
Most likely the WiFi access point you are pinging has the wrong location in Googles database.
I've had good results with Google fixing this on two occasions.
