Guys,
For some reason the Nexus 6 is showing the wrong weather location card in Google Now. It is showing a city about 40 miles SE of where I live. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks,
Y2J
May want to try resetting your device and/or toggling GPS. Also, what level of GPS accuracy are you using right now

High accuracy...I always use high accuracy...
Does it show you in the correct place in maps? If it doesn't use the send feedback button and send Google a report.
Most likely the WiFi access point you are pinging has the wrong location in Googles database.
I've had good results with Google fixing this on two occasions.

I didn't know that it would show a picture of the city you are in. I've been using it since day 1 and never seen anything that resembles where I live. I thought it was just a generic picture....?
Mine has always showed a place a couple miles away.... Thought it was just my device..
I got the same problem, only with google now, other location apps work like yahoo weather, maps, earth, news

When I use the Map or Traffic portion of Windows Live Search, and I say "Center on GPS", it works great; in a few seconds, it has fixed on my location, and if I'm moving it tracks me fine.
However, if I am trying to get directions, and I use "Current GPS Position" as a new starting point, it locks up Windows Live Search, and I have to end task it. Right now, it's set for "GPS Intermediate Driver" in the settings of Windows Live Search.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues and/or know how to resolve this?

Same issue. No workaround yet.
I got ONE set of directions ONCE - it was after I asked it for directions from static position A to Static Position B. Then put Center on GPS. it then asked me if I wanted directions from there instead... one out of 3 times it actually worked...
Anyway...

Come on - the two of us can't be the only ones with this issue. Can anyone confirm this works for them - or is this a problem for everyone?

Indoors the current gps location times out but the app does not hang. Just ran TT first and then tried current location indoors worked like a charm.
Outdoors no problem.
I have the same problem on my Tilt. Google Maps seems to work okay though.
Your lucky mine tells me I'm like 1 hour away from where I live.
google vs. live
I have the same problem with Live. Also, it seems to stop tracking every once in a while.
Google does the same thing, tracks fine and then stops.
I guess it is time to really consider Tom Tom.
Anyone tried a Topo program yet? I need to track myself on some trails and places that I don't have service.

I just recently over the past 2 days had that struggle as a very new user of the At&T tilt. Ultimately, I followed the suggestions from another forum and simply walked outside, powered down, powered up, and from a clear area, started Live search. It was back up as if nothing was wrong over the past couple days. It wasn't a quickgps issue and yes, I did break it a couple times. It all works now, live search, google maps and yahoo maps. Of course Yahoo's satelite view is a bit off but that's because the garage is new. The only thing I'm thinking may be a problem in the future is that xtra1.gpsonextra.net may or may not be a subscription service and call me a novice, and well, you'd be right, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to reference alternative satelite information download sites.

I had the issue with live search as well, I changed the GPS driver from Intermediate Driver to Com4 and haven't seen the issue since. I also upped the cache size to 64meg on the storage card but I doubt that was the change that helped.
I have a bit of a different issue, but maybe someone knows a solution.
I've installed WLS on my Tilt, ran it.. Runs fine, but whatever I click I don't see any maps. No roads, nothing. Just GPS triangle in the middle (GPS works fine I guess). The background is filled with ActiveSync-like icons (2 arrows in a circle). And that's it - nothing happens. Do I have to download maps separately?
Well I did find the solution.. if anybody else has this problem, look here:

I notice my Bing Maps doesn't show the right coordinates of my location. What could be wrong?
You could be standing indoors or somewhere where there's not a good enough GPS signal, or you may have location services switched off.

You are not alone. I started a thread where I called it =garbage. I don't want to generalize just in case it's a hardware issue on my part but it always shows my location in a different city and when using the GPS on maps it seems to always be trying to catchup.
GPS settings
How can we tell if the GPS has locked on to any satellites...or for that matter, if it's even on??? There doesn't seem to be any direct mention of GPS in the settings menu...just a general option to turn location services on or off. Am I missing something here...or does ms not think that giving users direct control over GPS is important?

Totally agree with you. My guess though is that when the circles radius is just a couple pixels from the central point then its GPS; since GPS is accurate to a couple feet and A-GPS when the radius is about half the screen. Again just guessing but I really do wish there was an option.

I believe you're right about the meaning of the radius of the circle in the stock map app. But, it probably isn't as obvious in other kinds of apps that use GPS.
I'm gonna shoot ms an email regarding this...and I suggest that anyone else that agrees that this is less than ideal do the same. Its too late to have them do anything about it in the upcoming January update, but if they hear enough complaints about it, maybe they'll do something about it in the update after that one.
Personally I'd rather Ms did NOT add in any such options. I have the option to use or not use location services, that's enough. Apps that can utilize GPS will switch the circuit on and use it while they're the active app. As soon as you switch away, the app tombstones and GPS switches off, to save battery life. That's just the way I like it, nice and simple. No need for an option of any kind there. It just works.

Jim, if the battery on my HD7 were more robust, I would agree with you. But it's not...so I don't. I would like the option to utilize only tower/WiFi triangulation...and to be able to enable my GPS only when I need my location to be precisely determined.
You are right...it does just work...which was more than I could say for my Vibrant's GPS for quite a while. But, access to any setting that could help me milk some more life out of my battery is access that I want.
GPS ?!?
I have both the HD2 and the HD7. The HD7 with services ON show my location over half a mile away from my office. This is consistent and constant. It shows me in the middle of a hwy norht east of my office. My HD2 not have this issue. It pinpoints my location, tells me in meters how accurate it is and tells me how many satellites it is in contact with. It will actually follow me accurately around the building inside and out. What's the problem with the HD7?? Seems like it is a step backward to me in this regard!

How wide is the circle around the dot? It may be using the Cell tower / WiFi to determine your position and therefore be very inaccurate.
What country are you in?
I guess it's possible that the actual maps are wrong and are showing the incorrect map overlay for your country?
after reading this thread i tested my HD7 with the bing map and its accurate, showed me where i am i changed to aerial map to confirm it...
i believe the data (3G) have to be connected, i am on unlimited data plan so its on all the time, wifi do not work as i tested with the wifi after that and it showed my location far away from my home...
this should fix everyones issue Go to setting and select find my phone check box both opitions and now try bing maps again. you will also notice well driving bing maps will keep a better track well your moving
did that and it now works perfectly, previously it was over a mile off my actual location
Me living in Thailand, whenever my HD7 connected to WIFI (no matter where), the current location always changes to San Jose. I have no idea why this happens ?

That's suck...
Make them REAL MS !!
hd7 no gps please help
gps dosent work on google maps when i flash back to old rom gps works
As far as I know location services do not use GPS exclusively. It uses GSM cell and tower info as well to speed up approximation and let enough time for GPS satellite locking. GSM cell data is stored in internet databases (do not know where and how) but if there is a mislocated tower (e.g.i Thailand) your location might be determined in a wrong way.
To keep it simple M$ hidden this mixed mode location service. I don't know what happens if you switch off location service in settings and use a GPS application for locating yourself. Is there a difference? Might be.
Gps Status app not showing satellites for some reason ??
Latitude & longitude seem ok anyone else having this problem ?
I do have stand alone gps turned on & internet data assist on in app
Google locate & verizon locate are off
Have you tried turning google locate on? I've had several apps that either wouldn't locate or would take a very long time (when standing outside) to get a lock with just stand alone gps.

Since my original post I have tried about every combo of settings
Over on the motorola forum they seem to think blur is blocking things somehow?
To your reply yes I did & no it didnt help but thanks
Where are they supposed to be shown? Not sure what I"m looking for. Seems to be working, but, like you say, I don't see any specific satellites anywhere.
B-)
Having the same problem with GPS Test+ from the Android Market... app is working, GPS is working... will not show satellite status bars or satellite location... luv to find a fix...
Does your guys vivid find your location on google.com mine says location unavailable I tired everything to fix it and it still doesn't work any advice ?

The GPS thing is odd for me too. It shows me where I am perfectly, however shows my girlfriend sitting over on a nearby airport runway when she is right next to me. She has the Thunderbolt on Verizon.
And to make it even more strange... She sees me over there too but her phone shows her location perfectly.
And it's always off like that... no matter where we are. we see ourselves fine but each other as off by about 1000 feet or so.
Wow that is weird does your location show on google.com ?

Mines dead on and Fast.
Do you receive any pop ups when you first launch Maps about improving your Location?
You may want to turn on Wifi (you don't have to connect to any Networks).
Wifi on speeds the process up quite a bit.
A few years ago Google was in the hot seat for gathering Wifi info while gathering data for Street View.
all third part apps work fine on finding my location maps finds its quick and fast my problem is on google.com the browser in general does not find my location it keeps saying location unavailable

I have the same problem and found a couple more. The Places tab on google .com does not work either. If you hit the Facebook website and try to use the check in feature, it won’t let you. So it’s definitely a gps/browser issue.
same here anyone have any advice to fix this

I've tried contacting HTC about this. Has anyone heard of a possible fix?
AT&T referred me to HTC because they did not have a solution. HTC had me check all settings and do a soft reset but that did not work. I was not willing to do a factory reset. HTC said that since the phone is new they are waiting on customer feedback to see what issues the phone has before they issue a patch. So I guess this will stay an unresolved issue until then.
Any word on a fix for this? I'm encountering 'Location unavailable' in the browser (any browser, actually, tried Dolphin and Firefox) and I can't seem to fix it. I actually DID do a factory reset, no dice (restoring nandroid now).
Maps apps (Maps, My Tracks, Latitude) work fine and locate me whether I'm on wifi, LTE, GPS on/off. Same with widgets. Everything but the browser. It's really frustrating. I've tried every combination of settings, both in the browser and the general phone settings.
For what it's worth, I've been in touch with HTC, and they're looking into it. I won't hold my breath.
My Location
This is so frustrating!!!
When I'm at work My Location (image and info) is correct, but at home my image is correct but my info shows the street behind my house!

If you are talking about the position marker on the map, GPS positions and/or the apps using them can be off. At work and at home, the marker can be as much as 50 feet from where I am actually located. This may be due to the number and position of the satellites being tracked. I have found some apps to be more accurate than others. Personally, I think the Vivid GPS works well, but you are rarely going to have the marker less than 15-20 feet of your actual position -- unless you are a military weapon or a military target.
Has anyone experienced issues when Maps is trying to get a location? Can't get one, not even setting it in High accuracy. Seems odd for Google to modify control of GPS like that, i don't want my device turning it on even if it's for a short period of time. Any feedback will be apreciated.

I was having the same problem, Google Maps took forever to locate me and did not work in the end. I uninstalled the latest update and it seems to work now. The newest update screws it up.

same here, not just Google Maps for me, but also other apps that use location. eg foursquare and weather apps
