*TIP* Ice Cream Sandwich SD Card - Motorola Droid 3

I installed Dual Mount SD Widget from android market on Ice Cream Sandwich Alpha 1 Build and was finally able to access my externel SD Card on my PC.
*Do Not Use android auto mount option* - apparently bad things will come of this. just select the second option. place the widget on a screen, enable with usb connected.
unable to post link - just search it in the market
hope this helps some others

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

I have found that sometimes I have to toggle it on and off before my computer sees it. But that could also be Windows 7 x64 and my laptop has finicky usb ports.
I still haven't tried Droid explorer to see if it can be accessed that way as well.gonna try tonight or tomorrow morning.

Found out this morning I seem to get best results by toggling it on, plugging in USB, toggling it off, and toggling on again while leaving the usb plugged in. Will be trying Android Explorer this morning.

Square app

I am running KaosFroyo v35.1 and was trying to download the Square app from the market, but it doesn't look like I can download it using Froyo. Does anybody know how I can get it from the market or maybe someone can send me the .apk?

You can't download it on KaosFroyo v35.1? That's weird 'cause I've been using it on my small business eversince version 30 on KaosFroyo. What do you mean with "doesn't look like I can download it using Froyo"? The app can't be downloaded? You can't see it in the Market? Or what?
If you can't see it in the Market, search for the Eris Market Fix. Follow the instructions. Reboot and clear Market data in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Market > Clear Data
I read somewhere that there was an issue where most people running 2.2 would not be able to download the Square app. I tried looking in the market and it does not show up, even after the market fix.
edit: I did a dalvik wipe and now it shows up on the market thank you!
I'm glad you got it have fun swiping!

I've got it, but it keeps telling me to "Please Swipe Again". Any ideas?

When you plugged the square, did you see a "key" logo poped out?
You should swipe the card fast and straight.
Yes, I saw the key. Still not working.

Same issue here, after a few emails being sent back and forth between Square and I they told me the Eris is not an officially supported device
They did offer some support in saying to plug the device in slowly. Doing this I have been able to get it to work a few times.
Well, that stinks.
Gotta give this a shot! Nothing like saving on fees!

Not true buddy.. it works on my Eris running on KaosFroyo 3.7.
Here's what you do.
1) Plug in your square device
2) Go to advanced task manager or any task killer and make sure you kill any media player that runs automatically when you plug a device into the headphone jack
3) Adjust your volume once... up or down does not matter what level
4) Run Square app
5) Now swipe the card fast and straight. It only works one way.. the metallic strip of your card facing the square device smooth surface (not the surface with the square logo)
Cheers. Let me know if it still doesn't work for you.

[Q] Gingervolt 1.2 and Car Home App

Moving from Revolt 1.5 (working Car Home App, triggered by the car LG car dock) to Gingervolt 1.2, for some reason, my navigate and map button states " Activity not found". If I leave car mode, and and select navigate or map app, it works. Is there way to relink? "Add short cut " only option is Direct dial.
I will have to modify it again. Honestly I forgot lol. Give me a couple days and I will get something out!

Idea... Need some help

So I upgraded my phones but my son still loves to play with my old G1. I was wondering if anyone knew how much of the base os I could remove.
For instance I just want it to play movies, music, connect to wifi, and play games. I don't want it to have ANY calling capability or have it bug me about no SIM card.
Found a list in Cyanogenmod's wiki as to what is safe to remove. I added a few more on to that list and will be adding a couple of apps to the initial install. Will update as I go. Link below.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones
So I booted up my phone and uninstalled the phone.apk and some others...a few errors pop up every now and then... But I'm betting that someone who knows coding can fix the acore errors. I'm going to continue working on this. Wish me luck.

Funny, I was coming here to look for the same thing. I'm administering some Linux boxes, and I was thinking how much easier if it would be if I just had a small handheld device with a physical keyboard that I could run ssh through, then I remembered my G1 in the drawer.
Someone (me, if I ever learn how to do it) should make a Rebirth/Recycle ROM for this phone that strips out the phone capability and just supports it as a streamlined pocket-sized utility and gaming device. Maybe some other linux would be better than Android for that.
- Terminal
- Web browser
- Game emulators (better with a physical keyboard)
- Media player
- Media Center Remote
Anyway, just throwing it out there for brainstorming.
I found this over at cyanogenmod. I'm gonna start here and modify to my needs. I'll post here when I get it setup

You found a thread about how to do this at CM forums? I was just browsing around there and couldn't find it. Link?
Heh...helps if I add the link.

Remove Sim card, put in airplane mode, voila no Sim card errors.
You can turn on GPS and wifi while airplane mode is on.
And you could probably rip out the phone and text messing apps with titanium backup.

I have tried this and my son still managed in his playing to take it out of airplane mode. So I want to just avoid the problem entirely. Plus I want to try and keep my G1 useable. It holds a certain sentimentality.

From my experience if you remove the phone.apk acore starts to force close constantly and then it doesn't boot at all
But really, theres not too much to worry about.
99% of G1s can be restored by flashing DREAIMG.nbh from fastboot
And by the way you should try a custom ROM or two
Or with LauncherPro you can hide apps from the home drawer
But I think LauincherPro needs a newer version of Android
(Try froyobylaszlo, or frayo..which is froyobylaszlo but you can choose what system apps to install)

I actually found that after hunting around for a while...
Yep, I loaded ES Task Manager (or Killer, can't remember), and looked up running processes that were on that list in your link to see if I could strip them out and save some memory. Managed to take out the Messager service without any issues. Seems to be working pretty good.

Installed cm-7.2.0-encore, some issues

I had nook 1.3 stock then I installed manualnooter-4-5-18, after that installed cm-7.2.0-encore on it. I didn't clear any cash nor formatted any partition. Now it boots up correctly but there are some issues:
1- PC can't read SD and internal storage and shows to empty Removable Drives. So I can't copy new apks into it.
2- Why Camera and Messaging applications are present on my nook which doesn't have does capabilities?
3- The process com.android.settings stop when I click on CyanogenMod settings.
BTW captchas are really hard to read.

When coming from stock to CM7, you really need to do a factory reset (via CWM) either before or after putting CM7 on. There are too many incompatibilites between the two. That is why you are getting the errors.
Camera and messaging apps are sometimes necessary before some apps will install, even if not used.

Don't understand sorry. But I think I did something wrong like asking questions instead of searching or vague questions? I just can't access SD and internal storage of my Nook from PC.
[off the record] I borrowed a SD from my sister and she needs it and she is going to kill me if I don't give it back [/off the record]
Got it working. Just took a while for Google to update. Thanks anyway.

Oh, from the PC. I thought you meant you could not see them on the nook. Probably the reason you cannot see them is you have not turned them on. It is not automatic like stock. After you plug in the USB cable and the removable drives show, pull down the notification area on the nook and select turn on computer access. That will make the removable drives change to show your sdcard and emmc. Or you can use a program from my tips thread called NookColorUMS.

Thank you. notification area was somehow behind status bar (the bar which has the clock on it) so I couldn't see it. This status bar is in front of everything.

The notification area is supposed to be behind the status bar. You need to take your finger and drag from the bottom to get to show. You should see the bar to push then. Then you drag it back down when finished.

[Q] USB mass storage in 4.0.4

Dumb question but...
How to set USB mass storage in 4.0.4?
Having problems finding out how.
Tried with debugging off and on.
Didn't see how in any menus.
Box of rocks.
Please see second reply for corrected answer.
What?
You have to go through this just to copy a file or two from PC to external SD card.
I'll just take the card out.
Don't have to do it very often.
Thanks for replying.
Re: Please help me
Sorry. Misunderstood. Just pull down the notification window, hit the "connected as..." thing and you can switch from there. If it doesn't work, than you need newer drivers.
They sure hid that well.
Now, if I could only remember how to mark it solved.
Thank you,
dlw
You might also consider the samba filesharing app. It sets up your sd card so you can browse to it like a windows file share.
