Defy Car Dock and Battery 1700mAh (HF5X) - Defy Accessories

I thought everybody should know this. Our Normal Defy should work with the 1700mAh battery with the patch provided in the Development thread.
Or you can download it here too.
1) The OEM motorola HF5X 1700mAh (SNN5890) found selling HERE
2) The Defy car dock that triggered the Cardock application found selling HERE

Do you have experiences with this OEM battery?

I came to a 1500 battery with your link...
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App

The official car dock can't be found in a physical store here in Greece. One can order it only by web.

new battery will not work with Defy. Due to the implementation of different technologies Li-ion -> Li-pol and different voltage! even after applying the patch, the battery will not be charged for the full

I've read about this- any other reports?
Is this the 85% charged symptom?

Nice... i love it

I have motorola MB525 defy bought in September 2011. Last week, my phone battery got deep discharged and the phone won't boot even after plugging in the charger.
As the phone was under warranty, i got the battery replaced yesterday but i got HF5X 1700mAh (the one in Defy+) as replacement. The service centre guy said that it would work with my Defy.
I kept the phone on charging for more than 12 hours continuously but the battery keeps charging and battery level is not going beyond 80%.
Can you please suggest what should i do? Can your OEM patch help? If yes, how do I use it?

Just for clarity... is it that the battery IS charged but the battery indicator doesn't show this? Or is it actually NOT charging?

it is definitely better for battery life when we are charging it every time 80% instead of 100%, true and maybe this was service guy main idea..

I do not think that the battery charges to full as battery voltage reaches a max of 4.158 V. Whereas, as per what I've read about Defy+ battery, it needs to be charged upto 4.4 V for full charge.
Any Idea how to make it charge to full 4.4 V?

Hey Wawroo,
I don't think the service guy was even aware that the battery would not charge to full capacity.
And btw,can u please explain how is it better to charge the battery upto 80% only and not 100%?

I disagree with the idea to be better for the battery life to charge up to 80% instead full capacity. I always charge it up to full capacity, and after 10 months my Defy spend 2 days and 10 hours to complete discharge the battery. I am using the CM7.2 with battery recalibration.
By the way, I think your software doesn't recognize the new battery capacity. You should try some battery recalibration in case you have the recovery menu.

Thanks Cristianosite for the reply.
Can you please help me about this 'Recovery Menu'? I mean, what is this and how do I get it on my phone?

@coolravsun
Recovery menu is a tool which allow us to access some 'service' options in our device, such as flash alternatives roms, battery recalibration, wipe cache, wipe data, etc... You will find more details on Defy XDA Wiki. To get this you have to root your device. In the wiki you will find more details.
However, please pay attention to the comment of veimus.

I have my phone rooted and have got the clockworkmod recovery installed.
I just wiped all battery statistics via recovery menu and factory-reset my defy (took nandroid back-up of my phone b4 dat). And then, put my phone to charging in the switched-off state. It charged to 100% in about 2 hours. But, within 2-3 minutes of as I turned it ON, the battery dropped to 90%. I have not restored my backup yet and am planning to use the phone till it drops to 10% and then again charge it to full.
What do you suggest?

this thing is nice for me to travel! ordered 1

Even after using this method, the battery is still charging uptill 80% and the life isn't as good as it was with my original Defy battery. Also, i tried the app 'BATTERY REPAIR' available on android market. But it didn't help either. Going to the motorola service center to get the Defy+ battery replaced.

1700mah battery working in ur defy? or u changed to 1500 one?

To solve the problem on defy with defy+ battery try flash cm9 quarx ou epsylon Defy+ rom. And DON'T apply the the battery fix patch. Since the patch was made to use in regular defy, the rom is designed to work with defy+ battery. But you can't flash it on green lens because it will brick the cam.

do any of the battery fix for cm9 work???

Try another Rom Super D v1.9.3 and SuperFast v1.3.3 are excellent Donut (1.6) ones to test your battery issue.
ok ill try out SuperD thanks
I will bet that your battery issues are not ROM-related. Being that its an after-market battery, and used, it's probably outliving its life spam. To my knowledge, batteries are meant to provide a certain number of charges, every time you plug the power cable into the phone to charge it, that constitutes for one charge. Whether its for 5 minutes, or 5 hours. They usually have a set number, somewhere around 500 charges. After that, it slowly stops holding a solid charge.
I would suggest buying a NEW battery, not used.

Youre assumption is correct, thats why I directed him to flash a Donut rom to test and see if the short battery life occurs again.
Until we hear from him we wont be 100% in our hypothesis.
Youve gotten ahead of me and commented about the battery being the culprit, damn, beat me to it. ha ha ha.
i would say its lasting longer, but only by 1 to 2 hours more. so im going to buy a new battery. thanks for the advice tho
ALSO, while downgrading to Donut, While wiping, MAKE SURE your battery is FULLY CHARGED and wipe the battery stats. Check back.
ok my battery wasnt fully charged while wiping everything and downgrading. instead of re-flashing and downgrading can i just re-calibrate my battery? sorry for the late reply
me too
same rom - same problem .
i have a genuine battery , my g1 last one hour and 12 mins with the super froyo rom.]
real shame as i love the rom .
I have that rom and it the best battery life I have found so far on this phone...
There's a thread similar to this bellow and I recommended this:
3 thinks you can do
1)check for a better rom and\or verify if your gps, wi fi and on while this happens
2)Recalibrate your battery
2A Discharge it until it shuts itself off.
2B) Recharge it back to full and then leave it charging for another few hours even after it says it is full
2C)repeat if needed
3)buy a new one...
Good luck

[Q] Bought a Seidio 1800mAh but no difference in performance.

Hey guys so i bought an 1800mAh battery for my IS and i don't seem to be getting any extra juice really. My main concern is that the phone still thinks i am on theold one and indicating that i am on reserve power when i'm actually not. Is there some utility i can use that gives me accurate feedback as to how much juice is left in my battery or are my suspicions unfounded?
TIA
If your IS is S-OFF then you should be able to use ClockworkMod Recovery to wipe battery status. And to calibrate new battery, you need to charge the new battery until full (there's some dispute on whether to leave it charging for 8 to 12 hours), and then use it until the phone tells you to charge (~1% left).
But NEVER drain your battery to 0%
Finally repeat that process for at least 4 times, new battery calibration done!

Not 100% correct.
If you notice that your battery-left-show-thingy doesn't really match how much battery you really have left, you should use the phone untill it dies. When the phone dies because the battery is "empty" (in quotation marks since it isn't 100% empty if I can recall what I learned from my electronics course correctly..) it re-calibrates the battery stats and should be more accurate next boot.
But except for that fact you're right
If you want the battery to have as long lifetime as possible, keep between 30% and 70% all the time, and when you're not going to use the battery for a long time charge it to 40%!

[Must read]About to buy a 2430mAh battery?

Hi,
I guess you are about to buy a 2430mAh battery (made in Japan?) so I am going to tell you about it. I bought one in ebay from "kknsell"(1st attached)
I have to keep this one because return shipping it is not worth the refund
I don't know how this guy can have so many positive feedbacks and so few negative ones. Whatever, DON'T trust him, he wont email you back once you have bought it!
I'll tell you, I full charged it and wiped battery stats. Then I discharge it to calibrate, but it didn't take too much because after setting screen to max. and playing Apparatus I could see the battery draining fast as hell, about 1% in less than a minute, sometimes it looked like a timer!
You might think "You must have calibrated it wrong", but then I charged it 20 seconds, wiped battery stats and fully charged it again. Now it last about 70% of original battery life. I don't know if it's safe enough but sometimes it overheats a bit.
Now there are 2 different batteries left(2 last Attached)
I dont know about them but these don't have the text printed in landscape and have a sightly difference between them. May one of these is not a fake one so if any of you have bought a real 2340 battery please post it to help other people not to get scammed
Hi!, i'm chilean and here some people are selling this battery too. This guy recommended to fully charge the battery and it takes a week to calibrate :/
PD: sorry for my english :s
Battery life doesn't fully depend on the capacity but the brand and quality of the cells used

Are you using an original battery? I used to solve this issue with an app called "battery calibration" or doing something I read a month ago but I can't find the post
I just remember it was something like this:
1- Discharge the battery till the phone powers off and leave it alone for 10 minutes
2- keep turning it on till it doesn't get to boot animation
3- enter in recovery menu and wipe battery stats quickly, if you didn't have enough power just charge it for 30 seconds and retry
4- leave it alone for 5 minutes and charge it for 5 hours
This is not mine, I don't know who was the author but all credits go to him
Also this can be dangerous especially with a li-ion polymer battery as a 2430 mAh is, because when li-ion batteries overcharge they can explode and when discharge too much they break down and can catch fire if charged
Thanks for your post sir. I almost bought that one. whew
Battery Calibration how to guide
First of all. Please notice, if it doesen't work for you, if you doesen't experience any change DO NOT KILL YOURSELF! Please don't do it, there are so many thing in this life and in this world, all waiting for you! I wrote this because of 008bond's "advice."
Something about battery calibration.
How-to:
1. Turn on your phone and charge it to full. It's not full when it says "Unplug the charger", it's full when a small green baterry icon with 100% in it appears in the left upper corner.
2. Leave the charger plugged in and turn off your phone. It will charge again for approx. 20 minutes.
3. When it's full get into CWM recovery, go to advanced, and choose wipe battey stats.
4. Rebbot your phone, but do not pull out the charger.
5. Leave it on the charger till the little green icon appears again in the upper left corner.
6. Pull out the charger, use your phone normally (as you use it), till it turns off itself (that's important).
7. Charge it to 100% (you don't have to turn off your phone), and enjoy it.
To make it clear calibration won't make your battery lasts longer. The only thing it does, that your phone will display the correct percentage of the battery, so when your battery is on half power, you will see 50%. Because of this, you will get the correct data, it helps you to estimate when you will have to charge it again. (Before the calibration, my battery usually drained to 20%, and than stay there for almost a day :S)
I usually calibrate it after flashing a nwe rom, or when I feel that something is not good with the battery.
You can use Google to search after it, you'll find this.
Btw: there's an app on Market aka Play, called Battery Calibration, it needs root, it has a user's guide in the main screen, it's quite exactly the same, what I wrote.
How many times must I post this? Those incorrect stats are supposed to be a problem in cyanogenmod ROMs or the new battery itself.
Callibration does absolutely nothing.

LOL!!! Ok, there you go. I edited my post.
Looking around the Internet I found these batteries, that are available for a lot of phones, are just ****ty blank ones with that golden sticker over. Mine was about 800 mAh according to some apps after running a full cycle.
Some sellers have positive feedback because they sell a lot of accesories, not just batteries, or buyers are resellers that just care about receiving the batteries and they don't use them. But if you look on the negatives feedbacks you'll find out what's happening.
It's logical to think that such a great battery like this with Li-polymer tech and 2430mAh is too cheap for 10$ and a battery cant store doble in the same size even using the best technologies.
So if you want a 2430mAh battery just buy a marker(it's cheaper) and write whatever you want on your battery. To some people placebo effect works just great!
Oh man, I was so close to buying this one too! Thanks a lot for this.
So I'm guessing the only good battery for the Ace would be the 1650mAh one coming out? And not even, 300mAh won't make that much of a difference :/

[Q] I879 battery life

I have flashed my Att I897 with RemICS JB rom, and then I ran the battery dead. Then I fully charged it and it doesn't last 5 hrs now. I even calibrated the battery. Any ideas, or is this normal with custon rom?
Have you tried any other roms? Download a battery stat app let it run a few days and see what's using up all of the battery. Did this happen prior to flashing or no?

I have been running this rom for a few weeks, with no issues. Then went out and bought a new phone, and my brother needed one so I gave my I897 to him . I reflashed it, to clean everything up and let him put on the apps he wanted. And the battery does with in 4-6 hrs. I will d/l the stat app and see where is goes.
I have another I897 runnig the same rom, on my daughters phone, and it has great battery life still.
added thoughts
if your brother is making heavy use of the phone, with screen on much of the time, then 4 to 6 hours is normal.
running the batt dead once shouldn't kill it. there are protections in pm chip to stop before batt voltage gets too low.
aging, as in several hundreds of charge cycles, will reduce batt capacity to half or less of original capacity.
---------- Post added at 05:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 AM ----------
oh, and swapping the batteries between the two phones and running a few days will tell if battery age is the problem.
I'd say it's time for a new battery. 2y old battery has significantly reduced capacity. I'm using original Samsung Epic 4G Touch SPH-D710 1800mAh battery, fits well in Captivate with stock cover. Battery life is very good for a smart phone. Stand-by >48h easily, holds >18h with about 2h talk + 3-4h screen on. Currently on SlimBean 2.5 ROM. Search eBay, it's about $15 only. Avoid cheap noname 1800mAh (or even more "on paper") Chinese batteries, usually the real capacity is well below claimed capacity.

I was getting a good 10 hrs on it till I reflashed it this last time. I had great battery life with that little phone. That includes texting and FB'ing talking
I have 2 more and I still get great battery life.
I've never tried RemICS JB but I'm in doubt the ROM itself is causing battery drain. I'm getting almost same battery live with CM10 Stable, PAC-ROM, SaltyBean SE, SlimBean. Currently running SlimBean. Make sure it's not an app you install after flashing the ROM. Never restore system data from your previous ROM, just user apps + data. Look at the battery panel and you'll see what is draining your battery. Btw, clearing battery stats does nothing. You can't really calibrate the battery. Android OS will adjust battery meter automatically after 2-3 recharges.

Yeah. I found out one prob was he was trying to charge it with just hooking it up to a pc. Know it seems back to normal since he used the wall charger, for a overnight charge
I've charged from the PC many times with decent battery life results... Don't know if that's the reason why the battery life has been cut short.
A good way to gauge what is causing the battery drain would be to do as ValD said. See what is using up the most battery life from the battery panel and try to deduce it from there.
Have you tried full wipe, re-d/l the ROM, and flashing the ROM again? Double check the md5 or sha1 code from the website when you d/l the ROM too.

yeah, some PC only provide max 100ma per port, which means ~ 15 hrs. and the cap in phone for usb is set to 350ma, or about 5 hours, unless you have kernel that supports fast usb charging.
still, if the phone was charged to 100%, it shouldn't matter whether AC charger or PC used. Was he not charging it to 100% ?
fyi, the difference to phone is that pins 2 and 3 of usb are shorted in AC charger. This causes phone to allow higher charging current, up to 900ma, or as much as battery can take without overheating.

Fully charging takes more then 2 days??

Hello,
Since yesterday my phone needs more then 2 days to completely charge? Can this be ROM related or is my device damaged?
I'm running CM10.1 with stock kernel btw.
Thanks!

Check your charger first. A corrupted/duplicate charger would take long enough time to charge the battery to 100%
If it's ok, Try to charge your battery in a similar device. If it charge properly, then the problem might be in hardware.
If it not charging properly in other device, it's time to change your battery..:fingers-crossed:

I tried charging the old battery and that goes really fast. At least for me it's normal. It went from about 55% to 88% in 1,5-2 hours so happily it's not device related. Seems that the new battery isn't working properly. Or should i setup something to make my device recognize the new battery?

There's nothing to setup for a new battery. Only just in first use you have to charge it continuously for about 2-3 hours to calibrate it with the device.
Try one thing, fully discharge the battery to 0% and charge it up to 100% continuously.(whatever time it takes) :fingers-crossed:
If it not helps, change the battery.

There's a doubt. If it's because of a faulty battery, the drain will also be worst na.? But he didn't mentioned it.
