New Galaxy Mini/Pop/??? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hello,
Just got what was marketed as a Galaxy mini here in Canada from Mobilicity. I notice that it is quite different to what is being referred to as a Galaxy mini here. The one I have does not have any physical butons on the front of the phone, only 4 capacitive buttons. It is model number SGH-499y. I found it on Samsung's website here.
I am intending to upgrade it to gingerbread, as it is only on froyo now. Even though this phone is different from the one discussed here, will the guides and the ROMs here still work? I am just worried that it won't recognize the buttons or something (is that possible?).
I also did find this guide. Which would have me upgrading it to the european version, and then I think I'd be able to install Clockworkmod and flash a new rom. Is this a better idea?
Thanks for your help,
-TT

Bump.

Hmm the model number of your phone is quite different from the S5570 that we all know as Galaxy Mini, I don't think the roms that we have here are compatible.
If you try to install them you might get your phone bricked.
I'm not really sure though.

Can we find simiar problem of the GT-I9000 on the Nexus S or it has been fixed?

Hi everyone.
I was wondering something about this new Nexus S....
I'm currently the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M From Bell in Canada.
Today at CES 2011 they said that the Nexus S will come to Canada.
I got 4 replacement for the GT-I9000M since August (in fact since october). The internal Memory Failed, The battery life was poor, 3 button recovery was not enabled, GPS innacurate, Hard time connecting it to my computer and all the stuff said in bad about this phone I got it.....
Since the Nexus S is almost the same (hardware speaking) I was wondering if all the bugs that the SGS suffer from was happening with the Nexus S?
Is the Partition Table is the same?
Do Internal Memory Fail once again?
Is there any issue with Recovery mode?
GPS problems?
Poor battery life?
Any Lag issue?
I really enjoy my SGS when it's not failing but the Nexus S attract me a little more since it got 2.3 and update straight from Google instead of waiting after the carrier "testing" the new rom...
So anyone having or tested both phone or can speak with experience in here?
Thanx
all the problems are only in the I9000M model
the other I9000*.* are no where near as buggy as the Bell version, so you can't really just the whole basket of apple, by just 1 rotten apple
and the Nexus S is not that great, there are a lot of limitations, probably because it's too new.
the Nexus S also has its own share of minor annoyances, that can be fixed one way or another
And what is causing the GT-I9000M to be more buggy than the others?
Aren't they using the same hardware?
I Mean corrupted memory will happen even if i use custom rom and kernel...
And there is still lagfix app that work for everybody not just the M...

SGS Evolved?

Interesting news....
It looks like Samsung's follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy S, the inventively nicknamed Galaxy S2, will be formally announced at Mobile World Congress -- the massive phone trade show in Barcelona that kicks off on Valentine's Day, 14 February.
The MWC arrival was tipped by Korean newspaper Chosunilbo just before the new year, and new reports from etnews add fuel to the burning speculation bonfire.
It looks as if the Galaxy S2 will offer a massive 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen to boot, that's the same size display as you'd find on the truly enormous HTC Desire HD. The S2 is also tipped to have a dual-core processor, which is in line with comments made by Samsung reps at CES, which just wrapped up last week.
Finally, the S2 will hit the ground running Android 2.3, which is what we'd expect, and should bring the phone in line with the Google Nexus S, also built by Samsung. The report on etnews also mentions the phone will sport NFC technology, which could be used for mobile payments -- but that could turn out to be anything, and most likely nothing in the UK.
There's also a rather blurry mock-up picture included, which unless you tend to read articles from the bottom up, you've already enjoyed at the top of the page. There's not a lot to see, apart from an intriguing squarish design

Looks like it'll be uncomfortable in my pocket...
not gonna buy a samsung product again, ever ;p

+1....never again for me either.
Could that be this?
I'm never getting samsung phone again I'm happy with mine now its got darkys rom on it
Yeh no samsung , BUY SONY ERRICSON INSTEAD
I still don't get it. I've had the DESIRE HD , I see many people with the iPhone and still I prefer my galaxy S. and I know many others do , if you hate your galaxy S SOO MUCH that you WILL NEVER buy from samsung I'm always wondering what you are doing @ this forum? Just flaming the galaxy s because you have another phone? Feeling so important by telling people that you will never buy
I cant deny that the Galaxy S hazzz problems , not anymore though now with the rom/firmware I'm using and no way I would replace atm with another phone.
Maybe it's just me.
Best of luck
after using
iPhone 3gs
iPhone 4
htc hd2
htc hero
htc dream
htc desire hd
htc desire
samsung wave
and now the samsung galaxy s
I find it the best phone 2.2.1 works just fine I dont care about gingerbread.
I will buy another samsung as they are good phone and makes the lcds for most phone anyway.
Gingerbread doesn't bring anything new anyway so big whoop if it doesn't come to the Galaxy S. Why waste time and resources when the vast majority couldn't care less about Gingerbread? Less than 10% of Galaxy S owners are tech savy anyways.
If it were a huge update like Froyo, different story. Those who are complaining about Samsung not providing the update (or announcing it officially) and then *****ing about never buying Samsung, show me another phone manufacturer who is.

Any idea if Samsung will use Nv's Tegra or their own dual core processor?

Well.... seeing as this is the Captivate forum, you might get some biased responses.
I guess I'll take a crack at it. Remember that this is based on my point of view.
First off, the Captivate runs Android, and has a large dev community. I personally think that's the biggest plus after owning it for a year. Call quality is pretty great IMO. Hardware is a pretty big plus, too. This phone, after rooting and ROMing and all, can compete with most new phones. Not necessarily in benchmarks, but day-to-day use. I couldn't really go to another phone if it didn't have SAMOLED, either. I mean the displays that these phones are equipped with are magnificent. Phone doesn't feel like a pile of plastic in hand. Won't say it's the sturdiest ever, but it's got decent build quality. Samsung is pretty good at warrantying stuff as well, at least as far as I've warrantied phones. 16gb internal + 32gig sd is a godsend.
Now a few cons. Camera isn't the greatest, no front-facing camera, stock rom (haven't been passed 2.1, so I can't comment for other stock roms) is absolutely horrendous. No camera flash, not the greatest batt life ever (nowhere near as bad as the inspire lol), no HSPA+ (I still get around 4 down 1 up). Never truly had any bad GPS issues, as most others have had.
I can't say I've posted everything, but that's just stuff off the top of my head. oh and..... afaik the rogers and att captivates are the same, just different branding.

no i live in canada sorry
You might wanna go for a infuse instead, most of your cons have been addressed on it. Not as many roms though. Or just wait and get a SGS II pretty much superior, except its sound. Just my 2 cents

Does i896 have Audience chip support? (just curious)
Ive had my Captivate for a while, and have only read on the Captivate forums, but decided im gonna get into posting ect. Im currently on Dlev's ROM, but I want to move on a get an SGS II but the prices are absurd.
I did notice you are a ROgers user right?
Well the SGS II comes to Bell in 2 weeks dont know if that'll help you or not haha.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note i717R or GT-N7000

Hello all,
I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note i717R from someone and I got it unlocked to use with Bell Mobility.
I've rooted the phone and it feels that the phone lags sometimes. I don't even have much installed. In fact I had much more stuff installed on my previous SGS2! Even the batter life is poor than what I was getting on my S2. (4 hrs vs 2 hrs screen time). I'm not complaining about battery life. Just stating my results.
Anyways, my question is wether I should sell the i717R model and buy the International (N7000) model. I've heard/read stuff that the International version is way better than the devices provided by AT&T, Bell, Rogers etc. Is it true? OR
am I better off staying with my i717R.
Selling the i717R isn't a problem, and neither is buying the N7000! I'm sure I will get it for the same price!
Please suggest...
Thanks!
Do it. I switched and am incredibly happy. I love the home button too.

Awesome, a few more responses and my decision will be firm!
Thanks for your reply!
Definitely go for N7000!
Yes definitely N7000! I purchase i717 at first too but within days I returned it and purchase N7000. I'm extremely happy with the decision. No lags what so ever and home button is so useful.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I had a I717 before (AT&T model). The phone lagged so much I sold it on the same day I bought it and ordered the N7000. Best decision ever.
Though the N7000 lacks LTE and NFC, the development (ROMS, etc), Exynos processor, and the physical "home" button makes-up for it.
Go for the intl. Note N7000. I have one and I am EXTREMELY happy with it. Although I haven't had a chance to experience the i717 version of the Note, I can say that there is so much available for flashing the note and rooting. And the Exynos Proccy and the physical home button should just about seal the deal. Just check the Android Development thread of the N7000 to understand what I am talking about. Keep us posted on your decision
Cheers,
Kaushik
Any update? I live in Montreal, I'm wondering which Note would be best to get. I don't exactly know the differences other than LTE and not-LTE.

processor makes the biggest difference. snapdragon on LTE is slow and exynos is faster.

[Q] soft bricked samsung galaxy tab android 5.0.2

this made in Korea tab is being stuck at the android logo. i flash alot mostly smartphones so no noob answers please. the problem is my friend tried to update it via ota and it failed so its stuck at the android logo and the internet is not giving me any info about this tab made in korea. its says in the back that Samsung galaxy tab android 5.0.2 wifi+3g 256gb .. any help professionals ???
I suspect you own a Galaxy Player 5.0, a 5" galaxy device.
If so, go to the correct forum

You are in Galaxy Tab 7" forum

No, in fact, I am not sure.
Does it look like this in the picture?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Galaxy-Tab-5-0-and-4-0-pre-orders-started.63010.0.html
now that you mentioned 3G, maybe I am wrong. Does it have a SIM card slot?
Edit: never heard of a tab with 256GB space.
It must have an SSD disk inside?

it is identical
but this one does not have the samsung logo in the upper center and the front camera is in the lower right corner and the spacing between the 3 buttons are less .
and it does say that it has 256gb
i cant see a sim card slot but there is a slot called TF card and it has a hdmi slot too
and it is 5" ?
then this is not the right forum.
Now, I wonder about the 3G you mention? does it mean it is CDMA since it has no SIM slot?
(unless the writing at the back is wrong? the 3G and the 256GB thing ...)
if it is real, the specs is AMAZING.

i have tried many ways but no recovery mode or download mode
big help Needed :/
Can you post pics of this tab?
guys i dont know how but the tab just started and model number is to2a .. any forum threads for that one ??
it is not to2a
it is T02A
You can google for T02A tablet and see a lot of them, usually 7" , like the EKEN T02A
Edit: I think most of the info at the back of the tablet is fake.
It is likely, not Samsung, not 3G, and not 256GB
