I have an HTC raider from Rogers but I'm letting my girlfriend use it on her telus account. the raider is Sim unlocked, connects to the network but gets no data. now obviously with this phone being a gsm phone in a cdma network this isn't ideal but i believe it should have no issues using the hspa network. I put her Sim card into my unlocked att sgs2 and once i checked use data packets it connected to the hspa network just fine. can some one help me figure out what's going wrong here? thank you
Sounds like an apn setting problem or the raider does not have the correct radio frequency. What does telus use for hspa?
suppose to be 850 and 1900, i believe the raider and the s2 cover the same frequencies
Should work fine then. Have you messsed with the apn settings? Try tweakker from the market and see if it will fix it for you. Much easier than manually changing son settings.

I also have the Rogers Raider and I'm using it on Telus np. Telus is now also HSPA using the same frequencies as Rogers. You just don't have the correct APN settings. The only field that you need to fill in is the Name - Telus and APN - sp.telus.com.

Hi,
Have a big problem in that whenever I put a rom on my new Tilt 2 (which I am running on the new HSPA Bell network). My phone thinks it is roaming.
This is a real pain and I can't seem to find away around the problem.
Please can somebody think of something I might be missing?
Thanks!!

Are you sure its roaming and not mistaken the icon for something else? Also, if you are indeed roaming, which network is it? AFAIK, in ON, there's only 2 HSPA network Rogers/Fido or Bell/Telus. Who is your provider?

Bell have their own network here so I dont think that could be the problem. I also have a Omnia 2 and an Iphone 3Gs that dont have this problem.
Also just tried to manually join the Rogers network and as I thought it would not let me connect.
It is only on the tilt2 after I flashed a new ROM onto it.
Thanks for the idea though.
Anybody else?

EDIT: read this first and then try the following suggestion
Try setting in the TP2 band selection to only HSPA and see what happens. Since bell has no GSM, and if your phone is set to 2G mode only, it's falling back on Rogers/Fido, hence, the roaming.
Start>>Settings>>Personal>>Phone>> Goto "Band" tab>>Set the GSM/UMTS band to "GSM (1900+850) + UMTS(1900+850).
Play around with the Network type by switching to GSM only or CDMA or leave it on Auto.
FYI Rogers/Fido and Bell/Telus HSPA network runs on 850/1900 band.
Food for thought....
Also another thing to consider, considering that Bell/Telus HSPA network is new, I thought i read somewhere you have to get your device "added" to their new HSPA system. Right now, only new sign-up's gets on the new HSPA network. In other words, your phone is trying to get on Bell HSPA network, but Bell rejects it since it's not in their system, so your phone hop's onto next on the list, either roaming on Rogers HSPA or Rogers GSM.
P.S: You might find better response over here

Thanks for the detailed response.
I dont think I am on the Rogers network as I get the Bell operator logo appear and the phone stays on 3G (as I cant drop to Edge because Bell dont have it on their network).
Also checking my online billing from the past few days I would expect to see some nasty roaming charges which I dont have.
Finally I also have a Jailbroken Iphone and that works on the network fine without any problems.
Its just very weird!!
Just tried to connect to the Rogers network manually and it will not let me connect. So it must be something wierd on the device.
Oh, it does show Bell operator logo. I thought the phone was registering on another entwork other than Bell.
Hmm, since you are not incuring roaming charges, only thing I can think of, is the network list that comes within the ROM classifies Bell as CDMA and not updated to reflect it supports HSPA. So it reads the network id as Bell and network type as HSPA and thinks its roaming? I dunno, i could be wrong lol! ::shrugs::

Make sense to me
I guess I can live with it if I need to. Does anybody know of a way to force the device not to flag any messages about roaming?
At least that will make it less annoying.
Hello,
I have the Droid 3 with Verizon, unlocked, with verizon vodafone sim activated. I am currently in Canada, and am wondering why it will not connect to GSM/HSDPA towers.
If I go into the wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> Operator selection the phone will show me Rogers 2G, Rogers 3G, Bell, and Telus networks.
I also get this error for all three in the drop down menu, the name just changes:
No service
Selected network (CAN Rogers wireless inc. 3g) unavailable.
I have all the APN's entered for all three of those carriers, and can select them with an application named APN Manager, however none of those APN's show up in my wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> access point names. Both the vodafone APN's are unselected though.
I am looking to get on this GSM/HSDPA network, as when I am out in the country there is only 1x dial up internet on CDMA, and HSDPA available in the country.
If anyone can help me out, let me know!
Thanks much, in advance!
I have posted this exact same question at Howardforums. Here is the link to that thread:
/showthread.php/1736801-Q-Droid-3-GSM-Roaming
You will have to first go to howardforums website, then add the above part
Forgot to mention: I tried a Rogers and a Telus sim card and they both got calling service.
Not sure if Verizon has roaming agreement with any of the Canadian GSM networks. You can roam using CDMA here without any problem. I believe Telus is backing up Verizon here when it comes to CDMA.
If you want to use GSM you can put a SIM from any of the operators here (except AWS ones) and you will be fine since you have unlocked phone. Cheaper to use too, of course if using local SIM is an option for you. If you will be using local SIM you will need to define APNs or you won't get data connection. Head over Google for the settings for each of the operators here (Canada)

Thanks Leobg. I believe you are right that there is no roaming agreement for GSM, which makes sense. Verizon lady told me otherwise
This phone is going back though, as I was looking for some HSPA while in the country.
I was using Droid3 and Droid4 with Mexican SIMS, IUSACEL and TELCEL without problem. Now Im at Canada and Rogers SIM doesnt work on both phnes. I guess they are locked, can you describe me how to unlock where i do purchase unlocking codes?
reply
If you are on a contract with Verizon, you can ask them for unlock code,
Insert a sim card which it ain't accepting, enter the unlock code and its done.
Don't forget --- Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> GSM/UMTS
But I believe once unlocked, Verizon doesn't work on it.
It sounds like the SIM. Or try switching to CDMA. I think the Canadian carriers still have CDMA on their towers (used to a few years ago) and maybe that's the roaming the lady means.
I just purchased a Verizon-branded VS980, for use with Cityfone (on the Rogers network). I have no problems with voice calls, and my APN settings seem to have automatically populated from my SIM card and look correct. I believe this phone should be able to pick up LTE (700mhz) in my area, and it should support the hspa frequencies.
Anyway, I have rooted and installed cyanogenmod, but that had no effect. I've selected just LTE networks, just HSPA, or just GSM - it connects to HSPA and GSM, but I get data on neither. It shows GSM Disconnects: =======Data======= on the phone info screen
It was like this with the stock rom, and I have rooted and updated the ROM to Cyaonogenmod to see if that would change anything. It made no difference. I am using baseband 24A if that matters.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing?
Hello, I have gsm unlocked my sprint htc one and I'm now using Metro PCS network. Calls and Text work just fine but, when it comes to mobile data it runs super slow and I have no clue why. Any help appreciated.

Check your APN settings in Settings > Mobile Data > Access Point Name to see if they match these: http://unlockandrepair.com/metropcs-internet-mms-settings-for-android/
The other thing is that the Sprint HTC is primarily a CDMA phone with GSM cabability and the GSM bands may not get you fast data. For instance Sprint LTE band is 1900 whereas T-Mobile's LTE bands are 700, 1700/2100.

Yeah I'll give those APN settings a shot, I'm using T-Mobile's apn settings. Yeah I had read about the radio frequencies , when I first unlocked my phone to gsm no network providers other than Sprint would show up ... So I flashed a T-Mobile radio through twrp.

The bands are hard wired into the phones, the Radio you flashed just enhances the bands capabilities but can not add bands.
Oh I did not know that. Imma try out the settings.

i am having the same issues but with a different provider. i installed a custom rom now it shows 3G and H but it moves no faster than GPRS/EDGE. anyone?
Good evening everyone!
I have a XT1097 on WIND, on 5.0.1 and I'm trying to get Rogers/Fido LTE working. It supports all of the bands but when I select LTE Preferred it defaults to HSPA+, and forcing LTE gives me no service. My brother has an unlocked XT1097 from Telus, on 5.0.1 and the Fido SIM works fine for LTE!
Checking the system settings, there are some software differences: Screencast Link.
How would I go about getting this working on my WIND XT1097? Replace just the baseband? Replace everything? Do I throw the Telus software on it or go for Motorola's OEM software?
TL;DR: I have an XT1097 purchased from WIND CANADA that won't connect to 2100/2600MHz LTE on other networks (proper SIM and all), even though the device supports it. Did WIND purposefully gimp the phone with a different baseband, and how can I fix it?
You can't. Wind doesn't pay Bell of Rogers for access to the LTE bandwidth. No changing of settings will fix that, only having a Bell or Rogers sim.

I think you've misinterpreted my question. I have a phone purchased from WIND (unlocked), and a Fido SIM with a plan. The Fido SIM inside the phone connects me to HSPA+ but not LTE. My guess is that the baseband has been modified by WIND/whoever they get their devices from to lock out the LTE radio, preventing me from connecting to Rogers/Fido LTE with a Fido SIM inside my WIND phone.
My Q: What would be the easiest way to go about getting that fixed? My guess would be to replace the baseband with one that won't lock out the LTE at the software level.
If you unlock the bootloader you can try the Telus firmware but I am sure there are others using the Wind mobile phone on Telus/Bell/Rogers/Fido/Koodo etc and they all get LTE just fine.
Have you tried resetting the phone to default?

After backing everything up, a factory restore did it. I think I spent far too long overthinking this. Thanks for the info everyone!
