Can i use Odin to flash just the modem? And nothing else gets touched?

cwm does that easier, but if u prep the ,tar correctly ya should.

modems in odin are just .bin files. no need for tars

Right, was thinking of pda slot. Still easier to use cwm.

Yes but i flashed the latest i9000 modem jv9 to try and its not letting me flash to anything else. So i thought Odin might fix that without having to do a full wipe

I would like to know how to flash UGJL2 modem on top of I9000XXJPY, using Odin or Heimdall.
Thanks in advance

PDA thats a Rom not a modem and does not need pit either .
jje
-download an official rom from http://www.samfirmware.com/, extract
-start Odin.
-Select "phone" and fetch the modem.bin file.
-Only thing checked should be "Auto Reboot"
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug in USB
-hit Start
Let it reboot and thou shalt have signal
I followed these steps, but Odin seems to get stuck, progress bar reach the end but then nothing happens, I left the phone plugged in by 5 minutes, I don't think it should take that long, don't know what I am missing, thanks.
Does flashing a MODEM only with Odin wipe anything from the phone or will it leave everything intact?
Thanks

Changed the modem in custom rom from XXJPY to DXJPB (I live in Singapore) and everything is intact so didn't lose apps, data, or settings
Am also looking to flash my modem but a general question to the group which might be off-topic but do you guys see noticeable difference with different modems (battery life, performance, call quality)? Am in a similar position to szqnl and live in Singapore so thinking about doing the same thing and wondering how much of difference it will be.
What's the difference between Odin and Heimdall?

Heimdall has a big horn that can be heard everywhere and likes to lay around and party while looking out for Armageddon. Odin is more of a warrior and has a spear called Gungnir that was made by a team of master dwarf smiths and could strike any target in his field of view.

You have posted in wrong thread, for i9000.....
Download mode: good!
Flash with Odin or Heimdall only modem for your phone. Extract it from your last used stock rom, compress to .tar file (in Linux native, in Windows use 7-zip) and choose under PDA in Odin.
Alternatively, you can flash a whole stock image, but it will wipe all your data. Use Odin 3.04 or 3.07 and run it as administrator.

Flashing Reboot problem

Dear Guru's...
I've flashed the SGS, with JS3 from samfirmware & odin...
Everything looks fine until reboot...
The phone keeps vibrating and do have the following error in recovery mode : 'Update media Can't mount dbdata..."
Conclusion it doesn't boot at all...
Any clues on how to solve that ?
ManyMany Thanks!
can u get recovery mode working ? if so try wipe cache and factory reset.

Recovery is working, But i do have the error here : " Your storage is not prepared yet etc etc etc.."
And download mode also working...
Is there any rom that I can put ?
if you can get download mode working you can flash another ROM thru Odin, start of on a stock ROM then work your way back to a custom ROM if thats what u want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
I've got the same problem. Phone boots in both download and Recovery mode, but it cannot access internal SD since it was formatted in Ext4 by the lagfix (yes, I forgot to bring it back before using Odin).
Is there any way to solve this without sending the phone to Samsung?

Did that !
I'll try to do it with csc and modem file...
what is reset EFS Phone ?
I probably solved. I'm going to make a FULL flash to JPU with three files and PIT, then I'll upgrade to JS3, then will swith to a custom ROM.
This should work
sorry my mistake i assumed you already had 3 files and pit ... yeah that should work
dont tick EFS just the re partition and auto reboot f. reset time

you can flash with just one file. jus put the .tar file into the PDA part of odin. and thats all u need to do. no pit no csc no nothing just PDA
Reboot problems also
Hi! I was just wondering is this method going to work even I have custom rom (Darkys extreme edition 9.0.2) installed ?
Only asking because something went terribly wrong, and phone just keeps rebooting all the time. So with odin + I9000XXJPY (stock firmware) everything goes back to normal? and after that I can start all over to see what went wrong

Selling my Galaxy - how to get rid of custom rom?

Hi,
this might be a stupid question but i want to sell my galaxy s and i need to flash a stock rom. Clockwork recovery is installed (and should stay installed) - so how do I "re-stock" my galaxy?
Its a JPY-Version.
Thanks!
download JPY from www.samfirmware.com
boot into download mode
load JPY into ODIN (usually pda)
Hit start.
Do factory reset
JOB DONE !
Thanks. Is there a way without using ODIN? Maybe download an update.zip somewhere and flash it with clockwork?

But why You dont want to use Odin? It's Samsung's softeare so it is safe and when your phone will be bricked by offivial software you still have your guarantee.

Far as I know, no one has every made a update.zip file that contains only stock firmware files. They ones available always contain CF root or some other custom rooting kernel.
Also, why do you wish to keep CWM recovery? It's hardly stock in that case.

[Q] When odin one click doesnt work...

so my dilemma is as follows.. i was running continuum 4.1 on my captivate. i decided i wanted to try one of the new gingerbread roms, so my first step was to use odinoneclick 1.0 to get to complete stock and go from there. my luck, odin froze on me at sbl.bin... so i am soft bricked but i can use the vol up/down plug usb method to get to download mode. because i have only used one click before, and not a full odin like 1.7, i am having trouble figuring out exactly what i need, and what steps are necessary to safely get me back to stock using odin 1.7 so i can then load GB bootloaders and stop messing with BL's from now on.. so i suppose my main question is should i first flash eclair before trying to flash GB bootloaders/rom? my other question being, if so, what files do i need, and do i need to place a pit file and repartition? sorry if this is a noob question, i just dont want to screw it up any further and wasnt sure if specific steps must be taken when you are soft bricked.. thanks very much in advance!
No need to flash Eclair. Just flash the KF1 file in this post and then XCal's reorient for GB and you'll be good to go. Just don't boot into the OS after flashing XCal's kernel else you'll get bootloops since it was designed for I9000 based ROMs rather then I897. Just reboot back into recovery after flashign XCal's Kernel and then flash whatever GB ROM you want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126704
I personally prefer to flash my phone using Heimdall on my laptop running Kubuntu as it's generally more stable/successful, and it's easier to choose which files you want to flash if you only want to flash specific files (Like the bootloaders).
Also KH3 is out and it looks like it might have updated bootloaders, but it's not a full ROM from what I was able to grab. It's missing the param.lfs, dbdata.rfs, and the pit file. Also has an added SS_DL.dll which I'm not sure what the purpose of that file is since it's a Windows file...

There's a guide in the Dev section (stickied).. a little reading goes a long way!
Basically it's gonna look like this: Stock KK4 w/o BLs with Odin -> Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 (go in recovery to get root) -> Flash custom ROM as per their instructions -> Enjoy!
So yeah, little rundown but you have some reading to do to make sure you understand what you are doing.
Since u r runnin android 2.3.4 then u have gb bootloaders so u r good concerning that.
Simply Odin flash the .tar packaged KK4 Corn Kernel version 7.0A , afterwards reboot into the cwm recovery and install ur rom of choice that u should have copied to ur internal sdcard by now, per said rom's install instructions. (u will have to select to install it twice) Success.
--- Option is there, in the advanced cwm recovery menu, to gain Root access. But the big unrealized fact to a lot of users is that u actually don't need to have Root in order to flash a Developer's Rom. If u follow the method i just laid out.---
Enjoy ur Rom of choice !

Hold volume + & - together with power button until u see the at&t logo, then release and u should be in recovery.

I'd say to retry flashing Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 (don't forget the .pit)
If that doesn't work, flash stock KK4 without BLs, then reflash Corn kernel with Odin 1.85.

The .pit file.
When you use Odin 1.85, you need 2 files to flash a kernel: .tar and .pit
Your flash most likely didn't work cause you didn't have the .pit file (hence why I said a little reading goes a long way).
It can either be found in here (little search) or on the samsung website.
EDIT: here it is: http://www.droidevelopers.com/attac...752561-[download]-ops-pit-files-s1je4.pit.rar
If you don't know how to use Odin, there are plenty of videos on youtube. Please take time to really understand what you're doing otherwise you'll end up with a paperweight in your hands.

No, when using Odin 1.85, you put the .tar file in the PDA and the .pit file in the PIT.
Flashing Corn kernel will give you a cwm recovery and you won't need to root, just flash the ROM you want to as per their instructions.
