[Q] Help the noob - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am a noob,
I tried flashing my galaxy s i9000 using the cf root method. After adding the pda file in odin and starting odin my phone will only restart to the Galaxy s screen. I have retired reflashing but it's not working, please help.

if you can get to download mode, flash a new rom..

Ok so my phone basically works but I can't get my internet to work expect for wifi. I have tried going in *#*#197328640#*#* and making sure 850 was selected, I've unsucessfully tried installing 3 modems on odin and through the sd card any thoughts?

I use an app called absolute system to remove system apps but there are many others.

[Q] Bell Galaxy S problem post flash

I flashed darkys newest rom successfully, everything runs very smoothly, however, I now cannot connect to Bell's network. I have Bell selected under the wireless settings but my phone has no H symbol and no bars.
Any ideas? I've tried dialing *#2263# and have it set to automatic.
Have you checked if your APN is still set. Try flashing the JL2 modem, also you can try removing/reinserting SIM Card. If you need the bell APN send me a pm and ill send them to you by email.

Yes, pda.bell.ca is still stored under APN and checked. Taking out the sim card didn't do it.
Thanks for your input.
Install the JL2 modem (latest modem specifically for our phones). You should be able to find it easily with a quick search. All you need is the modem file. Flash it using ODIN. DO NOT repartition or include a PIT file.
I can't seem to find the specific file through searching, would you be able to direct me to it?
Thank you very much!
Just look in the gt-9000m running jpy in the general sevtion and search in the thread thats how i found it

Thanks guys, the phone is working again. I can't believe how much smoother it works with a custom ROM.

[Q] 3g is not working

Month àgo my 3g used to be working, sudenly my 3g change to 2g.
I checked my settings and everything was fine.
I putt my sim in another phone and the 3g worked, so its not a sim problem.
My apn setting are good.
I tried everything and nothing solved the problem.
What can it be?
Check Settings - Wireless and Network - Mobile Networks - Network mode, it should NOT be GSM only. Try setting it to WCDMA only.
.
I already tried it. If i putt it on wcdma only i dont get any connection.
Backup data and then factory reset .
jje
How do i do factory reset?
Backup your data and apps using a program like Titanium Backup, then go to Clockwork Recovery and select Factory Reset/Wipe (or something similar).
I did wipe and change my rom few times and its doesnt work.
Dont know what rom you are using but i would try installing stock froyo via Odin .

Have you tried flashing a new modem at all???
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Not yet. I dont know what kind of modem to flash.
If its your standard Galaxy S I9000 you should be able to flash any of the standard modems. I use JPY because it seems to have the best signal and battery life. If you search the forums a little you should find out how. Darkyys ROM uses it as standard

I have the same problem and I just repartitioned in Odin to JS7 and it still won't automatically go to 3G/HSDPA, I have to force it either through setting it to WCDMA only and then back to auto or through SGStools by setting it to WCDMA 1900 only and then add the others in combination bands. All of the APN settings are correct, my IMEI is still the same, my HSPA revision is set, phone information states WCDMA preferred, I've factory reset, cleared cache, cleared Dalvik cache, and as I mentioned earlier, flashed with repartition, and after all of that... I still have to force HSDPA access.

Sounds like you have lost your IMEI.
Go to 'Settings > About Phone > Status' and check your IMEI.
If there is no value there (will be a load of numbers) then your EFS has become corrupt and you will not be able to make or receive calls.
Should be an easy fix as you surely backed up your EFS, right? Surely you did as all ROMs state that you should do this...
If on the off chance you did not do this, you will need to flash a stock GB rom on using Odin. When I say flash with Odin, I mean properly too, one with individual PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC.
Doing this should get you an IMEI back. If of course you check and do have an IMEI, this is not the issue and you should just ignore me.

Before we go any further down that route, check out this program first, you might be able to recover your corrupt EFS and even if not, when you do get this sorted, you can use the program to make a backup in case this happens again.
Failing that, download and check that .zip as some only have the one file format, the '.tar.md5' and some the 3 files. Now I can't be sure that flashing the '.tar.md5' won't fix the issue (never has the issue myself and have an EFS backup) so try flashing it and if it doesn't fix the issue, try downloading some of the other zips to see if they have the 3 files. The instuctions for flashing are the page you got that link from (here).
Also feel free to be my first 'Thanks'.

ROMs for SPH-P100 without Data Plan

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this question yet: Does it make a difference which JB ROM I flash on a SPH-P100 on which I am only using wifi? I have been using CM10 Nightlies, which are fine, but they do incorrectly identify the phone as Verizon. Basically, I'm interested in trying out some of the other ROMs.
Thanks!
if you aren't using data it won't matter. you won't be able to use the data anyway if your esn isn't registered to their network.
Just to be absolutely sure, would it make a difference if it's a GSM ROM?

I was replying to the person who want to flash the GSM ROM into his CDMA device.
I personally have never encountered anyone who has done that.
Are you saying you accidentally flashed a GSM rom into your CDMA?
As long as you can still go to download mode, you should try to flash a stock CDMA rom that has a pit file as well, using Odin repartition or use heimdall.

Well I Flashed the p1c (CDMA) CM10 nightly. while I'm connecting to my WiFi it shows verizon wireless on the status bar. and if I go to the status it shows Network (Verizon Wireless) ,signal strenght (akward -4dBm), Mobile Network type (CDMA - EvDo rev. A:6, Service state (In Service), Mobile Network state (Disconnected) I turn off the WiFi and it stays in Connecting for 10-15 secs and goes back to Disconnected.
I tried heimdall and I was able to put the zimage and recovery. when I add the pit file it grays out, so I tried some of the One Click restock and it allowed me to go back to my NAND backups on CM9 but it just doesnt want to connect.
any other suggestions??
THANKS A LOT for all your help!!!!
I didnt I figured out they sold them to me with free data plan for 6months then thats when it stopped...

Highly Challenging Network Issue

I've had this samsung galaxy ace s5830i (my first android) for 4 of the most frustrating months now.
The problem first started with the phone being stuck on EDGE regardless of signal strength. I tried flashing it with new roms but had zero success. I tried manipulating the menu under *#197328640# but that led to a dead end as well. Every time I tried to select WCDMA only, the network bar changes to a "circle and cross" type of thing. I tried to dial *#7465625# to check for network locks but everything reads off i.e. no locks of any kind. Finally, I tried to select a new radio band by dialing *#4636# but that operation crashes a "com.android.phone" everytime.
So in summation, service mode changes don't help and flashing the rom doesn't help.
Recently, I to switched one of the strongest networks available (other than the one I'm on) but the phone is stuck on "emergency calls only" mode. When I try a manual network search and select the network to which the SIM card belongs, I get and error telling me that the SIM card can't register onto the network.
I have used these SIM cards on nokia phones and other samsung galaxy ace devices and have experienced none of the problems listed above, even in remote areas. The support guys of my network say nothing is wrong with my account.
So there you have it. Is there anything left that I can try?
Flash the latest firmware available for your region in Odin. Because this will wipe and reinstall your modem and other data as well as your ROM. If that doesn't do it then it must be a hardware problem, isn't it under warranty?
By the way just to rule this out, check you haven't lost your IMEI number with *#06# as this can also cause network access issues.

The IMEI ok. What section of the operating system controls the com.android.phone process or the phone's ability to select or switch bands? In my lay man understanding, this is where the issue lies and every time I flash, this region remains unchanged
Try changing manually CSC of the ROM.That's the most reasonable thing that I can thing of right now...if it don't work after changing it go to samsung service..

If you mean the *#272*IMEI# trick, then I already tried that and samsung has no presence in my country so no service centre to speak of
I have your exact same problem .
and I've been looking for a solution since last week , i'm starting to think its a hardware problem.
I "worked around" it by flashing the phone with a rom that locked the device and then reflashing it with the original rom. At least now it picks network but the other problems haven't left i.e. still no 3G and I can't edit any menu under service mode et al.
On another note, if you have the time, try flashing with different modems... maybe a miracle will happen
There seems to be something wrong with basebands of latest stock roms.Try switching aeroplane mode on and then off.I regularly lose signal..and get stuck without signal until I reboot.

Make sure of your phone model (Under the battery) because there is GT-S5830M GT-S5830C and GT-S5830I.
In my case, I have GT-S5830M and the only modem that worked for me is PHONE_S5830CVJKL4.tar.md5.
Maybea changing the modem will fix your network problem.

You can use a file called Odinatrix (found somewhere here on xda) to split single firmware files into pda, modem and csc. I, on the other hand, still get a circle and cross whenever I set the device to wcdma only. The interesting thing is that setting it on auto picks up 3g but very rarely (twice in many months) and for a short time (like 3 minutes). still looking for answers
