Having forced my phone to take JPY from Keis, using the registry hack, occasionally after turning off my phone, on the next restart, the phone vibrates at various points, with warnings that several different apps have had problems and have to close, and after this some apps just wont run when started manually either. If I remove the apps and reinstall, I still get the same problem. The only way I can get back to normality is to go into recovery and restore to factory settings and start my install again. Does anyone know why this is happening? My phone is rooted. I have tried fix permissions from Rom manager, but this has not helped. Its happened about 3 times now, Most times restarting has been fine.
I would like to try and install clock work mod so that I can at least backup, so if this happens again, I'm covered for the majority of the reinstall, but The Rom manager Clockwork recovery does not install on this rom ( so I believe, it does not appear anyway)
Does any one know if I am OK to install the Clockwork mod from here, that has been linked to in some of the custom rom threads, and if not, how can I get clockwork on my phone? If I do install clockwork, does this mean I can no longer install new roms with Keis?

I wasn't sure if to put this thread in the general section or development for a best response. Sorry If I have picked the wrong area, but thought it was people from the Dev section that would more understand what I need to do
Thanks
you have kinda almost the same problem as this guy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937938 (his reinstalling helped though)
yeah thanks, doesnt quite sound the same, I never got a black screen. Always boots, but reports various apps have problems and closes them down.
Well still I do think something is not right with the either JPY or the HW. Cuz it started few days/weeks ago. I was for 2 months a happy user. Then it was sudden with those FC... Factory Reset etc
Something about a conspiracy theory:
I kinda suspect that there was either a google apps update or samsung one, the kind that you dont see , like when it updates the market. And it messed something up .
Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to the modding of Android phones (my previous phone was a TYTN II) and I'm having some problems restoring my backups via Clockwork mod (which is a bit of a pain in the ass for me, as I think you understand).
Ive tried to flash my phone and stuff, but I can't download apps from market/start google talk (I know this is related to eachother) when I have a mdc rom installed. This is not really the problem I'm asking a solution for, but the real problem is, that I can't go back to my old rom and stuff. I have rooted my phone, installed CWM, made a backup, but somehow it keeps freezing at the loading screen of the phone whenever I have restored a backup and reboot the phone.
Atm I have resetted my phone with NVFlash, I have not yet innstalled anything but I still have a backup which I'd like to restore. This is my situation:
LG-P990: Android 2.2.2, Baseband 1035.21_20110315 (I updated this with Paul's update), Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build: FRG83G, LGE version: v10b.
Anyone has an idea what I'm doing wrong? Did I miss a step in the process? Please help me out!
I'm no expert, so you should probably wait for one of them, but I had a similar problem and it's important to do a wipe before installing the ROM. (There's two wipe options, run them both)

please check if the DATE in your settings is correct. the rom I had previously installed was set to MAY and this made it impossible to use gtalk and download roms.
yeah sounds silly, but worth checking
ah well since you have reset already. but maybe you get back in the same situation at one time.
Thanks for the quick replies.
@Marco_ch: I already tried the date problem, literally went thru 100 of pages to find out what the issue was with the gtalk, but nothing helped, so I'm guessing I made a mistake with the rooting or something...
I already reset, but this is the third time I've reset, I've already tried flashing my device 3 times and each time I end up not being able download apps.
@Jakkelomme: As far as I know there is only 1 wipe option? Reset factory settings? I always do that before I install a rom yes.
well I had the same problem (gtalk, market) but I gave it another shot with this:
http://romkitchen.org/lg/?s=generator
its running brilliantly on my device. have you tried that one yet?
Tried it a few days ago, when it was anotehr version, might try it again now, thanks. Which options do you suggest (I'm not that much of an expert )
Edit: Though i wish someone had a solution for me not being able to restore via CWM!
oh you dont want suggestions from me - I have that device for a couple of days only and dont even know how to properly make a backup
but I chose the following:
EXT 4
Pauls Kernel
Left out all the LG Stuff as I find it kinda useless and laggy
good luck!

Did everything you asked, installed new version of Romkitchen with the stuff you suggested... Still doesnt download appss. Still stuck at "Starting download...". Help, anyone?
Nevermind guys, I fixed it. Turned out the problem WAS with date & time. My provider made the date 12/05/'11 instead of 12/04/'11. It was why I couldnt download from the market. Thank you all for helping out anyway
I have an international unrooted Galaxy Note. During Gingerbread it was stable. Since the ICS update it is very unstable. Battery drain. Sometimes no deep sleep. Self reboots. App crashes.
I had not performed a factory resets before upgrading.
I read in forums that those steps could help
a) getting the battery out for 10 seconds
b) removing unnecessary apps (that might be a problem)
c) moving all apps to internal memory
This actually did help. The Note was more stable. Hardly any self reboots anymore. Mostly it did deep sleep.
Yesterday I did install Android 4.0.4 and hoped that the problem would be gone forever.
BUT – the self restart problem with my Galaxy Note under Android 4.0.4 is worse than ever. I had about hourly self restarts yesterday. I will test again today but I am very unsatisfied.
I am coming from an iPhone and still like the form factor of the Galaxy Note. I also like that you can customize so much. Most Apps that I want to use are available for Android. Some Apps are even better. Some UI details are definitely better.
But the instability of Android on my Note is driving me crazy. This is not acceptable. A real turn off for anybody used the stability that iOS provides.
Besides my rant. Does anybody have the same problems? What are solutions.
I am reluctant to perform a factory reset. I am not aware how to backup Apps, screen layout and picture data. Unhappy ex iOS now Android user.

It doesn't sound like normal behaviour, You can have a search through the forum here and a few people have had similar issues, some caused by apps / launchers (APEX & auto Wi-Fi from memory)..
In any case, As a test I would suggest a complete clean install, these are steps I just completed last night as I wanted a fresh system.
Basically;
- Backup data from Internal and External SD - Connect to your PC and just drag and drop the folders from internal and External SD to your PC
- Go back to GB using PC ODIN - Once on GB you are safe from the Brickbug..
- Wipe and Factory Reset (ONLY WHEN ON GB!!
- Format Internal and External SD cards through settings ONLY WHEN ON GB!!
- Flash 4.0.4 / ROM of choice...
WARNING: NEVER WIPE / FACTORY RESET / FORMAT ON ANY ICS STOCK KERNEL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793665
EDIT: - Or return the device to the SSC if you have warranty..

Flash gingerbread rom in pc odin
Now your in gingerbread rom. Go to CWM recovery, do the wiping data, cache and dalvik(do not reboot yet)after these take out your battery for one minute, put the battery back, then directly go to download mode and flash ics rom for clean install. It will solve your battery problem and fc.
Thanks for all you tips. I am getting shivers when I think about having to root …*but, I just uninstalled AutoWIFI. Thinking about, it this could very well be the problem. I also have ADW EX Launcher running. This will be the next App to remove. I will try this first and see how it behaves. gfisch

Sorry for that CWM recovery, just use stock recovery of gingerbread rom its ok, wipe data and cache. No need to root.
Apps on sd card cause reboots
Hello there, I was having the exact same problems as you. Random reboots sometimes 1 - 3 times a day. I found that the solution to my problem lies in the move apps to sd functionality of android. It is an actual issue with android (#25563). The os keeps rebooting when apps are installed on the sd card. I discovered this here: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25563
Since moving all of my apps to internal memory the problem has disappeared, my battery is flat lining when idle (1 -2% drain every 2 hours) my phone is also much more responsive.
You may want to check that there are no apps installed on your sd card (the internal sd called usb storage)
EDIT: AutoWIFI could also cause the reboot problems. I had the same issue with Juice Defender causing reboots.
Im also running 4.0.4 ics and i have had restarts from being on GB. It was very bad in the start but soon as i updated to the ics one before this it got abit worst. Now im on 4.4 it still happends. now it happenss when im in apps mostly . wot can i do???

I think you ought to do a clean install (flash) an ICS rom of your own choice. By that, I mean for you to do wipe/factory reset, clear cache and Dalvik cache. The important thing here is to do it correctly.
To flash a rom, you need to be in CWM mode. The next thing to do is to flash Abyss and then reboot recovery! After this you are good to flash any ICS rom.
YOU MUST ONLY DO THE WIPE AFTER YOU HAVE REBOOTED THE RECOVERY!
There is no need to mess around with moving apps to external sd card, not at this stage anyway. Hopefully, with the clean system, your problem would go away.
Hope this would offer some help.
help with apps
I'm having some issues about some apps of instant messaging on my galaxy N7000. the apps i'm talking about are whatsapp kakao talk messenger viber and chatOn. after downloading and configuring the apps theybseems to work but in a while they are automatically removed from the phone and on the status bar the following message is displayed " whats app has been removed" even if i don't uninstall it. it happens all the times. i tried to contatt the apps developer, the google play customer service and samsung customer service but noone give me an answer. i took some logs about the installing and uninstalling process of the apps and i wanna know if someone could read that for me instead of finding a solution. i can't attach any file yet but i can send it by mail to those who wants to.leave his email address even in a pm. thank you for anyone can help. sorry in advanced if this is not the right place to edit this thread
I opened another thread about this issues but i suppose this could be a more appropriate section.
Hope i'm not messing aroud

Thanx for The reply. I've now been rooted but still on stock rom ics 4.0.4 but I still get those hangs time to time when I'm doing to many thins at once. Until I find a rom that's stable ill stay on stock lol the threads about peoples phones seems like a nightmare.
Can your steps still be done? Newbie so I don't understand hardly anything. I'm on speedmod kernal.
Cheers

Ok, I'm sort of a year late, but recently, I've been having the same issue as well. S oi've got a safe kernel, and wiped/factory reset the pone.
now I lost all my apps, and th eproblem still exists. Any chance its a hardware problem?
Install another Kernel !!
I suggest you to install a new kernel, Franco.kernel or HydraCore Kernel
Sincerely, Marwanpro
Hi there fellow time bomb owners!
Let me start out........... Ive had my note for many months now. Ive flashed many GB and ICS roms, both TW and AOSP.
Ive always been very careful with the brick bug issue and always flashed every rom via the OP's method to the letter.
I finally settled with Kingdroid. After running it for nearly 2 months without ever having a random reboot/FC or any issues at all it started to misbehave, crashing, freezing and somtimes making me resort to battery pulls!
This all culminated last night, when after installing an app, I tried to open the said app and the phone froze on me. I long pressed the power button to reboot and then got stuck in a bootloop. In all my months with my Note ive never had a bootloop. I could still get into recovery and download so I thought no big deal.
I tried to wipe the cache and davlik cache to see if there was any nasties in that causing the bootloop. They both wiped fine but when I rebooted the loop was still there. Still Not a problem I thought, I will just have to reflash. Pain in the ass I know, but at least Im not bricked. So I placed abyss kernel and kingdroid onto my SD booted into recovery and went to flash Abyss. All went well so went to reboot recovery and........Boom in some kind of elongated (graphically) version on the same recovery I had before? Not abyss? Ok, it must not have taken properly, flash it again, as soon as I went to move through the recovery menus the recovery restarted, not rebooted, just restarted? It did this everytime I tried to move in the menus? I though thats very odd indeed? then all on its own it started to restart? Then I worried, could this be damage to my partitions or emmc in general? Never done any wiping on unsafe kernels, surely it cant be?
So I resorted to Odin and the factory firmware I keep for warranty purposes. Plugged everything in and set it running. The phone was recognized, Md5 checked then.................Couldnt open COM port to device? S**T, F**K. I must be bricked now I thought. So as all good software people do, I unplugged everything rebooted my computer and tried again. It worked this time around!? I was a little nervous going through the FACTORYFS bit but it took, pass! Yes! Booted into stock recovery did the full wipe and now all is well with my note, all be it on stock nastiness.
I apologize for the lengthy post but I think its important to share potentially dangerous behaviour in depth with the note community. Many people may have had a panic and jumped straight on the Brickbug bandwagon (as I nearly did).
So after all that I would like to know if someone far more intelligent than me could give a possible cause? Not only out of curiosity but so that people (and me!) could avoid this worrying behaviour. And also how or if you can check your EMMC for bad blocks without Root and the emmc checker app?
If you read all this, well done! and thankyou for looking,

Mate, feel for the brown pants time you've ordealed, glad you got out of it. I'm fairly certain, although no dev, that there is an incremental damage obtained via certain kernels, be it wipes or even large file transfers. There's an app that can judge if any sectors are past repair...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check
So at least you know if it's an emmc issue. Let me know.

Cheers for the link.
Do you know of a way that I can check for bad sectors without that app? It needs root and I dont really want to flash/root anything until I can (if possible) determin whether or not Im damaged.
The only reason I ask is that now is the phone is primed ready to go back to samsung if so.
No counter or triangle or reminants of root.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
accessing the internal NAND flash memory of your phone requires root privileges. Without Root, The System would simply deny you poking and probing on the internal storage of your phone.
That is why it is important to Root.
On the lighter side. You can actually Root your phone.. use that app to know if your phone has bad sectors and once you've done knowing it... you can simply UNROOT your device.
In that way, Samsung would never know the how's and wherefore's if you have tinkered your device or not.
Simple as that.
Ok. I rooted with a older version of GB.
Checked the NAND and everything says its ok. So I put it back to the latest GB uk firmware, updated via KIES to latest ICS and then rooted with the super su.zip and the full root busybox.zip from Dr Keatens post.
So im now running the latest stock firmware with full root. Can I install a rom from where Im at now? With stock recovery with full root? Or do I need to flash a kernel like abyss first to get the red pill recovery?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Things may have changed but I think general guidance is to flash from rooted gb kernel like abyss or stock. Certainly for AOSP roms like cm9 variants or cm10 that's the case.

Firstly, Hello i'm new o/
Listened to the noob video (wow) and couldn't find a similar thread after about 45mins so i'm gonna try my luck, sorry if a similar one exists but i really can't find one :I
Phone: GT-N7000
Rooted about 7-8 months ago with a ICS rom called Franco Kernal or something along those lines.
I just tried changing a "theme" through Rom Toolbox Pro, The "theme" was actually a background change for the pull down status bar at the top, it asked me to backup my theme settings in-case of any problems which i did, as soon as i clicked install i got about 10 different pop-ups saying X.program stopped working, these where usually things like "feb has stopped working" and something in German, and another in what looked to be some sort of middle eastern text.
The phone then froze for about 10mins, so i restarted it, but it just played the samsung boot gif and stopped there, so i restarted a few more times, then tried restoring a backup i made on 8th Feb, but the backup said it was "mismatched"?
So i then tried a factory reset, and again it just plays the boot gif and freezes there.
I do have Odin installed, and i did install clockwork mod recovery, but when i navigate through the root menu's to clockwork's folder i can't find a recovery (i'm not 100% that i made a correct backup with it, i know i made one with something called Titanium Backup about 5mins before i all this happened though, i'm not sure if that backup is still there because of the reset, or if it still exists on the SD card or something).
I haven't a clue what to do. I can't quite remember how i rooted the phone to begin with, i think i'm right in thinking i just installed Odin on my laptop/phone and used that to do it? If so, would rooting the phone again with another kernal fix it? I hope so cos i don't have the money for a new phone at the minute lol
Many thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if i'm repeating another thread, also sorry for being a noob and doing this in the first place
-Leigh
The good things you already have Titanium backup, and the backup is stored in SD card, second is you have custom kernel but I'm not sure if it is a save kernel...First read about "Emmc Brickbug on ICS"...If you now how to flash with PC Odin, you problem will solve easier..
