I love my new Droid 3 except for two things. One is something almost everyone hates about it: the locked bootloader. I hope one day it will be removed just like the Photon's and Atrix'. The other thing I hate about it is that I can't fully unlock it , (SIM unlock) since the codes I've retrieved from sellers don't seem to work.
Therefore I resorted to the Turbo SIM option. The problem with this is that Turbo SIM does have its own issues: phone application FCs when choosing to call a contact out of the agenda, will FC when editing, viewing or editing contact and will also make the phone believe it's roaming. The phone may also take its time to show sms and hasn't yet displayed a single lost call.
This is a tough pill to swallow for me coming from the G2; a device which people can simply "subsidy unlock" (SIM unlock) without the need for codes or any further complication.
My question is, were the bootloader unlocked, would it be possible to have the same option (subsidy unlock) on our Droid 3? Something like this:

(Wildifire recovery mode)
I am seriously considering going back to my G2 just because I can't trust my Droid 3 working as a reliable daily phone using TurboSIM.
Thank you everyone!
Sounds like what Verizon did with the Droid2Global. I experienced the same thing (unlock codes wouldnt carrier unlock the device). After researching it seemed that Verizon put their own carrier unlock code on the device. I was told that I could simply call Verizon and request the unlock code from them (but they would require that your account has been in good standing for at least 90 days) . This was not an option for me, as I live in Canada, so I had to sell the phone.
I wonder if your Droid 3 is in the same boat? Is your Droid 3 a Verizon device?
as for the bootloader unlock, I believe that is separate from the carrier unlock (if i am wrong, someone please correct me).
good luck!!

Yes I bought a Verizon Droid 3. I know bootloader unlock is completely different from carrier/subsidy unlock. I just mean to ask if it would be possible to software unlock the Droid 3 like other devices (G2) and whether this is dependent on the bootloader being unlocked.
Thanks for the input and yes, I think I might have to sell mine as well

Looks like we might not get official ICS. Let's go CM9!
Further evidence that the D3 was released so they could use Droid 4(g)... so retarded. Thanks for the shaft, moto.

Because it is a list of current phones that will be upgraded. The D3 is a current phone that is not listed, which means it will most likely not be getting an upgrade. However, no one knows for sure
I'm not sure it indicates anything. The D3 isn't listed in the list below either where all of the other phones are.

This was my thought.. that top banner of text seems as more of a teaser for those who just purchased their bionic and razr to silence the people worried if their recently purchased phone is going to receive android 4.0.
The Droid 3 isn't listed on the page at all and obviously it exists.. so I don't think that upgrade page means a thing. I would assume those would just be the first to get it then other phones that are capable would have 4.0 implemented. Since the D3 is so similar, I doubt the bionic will receive 4.0 without the D3 being considered..
http://phandroid.com/2011/10/24/mot...-release-beginning-with-razr-bionic-and-xoom/
A few sites(check google) say that these lists are just motorola confirming which phones will get ics over the next few weels starting with the razr, bionic and xoom.

Has anyone noticed that only verizon moto phones are listed? That cannot be a complete list, what about the photon? The atrix 2? I highly doubt this is a complete list of devices that can be upgraded. This is just for hype, companies like to do this so people buy their phones for the upgrade. If this is the complete list, our beloved Droid 3 has booted ICS already so there is no need to worry.
I'm probably going to thoroughly ***** a verizon rep out. I'm not big on ICS to be honest but the fact that they dropped this, then like 10 other phones in the few months following is terrible business practicing. My phone shouldn't be obsolete in 2 weeks.
I may just drop Verizon and goto Sprint while it's still got unlimited data. Tho that would probably leave me with $600 in termination fees. Good thing I got credit growing from things bigger than Verizon?
Page obviously needs an update on all the new phones, looks like it's 6+ months out of date so it has no real relevant information for new phones at all.
We will more then likely get ICS.
-smc
That's technology. You don't wanna be outdated get an iPhone. With the overclocks, custom ROMs, Hash working on ICS, and everything, why wouldn't our phone keep up? I mean it's got the hardware to be current for a while minus 4G.
Haven't seen anyone mentioning it yet, so I've decided to post it here.

The DROID 4 is upon us whether we are ready for it or not. The first pictures of it popped up a few weeks ago followed by signs pointing to it arriving on December 8. We also got confirmation that training has started for some Verizon shops, along with this set of official specs. Who knew we would see it so soon?
The D4 will have a 4″ screen (LCD or AMOLED?), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, DROID RAZR styling, 5-row slideout keyboard, 4G LTE, front camera for video chatting and an 8MP rear camera. This could be the DROID that many of you have been waiting for. The Stratosphere had LTE and a keyboard, but this phone has top of the line specs to go with them.
On a related note, thoughts on the tool needed to remove the back cover? It doesn’t have a removable battery, but the cover can be removed using that circular tool pictured above, so that you can insert a SIM and SD card.

This is what the droid 3 should have been in the first place...Instead of opting for one standout phone though, Motorola decided to make 2 behind the curve phones in the time span of two months. They should give Droid 3 owners some kind of upgrade deal or something, that's just crazy.
edit: Did they get rid of the lip? If so, now I'm really upset, I always hated that lip at the bottom.
I strongly agree with you. The Droid 4 seems like the phone I've been waiting for the whole time. I'm quite sure Moto released the D3 with less superior hardware solely as a marketing strategy.
Too bad the battery's no longer swappable (with the exception of removing some additional covers)
I just got the droid 3 after tons of problems with the D2G. I must say, for not having paid for the phone, I'd be willing to pay for this D4. BUT, not being able to install an extended battery is a major dis. Sure the 1785mAh that this has is bigger then the 1500 the we have...but its still smaller than the 1950 the extended has. Who care how fast your phone is if its dead...

Its all nexus for me. Motorola has disapointed me very much . People sign the patition pn the thread abouve this one.

You can only do that for 16gb but not 32 as of now
I know MotoMaker goes live for Verizon on Friday. Maybe T-Mobile sometime soon.
the pure version is the tmobile. it sounds like they are still out of the 32g. try a white face with 32gb option. and then go back to black. that was working a few days ago. to answer the question... there was no exclusive for at&t at all. the tmo/pure edition was available from the start and verizon is always the last to get their version in, it is cdma.
A little of topic but I wanted to pick up a screen protector today and Verizon said the phone doesn't exist, AT&T (my service provider) said they don't carry it. Best Buy was like "what?" and Radio Shack said they only have accessories for newer phones. I don't think there's an exclusion on it.

You could get 32 last week. They are sold out for now... must be too popular. As with the first-gen X, there is no T-mo specific model, jsust unlocked (why would you want anything else?). I'm holding out a few weeks - hopefully news of the new Nexus will give me another option.
still no luck as of today, I guess it's just out of stock for now.
Stopped by AT&T store today to check out the actual phone and they said they are not getting it in yet either. Wonder how long this thing get hold off from the market
The Verizon model goes on sale at motomaker tomorrow, so go hog wild!

As of today you can now order the Moto X (2014) Pure edition with 32Gb of storage.

It seems a bunch of Tasker commands are not working in Lollipop and I really need to get them working on a Nexus 6. It's a phone for a blind person and I need to be able do things like allow them to touch the screen anywhere to answer, wave their hand over the phone to answer, answer by voice command, etc... but that seems impossible on 5.0+

nexus 6 was released with lollipop. so, officially, no. i know for a fact that the nexus 6 was tested with kitkat, but those builds havent gotten out(code i mean).
Dang. Not good news. Is the only other phone that can use "Ok Google" with screen turned off and the phone not charging the Moto X?
I'm sure there are pre-5.0 roms for the Moto X so I might have to get rid of the Nexus and go that route. I hope the Verizon version isn't all locked down like most VZW phones.

Droid Turbo (verizon) or Moto Maxx (south america) are 4.4 devices, essentially the same as Nexus 6, just 0.8 inches smaller.

With an entirely different board, kernel and drivers. It is not going to be as simple as flashing a rom from them if the idea comes to mind.

Flashing stuff for Nexus 6 won't do any good if the intention is to stick with 4.4.
Also, just because the board is physically a different shape does not mean that it is *WIRED* particularly differently. It is mostly EXACTLY the same.
I bought a Moto X on release day and have drifted astray from Android for most of 2014 and 2015.
I have been hunting for a sealed Rogers Moto X 2013 on Kijiji for 6 months and FINALLY scored one! This is my alltime favorite phone.
It's on release firmware 4.2.2. I'm unlocking the bootloader as we speak but which firmware should I leave it on? I know you can't downgrade.
This is a release day phone, pretty sure. The battery was so malnurished I had to charge it for 30 minutes on 2A charger for it to boot up lol.

Hmmm i see you got lucky lol :good: that is a really nice sealed phone... Leave it to the 4.4.4 firmware as all of the custom roms etc require the 30.B7 bootloader and the most stable bootloader is 30.B7 also if you leave it to 4.4.4 you can take the new 5.1 OTA easily. So I see your phone is from Rogers Canada. If you have unlocked the bootloader properly Go ahead and download http://www.filefactory.com/file/5z0...4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_59_cid14_CFC_1FF.xml.zip and flash through RSD LITE. IF you dont know how to flash through Rsd lite refer to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515 Good luck :good:
No, no, I know how to do all these things lol. I was tweaking my first Moto X on here for six months or so.
I do appreciate the tips and advice however! I will leave it on stock 4.4.4 in anticipation for 5.1 as you said.
Bootloader has been successfully unlocked but I am having issues with sim unlock at cellunlocker.net. They told me my order is complete and sent me an unlock code that says "serial number invalid". I have used their services to unlock two other Moto X that were build the same month as this one. Phone is not blacklisted. I told them if it's not resolved by 6PM EST I am opening a PayPal dispute and going with another unlock service as if this phone is not unlocked by tomorrow, I will lose my job (doing afterhours oncall). Nothing personal.

i feel you man got in a similar trouble some days ago.. I had the exact phone a Black colour XT1058 from rogers canada and just like you i ordered the sim unlock code... and even after 10,12 days i didn't got my code.. After a month the sim unlocking site refunded my payment saying that the moto x's from Rogers Canada XT1058 cant be sim-unlocked.. Because rogers have stopped giving away sim codes... So i suggest you to consider a pre-plan in case you dont get the sim code like me also.. Good luck...
