[Q] MintBerry 1.12.25 SD-CARD problems - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed MIUI MintBerry and am loving it, but not as much as I like. I've got an 8Gb Galaxy S with an extra 16Gb SD-card. The card is recognised, I can browse to it using Astro. But MIUI music won't pick up the MP3's on this card.
I did get WinAmp to see them, but playing them seems to be on-and-off. Mostly off. I even reflashed the whole phone with first placing a lower bootloader on it (Froyo) and flashing it again. What can I do to get my MP3's playing again...

Why do you go back to Froyo when Gingerbread Bootloaders are working fine? Almost everyone using CM7, ICS or MIUI are on GB Bootloaders. Better not mess with them because they could brick your phone permanantly.
Have you tried formatting the sd card and adding music again?

I always thought CM7 required the froyo bootloader, I think I've even read somehwere that this was causing them SD-problems (with the GB-bootloader). So why not try it, I'm willing to try everything (except format, see below).

The problem is not being on seeing the SD, I can see my card, it's under /sdcard/external_sd. For now I seem to have got WinAmp working again. But the MIUI player still doesn't see any songs, that's a shame, now my lockscreen works with the buttons, but I don't see any info about the song. So for now no new ROM needed, but I like to get the MIUI player working again.

A really late kick, but I found the problem. It seems that MIUI player needs the directory's with the music added in the configuration. Very confusing compared to the normal player of Android, since I had my music spread over several maps this wasn't really helpful.
Put everything in one big map and added that and now enjoying the music again !!!

[Q] All music apps force closing, HELP!

For whatever reason all 3 of the music applications I have force close when I try to play any sound file. The stock app wouldn't work, I tried the MIUI player, and the Honeycomb player. What could be the problem?
Running Cognition v3.04 with Firebird Kernal 2.05
im having issues where media scanner wont detect my stuff and when i try to play music using astro it fc's astro, and video player fc's on open, wont even detect my pix in my gallery......
A case of bad flash? Did it happen on all ROMs or just the one u r on? Did u try flashing to stock and then flashing ur rom?
its most definitely a flashing issue, it wont detect my pictures or anything either. i cant set my ringtones or anything. im downloading Odin on my windows computer (i do most of my tinkering with a macbook) so i can flash back to stock and start over. its really pissing me off that i finally found the modem/kernal/ROM combo i like and i get a million FCs.

[Q] Going to root wife's nook, what do you suggest?

So we just bought a nook color and she is still new to it. Obviously, she reads lots of books and I... well, want to make this into a tab and play w/ it. She might want to do web browsing and install some games/apps, but primarily will be used as an e-reader.
What rom (if any) do you suggest I flash? Or will I be better off just rooting the device and leaving it as is (w/ market)? She has no patience for developmental stuff so looking for something stable but also something I can play with

Root the Stock and leave it. its the most stable rom.
Make your own SD card, running Nookie Froyo or CyanogenMod. When you take the card out and reboot, her machine is completely back to normal, or so I'm told. You both get to have what you want.
I can run CM from SD card w/o rooting the device!? if so... sweet, I saw sum tuts but still educating myself. Rooting and leaving stock is also a good idea, however I heard B&N is able to update your device thus losing root... Is this true?
For her, it sounds like just rooting would be the best option, since it has the market, all of the B&N features, and is stable. As mentioned above, running a ROM from the sd card is a good option for you. After rooting it, you could format the sd card used to root, and then load a ROM such as CM7, Froyo, or Honeycomb from the SD card to play with.
This way, she has her mostly stock setup, and you have your tablet setup that you can load by just popping in the sd card and rebooting. When you're done playing with it, power down, pop the sd card out, reboot, and it's back to her setup.
If you do decide to run a ROM from the sd card, make sure to get at least a class 4 (sandisk class 4 4GB works well for me). Then, if you find something that would work for both of you, you could look at flashing to internal EMMC for better speed/performance. Another option is dual-booting between ROMs, which you can find more about in the development section.

There is a thread in the dev section on how to block the updates. Here's a link to the sd card version of CM7 you asked about. You don't have to root first, but you can.

As suggested I'd root the stock software for the wife, and when you want to play choose a ROM that can run from the sdcard and you will be good to go.
Currently I run 4 different setups. Stock rooted on internal mem. Then I setup 3 different sdcards to mess around with Honeycomb, CM7, and Froyo from time to time.

You do not have to root it first. All you have to do is create a live SDcard with Clockwork ROM manager put the SDCard in and boot it up holding the n and the power button in > wipe > flash CM7.
With this device reading off the SD first you do not have "antonoot" first.
I've ran CM7, Honeycomb and a few others. My personal choice is stock rooted device is perfect.

I know! I couldn't believe it was that easy either. I'm going to add a notice to my signature. This kind of great capability should be right in people's faces..
Nookiefroyo runs great off an SD card for me.

Thanks for everyone's input...
She gonna be using it 75% of the time, so I decided to root and leave it as is. Everything works good. I tried to do nookie froyo off SD card but had too much trouble w/ adb, i'll save it for another week. But for now, stock root works good. Got Zeam and Home switcher to help both of us out
I wanted to point out the only downside of rooted stock is that she cannot use in the in-store B&N features! If she plans on using that (i've heard they have not only the hour of reading free, but also sometimes offer deals and events) then you might wanna not be rooted and use the SD card. I know this is a little late to tell you as you already did it, but I thought I'd let you know anyway.

I'll throw this in for whenever you feel like creating a bootable SD CARD to play with. I've found that higher class sd cards make a much bigger difference in how fast/well the rom operates than you might think.

Internal SD Dead?

I curently have a bell i9000M I was running Doc's JPY for a few months but decided to his JS8 version the other day. As soon as I flashed it I noticed my phone was unable to install apps and in manage applications it gets stuck on computing.
So things I have tryed to get this working again........
Flashed EZbase using re-partition , still same issue on base.
Flashed Stock JH2 , still same issue.
Flashed Stock JL2 still same issue.
Flashed JH2 then JL2 through Kies same issue.
It seems I can not write to my internel SD although the rest of my phone seems to be working fine any Ideas?
Another thing I noticed is mass storage is not working on any rom only can connect using Kies method if I want to transfer files. Format internal SD is not working , it asks if you want to format you click yes it seems like something happens but then check the internal sd and all the files are still there.
I am not familiar with the I9000M but i know its very common to have SD card failures.
And it seems to me thats whats happened, im sorry for you
best thing you can do is, flash back to stock and send off for repair, hopefully you may get some luck with the next device.
One thing before you get all emotional have a look at this, its a long shot but......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975

Yea I was not getting any mounting errors in CWM or 2e/3e recovery...Anyway after a frustrating 3 days I now and I think it's finally working , so far.
I manually deleted all files off the internal SD, then did a format from within 3e recovery while on JL2 (this was acting like it was formatting before but all the files I downloaded were still there after the format). Then flashed Hardcore's K13 and installed a custom rom all seems fine so far but it did work periodically over these past few days so I'm hoping it stays working now.
What was weird is I could download files using the web browser but the market would not work all the time but when it did it was downloading the items but would just get stuck installing them.
Anyway thanks for the quick response. Hopefully I have this sorted out now.

[Q] Severe Unsolvable Lag Problem

Hi everyone,
I have an i9000 and ive tried out many different roms, never even soft bricked it, i have experience with odin etc so i pretty much know what im doing and am not a n00b. i was on darky v10 rc6 and when i upgraded to the stable 10.1 everything seemed fine, but i the impossible game starting lagging really badly, when it never had before, however the rest of the phone functioned perfectly. i tried enabling and disabling the lagfixes. i went over to gingerreal, back to a froyo ROM from docs kitchen, and finally just flashed back to unrooted gingerbread from samfirmware. each time, i wiped the data and the cache, and installed nothing but a fresh copy of the impossible game from the market, and made sure no other tasks were running, but every time, the only issue i could find was that the impossible game lagged. when i got back to stock, i thought i had solved it as it played fine for a few minutes, but the next time i loaded it up it started lagging again. note: i am not this anal about the impossible game, im just worried its symptomatic of a bigger problem with the phone. do you have any suggestions of how i can fix this issue? thanks so much for you help.
theo
I know it's a pain but maybe try connecting your phone to your PC and formatting the phones SD before flashing, could be clogged up with old files? Just a suggestion I could be wrong
I always format the SD through windows before a new ROM as doing it through CWM doesn't seem to remove a lot of the android folders + files - Could be slowing it down, as I said though, I'm no expert
try hard reset may be?
Update: I formatted the internal SD, external SD, took out the sim and external SD, wiped all data, reflashed stock then flashed 10.1 darky resurrection (odin package) this was all while fully charged. without putting back in the sim or external SD i did nothing but redownload the impossible game, and just like before, it started off fine but after 1-2 plays the lag came back. any ideas at all? this is so weird.

Having issues with miui/CM7

I'm having a issue with both cyanogenmod and miui
i'm having external SD card issues with both.. with CM7 every time i put my sd card in it says that the damaged and wont let me do anything with it.. same goes for the offical miui, if i flash the miui from the dev forums its shows that i insent the sd card for a split second then goes away.. or some times says its blank..
If i stick the same SD card in a Vibrant (T-Mobile version of the SGS) that is running the offical version of miui it works fine.. if i flash the captivate back to stock (2.1) it works fine.. Oh i did also flash the latest nightly version on CM7 and it seemed to work fine.. but i really like to play with miui for a while.. i like alot of the things it has with it (theme browser/customizer, file browser, sms client, ect)
anyone have any idea how to go about fixing this?
