[Q] Vzw galaxy tab USB Debugging problem workaround? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been pulling my hair out in attempts to get my SCH-I800 Verizon Galaxy Tab to not automatically disable USB Debugging.
I enable Debugging, start debugging, and within a few minutes I'm presented with a Mass Storage app that prompts me to unmount the sd card to mount on a computer and it has _switched off_ USB Debugging, grumble grumble. If my problem I need to monitor takes more than a few minutes I'm out of luck. I have to physically unplug the cable, traverse the menus to enable USB Debugging, replug the device in and start my app again.
The kulprit appears to be KiesUSBManager which is run as part of the System Server. I've tried several different ROMs in attempt to find one that has this fixed already without luck. I've even dug around to see if there is an obvious way I can remove this component from System Server from an existing ROM.
If anyone has a pointer on where to look on how to strip this out of a ROM, I can build or modify my own image. I've built Android from scratch before. I'm currently looking for a working vzw rom repo to work from.
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): usb mode = 2
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): UsbMode.cdfs_eject
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): setKiesRun -> true
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): setCDFSEject
D/VzwLMService( 2467): Provider is being enabled: true
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): UMS
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): selectUsb -> UMS
Please help!
Jonathan

Has it been fixed?
I too have this problem. All I want to do I access debugging!

USB problem perhaps PC related.

I have a weird problem with my USB port (I assume it's PC related but...?).
I can connect and sync my kaiser with a std or the HTC USB cable but if I cradle it in the Seidio or connect the 3-1 adapter I get the response "unknown USB device". Strange enough is that NONE of the two is charging. At other PC's it sometimes works, sometimes not. I assume my USB drivers of my Dell Optiplex are toast but how to reinstall...
Well, start with checking to see if under settings------->connections-------->"usb to pc ", the usb to pc option doesnt have " enable advanced networking functionality" checked ( enabled ). That will most times cause issues with activesync connecting and especially prevent USB charging.
Next, check to see if actvesync is set to use USB as an active connection type under its settings.
Delete any previous activesync pairs you may have and try to reconnect. I somehow doubt its your drivers but the best way to check is to just go to Microsoft.com, navigate to their downloads section, and download a new copy of activesync.
One last thing to check. Some roms have a battery option (settings ----------> power-------> battery tab ) that doesnt allow charging when connected to a PC. Make sure that is NOT checked.
Thanks for your reply.
I tried all you mentioned beside uninst. AS clean the PCs reg and reinstall.
Will let everybody know.

[SOLVED]Galaxy Tab doesn't display when connected to PC via mass storage

My Galaxy Tab when connected to PC via Samsung KIES runs fine... but when I connect it as Mass Storage, it doesn't show up in My Computer... I even tried re-flashing the TAB again to overcome kratos and the default stock rom... to no avail... need help...
To make things a bit clearer, here's the setup...
USB Debugging set to OFF / PC running Windows 7
USB Settings set to SAMSUNG KIES
PC detects the TAB as GT-P1000 and I can access the internal storage... though a tad bit slow when transferring data & stuff...
USB Settings set to MASS STORAGE
PC detects the TAB -> TAB displays USB Connected -> press CONNECT USB STORAGE
PC detects TAB as Android UMS Composite USB Device -> note without drive letter
After sometime, I've finally found the culprit... here's my solution:
#1 - Set USB Settings to MASS STORAGE -> Connect TAB -> PC detects TAB but doesn't show TAB as USB Device
#2 - run the program diskmgmt.msc via Windows Start Button->Run->diskmgmt.msc
#3 - Disk Management loads all detected hard drives & USB media... saw my TAB's icon without the drive letter... (it seems Win7 had a hard time assigning one, maybe because I've got lots of USB drives)
#4 - Right-click on the TAB's icon and on the context menu choose -> Change Drive Letter and Paths...
#5 - Simply assign a drive letter and voila! Your TAB's detected again as USB Mass Storage
When you try to use mass storage do you go into menu, settings, wireless and network, usb settings, and change it to mass storage?

yes... it was working fine the last time I've connected the TAB as usb mass storage... but after the next time... it was no longer displaying on my computer...
same here.. using kratos overcome ROM.. my laptop detects the said removable devices but when i double click on it, it says it needs to be formatted.. =/
I am not sure if this will work, but see if USB debugging is on. If so, turn it off.

Already tried both, but to no avail... what could be the problem..?
Same to me and now I am back to the stock ROM though still no USB charging as original

[Q] How to change USB connection mode?

How can i change USB connection mode for the Note? Everytime I connect the USB cable, Note always connect in MPT mode even with the MHL adapter. Help pleaseeeeeee
usb debugging
go to menu/settings/applications/development on phone then put a checked mark in the box for usb debugging. when you connect to your computer your phone will beep letting you know it has been connected to a usb source. use pull down screen touch the usb connected message and then touch the connect usb storage button. the little green guy turns orange and now your phone will show up on your computer as an extra drive. from here you can just drag and drop files to the phones directory just like a usb pen drive. i believe this is what you where asking about. hope it helps.
note: first time connecting your computer it will probably install a new device driver and also if you are using Kies you need to turn off debugging before Kies can see the phone.
First off, makes sure you install latest version of Samsung Kies, which includes USB driver for the Note.
Also there is setting to connect mass storage mode manually: Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB utilities. But it seems to be the same as just choosing to connect from the notification bar and wants you to disable debugging.

I am facing similar issue, Windows7-32 bit, when connect SGN via USB (MTP) for firmware upgrade but not sure about 'Kies Mode', few other people got firmware upgraded successfully so i think it's something else. see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318734&page=59.
In the notifications bar at the top of your screen. You will see a usb symbol in that bar. 3) Use your finger and pull down the bar and then tap the usb symbol. There you will see the option to chang it from MTP mode to any other mode option it has.
I hope this helps.

Can't turn on MTP mode

Hi, guys! I have a trouble and I broke my mind to try to solve it. My phone N6 can't work in mass storage mode (MTP), only Charging, PTP, or MIDI. If I try to turn on any other modes (MTP, RNDIS, Audio Source), the phone automatically changes to Charging. I tryed to turn on/off USB debugging in Developer options, several times flash another versions of firmware, use another cable (but I think it can't help, because MTP don't turn on even cable doesn't connect to phone. Don't know what I can to do else. Help, please.
See details by link: youtu.be/em1di2fqT6g
Unplug your usb, go disable usb debugging, go into your developer options, find "select usb config" under the "networking" section.
You will want to select MTP, if it doesnt work look for PTP, and if it doesnt work (or isnt there) just select file transfer.
This will now be default selection when you plug in your phone. if your phone is still not being recognized, id highly suggest trying one more cable.
i literally have 5 in my house that are all **** and only charge.

tryed all of this earlier, and nothing helps
why cant you use ptp?
I can, but think that there is something wrong torturing me This phone arrived a few days ago from Ebay, and I would like to know is this a bug from seller, or I broke it while firmware, and whether it is possible to fix.
Did you solved the problem? I have the same problem with my nexus 6
no, after I disassembled the phone for changing camera module, I found a new problem, phone doesn't charge anymore. At this moment I wait a spare logic board. I think that problem with MTP mode is a hardware problem, wich can progress.

Question Setting USB Defaults

Hey guys, I'm a new owner and have a question. Whenever I connect to USB, by device prompts for the device connection mode. I've tried setting the default in Developer Options, but there appears to be some duplication in there with "Default USB Configuration" (which seems to get ignored) and "Select USB configuration". I use Android Auto a lot and I find this annoying when I connect to my car. Anyone else noticed this?
this as always the case with the phones I've had, same as override force-dark mode (developer settings) resets after a reboot
