Hey guys, I'm a new owner and have a question. Whenever I connect to USB, by device prompts for the device connection mode. I've tried setting the default in Developer Options, but there appears to be some duplication in there with "Default USB Configuration" (which seems to get ignored) and "Select USB configuration". I use Android Auto a lot and I find this annoying when I connect to my car. Anyone else noticed this?
this as always the case with the phones I've had, same as override force-dark mode (developer settings) resets after a reboot

Hi, guys! I have a trouble and I broke my mind to try to solve it. My phone N6 can't work in mass storage mode (MTP), only Charging, PTP, or MIDI. If I try to turn on any other modes (MTP, RNDIS, Audio Source), the phone automatically changes to Charging. I tryed to turn on/off USB debugging in Developer options, several times flash another versions of firmware, use another cable (but I think it can't help, because MTP don't turn on even cable doesn't connect to phone. Don't know what I can to do else. Help, please.

Unplug your usb, go disable usb debugging, go into your developer options, find "select usb config" under the "networking" section.
You will want to select MTP, if it doesnt work look for PTP, and if it doesnt work (or isnt there) just select file transfer.
This will now be default selection when you plug in your phone. if your phone is still not being recognized, id highly suggest trying one more cable.
i literally have 5 in my house that are all **** and only charge.

tryed all of this earlier, and nothing helps
why cant you use ptp?
I can, but think that there is something wrong torturing me This phone arrived a few days ago from Ebay, and I would like to know is this a bug from seller, or I broke it while firmware, and whether it is possible to fix.
Did you solved the problem? I have the same problem with my nexus 6
no, after I disassembled the phone for changing camera module, I found a new problem, phone doesn't charge anymore. At this moment I wait a spare logic board. I think that problem with MTP mode is a hardware problem, wich can progress.
Hi,
I really hope someone can help me!
I've recently switched from iPhone to Android. Previously with my iPhone when plugging the phone in via USB it'd basically turn into an iPod and allowed me to play music through the speakers of the car. But with my Android (Huawei P20 Pro) I just get an error message on the car's screen saying "No supported data found". My car does not support Android Auto so that's a no go.
Does any one know any settings can be changed to allow me to play music via the car speakers using USB?
Cheers
Chris
Make sure the phone USB settings are set for Audio source or MTP. When plugged in the phone should show a pop up showing USB options you need to choose MTP or Mass Storage Mode. Another option is enable developer options and set it to default to MTP, to enable developer options goto settings, about phone, and keep tapping build number 7 times. You will get a new option called developer options. In there scroll to "select USB options" about half way down and there you can change the USB options. But im not sure if this will affect charging etc so take a note of what it is before changing so you can change back if it dont work. To be honest you should just get the notification on the phone when plugged into the USB, make sure you check the notifications area as its sometimes hidden there.
If you don't see a pop-up menu, just swipe from the VERY top of the screen, you should see USB options as described by marshyrob
I've managed to get Android Auto operational with my S10 and 2018 Civic. Initially I had trouble with it but some info on Google that suggested it was related to the USB connection mode and it was suggested to switch to developer mode, enable USB Debugging, and then USB Tethering as the default connection style. This worked initially but for whatever reason is does not remember the setting. Even if I select it as default. Every time I remove the phone from the USB or turn the car off and reconnect I am required to pull down the notification screen, select, USB options, and reselect USB tethering.
For whatever reason my selection of making the USB tethering the default connection type is not sticking. It's a pain in the butt to have to reset it every time I hook the phone up in my car.
Any ideas how to fix this?
I've emailed OnePlus support several times and they do not answer, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.
My old phone (Galaxy S7) worked perfectly with Ford Sync 3, so it's not the car or a Sync3 issue. Both my phone and Sync 3 are fully updated.
With my OnePlus 7T, I cannot get Android Auto to work. The connection drops out (anywhere from 1 second to 1 minute).
On Sync3, you have to use USB tethering. OnePlus cable is being used, and several high quality and short length generic USB cables have been tested with the same issue.
When you plug in the USB cable, it opens Android Auto, but it always drops out. When opening USB preference and selecting anything other than "No Data Transfer", Android Auto drops out.
I've set Bluetooth tethering on and the default USB preferences to "File Transfer" (settings/system/developer options/default USB configuration).
I've done a factory reset with no backup transferred to my phone, and a factory reset on Sync 3. The same issues continue and I cannot use Android Auto for more than a few seconds before it drops out. When it does this, the Sync 3 doesn't show Android Auto options to open, and my phone still has Android Auto running.
The problem is caused by the phone (One Plus 7T) defaulting my USB connection to "No data Transfer" even though I have it defaulted to "File Transfer". If I try to change it back to "File Transfer", it opens Android Auto for a second, and then drops out again, resetting it to "No Data Transfer". I can do this multiple times and every time it reset to "No Data Transfer".
How do I stop this and force it to stay on "File Transfer" so Android Auto can communicate with my phone?
In Developer Settings you can change the default USB mode. On my old car (Audi A4) I didn't have to change that, "Charge Only" was ok. But on my new car (Skoda Octavia) it has to be set (and sometimes the phone also needs to be unlocked to start the connection).

Thank you for responding. I have set the default USB to "File Transfer" in the developer settings, and I have connected the phone with the screen locked and unlocked, many times in testing this. It doesn't make any difference. Android Auto opens for a few seconds and then drops out again. When checking the USB settings (from the drop-down menu at the top) it defaults back to "No data Transfer". If I change it to "File Transfer" it opens Android Auto again, and within a few seconds drops out again, resetting the USB preference to "No Data Transfer". If I keep trying it's a continuous loop of the phone resetting to "No Data Transfer" and Android Auto drops out (due to no data being allowed to transfer).
This is so frustrating!
But it's normal to be switched to no once AA is connected. Ny switching it back you're forcing a reconnect, not a connect
My S21 Ultra when connect to PC via USB cable, it only shows "Charging ..", not pop-up noti ask about Data transfer. And i cant find "USB Option" in Settings. I guess thats the reason i cant use Android Auto anymore. My device updated to One UI 5.1. How to fix this problem guys?
I followed video on youtube about setting data transfer in Development option but it didnt work.
Change cable
