Insert your micro sd card directly into your pc with an sd card or usb adapter. Delete the bad update.zip and replace with a different update.zip theme file, place card back into G1 then startup using home+power and alt+s the file. You should be good to go and you wont lose anything.

Hello all,
Trying to restore my sd card to working order and im kinda stumped.Ive googled the problem and cant seem to get anything to work.
This happened after flashing cm6 blue rom and this was the first rom ive ever flashed. I used the universal androot method to root and rom manager to flash the rom. The rom works beautifully and I was able to go into recovery and flash ggaps even though phone isnt mounting to sd card. When I go to sd card in settings and click mount it say preparing sd card and then reverts back to safe to remove sd card. Any help would be great! thanks
Take the card out and Wen ur phone is on pull the battey out wait a few min reboot the phone back up with out then repeat this again this time wen the battery is out put the SD card back in reboot in recovery the home and power button way then wipe file ext and reboot might work might not worth a try

Do you have a SD card reader in your PC? Have you tried taking the SD card out of your phone, putting it into your PC, and formatting it? Copy everything that's on it to your desktop first, then format it, then recopy the files back to the card after the format. Then try putting it back in your phone. That may solve your problem.
Also , if you're recovery is reading it to flash gapps, then it may be the rom install. If all else fails, try a compete wipe and reflash

My Boot will not boot no matter what I do. I encountered this issue after flashing to phiremod v4, which worked beautifully until I decided to free up some storage space on my SD card and format it through the Nook. The next time I tried to boot, I got the dreaded black screen.
I've burned Clockwork Recovery (4gb v .7) onto the SD card and copied the Nook Color V1.1.0_r2 rom (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145). From there, I formatted the data, system, and cache, then installed the rom from the SD card. Everything went through smoothly, until I rebooted the Nook (with the SD card out). Nothing happens! The Nook simply will not reboot without the SD card inserted. Even if it boots (with the SD card) it just sends me back to Clockwork Recovery.
I also tried recovering the Nook through ADB (using the steps found here http://mrm3.net/2011/01/24/113/). I install everything, but I cannot locate the ADB device in the device manager. I've even used the .bat file to auto installs ADB, but it is still not found in the device manager.
I've read that it is nearly impossible to brick a Nook, but I'm not sure what else to try. I'm a Android noob, so please bear with me. TIA!
Fairly certain I read about a bug with formatting the SD card on the NC, that it would format the internal memory instead. I would imagine you will need to flash a new image to the internal memory (should be stock image floating around here somewhere).
No worries, you are most likely NOT bricked. There are hundreds of posts about people thinking they bricked their device.
First thing is first, IF YOU READ THE POST IT SPECIFICALLY STATES DO NOT FORMAT THE SDCARD USING THE NOOK AS IT WIPES THE /BOOT
My suggestion to you is do some research on XDA there are PLENTY of posts about "unbricking" your device.
I have only seen 1 nook be bricked, and it was hardly bricked because it could be booted from an SDCard.
Try following the instructions here to return back to the stock OS:

Yeah, I realize that was a big no no. I am unable to perform any of the steps in the link you provided because my nook doesn't even reach the 'Welcome to the future of reading' screen. Also, I can't try method 2 because ADP is not working properly.
I should mention that I also tried samuelhalff's first method to no avail. Any other ideas?
So you CAN boot from an SDCard correct? Only way to boot again is to flash the boot file...

Yes, I can boot (to Clockwork Recovery) if the SD card is inserted and the power cord is inserted and I hold the power button for 10 seconds. If I install a rom from the SD card, doesn't it flash the boot file? If not, how do I flash the boot file?
I know you said you tried Sams method, I would re-read how to flash his boot repartition file found on his froyo on emmc thread

Here's the link to the boot file. I did the same thing not long ago (formatted SD from within CM7) and I fixed it by flashing this file to repartition the boot.
It's the last link in the OP of this thread (repartition-boot-with-stock.zip):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
If that doesn't work, he has a couple of restore to stock methods in that thread as well.

YES! This did it! I missed this link somehow. Many thanks to all that helped.
Ok, now I'm stuck on the screen that says "Contains Reader Mobile technology by Adobe Systems Incorporated". Did this happen to you C Dippa? I'm going to try a reset and see if that helps.

Nope...it just booted up, may have taken a little longer.
Any luck with it?
Yeah, I had to do the 8 failed boot attempts to bypass that screen, then re-root. Now, I'm all set! Phiremod is installed again.
Glad to have helped! Happy nooting!

How do you access clockwork recovery on the nook? Does the 3 button combo work? Is it different if you are running a rom off of the sd than if it's run directly off of the nook?
You have two options:
If you're booted up you can go to the Rom Manage app and select Reboot In Recovery Mode.
Or you can shut down by pressing power button and then on screen shut down button.
When your NC is completely off press and hold Power and 'n' button simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
It took me two hours of searching to find this answer. Hopefully this thread will come up in search results
Thank you, I was wondering this also.
neither method seems to work for me unfortunately. Both just end up booting normally.
Are you sure you installed CWM? From RomManager you need to select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Also, I'm not sure how having an active system on an SD card will affect this process. Are you booting from eMMC or SD?
I don't mean to thread steal (hopefully i am just providing more useful information if my question/problem is answered).
When I boot into clockwork, i get can't mount SD card. Therefore can't install any themes as the themes are on the SD card, is there something I am doing wrong? I think I reformatted my SD card to be fat32 and not NTFS, does this matter? It seems to be able to read off the SD card when I am fully booted up.
TIA

I was having the same issue after flashing the eMMC install for Honeycomb from the dev forums. I ended up going back to CM7 but when I tried to install the new Clockwork Recovery (3.0.1.0) using the manual method it wouldn't work and just kept booting strait to CM7.
To fix it I first restored the stock boot img from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919353
After that I put in my bootable SD card and flashed the cwmr_3.0.1.0.zip from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971197
That fixed my boot issues and got recovery working, after that I could flash the image I wanted using a non-SD recovery.
Before doing any of that it would probably be a good idea to toss in a bootable SD card and doing a backup.
Ive been having trouble and flashing roms for the past week trying to get my captivate to boot, but i constanly either get into a boot loop or i load into a black screen.
In CWM 5.1.0.7, when i choose "Install zip from sdcard > Choose zip from sdcard" i get a "E: Can't mount /sdcard/" error.
If i go to "Reformatting, tweaks and more > System Information > Browse directories and files", ill get "No files found." on a few of the directories and my /bin folder only has "init.goldfish.sh" in it. most of them have only bare minimal things in them. (im not sure if this is normal or not)
How should i go about fixing this?

Thanks a million! I atleast got my phone to start up now lol. Is there really no hope for the internal SD? No way to flash it back to normal? It is a software error afterall.

according to me , no there is no hope...
bt according to some users, their sd card came back to life after some time and then got bricked again...
and also no to the stock, it boots up bt cannot really do anything..
you can now use cm10,10.1,10.2, 11 roms using neat kernel..

4 days later, I finally have the time to have one last follow up problem. I've flashed a CM11 nightly and my external sd shows up as my main storage in settings. I can download apps but i still can't access my camera or save pictures from the internet(it tells me "no SD card , and sd card is required to download). Also tested this with the voice recorder, it wouldnt start and told me the same thing.
Is this normal with the method you gave or have i done something wrong?

I got it completely working with your advice but when i took the phone out of my pocket it was stuck on the neat kernal loading screen and rebooting it wouldnt help. I decided to flash back to stock and redo the process. I wiped all data etc. in recovery but when i went to partition the sd card again in cwm it finished instantly.
My pc wouldnt read it and even my another phone didnt detect it was there.
I'm assuming the SD card just died, its verbatim 8gig(Not sure if thats a reliable brand or not).
Could this be because i did something wrong is it just a coincidence with the sd card dying? Im buying a sandisk soon anyhow.
