Flash/Unlock and use a bad ESN Incredible 2? - HTC Incredible S

Is it possible to take a Verizon Incredible 2 with Bad ESN...unlock it/flash, and use it on AT&T?
Thanks

It may be possible. Since the Bad ESN means that the CDMA ESN has been reported as lost or stolen to Verizon, Verizon will not activate this phone on their CDMA network. However, if you can SIM unlock the GSM side, then you could use it on a GSM network without regard to the CDMA ESN. The final question is whether the SIM unlock will accept a AT&T SIM card. I remember seeing several discussion thread in the Inc2 forums about using a North American SIM in the phone once it has been unlocked. I just can't recall off the top of my head if you can or not.

Can D3 and activate on pageplus?? and where can i get the phone with no contract?
i think verizon offers $459 and amazon offers $549~ but how can i buy the phone with $459 price?
and can i return it if i cant get activated on pageplus
You need a verizon account to purchase the phone, or find a friend that does. The d3 should work on pageplus as its not a new 4glte device that requires a sim to activate, uses an old school *228 activation

what does that mean??
If I buy the phone from Amazon wireless will it be unlocked, that is, can it work anywhere in the world on any GSM provider's SIM?
A proper answer would be much appreciated.
I seriously wanna buy this phone and I am willing to pay the $550 price at Amazon wireless, if and only if, the phone is unlocked.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the D3 isn't a GSM phone. I'm pretty sure its only a global cdma

The Droid 3 is a GSM and CDMA handset, it is mentioned in the verizon manual for this handset that a sim card can be inserted, currently it is suspected however that this is sim locked.
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/mot_droid3/droid3.pdf
Go to the Global Phone section in this PDF and it is mentioned
It is a global phone that supports GSM networks. Arguing over it won't help us much. What will help is an answer to which version of the phone is unlocked for all GSM networks.
Its is a GSM global phone, includes a Verizon SIM that is locked. Verizon customers in good standing can get the phone unlocked with a call to Verizon Global support.

Hmmm....yes, but the question here is whether the phones with no contract are also SIM locked or not.
hi guys, can anyone answer my question
So, here's the response I got from the Amazonwireless guys:
{I'm very sorry but the replacement phones (phone only no service) on Amazonwireless are locked to the carriers. You would need to find an unlocked phone.
There are basically two types of unlocked phones. CDMA Unlocked and GSM Unlocked.
An Unlocked CDMA phone will basically work with carriers like Verizon, Alltel, and Sprint. Unlocked GSM phones work with carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Unlocked cell phones are designed to work with any carrier that uses SIM cards. Some advanced features may not work depending on the carrier you are using. I would recommend contacting the carrier you are going to be using to ask if the phone you are interested in will work with their network, and if there are any features that you would not be able to use.
If you would like to shop for an unlocked cell phone please visit Amazon.com using the link below
www(dot)amazon(dot)com/cellphones
I hope this information helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.}
Thomaslau it means that this phone still needs to be activated using *228 which pageplus accepts. 4gLTE phones do not use *228, they use a sim card to activate

so it will works???
What my understanding is with CDMA is that it's ALWAYS unlocked. The problem lies with carriers not allowing foreign ECID/IMEI's on their network database which allows the phones to work.
Should work flawless

ok, now i got my droid 3, but i struck at the activation menu, the one with the android robot. what should i do to activate my phone on pageplus?? do i need to activate my phone on verizon then pageplus?
I thought with pageplus you call them, give them the esn from the back of the phone, starts with a000000, then dial *228 when they tell you to

[Q] Bad esn droid 3 global

hi. if my droid 3 global has a bad esn, can i use it with the verizon gsm sim i have?
thanks
No you cant. The sim card is for global once you travel out the US. If you can get the device sim unlock from Verizon, I would just sell the device to someone International and buy another phone after that. Once a device has a bad ESN, the device is not usable by that carrier until the device is cleared of.
actually, the verizon sim does work in the US. right now, i am on a laptop using it. i can get an unlock code if i wanted to also. and what i am thinking is that only cdma uses ESN. if i use the verizon sim, wouldnt it work anyways? because sim does not use ESN.
You are correct, only CDMA uses ESN. GSM modems uses MEID

Exactly. So can it use the verizon sim instead, and still work?
Wait a second. Lemme get a couple things straight:
1. You have a VZ D3.
2. Your ESN for your D3 has been blacklisted or blocked in some way.
3. You're getting service on your D3 despite your ESN being blocked?
VZ doesn't have a GSM network, so the SIM is completely useless in the states, because you can't use the UMTS radio as VZ has blocked US carriers (unless you've flashed with the Chinese ME883 rom, which updates the radio firmware so you can use it on AT&T / T-mobile (2.5G only). If your ESN is blocked, you shouldn't be getting any service at all.

No, if the ESN of the device isn't working at all, a SIM card isn't going to be much good. All CDMA devices (re: phones, mobile broadband modems) use ESN/MEID to authenticate the device for service, NOT IMSI, which is what the SIM card provides. The D3 won't be able to work even with a valid Verizon SIM because it doesn't use that at all to authenticate. The IMSI/SIM is only used while roaming on GSM networks.
In a nutshell - GSM uses IMSI on SIM card for service. Sticking a Verizon SIM card in will do nothing for the D3 because the ESN/MEID is still bad.
I'm guessing you can only use a non verizon sim card outside of US if you're unlocked, or flash the XT883 rom instead

i think eXecuter means... "GSM models use IMEI", by all means, MEID is just the code of newer generation replacing ESN (since ESN is exhausted)

since sprint has a SIM slot, does this mean possible to unlock for ATT / T-mobile?

since sprint has a SIM slot, does this mean possible to unlock for ATT / T-mobile?
Nope
Sprint=CDMA
ATT/T-Mobile=GSM
Actually... Sprint HTC One = CDMA/LTE and GSM...
So yes it's technically possible, but there's been a few hiccups with getting it accomplished. The method to SIM Unlock the device that regular GSM providers use (pop in a third party SIM and it prompts you for an unlock code) doesn't work with the Sprint HTC One so it requires a bit more creativity to get it unlocked. Unless something's changed recently there hasn't been a whole lot of success with using it on domestic GSM networks either. Even if you could do it, it's of limited utility since it only supports one 3G band out of the various 3G and 4G bands used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. Therefore, you may experience reduced data performance with the device in certain places.

how do I get my AT&T galaxy s5 to work with Verizon SIM card

The phone is sim unlocked via an unlock code I bought but when I put my Verizon SIM card in it it won't make phone calls or texts our anything. The only thing it does is say not registered on network. The phone is rooted but I haven't had time to tinker with it yet.

What carrier for XT1050??

I have a Moto X XT1050. Its suppose to be carrier unlocked but every one i try i get the same, they cant activate.
It was recently activated on Alltel but the were just bought out by at&t. Idk what carrier this phone will work under
Can anyone help??
From what I recall, the XT1050 variant was made for regional CDMA carriers, and is probably SIM and Bootloader locked.
SIM lock will obviously not allow you to use it with a GSM based carrier's SIM. If its supposed to be SIM unlocked, that is another story... please provide specifics of what happens when "they cant activate."
Bootloader lock will prevent you from rooting, and/or flashing other firmware to it.

Verizon will not activate any phones that aren't Verizon branded. That's what the rep. means by "unsupported".
Some CDMA MVNOs may support it, I haven't checked around to see. Chances are T-Mo or AT&T will. As noted by another poster he found a GSM carrier in Indonesia that it works with. Chances are any European carrier will too, but that won't help him at the moment.
At&t won't take it either. I don't get it. What's the point in an unlocked phone if nobody will take it??

Verizon uses the XT1060... IF the listing on Wikipedia are correct, the XT1050 and XT1060 use slightly different frequency for CDMA.
Not to mention, as @glarepate has already said, Verizon will not activate a device that isn't Verizon Branded.
IN the OP you say its SIM Unlocked, now you say you're not sure about the SIM??

SIM unlocked = Carrier Unlocked yes, at least for GSM carriers. But the GSM carriers might not offer much support getting your device working.
CDMA carriers, like Verizon, might have the GSM side unlocked (i.e. you can pop an ATT or T-Mobile or other SIM in there and use it), but the CDMA side is LOCKED. Sprint, another CDMA carrier, has the GSM side SIM LOCKED on their 2013 X (XT1056)

Verizon doesn't sell the XT1050, so I wouldn't put any faith into what they tell you. If its not a Verizon Branded Xt1060, they will not activate it on their service PERIOD.
Verizon still uses CDMA for voice and 3G data. So even if you put a Verizon 4GLTE SIM in there, it wont work.
The Verizon XT1060 is GSM Unlocked out of the box. (This is due to FCC C-Block Rules), so IF this was a Verizon XT1060, you could put a T-Mobile, ATT, Rogers, etc SIM in there and use the GSM side.
BUT you said this phone is an XT1050. So its not the same.
Good luck.

Can you tell me any other carriers inside the US, lol. I already checked with AT&t, got the same thing as with Verizon. Not sure about T-Mo, that's the only one I haven't checked that picks up where I live. I have a great phone and can't even activate it. It kinda sucks.
And one more thing, sorry if I'm being a pain but why couldn't I use a Verizon SIM in it and it'd work??

By all means check with T-Mo. They are trying to get more customers and may be willing to work with you. They tend to be more flexible that AT&T anyway.
Ting uses Sprint (so that may not work for you if there is no coverage) and Cricket uses AT&T, both have BYOD.

THe FCC ID on the XT1050 and XT1060 appear to be the same.
I haven't done enough digging to confirm the similarities or differences between the XT1050 and XT1060. As I said earlier, IF the wikipedia entry for the 2013 X is correct, at least the CDMA frequencies are slightly different.
I have seen my Verizon Dev Edition XT1060 list another model at one point when trying to install drivers. (ANd I've always had the stock roms installed.) so I'd just say its a little strange from time to time.
Any querries you can do of the phone right now are all software based, so if you have an XT1050 ROM on the phone, the results would say its an XT1050. If you have a 3rd party ROM on there, you likely wont see an accurate model number.
The best way is... IF the phone has the original Moto back on it.. look for the small, very fine, print at the bottom on the back. Sometimes you have to tilt the phone side to side to get light to reflect off it just right... and If you have eyes like mine, you might need a magnifying glass to read it. It will have the FCC ID and the model number on it.

Hey @KidJoe, guess what? I called the postpaid department of Verizon and the lady told me that since my Moto X was on Alltel last that I could bring it to a store and they can put it in their system. I told her everything i knew about the phone. She said it can NOT be activated on prepaid BUT it can on postpaid. Got that same info from 2 or 3 other online support reps, lol.. So in that case you CAN activate NON verizon phones on Verizon.... oh AND I flashed the Verizon firmware on it and it works great.
