i know hurts my eyes looking at it. supposed to give excellent battery life though.
no it does not, i ran a test (its in the general section) because of the "render" it slows your phone down considerably and wastes cpu cycles ergo negating any battery life you would have saved (if you had an oled screen), but since we have an lcd screen EVERY pixel is lit up regardless if its in use or not. i had 29 hours with almost no use, people on here get longer then that with a bit of use...
TL: DR slows your phone down, does make it look cool if your into that, but it doesnt save battery from what ive seen
I would love this app and I dont care if it kills my battery. The green is nice for using screen at night. Better then white screen at night. So do we have a answer where can we get it? Running droidX.
If you are using CM6, it is in Settings > Cyan Settings > Render effect.
You can also add a render fx widget to your home screen. Add it like any other widget.

Cm6 is not supported on droidX. I do have and use it on my original Droid. And im looking for this or something like it.

You're right. The whole idea of showing only one color exploits the technology of OLED and its ability to only light up pixels on demand. LCD works by having the entire backlight always on, with polarizers selectively attenuating the light appropriately for each pixel. That's why LCD cannot achieve true black like OLED, and that's why OLED contrast ratio tests destroy LCD.
Since our Hero has the latter technology, this has absolutely no positive effects for us. Don't use it unless you like less colors.
So I have torn apart most of cyanogenmod's roms and settings trying to find this. So if anyone has it please upload that would be awesome

i actually used to use this for getting late night calls in bed and it hasn't worked properly after one of the many updates since August. Once the phone unlocks its back to normal. Anyone else?
I'm trying to re size some pictures for back ground on my REVO. Does anyone know what the dimensions should be? Also is there a size limit on the jpeg?
Thanks All.

All you do is come on here and piss and moan about how crappy this phone is yet you do absolutely nothing constructive. The so called "sorry" resolution of 480x800 is correct and is exactly the same resolution as the thunderbolt and droid charge, not to mention most every other 4.3" screen phone out on the market except for the htc, sensation.
If you don't like the phone do 1 of 2 things, 1) sell it and get something else so you can piss and moan on there boards, or 2) shut up and do something constructive. Complaining is not going to encourage the dev that is here and working, and it sure isn't going to bring in others from the outside. So complaining and running others off is not going to help your "sorry" phone get any better, and you are going to be stuck with it the way it is.

i'm already stuck with it and i've been doing everything i can to make this phone better, including verbally supporting the dev that we have (funds will come later upon completion of the RevoToolKit - there's your constructive jargon for you). i'll do other "constructive" things when the time comes and when i feel like it.
also, that resolution IS sorry. it has been out for phones since the original droid x. you would think a "flagship" phone for LG like the Revolution would have more out of the box. the droid x2 has a res of 540 x 960, you can't compare our screens to the charge or any samsung phone for that matter (it's the same res, but sam's is obviously better), and even the original droid has a 480 x 854 (i'd look for more, but i think that'll suffice). my main gripe about this phone has always been about the screen.
i chose this phone over the tbolt because the battery lasts longer. i chose it over the charge because it's faster and it looks better than both phones. THERE. i said some good things about it. happy? the screen still sucks.
never knew that consumers couldn't be unhappy with the product. SURE i'll just shut up about it. news flash: devs go where they want. doesn't depend on what one person thinks about a device. besides, you have plenty of people on this forum happy about their Revo. why can't you just let me be unhappy about mine?
to the OP: like i said 480 x 800. screen size is 4.3 (not that it matters). you can make it bigger, but in order to show cleanly as a background, it has to be the same aspect ratio.
If you aren't using static wallpapers, and the wallpaper scrolls with the screen, the resolution of the width needs to be doubled to allow for the scrolling... so try 960(w) by 800(h).

Hello fellow xda members, im visiting from the p500 section, and I'm in the market for a new phone. So i have the choice Between this and the nexus s. Can you all. Demystify the issues I've heard? The hdmi out is really selling me, but people tell me about various issues. So can yall help me?

well to be honest this device has had a fair share of problems i luckily didnt face any of them from my experience it beats nexus s in all ways, processor camera hdmi speed display built quality, all aspects are better. There are a few thing though u should look before getting this device if u get a used one from the market
1- Put on a black wallpaper or image and see the corners for lcd bleeding
2- Load couple of system apps like camera and stuff see if it looses responsiveness or restarts, finally look closely at lcd if there are dead pixels if it passes those test ill buy the g2x no doubt about it

Just have to say... If you didn't get it, I bet you wish you did Nexus S is first phone after gn to get ics! This phone is the ISH! It is now clear why google chose this phone over the g2- the gpu still beast enough to handle ICS, while none of the other phones (except gs) of the time(not event g2) can compete. I will never buy anything but Nexus.
Nexus FTW!
Ok so this is a topic that has been bothering me the mms compression issue upon sending to other devices . Previously the images sent had a size at about 30kb compressed by either sprint and or the mms apk . Several devs took notice and did what they could to allow larger maximum size from 2mb to 5mb therefor making larger image files to be sent .
That was part of the issue and I'm sure there is more than what I found well I saw it in another thread of the HTC EVO LTE had this issue . So the fix is to change the jpeg image to a png to my understanding png is a more compression safe container for images .
Now this remaining issue is that its still somewhat bad quality but it sends the image as png with much much less compression taking effect . Also the image file at times to large for other devices to receive the image ill guess and say anything over 2mb will have an issue being sent to other devices.
Edit so testing this with my DNA is odd to say the least I can't pinpoint what size it allows to sent or not at times it will accept 2mb or above others it won't I don't get it lol the accepting phone is the droid DNA no root no Rom . But to my rooted phone accepted them all okay .
Can someone please help me figure this out I know devs here like to stay hush hush but I got my family member the s3 she is not able to get around to the pc and does not have email so direct mms is best .
Thanks guys
Thanks rydah for the mms edits as well
Edit phones I sent to are the sprint gs3 the I9300 on ATT and the HTC DNA on Verizon .

This has been posted a few times. Its a Sprint compression thing. It been fixed in one rom that I know of. The current max file size for photos in MMS is 2mb I believe. The rom fix bumps it up to 5mb.
is there a fix for non rooted?
That's my point as of now there is none other than to share the pics for people who root are gonna be fine but until they come up with a fix to ota or something most users will have to work around the issue those on Xda can root its really so easy on the one ..

They're not gonna "fix" it because there is no problem to begin with. This is done on all phones so that the data transmitted is kept to a minimum and reduces load on the network, as opposed to sending uncompressed MMS

So everyone must live with the face mms will look horrid sending it to any phone with sprint ?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
This is also my biggest issue with sprint. I understand the need to compress the image, however, sprint compresses the image much more than the other networks. It's such a waste to have a great camera only to have the image look like crap when you want to share it.
There's no excuse for sprint, especially now that their new network is taking shape, not to reduce the amount of compression in mms.
In the meantime, I'm hoping Google's chat app Bable will allow for uncompressed mms.
I think the compression on the photo is done on the phone not at the network level. I understand needing to keep it to a minimum for network but like shrinking a picture down to 19k is just stupid. I would be fine with 200-300K with a decent resolution. I was gonna look for an app to see if there was something where you could set automatic picture compression for mms messages. I want something I can adjust, that does it automatically when sending an mms and of course does not override the original file. It would be nice if it even made a temp directory so your not getting duplicate low quality photos in your album. Sending full uncompressed mms although can be nice a lot of times is not necessary. If anyone knows of such an app please post it, free or paid I would be more than happy to buy it. The default compression levels are awful.

Yes, but at the request of the network. I just did a test in which I took a picture and Dropbox'd it to my girlfriend who's on Verizon and asked her to mms it back to me. I then looked at the size of the mms file and it was 57k and looked great. Meanwhile, I mms'd that same picture to her and it was compressed to 22k! That made a huge difference! Hers was sharp and filled my entire screen, mine was blurry and shrunk in size. We need to start a petition asking Sprint to ease up on compression.
I did the same test with all my devices I tried forwarding everything I could to test if it's just the phone mms apk or the network so I drop box dl it to my s3 on sprint it was fine than sent to the one fine looked great sent from one back to s3 horrible I've contacted sprint and HTC on this issue .

MMS compression is NOT new to Sprint nor HTC devices. It's coded into their mms application and stock ROMs. Yes it can be changed, both compression and overall filesize (I've been doing it for years now on my ROMs, including the HTC ONE). No, I will not be telling you how to do it.

This. As said above, its coded into the Mms.apk, the network only transmits the MMS. If it were at the network level, any sort of uncompressed MMS mod (which we have for several devices) would not exist

Yes I understand this so what's the overall fix for users not here on xda I'm just wondering because I think it's crazy how this could be this bad . Understanding that they both use compression but it did not degrade images this bad I've used HTC devices since the og evo had the evo lte and have the DNA in no way do any send pics this bad . Is it the ultra pixels that play a part in this ? Both of you who answered we all know what they do but why is it worse in thus device ?

I dont know. It MAY have to do with the ultrapixels thing, but dont quote me. It might just be that HTC decided to have the Mms.apk app compress more than usual because maybe taking shots with ultrapixels yields bigger file sizes on average? I cant say for certain.
And yes, i agree that its worse, even on my shift i can still send pretty good quality photos

Its not a sprint thing, its the stock messaging app. Just send photos using a third part sms app. I use Chompsms and send photos through mms at 1.3 mbs.
The stock mms app thinks everything is a slideshow so it will buck down the picture to 32kb or less. Use chomp trust me. Look at this mms I sent through chomp. went out at 1.02 mb.

Go to the main AFH download page, click the link, wait the 5-10 seconds, and it will generate other mirrors on the right side of the page for you to download from. There is also an alternate download link that's hosted on goo.im
I want to give thanks to -viperboy- first and foremost for always putting out a quality ROM in a timely fashion. I've been using your ROM's since I had my Evo 4g Lte and loved your work so naturally I came back :good:. I just had a quick question regarding kernels, the stock one from what I've noticed battery wise its actually pretty good but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any other kernels that are noticeably better battery wise?

Glad you like it. However, Screen filter just tints the screen, it won't save you battery. I use it in the movies. More power management is coming, I have something up my sleeve

I come from the line of thinking that if my screen is darker then it's probably not using as much power, granted that difference may be minimal.
Is there anyway we can modify the layout of the pull-down device settings like the wifi tether icon doesn't seem to work on the Sprint version unless you have a specific data plan so I'd like to either remove it or swap it out with the application that I run for tether
The One (viperRom 1.0.3)

Wait... You use it at movies? Are you saying you are one of those people who can't put their phone down for 2 measly hours to watch a damn movie? That you whip your phone out in the theater because 'eff the others around you who paid money to see the movie and not what you are doing on Facebook??
You're seriously one of those guys?? I YELL AT YOU PEOPLE!!

Well, your line of thinking is incorrect. Imagine your phone is on full brightness and you put a piece of tint on the front of the screen. It will appear to be darker right? But in reality, it's just not projecting the light because you have a filter over it. Screen filter is exactly the same thing. There is no battery savings to be had with it.
Toggles will be edited for next release to fix/remove those that don't work or are useless. A

Lol, no I try not to but I do it during the previews and try to keep the brightness down for those that care about the previews lol But I have it on such a dark setting with screen filter you'd never notice it. It's usually responding to xda stuff! Lol
