Well, I got an over the air update message last night to upgrade my phone to the latest version of Gingerbread 2.3.6.
I allowed it to install and now I only connect G (edge) on AT&T to where before the update I was connecting at 3G / H+.
I spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T and I would rather have given myself a root canal as it would have been less painful!
Any how, anyone else having this problem? Is there an easy way to rollback to the previous version?
Happy New Year!

My speeds seem to have taken a hit also
---------- Post added at 12:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:01 AM ----------
Scratch that.....4-5000kbps now
Same issue here--my 3g is gone and on edge only now. it came back for a second once but has mostly been gone since update. Can't get any data anymore!!
Use Odin. Try flashing the KK5 modem. See if that helps.
Never mind... I reflashed and am seeing 4000kbps+ speeds now
Any help for someone who is using stock without root? Thanks
I have an India market Note, updated to KL7 through Odin and everything works perfect. Using with ATT and everything is perfect so far. Did it mess with your APN settings?
You might need to do a wipe. When I updated to just KL3 I still noticed it was laggy, etc despite what a lot of people said. When I finally wiped it took care of a lot of issues.
No need to wipe
settings>wireless and networl>mobile network> uncheck use packet data
press return and check airplane mode, uncheck it and check on back the use packet data
i will give it a try, thanks.

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S from Sasktel sometime in mid-october. This is the first android phone I've ever had, and after a few days i decided to try to root it. The rooting process went fine and I had absolutely no problems with my phone. However, i eventually decided to try a custom ROM. I went with Darky's Raw Steel Edition from this forum but after i successfully installed it (v2.2) I could no longer connect to the data network. I could still make calls and receive texts, but any sort of internet connection wouldn't work. When version 3.0 of the rom came out I installed it but had the same problem. I thought my best option at this point would be to just restore to the stock 2.1 firmware. I wasnt exactly sure what my phone had been on when i bought it, but i decided that I9000XWJM9 from samfirmware would be my best bet. I flashed with odin, and now I have no network connection at all! Does anyone know what my problem could be? Thanks so much to anyone who can point me in the right direction!
Find your apn settings from your provider or google it and it is is this forum aswell where theres list of them just enter your apn settings for your provider manually.
Go to www.tweaker.com and get the settings for ur network

Thanks for the help! However, I'm having some trouble finding the APN settings for sasktel, if anyone could post a link or something that would be great. And gadgetcheck, I think you gave me the wrong link, it takes me to like a media site with nothing about APN settings as far as I can see.

the SaskTel i9000m stock firmware is JH2. If you're going to use a custom rom, use Doc's. That's what I'm currently using, no issues whatsoever (also on SaskTel in Saskatoon ) If you need the apn settings, let me know, and I'll just copy them out for you, but I'm pretty sure Doc's rom already has them, as I never had to add them. Though maybe they just carried over from my JH2 install?
Hello friends
My Samsung Galaxy i9000b is no longer with the network service.
The problem started after I installed the ROM ICS 4.0.3 (teamhacksung and ONECOSMIC)
I tested these 2 rom, I realized that was not a good signal, I tried a few times and exchanging modem, but does not result.
So I decided to go back to stock rom 2.3.3 for i9000b.
My surprise now with stock rom has signal, but it is not possible to make phone calls or send SMS. The network 3g internet does not work anymore.
Since then I have tried to install the stock rom 2.2.2, with re-partition dbdata etc. With all wipe, format / system etc etc. And yet not solved.
To recap, the unit with stock rom 2.3.3 shows signal but can not connect to the network.
"In service
Selected network (live) unavailable "
I've tried to use another chip of my country and operator error is the same.
The imei is active in phone status.
Any solution or is it the modem of the device is dead?
sorry my english by google translate
thanks!
Sounds like settings issue. Check apn. Another user recently had a similar problem, turned out his carrier had disabled his data as some app had munched his allowance.
I had to bring in technical assistance to resolve. It really was a problem with the hardware. Internal memory specifically.
I have the exact same problems, with the exact same simtoms. I dont wont to take it to tecnical suport, isnt there an other solution.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Its done. I flash it again without the sim card all the way back from Eclair 2.1. After that the problem was gone. Now testing MIUI.
I´m sorry, the problem is back again, i have tryed everithing i can think about.
have u found the way to solve those problem?...seems happen to me also...every stock rom, every ics, cm9 i tried...got network for moment, then suddenly no service.no data...restart/pull out the battery, its ok again(but for temporary only)...clueless now
This could be issue with your modem. Please flash another modem using odin and check it. pick the right modem for your region/network.
Thanks,
Ajay
Sorry on the noob question but, I just bought a HTC vivid from a guy and he said the phone was rooted. How can I unroot it or how can I fix it so my att sim card works. The guy said it was unlocked and on t mobile so maybe the setting are messed up. It's on Android version 2.3.4 and htc sense version 3.0.
Same here
in the same boat except I am the one that unlocked the SIM. I used it with T-Mobile and am now trying to sell it. I met a customer at an AT&T store & tried multiple SIM's, but none of them worked. We reset factory reset acouple of times, but that didn't change anything. The weird thing is that when you put an AT&T SIM in the Mobile Network settings are grayed out. Take the card out and the settings are able to be selected.
Sorry to piggyback off this, but Idid want to add that I don't think it has much to do with the current version of Android you're running.
Under mobile data settings, APNs, push menu, restore defaults.

Resetting to default APN settings doesn't change anything in my case. After a factory reset there are no APN settings anyway. The issue I have is when an AT&T SIM card is installed, everything under Mobile Settings is grayed out. You can't select a network to register with and you can't add AT&T's APN or even reset for that matter.
Should I look into doing a hard reboot? Or does anyone know the codes to dial to get access to the radio (ex. ##12345##)? I read through the first couple of posts in the threads linked, but they don't really address the SIM issue. Sure, I saw the notes on APN's, but I don't think this is what is the base of my issue.
Thanks a lot for the links. I actually got it working last night, I changed the apn setting to say phone and it started to work. But I still want to return it to stock to install ICS. On the second link I use step six right to unroot it? And which ruu do I need, because I see like three for Cingular. Thanks.

In the SUPERGUIDE start at the very top, first paragraph. You need the RUU that came on your device If yours came with Gingerbread I would guess this one,but it is only a guess. .Download RUU_Holiday_Cingular_US_1.63.502.4_Radio_1.11.1020.03_30.77.551061.02L_release_221238_signed.exe from FileFactory.com
Thanks. But how do I know what software my came with.
Edit: yup it should be that one.
Is their any other link for the RUU download, it keeps failing for me.

Not sure on that but if it where stock it may ask you to upgrade to ics but I don't know.for sure .
Because I want to return it to stock to then install ics.
No matter what you do to it as gb if you run the stock ics ruu its still gonna be stock ics any thing you done as gb will not apply any more , only thing that don't change is s off
Thanks for the help. I finally was able to do it.
Yesterday I got an S4 Active and as it featured Android version 4.2.2. I proceeded to update it OTA to 4.4.2. I did this with no SIM card inserted.
I then rooted the device and put my SIM card in it. But all I got was a "forbidden" icon on the notification bar. Before you even ask, I tried everything:
. Locked the device to 3G + 2G
. Locked the device to 3G only
. Locked the device to 2G only
I figured something must have killed the radio on this device during the update, but these were purely stock updates conducted via Samsung's own OTA system.
Today, at work, where network reception is VERY, VERY strong, I got 3/4 bars in 4G, 1/4 bar in 3G and 1/4 bar in 2G. Therefore, the radio on this device isn't killed, but network reception is very poor... Yes, I get full bars in any radio with any other phone with the same SIM card.
Unfortunately I haven't tested network reception with Android 4.2.2, just to make sure there was nothing wrong with the update.
Apart from sending the phone to repair... and before I start flashing unofficial CM builds and custom ROMS just for the sake of trying something... Where can I download the stock 4.2.2 files to use with Odin? Searched everywhere in the S4 Active forums and couldn't find it (or any other stock firmware for that matter, seems like only ATT&T versions were posted).
Thanks.

Hi there,
Try to wipe everything and to flash the stock Rom again. Me, too I had huge problems after I flashed the new stock the first time. Check in device info for you baseband. If the baseband version is not the one of the new 4.4.2 (NE5), then you definitely have to flash again.
I hope this helps. Best of luck and Godspeed.

Hi... Ive just registered to ask if you found a solution to this problem. I just bought a second hand s4 active and im having the same problem... I was going to roll back to stock 4.2.2 from updated stock 4.4.2 untill i read that it might brick the phone... I flashed cm11 last night but unfortunately still cant get any better then H+.... After many hours of research im getting desperate for some help... Otherwise the phone is in great condition and it would be very disapointing to have wasted my hard earned cash on a phone thats not even capable of downloading apps.....

First time poster, long time lurker, absolute phone novice.
I am using a i9305 (Hong Kong model, bought from Kogan Australia). I am based in Malaysia. Before all this I just popped my sim card in and utilised the stock ROMs. No issues with 4G or network whatsoever, but the phone got really slow after 4.3 to I decided to install CM11 using Heimdall.
Long story short, I absolutely screwed it up, and the phone showed the "software fail" screen. After scouring XDA and undertaking a number of fixes which didn't work (I'm scared this is what screwed my phone), I finally worked out to flash the Hong Kong stock 4.3 ROM using Odin, which brought my phone back to me. However, now I can only pick up Edge and barely get network reception. It is definitely not a sim issue as my sim in my wife's identical i9305 picks up 4G and network within a second of switching on.
I've searched every thread but cannot find an answer which works.I've flashed a whole bunch of modems but to no avail. I hope I haven't screwed my phone. Threads I've utilised include:

Have you tried wiping your cache in stock recovery (or whatever recovery you have, I can't really tell from your post)? I think you had problems with CM11 since you likely dirty flashed (no wipe of cache, data and system) and used Heimdall instead of flashing it through a custom recovery.
Possible answer

When you wipe the whole system to change to another rom, there is always a good chance that you can lose the modem during the process. Rom's may come with their on custom modem , but may not be fully compatible. try to download and flash with odin the modem of the stock rom once again. Your problem is related with the modem
Sorry for not responding, I was in Korea for work and left the bad phone back at home for the past 3 weeks.
I tried the clearing cache, but no good.
I will try flash the stock modem now (see below I notice the difference).
I noticed while syncing my google account that the IMEI on my phone had changed. Would this have anything to do with the issues I am facing? The below is my "before and after".

Stock modem didn't work.
Factory reset, odin flashed the stock software again (with the stock modem). Same issue.
Followed instructions on this page for missing IMEI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Tried *#06# but still no IMEI.
Any solutions?
Tried everything I read in lyquidperfection's awesome mega-thread, but nothing works. still got a /01 when I type *#06# and in the 'about' section it now shows IMEI: Unknown.
Everything else works fine, just the internet is stuck on Edge.
so I tried a few more things today but to no avail.
The IMEI shows up as "Unknown" in the phone settings and when I do *#06* I get a /01 message.
However, when I check my IMEI against my Google account, I get the above number.
Any suggestions as how to fix?
as of today, new modem is being release. I9305XXUFNI3
info here
for modem u can read this
download links from page, or this link
im quite new, but i hope this helps.
Thanks. Didn't work, still Edge.
Going to try flash again.
You could try running a different country's stock ROM, or maybe seeing whether you get 4G while using a custom ROM (Liquidsmooth maybe).

1. Restore a working QCN backup (like this one) http://www.mediafire.com/download/4j...4_19-53-39.rar through the download tool of the QPST suite
2. Change the IMEI to match yours. <<<<. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP. There are many way to do this, i used RF NV manager. I can't be more specific since this topic is off-limits on XDA.
3. Perform a factory reset.
I can't test LTE connection, because where I live there is no coverage, but I'll try as soon as I can.

Step #1, use QPST Suite from this thread to install the QCN backup as per above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Step #2, uninstall QPST, follow this thread (post #4): http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/
>> I didn't have the US version LTE phone, but it works on my LTE International
Step #3, go into recovery and wipe cache and factory reset.
